Today we’re finishing an IKEA hack where we're adding butcher block countertops between the uppers and lowers of the IKEA Havsta shelving units. I am a wife to Scotty and a mom of 3 kids, we love living in the Pacific Northwest and while we’re indoors most of the fall, winter and spring due to the wet weather I’ve been working on decluttering our home and building up my homemaking routines. Y’all are great problem-solvers, but for those not able/willing cut cut into drywall: secure a 1x3 across the wall but use shims to get it level. Then secure cabinet backs to that. Easier to get to studs, too.
Great idea! If we ever move, this will probably stay with the house as a somewhat permanent feature so we didn’t have a problem cutting into the wall. But it was significant damage to the wall if we were to want to take it down at some point - the 1x3 and shims is a great option! Thank you for commenting!

This looks so nice. I'm considering doing something similar for my homeschool space. Do you find the shelves to be sturdy?
Thank you! Yes, very sturdy. My one complaint is the shelves are not adjustable and are only about 10 3/4” tall spaces between shelves so our bigger homeschool and reference books have to lay on their sides. But if that’s my only complaint then I can live with it!
