    Some tips that are sometimes overlooked: 1. Listen carefully to the car. I have seen mechanics miss slightly bad wheel bearings or slightly bad valve lifters. 2. Never ever look at the car at night or in the rain, where I live it rains constantly so people let this slide. 3. You must must get the car on a lift, it's crazy not too. 4. A car that looks rust free can still have bad subframe rust on the top of the subframe where you cant see it.$$ expensive. 5 Drive it for a long time to try to catch intermittent problems 6. So much it comes down to the previous owners and if they cheaped out on maintenance. A car that was maintained with an open checkbook is gold.

So these knowledge will come handy soon. Do you recommend a CPO even a bit pricier? I didn't hear you talk about CPO. Thanks again!

    • @MBZMaster
      @MBZMaster  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for a sub! I'm going to talk about extended warranty in the 3rd part of the series. MB CPO is a good choice, because it's already inspected and reconditioned to Mercedes-Benz standards, and therefore comes with an extended warranty. So even if you pay a bit more, you save a lot on reconditioning, warranty, and also on the special financing rates. However, working for various MB dealers for about 20 years, I suggest to do your own inspection, regardless if it's a CPO or not. And if you find anything make MB dealership to fix it. Because people can miss stuff, and sometimes make human mistakes.

      @@MBZMaster I bought mine from west coast and shipping to East coast, so can't really inspect, but like you said, CPO warranty will give a peace of mind. I bought one just over 60K where they did all the expensive services. I hope it's the right mileage choice. Thank for the reply!

      When shopping for a used car, you maybe looking at 10 (or more) different cars. So you don't want to spend $200 every time you find something interesting. First, do your own inspection, and if passed, then you may seek a professional appraisal. But if it fails your own basic inspection, then there's no reason to spend any money anywhere.

      Carfax only shows if there was an accident reported, but many times people fix their cars without reporting, so their insurance won't go up. So, always do a basic inspection when buying a used car. You can do basic inspection yourself, as I've shown in this video series.

    MBZ, please may I ask what are the common problems on a 2008 W212 S550? And What I should be aware of? I got the car used with very low actual mileage, i.e : 73K kilometers on the clock. I replaced the spark plugs, Air filters, Fuel Pump, and 2 rear airmatic suspension and changed the engine oil and AT oil. Please, do let me know what steps did I miss and what I should be aware of. I love the design of the car and its luxurious interior, esp the ride quality. Your precious comment is fully appreciated, and last but not least, I really want to enjoy the car for much more longer period.

      I usually caution of buying the first model year after the major redesign. But the good news, 2008 model was the second year, as it was redesigned in MY 2007. 2 things come to mind on that model that I would inspect are the Air Suspension, and AC Climate control. They used to be prone to problems, and sometimes costly. Another thing I strongly recommend on any 15 year old MB is to perform a "Software Update". That's extremely important because it runs on a bunch of computer networks. You can perform the software update at any MB dealership, or any independent mechanic shop specializing in MB.
