Window screens face the outdoor elements 24/7 and can get dirty FAST. Opening your windows for fresh air doesn’t feel so fresh if your screens are full of dust and dirt. Thankfully, cleaning them is simple! Here are our 2 simple methods to clean your screens and get them looking brand new again.

I’m always amazed at how much more light gets into the house after I clean the screens, even if the windows were spotless to begin with. Huge difference!

Our screens look totally impossible to remove. I even had my husband look at them. They look nothing like these.
Are they in with a spring maybe? If we weren't shown how to take ours out I would have had no idea. Kinda pull straight down on it and see if it moves? Ours have little springs in them so we slide them down to push springs in and pop the screens out!
We have an old house, and our screens do not come out unless we unscrew them and take the whole storm window out. Cleaning windows is virtually impossible without risking your life on a ladder!
Oh my goodness! One of my absolute favourite cleaning tasks. Feels sooo satisfying to get rid of all that dust and dirt.

I leave my screens in all winter so cleaning them and the windows is the best sign of spring to me!

Amazing way to clean windows!
I’m an addict to your tips now because everything I’ve tried works so well!
It works better outside w/garden hose sprayer. Use pail of warm soapy water w/light brush & lay screens on a flat surface. Rinse well w/hose then lean against a wall; let dry in the sun while you're cleaning the glass. Goes fast and less labor to it.
I'm in a condo now and don't have an outside sprayer. That does sound easier but I am thankful for the options.
I used the Dawn Power Wash and the Aqua Blade. Such a great combination!

I have the daunting task of cleaning over 30 windows and screens. Our home sits next to 160 acres of woods and it's pollen season. I am not looking forward to this task, but I can't wait to see what comes out of these screens. Thanks for helping us change our cleaning methods, Sarah!

Goodness, Dawn Powerwash is the MacGyver of cleaning products. I love to clean my screens in spring...makes a huge difference.

Clean windows and screens are the best!!
This is my 2-for-1 project in spring…i rinse them on the lawn and dish soap supposedly helps lawns absorb more water!
@dk92hoo I used the Dawn Powerwash method, did them in the driveway, and rinsed them with the garden hose

Just think what your windows would look like or what would get inside your home when you open the windows without screens! They deserve a little love.
I missed the wiping step when using tide and water method…and it definitely shows!

Using an old body brush is more efficient. Much faster and it cleans inside the holes instead of just the sides. I also pasted the dawn spray onto the brush like a toothpaste, so it uses less soap.

A high quality fluffy microfiber will also clean screens with just water. The wet fibers will just wipe dirt right off!

Thank you!! I needed this info. My neighbor was having a mental health flare up and threw a banana at our window and left a slimy mark on our front window screen. I didn't know how to safely clean it without ruining the screen.
