I like the ejection idea for shoulder transfers but I am not sure if I would trust that little port not to get clogged in dirty battlefield conditions , they probably figured that and tested it who knows yet.

I enjoyed the bullpup comparisons, I haven't had to clear a malfunction on my RDB yet, but I never even thought of how much of a pain it would be if I had to get my "chubby digits" in the chamber.
CammCamm almost bought one and decided to just wait till desert tech released this. This platform completely dominates the RFB and RDB. You can get caliber conversions for this gun.
Liam Winter if caliber conversion is the only thing it has over the keltec line, especially when each kit costs as much as a new Keltec rifle, while the rifle itself cost 3x as much. I don't know about beating anything hands down let's wait for them to actually hit the main stream and see if this 1moa+ @ 60 yards accuracy is truly what they are leaving the factory with or if it's just from Tim's review sample alone.

The FN 2000 is just wonderfully accurate. I had the pleasure of firing one and could make pop cans dance at 75 yards even firing quickly. I can do that with an AR as well it was just so effortless and inexplicably more fun.
Love it. A suggestion to the manufacturer would be to offer a 20 or 22"-barrel version/option/upgrade for the .308. Its so short already, no need to cripple the 308 with a 16" barrel. It looks well designed!
@@Jebotito the point is to be as short as possible and effective. The 20" mdrx with the longer handguard and suppressor becomes a full mdr, but saves you from having a super length rifle
Was hoping to see a RFB on here as one of the comparisons. While i been waiting on the MDR i brought a RFB and I have to say that at first i thought I wasted my money cause I kept having feeding issues. Once i started playing with the gas setting and got it set correctly, no more issues. Also found it suppresses well and is not finicky on ammo. MDR is definitely still on the list but with my good luck with the RFB, who knows. Will be following this rifle to see what other people have to say about it.
I just watched a video of this rifle from InRangeTV and Forgotten Weapons and they had a ton of issues getting it to extract and feed properly. The one they had also had 6 different gas settings and they said it has a really high recoil in .308. I was also a video from yesterday.
Why? Is hitting a piece of steel or repeatedly putting holes in a piece of paper somehow not a waste of money? lol That's the beauty of owning your own firearm; operate it however makes you happy (as long as you're being safe of course)! cheers.

More if a gimmick, left the ejection port cover off as side eject is fine. Scissor action needs to be more substantial to properly push into chute to eject. Still needs design tweaks
As a US developed/built platform, I hope this rifle does well. I've had some interest since it was announced, but have since owned a Tavor, and now a X95. The ejection system is relatively complex, and complexity works against reliability, in general. Glad DT has built at least one that runs. Time will tell...

It's more about sneaking the firearm into sensitive areas. A sawed-off weapon can mount a folding/telescoping stock, you (as easily) can't conceal a bullpup. But yeah, I agree that the entire gun law system could get overhauled. Right now we have the worst of both worlds.

I used a Desert Tec 338. Lapua bullpup to take a Nilgai bull in South Texas. A bit heavy but a great rifle! I dropped my bull with a strait on chest shot at 400yrds
Bought one. Sending it back. They must have paid attention to the T&E model. The one they sent me, after having my money for a year and a half, is a DANGEROUS PIECE OF JUNK. Out of the box the trigger wobbled from side to side and had a sticky pull, and the rail section attached to the barrel sat higher than the receiver rail. I fired 120 rounds of XM80C. 2 double feeds, 4 light strikes, consistent failures to eject (at least 12x brass getting stuck in the special ejection port). It was also a pain in the ass to charge because the bolt would only close half way. But the worse part is that THE REAR TAKE DOWN PIN WALKED OUT WHILE I WAS SHOOTING. Luckily I caught it before potentially getting injured. Unfortunately Desert Tech is not being very responsive to my emails. I posted this because people should know before they buy.

i've seen the videos about shoddy accuracy but i did not experience the same problems on the X95 my brother owns i fired a few hundred rounds through it by this point its a 2 MOA rifle , most bullpups are 2 MOA if you take that into consideration it shoots as expected
I don't care if bullpups are less accurate, I will adapt like all good shooters do. What I want a bullpup for it does it very well than standard MBR setup.

There's a lot to cover. I know some folks have very short attention spans. For those who suffer from a short attention span, I suggest breaking your viewing time up into chunks. Watch for 5 minutes, play with your fidget spinner for 10 minutes, watch an another 5 minutes, play with your fidget spinner for another 10 minutes. Repeat until the video is watched. :D

Honestly, any torture test video made by the manufacture has to be taken with a shitload of salt. They are actively trying to sell it to people, they can't do that if they show it choking on dirt and mud.

I really like my RDB. I'm a lefty so I appreciate the rear ejection. Also leaks the least amount of gas when suppressed. The MDR is turning me on too, so I wonder if there is a way to add a thin gasket to the port covers? Hmmm....
Yes, you can. Some tavor users put gaskets and even teflon tape around the left-side ejection port cover. I see no reason that you couldn't do the same thing to the MDR.
The MDR is military quality based on my limited experience. The RFB is fun and mine runs fine, but in terms of the quality of materials used, the robust design and the final fit and finish, the MDR is superior.
The firing pin of my RFB broken after 500 shoots.... and i have a lot of malfunction, not loading a bullet, the empty case didn't eject, out of batterie, blocked charging handle, fire selection blocked (with a loaded bullet and the gun have shoot by itself, once i have placed it on a table...) I love the look of the gun but i wil no one advise to buy a KEL-TEC RFB! sorry for my bad english PS: good video!

We need to start a releaf organization for NY and CA residents. The sad fact is that in both states, many folks in the northern parts are actually pro-gun and 2nd. Its the south that drags everyone down.
Thanks for the very thorough and informative review. We've been waiting a few years for that but it's good that Desert Tech took their time and got it right. The multi-caliber is interesting but on the downside it does tend to make a 223 bullpup rather heavy when it also must function properly with 308. Kudos to Desert Tech for the innovative method of ejection. I like the way they maintain control of the piece of brass at all times. That's something that industrial engineers try to do when designing Industrial systems. It makes for a very reliable system.
I wasn't trying to criticize the MDR or even say it should be cheaper, I'm sure it's worth every penny. I was just trying to point out there is hole in the market because all the bullpups that I know of are in the $1,700 to $2,500 range. It would be nice to have more options for thouse who love the bullpup but can't quite afford the price. If you love over under shotguns the market doesn't only make available the $10,000 beretta, there is also the $600 stoger. I wasn't trying to start some kind of berating class warfare debate.
Honestly, that issue is a non-issue in this day and age. There are many superior options in AR pattern mags, that if something as trivial as aluminum mags not fitting is a deal breaker, just use different mags. The shear chance of needing a SHTF gun is irrevocably minor, unless you live in a city prone to natural disasters.
Remington didn't design new caliber versions in parallel, unlike DT. They may have released the 308 first, but they designed the 5.56 along side it throughout.
Remington actually did but then the AR-15 rush came & the big business higher ups wanted all production switched to AR15. Then, the moved their factory across the country while still keeping up demand of the AR-15 rush. Once that was caught up, they setup their tooling & started R&D again. It's still ashamed they didn't make it all happen at once but they are doing a lot this year on barrel assemblies. Calibers are in the works.
I wonder why all bullpups have a msrp of $1700 and up, is it just because of the cool mystic of that style of gun. Did manufacturers think hey the aug was that expensive the precedent has Been set so all bullpups are going to be expensive. It would be nice to have a bullpups that was around $1000 because nothing says I'm a space pimp from the future and I'm here to party like a bullpup

Most manufacturers change the shape, add their coatings, tweak a few things, reduce weight, try to tighten groups but nothing is just a huge leap forward. For example... if you compare the firearms industry (what small arms are capable of doing) from the 50's Vs the computer industry from the 50's Automobile industry from the 50's Mobile communications from the 50's Aerospace from the 50's Compared to those... small arms have not don't shit!

super sweet bullpup. imo it solves ALL the typical bullpup problems and does it with a very intuitive, ergonomic and easy to use system. i guess its having teething problems though or theyd be everywhere.
2250 for a new gun with few unproven concepts that price is quit steep, it is not a SCAR price yet it is a SCAR (not that scar worth it imo) i wish Savage would make some bullpups they make some decent firearms for reasonable price.

Bullpups and pistol braces are legal, but a 15.9" barrel = FELONY...Gotta love our silly gun laws

You should ask Desert Tech if you can put it through the gauntlet and compare it to the Tavor

The firing pin of my RFB broken after 500 shoots.... and i have a lot of malfunction, not loading a bullet, the empty case didn't eject, out of batterie, blocked charging handle, fire selection blocked (with a loaded bullet and the gun have shoot by itself, once i have placed it on a table...)
I love the look of the gun but i wil no one advise to buy a KEL-TEC RFB!

I am Canadian and I am looking into purchasing an RFB. Just something about a .308 Bullpup that I seem to be attracted to. Chances are even if the MDR gets approved for us Great White Northerner's, I won't have the money to pick one up so I may have to settle for the RFB. Thanks for the very thorough and informative review. We've been waiting a few years for that but it's good that Desert Tech took their time and got it right. The multi-caliber is interesting but on the downside it does tend to make a 223 bullpup rather heavy when it also must function properly with 308.
Kudos to Desert Tech for the innovative method of ejection. I like the way they maintain control of the piece of brass at all times. That's something that industrial engineers try to do when designing Industrial systems. It makes for a very reliable system.

I wasn't trying to criticize the MDR or even say it should be cheaper, I'm sure it's worth every penny. I was just trying to point out there is hole in the market because all the bullpups that I know of are in the $1,700 to $2,500 range. It would be nice to have more options for thouse who love the bullpup but can't quite afford the price. If you love over under shotguns the market doesn't only make available the $10,000 beretta, there is also the $600 stoger. I wasn't trying to start some kind of berating class warfare debate.
The Kel-Tec RDB can be had for less than 1,000$.
Honestly, that issue is a non-issue in this day and age. There are many superior options in AR pattern mags, that if something as trivial as aluminum mags not fitting is a deal breaker, just use different mags. The shear chance of needing a SHTF gun is irrevocably minor, unless you live in a city prone to natural disasters.
While you are right about the bullpup price, there are some that are battle proven, and this rifle is not, yet costs just as much.
Second time reviewing this vid. I'm sold. Being a lefty with a disability, this can be my new hunting rifle.

ACR still has a lot of support. MDR was inspired by the ACR.
Remington didn't design new caliber versions in parallel, unlike DT. They may have released the 308 first, but they designed the 5.56 along side it throughout.
Remington actually did but then the AR-15 rush came & the big business higher ups wanted all production switched to AR15. Then, the moved their factory across the country while still keeping up demand of the AR-15 rush. Once that was caught up, they setup their tooling & started R&D again. It's still ashamed they didn't make it all happen at once but they are doing a lot this year on barrel assemblies. Calibers are in the works.

I wonder why all bullpups have a msrp of $1700 and up, is it just because of the cool mystic of that style of gun. Did manufacturers think hey the aug was that expensive the precedent has Been set so all bullpups are going to be expensive. It would be nice to have a bullpups that was around $1000 because nothing says I'm a space pimp from the future and I'm here to party like a bullpup

In the case of other pups you have cost to import a lot of the components along with the cost of setting up and doing business in the US. Other countries also have high tax rates applied to the value of certain goods. Finally it is ok for companies to make a profit, even a healthy profit. The market will ultimately prevail in determining the value.

There is nothing *truly* innovative about the MDR...
Or any firearms in the past 50 years period. Most manufacturers change the shape, add their coatings, tweak a few things, reduce weight, try to tighten groups but nothing is just a huge leap forward.
For example... if you compare the firearms industry (what small arms are capable of doing) from the 50's
Vs the computer industry from the 50's
Automobile industry from the 50's
Mobile communications from the 50's
Aerospace from the 50's

First of each types of firearms are innovative... but the MDR is not.
It's a new shell with a design and function that has been used over and over.
It literally does nothing that has not been done before (that's a relevant improvement).
The bottom line still is... firearms are a slow changing field compared to agriculture, medical, technology, aerospace, logistics, & many many more. That's the undeniable truth.

What are your thoughts on that empty casing remaining in the rifle after the last round is spent? Is it a subject of concern? Or just a quirk of the gun to get used to?

super sweet bullpup. imo it solves ALL the typical bullpup problems and does it with a very intuitive, ergonomic and easy to use system.

2250 for a new gun with few unproven concepts that price is quit steep, it is not a SCAR price yet it is a SCAR (not that scar worth it imo)
i wish Savage would make some bullpups they make some decent firearms for reasonable price.
