I started building my own rods based on watching you. And you are right, have ended up repairing a few guides, a tip, and replaced an entire old cork handle and seat with split Winn grips for a great "new" rod. Money well spent on the set up.

    Great video Matt.
I would like to see a handle repaired on a Casting Rod that needs to be totaled replaced.

Loved the trick with the hot melt glue. Have to replace and eye on my rod this winter and that will be a big help. Thanks Matt.

Thank you so much. I really needed to see this. I've been meaning to fix a few guides but was nervous. Now I'm feeling pretty confident.

I did one of these myself this week...basically just like you did it! I have at least two more to do this winter. Very informational!

Like Matt said even though I’m super handy I was always intimidated by rod repair. I learned a lot by stripping an old rod down to a bare blank. A dremel with a cut off wheel to remove the reel seat. Once stripped I practiced by putting a couple guides back on. I turned that old blank into a reamer. The Flex Coat channel has a great tutorial on that. The most important thing I’ve learned is that below 70 degrees the thread finish epoxy doesn’t fully cure and harden.

How about using some heat? Like match and heat up the metal eye part pull it out with pliers and place a new guide and some 2 part glue?

You can do it but generally that won’t hold. Nearly as long, I’d prefer to fully repair

Matt, you forgot to tell them about putting it on the rod spinner for drying the epoxy,so it dries spread out and even.😮
