*A quiet **Generater.Systems** , love the dual fuel capabilities, camper is 50 amp but the adapter helps and found it still handles the load. Haven't taken a camping trip yet, that's in a couple of weeks. Will see how well it does over a long weekend.*

Great video! Very comprehensive and answered all the questions anyone should have. I've had a Canadian Tire Power Box since 2021 which is lead acid and plugged 24/7 all these years and it still works like a top. Use it for lights during power outages and we all know lights are the most important during an outage but it also boosts a dead battery up to 650 cranking amps up to 30 boosts on a single charge and I've done it. Lithium ion and new tech make this even better and lighter. Every home should have one or more .... Cheers from Nova Scotia

I really wanted to buy one of these, but there just isn't the value preposition unless you are neck deep in spare 40v Ryobi batteries. The EcoFlow DELTA with 1260Wh regularly goes on sale for $800. This Ryobi power station costs $700 for the tool only version or $900 with two 6Ah batteries included at my local Home Depot, and then I'd have to find (or buy) the remaining 6AH batteries just to get to the 864Wh you calculated. I think I'll stick with the one that costs less, has greater capacity, and has more features.

Did he think this would power his house? I see it as light duty only, for people who already use Ryobi batteries, and have plenty handy.
Looks to be a great product, until.... I have no idea what similar products would cost, however I was NOT expecting that price tag! And for that price, why the external power supply? It should be a standard AC power input with the inverter built in! Just a thought!

1. When you connect them together and run them in parallel, does that bring up the continuous output to 3000Watts?

1. Yes, this doubles the output to 3,200 Watts continuous (1,600 x 2).
2. We could do that, but it would require a second power station and the additional 7x 12Ah batteries. Really, all you need to do is make the calculations based on the Wh out, and it will tell you everything you need to know.

Looks awesome, a shame Ryobi doesn't sell it as a kit with the bigger 7.5Ah batteries. 4 6Ah would be great, but 4 7.5's would be outstanding., And right now the kit with the 4 6Ah batteries costs less than just 4 6Ah batteries on it's own. Buying the tool only and buying 4 batteries winds up being over twice as much $$$.

¿Which Ryobi power source do you recommend to run two 100w led video lights for a minimum of 6 hours? Considering staying as low budget as possible, ¿would you recommend 2 separate small units? It says here on the AC adapter that it has 150w 16v power, input 100-240v, 50/60Hz, output 16v---9A. I would appreciate some guidance, thank you in advance.

any ac output, modified or pure sine wave can charge phones/laptops or anything with a battery. "Sensitive electronics" are things like tvs, desktop computers, stereo equipment or anything that has lots of electronics bits and dont run off internal battery.

This is a very interesting tool. If you have the batteries already, the math changes, and it could potentially take over the solar power generator market. This iteration of the tool, does not quite provide all the features and options that are needed, but the national distribution and ability to easily replace batteries, make for some interesting potential. I have a large number of Rybobi 18 volt tools and batteries and got the small brother of this unit that runs on one 18 volt battery. In a power out situation, it can handle lots of the little loads. (internet router, LED lights, TV ect) with multiple batteries. Allowing one to utilize existing batteries in another situation has benefits. These solar power generators are generally meant to run the small loads, at full capacity, running a Gas powered generator is going to make more sense for longer times. However, if you are a trades person and you need something simple intermittently at a job site. (like a soldering iron, microwave or air compressor) this can fit the bill. I expect the next version will turn this into a fast charger, and provide solar inputs, so it can fully compete in the off grid market. At full loads, this device only has 30 minutes of power, but most people will run this for tiny loads, CPAP machines, fish tank air pumps, and coffee makers. Potentially, this could power an air compressor, cut down on job site noise, (no noisy generator running), and can handle all the standard corded power tools needed in a remodel. Lots of people still have corded tools that are used intermittently.
Gotta question: I noticed that the power station doesn't have any ports to plug in solar panels. I was wondering if it would be possible to charge the batteries using solar panels plugged directly into a separate inverter? The theory is that you don't need batteries to run the inverter, and as long as I'm only using the inverter to power the battery charger during the day, I should be able to use the power station in the same way I would use a backup generator at night. Crazy? Maybe not. Have you seen the price of a PowerWall or one of those solar generators? This would be a lot cheaper. Plus, with the separate solar panels and inverter, I could power my essentials forever! Or at least until something breaks.
Always love all the info given in your videos. I don't care if you repeat how to do the math for this stuff. Not everyone knows these thing, so it's good that anyone who doesn't know can learn.
Also if anyone knows what battery cells are used in the ryobi P194 (old) 6ah 18v battery, I'd really appreciate the info. I can't seem to find out online.
18650 cells I think, I doubt they’re 21700 cells.
The 18v Ryobi batteries are run on 18650 cells. I have seen Samsung and maybe LG. I have been in numerous 18v battery packs to fix them. The TH-cam channel “Thrifty Tool Shed” repairs Ryobi, Dewalt, and EGO battery packs if you want to see the internals.
18650 cells has been improved during years, see milwaukee usb 3.0 using 18650 with 3000 mah capacity (my terms may be wrong), I am pretty sure the 12ah battery are using those and the old 6ah batter is using 18650 with 1500 mah capacity which is old 18v TTI line is using. if you see new ryobi usb lithium, they are using 18650 2000mah which sort of match old 40v 6ah spec.....I may be wrong I just see how TTI use of the battery, 21700 cell is not necessary, it is more for industrial grade usage
Thanks for the video - it's the things like 1800W for 3min vs 1600W continuous that have caused me to start reading the available electronic manuals before I buy the tools.
A person can find some interesting things that may make them reconsider buying the item from time to time. For example the statement "Operations such as sanding, wire brushing, polishing or cutting-off are not recommended to be performed with this power tool." I read in the Makita LXT die grinder manual --- after buying it. Fortunately that's not what I bought it for though it would have been an unpleasant surprise if I had...
This is more like something you should use if you are RV or van living for a while, and need to run appliances while you also keep your regular drills and minivac charged. Or something to run your fridge when the power goes out.
There are bigger and better batteries for work sites.

However, one thing did confuse me. Why would you want to have the power going into the unit to charge the batteries and output at the same time? Surely, if you have the power to charge the batteries you don't need output.
If you’ve got 4 batteries could you run two batteries and your fridge and then plug in one or two chargers to charge your extra batteries off of it to keep an unlimited supply of power during a power outage?

Ras of right now, Nov 29-2022 power station + 4 6ah for $1,057 on the depot website. Good deal. Too bad I don't use any 40v ryobi. Hey "Shop tool reviews" amongst all cordless power station in your honest opinion which brand gives you more run time? And you forgot to say if this is sinewave power station. I know dewalt isn't and milwaukee's is.

I love the ryobi 40 volt lawn mower and I'm on my 5th year now. One battery finally died and that's acceptable. The cost to power here is not at all acceptable. Get an ecoflow because this had no features. You can solar charge it. No pass through power. Crazy expensive for way outdated features. Get a little suitcase generator for 500 bucks that can really put out 1800 watts all day for a gallon of gas. Fantastic video with great math explanations of how it works!!! I'm not concerned about what it can run as much as I am for run time because what good is a ac for example if it only runs like a half hour. I'd only us it for like a pedistle fan of light stuff not to run anything with heat etc. I need it for fans or a standard lamp to run through the entire night to keep me cool

It'll go based on the lowest battery. When 1 of them powering it dies it stops
Yes you can swap a battery without shutdown as long as there is more then one battery on the station and you can use different size batteries but if you plan on using it frequently it would be best to have 4-5ah or larger batteries for it.

Can you charge a Ryobi 40 volt battery with there quick charger while running a fridge at the same time. So that way you are always having a fresh battery charging while keeping your food cool in the fridge
if you have access to a power outlet to charge it up, why not plug the fridge into that? This is really for quick use on a site with no power or short camping. But if you must and have 8 batteries and it takes less time to charge up 4 than the fridge depletes 4 in use then sure, you can run it like that.

So if I want to use this station to power small 12V devices, does that mean I have less watt-hours, and therefore less runtime with 12V devices? I.e. 12v * 6Ah = 72 watt-hours.
the 6Ah is the battery's capacity, each is 40V so each battery provides 240Wh, 4 of them is 960Wh, this is the power supply side.
For the power draw of your device, the voltage (12V for your device) is how strong or powerful the device is, how much torque or pressure it produce etc. its power consumption needs to take it's amperage as well, which is the volume or flow rate of power it requires, this dictates how fast the device it can spin or how much volume it can move. for simplicity I'll say your 12V tool has constant voltage at 12V meaning it'll always produce same amount of torque, then it'll draw the current, Amp, at varying rate depending on what work it is doing. there is a max amp rating on it as well, look on the back label. Say the max current it can draw is 10A, and you are using the device at max power constantly then the power draw from it is 10A x 12V = 120W, this is the maximum device power draw, how much the device will try to pull from the supply. 960Wh divide 120W = 8hr, how long that device can use the batteries at maximum power before the batteries depletes.

Been looking at this for camping. Maybe just running 3 fans at night. 2 basic box fans and my ryobi hybrid air canon. Witch all that less then 300w. My question how long can I run this for under those power condition with 4 6ah batteries. I got the 18v inverter that came out this year. So I’d charge cell phones off that. But. The fans at night. Usually like camping for 3 nights. So 24h worth of charge for the fans. Can or can it come close to doing that

I don't know that I'd say that. The Milwaukee M18 Carry-On should have more output and the onboard charger is much faster. The drawback is that the Milwaukee requires 4 batteries for it to work. Thanks for watching.

Also note for few people who don't care about how much money to toss.
Ryobi also has a 3x battery pack system that has a normal 40volt battery slot cable attachment. So if you're wanting up to 5.7kw of power. Pairing soon to get Ryobi's 12ah 40volt batteries in each of their 3x power packs, Then putting 4x of those into the 1800watt power inverter, You'll not only get to Charge and use, But also have 5.7k+ power housed in the unit.
And since you can also 'Pair' this with another 1800w power station. That brings it up to 11.5kw of power storage.
It would be cool just to see someone do this!

@@aaronweiser5421 Umm yea. That isn't the point of the idea though. It's not about increasing overall output power. It's increasing the amount of BATTERY life it has.
This can run on battery. But the point of the other slots is to increase the battery life itself.
So say 1 cell can last up to a hour at such output. 2 cells gives me 2hours. This if i used 12ah cells. Then 2 giving me 2hours is nice. But if each cell slot has 3 batteries in 1 slot. That gives 1 cell slot 3hours of battery life. So 4x of that IE that's 12hours of battery life at max power output. Compared to just 4hours.
So you see the point of this? Plus since it really only takes power from 1 cell at a time. If 1 power pack is fully drain of the 3cells. It'll switch to a cell slot that is already full and the last slot you can charge. So it'll be a repetitive cycle. Or if the 3x-1 cell can charge fast enough. Then it won't even drain the first cell battery. So you could keep a stable power output without wasting power itself in general.

Honda 2200 watt generator $900 runs on a gallon of gas for 10-12 hours average gas price right now $5.00. I've owned one for 13 years still works like new. Lithium batteries alone won't last nowhere near that long.
they are very different applications most of the time. Ryobi also sells a range of petrol generators. This is something you can pull out in a pinch while you have a bunch of tool batteries with you, this is very small and light, will happy fits and sit on a desk or confined spaces, does not produce any emissions or requires any oil or maintenance (shove it in the back of the truck and forget about it for a year if you want). For light or quick jobs in doors or confined spaces with no ventilations. for larger sustained use then use a petrol generator and run the extension cords from wherever you can safely set it up.
@@penitent2401 I totally get what you’re saying but when the cost of the battery generator is the same or more than the comparable 2200 Watt Honda generator that’s 50 pounds and runs on 1 gallon of gas for 10 to 12 hours. I have owned one for more than 12 years only changed the oil in it once because it’s mainly kept around just for an emergency outage. A battery generator batteries are going to fail they will not last and the batteries are expensive to replace. Battery generators run times are gonna be way less than 10 to 12 hours on a single charge . Battery generator are just not cost-effective yet.

@@penitent2401 I have seen many TH-cam channels reviewing power stations and they are using them for the same uses as a generator to supply power to anything that uses electric. A Power Station is likely to be used by a consumer in a power outage just like a generator so I disagree with you. I agree with you that every tool has its place but when the tool does the same task which is supply power you have to compare them. Consumers need to know which tool is best for them and the cost that they will be paying and what its return will be. When the power station and its batteries cost are well over $2000 and the batteries have a limited lifespan I would much rather have a $900 Honda generator in case of a power outage it produces more watts and runs much longer without needing to recharge at all. And if you use true fuel instead of gasoline you don’t have to worry about ethanol storage problems or run the generator out of fuel for storage. Power stations and generators are intended for the same purpose to supply power to devices that require electric.

I’m not sure but I think you may be confused about the life span of lithium batteries, maybe you know more than you let on I’m not sure. I usually end up correcting people when they repeat what they hear about lithium batteries and when the life is rated in a device that those batteries will keep the capacity for 300 or 500 charge cycles , depending on the chemistry of the battery. That rating is if you drained those batteries every day straight and recharged everyday up to 100%. Then you would be left with 80% of the capacity after 300 charge cycles, so you would loose the top 20%. It doesn’t mean the battery is bad it just means the length of time it used to run a given device will be 20% less run time. You could easily double the life of that battery if only discharge down to 20%, or 1 of 4 bars left, and recharge up to 80%, or 3 of 4 bars on the fuel gauge. A charge cycle is discharging to empty and recharging to 100% full. Lithium batteries can easily last well over 10 years. These home owner grade tools are not discharged everyday. More like once a week, if that.
how long would it run cpap on four 6amp batteries
That would be a little over 900 Wh. For the sake of not being 100% efficient, let's just call it 900. Most cpap machines draw 30-60 Watts, so let's call that 50. Looks like about 18 hours runtime. Thanks for watching.

The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!
Doesn't seem to be enough to keep a freezer going long enough if power is out.
Depending on the size of the freezer, the usage, and how much frozen stuff you have in it, this would definitely run it for several hours. The more stuff you have in the freezer (frozen stuff), the more efficient the freezer is. Thanks for watching.

It looks like a great unit for some light duty stuff, but if you plan to run anything with heavy power usage, you will run the unit down very fast. Perhaps too fast. Especially with no pass-through charging. For the cost of that thing, you could buy a dam good gas generator.

I struggle to understand why someone would sell out $1000 for a power station that might get you an hour of use out of it (unless you're running fans or LED lights with it). The batteries alone are quite expensive and once they are depleated, you're out of power for almost 24 hours while you charge them back up.
I dont think is suppose be used for emergency situations more like do a all day project type thing. Because like you said once the battery is done your pretty much screwed. Even the solar panels wont produce enough constant energy to function. Thats just my guess.

I had it on my save for later list, but now I don't think I like it. I bought a whole box of closet lights and rechargeable aaa batteries. Our power went out for 2 1/2 days last year and none of our food spoiled but we did not use a generator. Thank you for the great tutorial. I'm a little slow on the uptake, but I can see I don't want this. I love Ryobi and have their pole saw, reciprocating saw, fogger, weed eater, and leaf blower. I plant to buy their scroll saw I think and some other stuff. My boyfriend is getting me a 6 pack for my Birthday, too. I do all the repairs the best I can and let him do the more exciting stuff. I don't want this anymore, though. I thought generators could light a few lights, the fridge, the freezer, his tv. Our laptops. I don't like math. I especially don't like this math. Seems so cumbersome.

Hi, does it pick up the 12ah battery? I saw a video where the 12ah battery when inserted gave a warning /error message for the bay it was inserted into. Does that happen when add the 12ah battery?
