Agreed according to George Lucas if you weren't Yoda, Mace, and Anakin you didn't stand a chance against him as a swordsman or the force. This is in terms of the Jedi. Dooku could potentially as a swordsman in the Sith side.

One thing that always surprised me about Sidious; he found ways to fabricate multiple priceless, Indestructible lightsabers. I know some elements of the lore might not be canon, anymore, but I seem to recall that, at least at one point, Palpatine had a lightsaber housed in phrik; basically Indestructible, and this was practically dip-coated in electrum; a very precious metal. That one lightsaber seems a bit silly, considering how he never really planned to let most people see it, but then it turned out he had three? And possibly more? At least one survived to the Vader days, as he gave it to an unsatisfied Darth Vader to use, while working to replace his own, but I guess it's good to know he found uses for his family money, and that Plagueis left him, if you will, to fabricate such marvels.
I don't know what it is in canon, but IRL electrum is an alloy of ~75% gold and ~25% silver, also called "green gold" for its tint. Depending on the mixture, it's kinda hard to tell unless you hold it next to some pure yellow gold. It can also be found in nature occasionally, as the metals can be found together, albeit with random percentages of each.

Sidious was playing possum to mace windu so anakin could prove his worth to sidious. He foresaw this before mace and the 3 stooges showed up.

Completely agree; he needed Anakin to do what he did so that he could complete his fall to the darkside. The novel sweepinglyplays to this. Sidious could feel the turmoil in Anakin while he was still in the Jedi temple - he let Mace get the "upperhand" as Anakin entered the area so that he could defend Sidious and the knowledge to save Padme. It was the final part of Sidious's machinations with Anakin to make him fall; although he didn't orchestrate the situation, he turned it to his interest like he did everything else he did.

@@Drew151Proof No doubt. Book and even in the movie his lightning was pushing Mace's saber back on him and Sidious could have blasted that indefinitely. He only stopped as he needed Anakin to make the intervention so as to bring him to his side. Palpatine at that point was peak Sidious. Unlimited power indeed.
George Lucas himself said Mace beat Sidius, so why does it matter what others "think"....
Because everyone is entitled to have an opinion. Besides, George also recently showed support for Disney and Kennedy, so we'll take his with a grain of salt..

They were never there to destroy the people, the only one killed was the last remaining warrior, the strongest. The people of Kurseed viewed this ritual as a right of passage, and the Sith viewed them as fellow servants of the dark side as they were, with one advancing the other through this ritual. Plagueis even remarks that perhaps one day when both had advanced beyond the need for the ritual, they would come to honor them, rather than engage them in battle.

Despite how skilled Sidious was for his era both in saber combat and force feats, in Legends, he’s completely outclassed by both Ancient Jedi & Ancient Sith.
Tulak Hord, Exar Kun, Valkorian, Darth Bane, Hand Maiden, Grandmaster Luke with some of his descendants, even Count Dooku, etc.

Plagueis trained him well. In his opinion, amongst the Jedi of the time prior to TPM, only Yoda and Dooku could defeat he or Sidious. By the Clone Wars the number included Mace Windu. Dueling is more than swordsmanship though, but Dooku is probably the best pure swordsman of the lot. Sidious and Yoda are however more powerful. While it is true Sidious probably wins a straight up duel between him and Dooku, on a good day Dooku can beat him.

Sidious clowned Maul & Savage, whereas Dooku was struggling with Savage & Ventress
this is a review and he did not mention falling rain or that the first ten years of Sidious 's training he was not allowed to even touch a lightsaber , he was only allowed to strengthen his force connection and learn new Dark Side Powers!

I think Darth Sidious and even Darth Plagueis were fools for dismissing lightsaber and believed that the Sith had grown pass the weapon. Though I will not reject the results of training and in someways to show there is as some tabbit of long realist in their arrogant minds even if deeply drown out.
Banite Sith, has always bee4n an order which is dedicated to survival of the fittest and ever successive generation becoming more powerful and talented than the last as they advance the grand plan. Sidious is put through several lethal crucibles in order to become such a deadly lightsaber duellist that aided and enhanced by the power of the dark side its no wonder he was able to cut down three jedi masters like they were chaff in revenge of the sith.
Though being an avatar of and having his strikes and form powered by the dark side, didn't help him against mace windu and is why he was utterly defeated by the master of vaapad. A form that takes the power of the dark side and turns it back upon the wielder in powering and enhancing the strikes of the jedi vaapad user.

And here lies our answer. Sidious is a master of the blade simply because of the quality of his opponents with plagueis being a master of all forms of lightsaber combat, and droids that were the absolute best in the galaxy, droids that were not created by his or his masters hand. "For you are a sith lord and have been marked for death" these are the words of someone who is on edge never letting their guard down. Time and time again do the jedi actually fall into this pothole, for this look no further than Master Luminara vs Ventress in the clone wars. Ventress was able to escape because of Luminara becoming overconfident and letting her guard down allowing for here to be temporarily blind in one eye. The sith fight until death no one must know they are alive vs the jedi who fight until a surrender. There are only 2 sith on the galaxy and should one fall the grand plan would be put in danger.
How are they trained in all 7 if Windu invented one of the styles? So are there 8?

He didn’t embarrass the 3 Jedi when they went to arrest him/ or kill him, the actor for Sidious was to old and they didn’t want to use a double. It was just laziness unfortunately, but if they had used a younger man then it would’ve been a lot closer then it looked.

If its only lightsaber combat, yeah maybe, Dooku is the more skilled dualist, however Sidious speed would be a serious problem for the aging count; then again its not like Dooku is unfamiliar with battling foes with a speed advantage given he held his own against Yoda on two occasions. Still, it'd be a damn tough fight for Dooku. He's certainly got a shot of beating Palps. That said, if Sidious bring his superior force power to bear, he'd win eventually.

Sounds like a Sith in denial to me.. coming from one ALSO in a blade art. It takes quite A LOT of man hrs practicing just with a particular weapon to take on the 2 such worst scenarios possible to have to do.. take on someone that could be WAY better in a dual and/or fight multiple armed opponents ALONE an to do them BOTH in the space of a few hrs.. an even one minutes apart??? Seems some Sith goin on there..
People in here are crazy if they think Mace beat Sideous - clearly it was all part of the plan to turn Anakin. Just think about it for a second, anakin was the chosen one - if he was the chosen one, then how could Mace have killed Sideous? Clearly palpatine knew Anakin was coming to see him, he knew this was the moment to push Anakin fully to the dark side.
It's fully possible that Mace could have won in a fair fight, but in that fight, Palpatine threw it so he could turn anakin.
