    I bought the Ego Power+ without batteries from Lowe’s for $483 as I had bought the Ego 42” Zero turn riding lawnmower and it comes with (4) 10 Ah batteries. The super charger that comes with the mower can charge all four (plus two more slots for additional batteries) in about 1 -1/2 hours so they’re always ready. So when needed I can plug them into the Power Station and have 2440 Wh of available power for $483

      I did the same, and with my 3k watt off grid solar array I can plug the super charger in to that to charge the 4 10AH batts back up, so for us it is a viable emergency solution, but for others, not so much lol

      @@shaybee22 I did the same. I can run my gas furnace 24hrs with this unit. I can do three loads of wash on one charge(we have a gas dryer) I have other Ego products and use the 10ah batteries in those and picked-up four 12ah batteries for the riding mower. I can change the batteries with the quick charger and my 4kw off grid solar array. I have 7kwh of battery storage for the solar system. In addition I have a Chevy Volt that has a16kwh battery and 1500w 120v ac inverter. We had an eight day grid down from a storm and never missed a beat. Because we use the off grid system every day I didn't know that there was a power outage until I shut off the TV and lights to go to bed and noticed how dark it was outside.

    I agree with many of the comments that say these are completely different and really can't be compared to one another. It is also wrong that you can't run appliances like a fridge for long with the Ego. It is true that this is most useful for people that are already invested in Ego products otherwise they would be better off with another inverter. Too many inaccuracies in the video.

    I have the Nexus Power Station with 4 12.5 amp/hr batteries + 6 12.5 batteries with my 52" ZRT. I'm not sure what anyone means when they say its useless in a power outage as I have 2k total watts available which will allow me to run many appliances in my house for several hours during an outage. This guys time estimates are not completely accurate as most modern appliances such as TVs and refrigerators require much less power to run. Yes, the lack of pass-through and USB-C are drawbacks, but they are not deal breakers by any means. This thing can hold its own with just about anything out there. Finally, its not a generator, its a power bank, so it is naturally limited in runtime. Even more expensive products are limited in this respect. Pass-through is useless in an outage unless you have an external generator, although pass through would permit you to plug the unit in during a power outage and allow devices to run off of grid power once power was restored. For its intended purpose(s), the Nexus is more than sufficient.

    Perspective. There are some relevant points. IMO the pass thru is the biggest downside for the Nexus. I have 3 Bluetti’s AC200P, 1 Ecoflow Delta and a Nexus 2000w power station with 4x7.5ah batteries. I bought these units at a high discount via pallet sale. I would never pay retail for these. The Bluetti set up in this video is not a cost effective setup either for solar. One can get an EG4 3000w power unit with a 5kw lifepo4 battery for way less than this Bluetti setup in this video. And it will be able to charge @ 5000w of solar. People should understand the tools they are buying and weigh all the pros and cons. I use all my systems constantly. I like my Nexus power station even with all it’s limitations. Why? I have a bunch of EGO power tools. I use my nexus power station in my temporary kitchen. Besides using the 7.5ah batteries on my garden power tools, they also power my electric recumbent trike and performs better than a 48v ebike battery. One can’t be mad at this Nexus Power Station for it’s limitations. It can’t compare to the Bluetti for solar applications. But the Bluetti’s battery can’t detached to power my garden tools either.

    I would never invest in a "dedicated" backup battery generator these days. No way its a waste of space and money. The EGO is perfect if you are using EGO tools and have batteries already. Any battery solution is NOT going to work well long term, if you plan on using it for 24 hours ect then a Gas is still the way to go.

    I own ego tools and the nexus generator. I am very happy with my choice. It works well in emergency situations and is reasonably powerful. The advantage is that I can use the batteries for the lawn equipment and in the event of a power failure. The bluetti is a dedicated piece of equipment for backup situations. I charge my ego batteries separately via a solar charger then just hot swap them. I don’t feel that you are comparing apples with apples really. Also, people who buy ego equipment can probably afford to buy a bluetti as well. 😊

    The investment for the Bluetti is large $$, the company is in China, reviewers on Amazon are already stacking up months later some with models as yours that no longer work, and are getting no response from the company. Bluetti is a hit or miss, meaning you either get one out of the box that is great and stays great, or you are cheated of your $2000 up you spent to get it all together. And while it looks good on paper, in all honesty EGO is smarter as if the batteries go bad, they are swappable, you will not be stuck with an over-heavy brick that doesn't operate, and most people have the EGO because they invested in other tools with the battery, and now EGO has out this pad5000 inverter that does allow pass-through - and if they keep listening to their customers may eventually come out with a nexus with same capability that would mean small investment for current battery owners to upgrade to.
    If the Chinese generators that look fabulous on amazon lived up to their invented-tisements those would be bargains, but haven't seen one that doesn't end up to be just another China-con job when the heat gets going and the products start malfunctioning.

    This is not an apples-to-apples comparison as the Bluetti, while a very good product (I have ECO Flows), is not designed to be portable, is expandable, and is designed for home power. The power output is similar or less than the EGO. The EGO's depletion cycle is actually good as it is designed to prolong the life of the battery and their total cycle life is significantly less than the Li FePO, but the LiFePO batteries are much heavier. As with any product, consumers should first do their homework, then purchase based on need and intended use. No need in spending $1000s for a device you will use only to 50% of its capabilities.

    These units are proactive in that they will automatically drain once per month to ensure they don't permanently degrade with a full charge. This is an actual feature. Also, I had bought two of these, each with four 7.5A batteries, so I just keep one on rotation at all time to charge with solar and one with a load. When a hurricane comes, I have both completely charged so can go day and night until all is clear, then charge them both up. I do also own Jackerys, Bluetti and Ecoflows for pass through.

That was using 2 7.5 amp and 2 5 amp batteries my info screen said it could have ran that for 22 hrs, not sure if it would have really ran it that long but as i said power was only off for 3-4 hours! Would it be suitable in a long term emergency say days without power absolutely not, but for short term emergencies I don’t think it’s a bad buy especially if you already have batteries!!! Most people will not use that ego generator to charge batteries!!

  • @chaseme9860

    This IS a "survival generator", not a convenience generator. No small battery generator is meant to replace a gas generator. These are for powering communications, LED lighting, and other light applications. The fix for the solar charging passthrough issue and probably even better option is to let the smaller ego power stations do the actual work. Most light applications will not need more than the 150-watt or new 400-watt EGO generators which are more efficient than this power station. You can have 4 batteries solar charging while you are using a better-fitting power application. Slow charging is much easier on battery life too.

All my batteries are 2-6 years old and they all still seem to charge to 92-100%. Good points at the time, and the device clearly needs a refresh with USB-C PD ports, but now EGO has 12 AH batteries. So yeah, Li-Ion and maybe 5 years of service life for residential use - but none of the other units have a replaceable battery. In 10 years, hypothetically, whatever EGO batteries you have (16-20AH??) could slot in to this same thing. Not a perfect solution, but clearly the value prop is different as time goes on. I can get 2600Wh with 4 12 Ah batteries in my new 52" riding mower with the $500 nexus power station. Also, I don't buy the hypothetical on the LiPo life yet, it feels a bit like how they advertise all these LED light bulbs would last 25 years, but they go out faster than incandescent (except my Philips Hue). So many factors - I wish we head a different way than pure batteries - (ICE could have been so much better). My bet is ego will move to LiPo tech as well if it is good - and again, you can easily keep using the same 56V system for years to come.

  • @jondrew55
    @jondrew55 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Lots of good info in this video. Thanks. But when you talk about value propositions, you really need to be able to compare things apples to apples. The Ego power station and the Buetti are completely different animals in so many ways. I have Ego yard tools so it makes sense for me to have their batteries. The Ego power station seemed like a good idea when I bought it 3 years ago. But things in the solar generator market have changed so much in that time. My Ego power station is in rough shape. For a while, one of the stations would not function and just flash red. It was under warranty, but that happened at the beginning of covid and their customer service dept was in a mess and I could never get it fixed. Now it seems to have mysteriously fixed itself and all the stations work. But the display is all hosed up. It still seems to function, but it's almost impossible to read the display. In addition, one of my 7.5 batteries has crapped out for no apparent reason. So I have serious questions about the build quality of Ego products. But like I said, good info here. I also just bought a Jackery 300. I'll use it to keep my portable fridge going on car trips for a few hours, run some 12 V appliances in my camper and stuff like that. It does have charging pass thru but interestingly enough the instructions say it is bad for the batteries to operate in the pass thru mode. They don't really explain why.

    • @raydornbush
      @raydornbush ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is bad to run batteries in pass thru mode because as you're trying to charge them up you're also discharging them at the same time which generates heat within the battery or batteries which can deplete its usable life faster. That's why it's bad to have pass thru
      ... I'm surprised more people don't know about this.

    Totally different applications. The ego and others like it are inverters. Why they even have chargers is interesting. It runs my camper overnight. I have the Ryobi generator and have never plugged it in to charge batteries. That doesn't even make sense. If the batteries die I simply put in more batteries. The idea is to use multiple batteries for extended survival use. How you charge the batteries is up to you but has nothing to do with this inverter. Worrying about not being able to charge batteries while you're using the inverter? If you have AC power what are you using the inverter for? It does not have the downside of an internal battery that is dead when it's dead. Just pop in a few more charged batteries.

    useless in emergency? what are you people talking about? u guys are knocking this thing cuz it doesn't do what you want it to do when it's clearly not intended to be used in that way. li-on batteries will die if stored full. no matter the generator. you talk about niche, i guarantee you having a full solar charging setup is far more niche than anything you've mentioned. in florida, "emergency" is hurricane power outages. your typical user won't use pass-through in these emergency use cases. charge when prepping for storm, use around house for whatever you need, and hope power comes back before dead. this is more targeted to people that have batteries, $500 for 2000W isn't bad. li-on vs li-fe is legit, li-fe batteries are better. now if you have nothing, no batteries or anything, sure, i guess. no reason to not have the option of pass-through even though most won't use it. li-fe is prob worth it on it's own. for me, i'm getting ego mower with 4 10mah batts, so adding the station is perfect. plus my use case is as described above, typical storm prep stuff. not like off grid living or anything.

    I get it that ppl want to use the ego batteries for multiple applications but I like how you’ve presented the fact that this lasts longer for merge by applications and I will be looking into this because I’ve never heard of it. And if you can solar charge it nearly as fast or as fast as your u delete it then that is a huge selling point. I don’t know if this will take the place of my tri fuel enerator but in the case of there is no gas or propane to be found than this would be huge, ego has some cool things but I’m not sure if they are there yet on the generator. If it could charge and be used at the same time then I might consider it and I was about to buy one. I do however like the new 400 watt power inverter. I think this is a quick grab in an emergency if you need to power an oxygen concentrator or want to keep your freezer going. I used it on my shed today because due to an injury I’ve yet to hook up the electric and it powered my work bench lights and fan and over head lights and power stop on a 10 ah battery for two hours and didn’t drop a bar on the battery. Ego has the batteries priced way too high, they should drop the price and ppl would buy more because if you compare it to a Tesla battery they are like a 1000% mark up is what I’ve heard. I like the ego platform but will be looking into this generator, j hate dragging out my fuel generator and gassing up and then having to drain the gas to put away, it’s just a hassle and it’s loud, puts off carbon monoxide and this looks like a breeze, nice review. America wants things for nothing I wouldn’t mind having something like what you got, but the problem is, I’m a day short as well as the information on. It got to me a little too late anyway thanks for the info.

    Nothing new after watch other videos. Of course, the EGO power station is for those that have EGO batteries, like the Ryobi power station is for those that have Ryobi batteries. Of course I can hot swap the batteries and charge them upp on my fast charger. For example, if I got power outage at site A, I can plug it in and I charge the batteries att site B, and return for a hot-swap. Though, the missing option for pass-trough could be a deal-breaker for the EGO and the Ryobi. If pass-through is important, use something like your solution.

    Ok I see. You need the Ego to do more. I still think it’s cool to be able to repurpose those batteries to be able be useful in an emergency than just lay around in my garage.
    Oh do you have a fast charger? If so does it work well for you?

    This larger machine is great except I can’t run my lawn mower with it or chainsaw or zero turn riding mower or blower or weed eater or pole saw or my snow blower. I guess it would be good in power in the house goes out. Other than that I would have no use for it.

    I'm going to stick with the EGO.
    Why didn't you share the COST of the BUETTI with all the accessories you had to purchase?
    You must also look at the tools that the EGO batteries can attach to, can the BLUETTI do that?
    I get your point but, it's like comparing apples to oranges

ENGLISH IS THEIR SECOND LANGUAGE, AND NO ONE UNDERSTANDS WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO EXPLAIN WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, THEN THEY WANT VIDEOS AND THEN THEY PASS THE PROBLEM FROM CUSTOMER SERVICE TO THE "THE TEAM" AND FINALY A SUPERVISOR. It's really not that big of a deal because you can hot swap the batteries so if you're someone who already owns ego products in multiple batteries you can just constantly charge them with an external charger and easily cycle them through. You can even do this by connecting your charger to your solar array or generator, of course. Pass through would be nice but it's really not that big of a deal for this particular product.

    The Nexus powerstation is not a generator it's an inverter, the batteries are charged through a solar panel extension or a ac outlet, a generator would have some sort of a alternator to create its own power

  • @chrism8013
    @chrism8013 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's NOT a generator. It's a large battery back/inverter. While nice for power outages to keep the fridge running, it will NOT generate power. As for the "auto deplete", that BS. My batteries last in the garage from Fall until to Spring (Oct to April), while not losing a charge. More BS on your part. Do you work for or are paid by Bluetti??
