I told them in the interview that I had multiple offers on the table at the moment but would hold my response to them to get through this interview as I was interested in the position. However a decision had to be made within 2 days or I would be forced to accept one of the other offers.
We did the interview, I did not hear back from them in 2 days and accepted one of the other offers. They then called me on the 4th day wanting to set up a 3rd interview.
I had to explain to them that I was no longer looking. lol

  • @Azurryu

I instinctively gave the first option as response. Currently I have a great job and only applied because the qualification criteria fit me perfectly, the company has a good reputation and my friend working there recommend me to them and the other way around. I don't need to switch and I'm not desperate to take a job elsewhere. Got invited to a second interview, so despite my salary exception being high for their standards (again, I'm already paid more than their standards where I am now), they still consider it being a worthy investment. Looking forward to their offer - either it's utterly bs or they actually take me serious. What counts is that I went from extreme social anxiety to being good at self presentation and convincing employers I'm worth more than my age makes them assume.

My limited experience tells me to be honest and professional. My answer was "Yes, I am currently on the last step of the hiring process at another company." I got hired at the company that asked this question basically on the second day. I always think that if a company is willing to spend time to interview me, it means that they see something in my CV or letter that fits their current needs. Job interview is not just about us needing the job, it's also the company needing an employee to fill in a position. If you are new to the field yes this is probably the best you can do. However if you have experience and a strong resume don't bully yourself into accepting less. Show what you are worth. Tell them the truth that you are looking at other companies. Let them know what they offered you. Tell them what you are really looking for. You will never be happy if you don't. If you don't like their answers you may be applying to a company that ain't a good fot for you. You need to find out what type of leadership you work best under. Some people work good under dictators others are very creative and csn find better ways of doing things. Remember it takes a team of people who think differently to come up with the best stuff.

I've had several job offers that were received long after accepting a job offer somewhere else.

You may also just be able to ask why they're asking. Because this might just be another version of the "why do you want to leave your current job" or the "why do you want to work for us" question. I think it would be reasonable to say "Could I ask why you're asking that question? Since almost every candidate is going to have the same answer, I want to be sure I'm giving you an answer that's relevant to why you're asking." If they just wanna know how likely you'd be to accept an offer, convey your enthusiasm! But if you don't feel like you know yet, you have an opening to get more information - "Based on what I've seen so far, this job seems very promising and like it could be a good fit, but I do still have some questions. Some of them you can probably answer, but if we move forward with this process I'd love an opportunity to speak with someone on the team to really get a full picture"

Job interviews seem to be about finding an employee who’s great at lying and being manipulative

I'm way to honest then and never thought that this was a hard question to answer. I always said I've applied with others or if I had just had an interview. I ended up getting a job who appreciated my honesty ❤

When i was applying for my current job they offered me an in person interview a week after my phone interview. They then rang one of my references who told them i was awesome and that i had at least 2 other interviews lined up that week. Guess whose interview got rescheduled to the next day? Went well and I'm still here a few years later. My previous employers are fantastic and have vouched for me for some good promotions and also warned me off some dodgy sounding employers.

We need to stop letting employers think that their particular job opportunity is anything more than an employment opportunity. The vast majority of employees are there for the compensation.

Idk why but after seeing ur answer this quote came to my mind:-
"An interview is a discussion between 2 dishonest people."

I've never been asked this question in an interview. However I did once have a very awkward phone conversation with a recruiter who called me a couple of weeks after my application, and then without much introduction started launching into pre-screening questions like "why do you want this role?". I was out of the house (in a noisy mall actually), so couldn't just pull up my notes on that job, which was one of many I had applied for. I literally could not remember what the company was or anything specific about them. I fumbled my way through the phone call but learned to be more prepared next time or just request to reschedule the call for a better time.

Hi Erin! Wondering if you have any recommendations on how to handle being asked your salary expectations for a role when you live in a state that requires the pay range be posted in the job description and/or disclosed during an interview?
I live in a pay transparency state and recently interviewed for a job where salary was (illegally) not provided in the description, and when I asked during the interview, they asked me what I expected to be paid instead of answering my question. I was so surprised that I just gave them a random number. They ended up making me an offer at the higher end of my range, but I couldn’t help feeling like I’d left money on the table and ended up turning down the role.

I remember when I was applying for university, I gave all my original documents to one uni. And then took the copies to the other. The other uni didn't take my copies and said that I didn't actually want to study there, since I didn't bring them my original documents. I did end up going to the first uni I applied to, they wrote me as an accepted student in the first wave of choosing. They also told me that since I brought them the original docs, they assumed I was 100% set on studying with them

I dont understand the problem. As an interviewer we just wanted to know how fast we needed to move if we liked someone. It was never a negative
As a candidate I just answered honestly and I never sensed it was an issue either way
