Can we just take a second to appreciate the enormity of this moment? I know a lot of us have followed Darious's journey in making this film over the years, and I personally never imagined that he would release his "proper" film on his TH-cam channel. I'm really grateful that you've done this, man, not only because we get to see what you've been working on all this time, but also because of the sign it gives--that TH-cam is a platform for "proper" content, for real feature-length movies that people spend years making. TH-cam may be your "side hustle", but your side hustle is so good, Darious, that you have created a fan base of 268K subscribers who will now appreciate your work. You don't need a distributor: you've created your OWN means of distribution. All the old structures and institutions of filmmaking--studios, distributors, executives--are gradually falling away, and TH-cam isn't the poor cousin of the "proper" film industry anymore: it is every bit as "valid" and "proper", and will continue to become more so. Sorry this is a bit long winded lol but I just think this is a really important moment. What a journey. Thank you, bro!!

I suffer from Schizophrenia as well. I take my shots faithfully. I had ran into traffic before. Yelled at strangers and clerks. Stolen from stores. Wrote threatening letters to people. Beat myself with sticks. Cut myself with razors. Walked around with incense. Poured liquor over my head. Slept in a cemetery. Ate out the garbage. Had so many delusions. But Those days are behind me now. Seeing her reminded me of the burden I was on my family and the community as well. This movie taught me a lesson. Thank you.

He's right, you're not alone. Mental illness is comical, until it's your family members going through it. Delusions of seeing unicorns are funny, until it's your daughters mom going through it and you have to explain to your 7 year old why she can't see her mom for her birthday unsupervised. I struggled with this for YEARS, and still do to this day. People don't think about the toll that mental illness takes on their family members, it's so incredibly stressful having to explain a family members erratic behavior to friends and other family members. It's embarrassing. Darious I don't know how you did it, and if it really was your mom then I'm at a loss for words. I'm excited to learn more about this story in the documentary. And if you or anyone else has any suggestions on how to handle it or manage family members, I'm listening.
And Darious I remember stumbling across your channel years ago and watched some random video on film making, didn't think twice about it, had zero interest in film makin myself. Fast forward to now starting my own adventures and I learned damn near everything from you. Not even so much film making but how to make your videos fun and engaging. I like to try a lot of different elements from different creators and definitely mixed in a bit of your style. I was mad when you stopped uploading for so long but to now know the reason why, it was worth the wait.
Thank you for everything man, honestly.

I was distracted at times by the focus being ever so slightly off and the look of what could be digital NR maybe..? But i guess that’s what it’s gonna be with a sensor that size and such a small screen/ monitor, maybe no reliable focus peaking.

This movie is not just great, it's not just important-it's a film that I think should be viewed by as many people. It's a film whose message should never be unheard, a film whose craft should be celebrated and I want Darious to know this "You are great". Darious, you've worked on your craft and helped us for years and I only want to support you and to see your craft and stories be told to everyone. In my highest hopes and beliefs, I'd want you to become a filmmaker who goes on to make the big films that everyone sees-so you can show the stories that matter. I have not dealt with a family member with a mental illness before. But, this struck a chord for me personally. The depth of "Reggie" having to deal with this situation was drowning. I deal with my mother and Alzheimers and I had to deal with my first wife and her mental illness while I was in the military. This was difficult to watch as it progressed. And why did I continue watching? It helped me not feel alone with the issues I deal with and dealt with in the past. See, that was the hardest thing to watch, the loneliness within the situation. The wanting out, but also the overpowering urge to rectify or at least help make things better. Watching the tape of her on stage was the same for me watching how my mother used to be before her disease took over and replaced her. It's hard, no - it's damn difficult and at times disturbing to see our loved one suffer through their situation. Thanks for allowing all of the hard work and dedication that all of you put into making this come into the light. And thank you for allowing us to see this here on this platform. If I'm able to support in any other way, it only takes keystrokes...D4D, I'm there! BRAVO.

The dialogue is probably my favorite aspect of the entire film. It all feels like real people having real emotional conversations and it can even be comedic and make me chuckle when it needs too. And as for acting, for the most part all the performances were good and I believed the characters they played. Despite the low budget you managed to use some well done cinematography and it really brought another layer to the story. Despite me praising the writing however, I do not like how the subplot of the jeep film fits in with the mother storyline. I love aspects of it, like the main characters struggle with his job and his relationship with his friend. But alot of times the actual jeep aspect could be a bit distracting from the rest of the film (in my opinion). With that being said I really enjoyed this film and it shows that you do not need a blockbuster budget or big name stars to make an emotional film that can have an impact. The story and the intent behind it was all really well done, and I am excited to see what comes next.

Everyone who loves and cares for someone struggling with mental illness should see this. It’s so real and offers rare insight into how firmly the cards are stacked against the family and the patient. The fallout for everyone is devastating and HIPPA laws are fiendish in their privacy protection that somehow works against everyone’s best interests. There aren’t easy answers, but this film also ended in a moving and hopeful way. I am glad I ran across it.

Darious, this movie is outstanding. I was captivated every second. It brought back memories of the '63 Vooom Tweedle Tweedle I drove in '77 while in high school. And of my friend Neil whose family purchased 10 acres and a mobile home on a dirt road out in the woods so his mom would not have neigbors to disturb and no traffic to harm her when she had her episodes. That was when the government closed most of their mental institutions and turned all but the violent mental patients out to the streets. It takes a lot of love, patience and self sacrifice to care for people with mental illness. So many people have no awareness of the problems affected families have to deal with and so little compassion. This film so realistically depicts the struggles faced by so many. It is also a great drama film with excellent cinematography. Well done. Thank you for sharing it on TH-cam.

After watching the movie for a second time, I must say that it was one of the best movies I have seen because it touched my heart for both the son and his mother. The young man had a good upbringing by his mom which showed how much he loved her because he stuck by her showing humanity of his generation which is hard to come by these days. The movie showed that his mom had been a Comedian in her past but somehow lost her connection to her self worth and identity in fitting in to this strange fast paced world which is happening to a lot of seniors who loose their place of prospective after losing support and misplacement in life. This is not only something that is running rapid in America but is an epidemic all over the world. Although, it is something that has not only been taking our older people but people of all ages. Darious you are just the person who addressed the true reality of it all and I do believe this is going to go viral and make you quite famous for addressing it in the manner that you have. I believe you are going to push America to do something about it to make a positive difference in a more positive way before it all falls a part and becomes a 3rd world Country of people undoing themselves by running after the money and throwing their families and others away and going really no where other than to a dead end. My notes about your shooting is that I am also proud of you as a filmmaker and a story teller. I believe you'll be joining the platform very soon with Spike Lee and Tyler Perry as highly qualified. So keep on with your work and ignore any of the jealous negative hecklers which I only saw only a couple of them because you are on your way. I sure would like to see you do a part 2 or even consider looking into doing an ongoing television serious on the subject. The first time I saw your movie was on my Television Blue Ray Channel and now I am going to suggest that all of my family and friends watch. A friend of mine who is a hospital worker said that she saw your movie and she said that she has heard a lot of Americans say that they are in agreement with your mom on that something strange is going on in America. So I think if you do a part 2 to your movie it will be good to put what happened in your mother's life that cause it to change and what are some of the realities to her illusions and are there any merit to them because a lot of people are saying those same things that she is talking about and that too is strange. I'd look into it if I were you. Well I will be looking and hoping to see a second part coming up soon because I am curious about you and your mom. I think because you did this one movie on that subject that you have doors opening to you that will allow you get a lot of funding to do the next one. Please look into it.

Congrats on finishing this project 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Last Night, I had every intention on watching something on network TV or cable TV. All those intentions went out the window once I clicked play on “Making Unsound”.
I was glued to my screen for the next 3 hours. Not only did I watch, “Making Unsound”, but I was compelled to immediately watch the movie as well.
You have truly given the world a gift. Your movie gives people a reason to pay more attention to those who deal with the untold affects of mental illness.
Thank you for sharing your process in making this film and thank you for sharing the journey that you and millions of people face daily.

Darious, as professional, I've thoroughly enjoy watching your content. It constantly inspires me. After watching your "making of" and finally watching this I have a much bigger insight to who you are and your journey. Thank you for being vulnerable enough to share this! This film was truly engaging from the start. I originally was going to watch it in segments because of my schedule but I couldn't stop watching. Excellent work! I look forward to seeing what you produce in the future! God Bless!

This film was randomly suggested and I have to say that this truly hit home.
I had almost the same experience with a loved one I lived with while I was in high school and it was tough.
So thank you for this message.

Darious, that was great man! 🙌🏼 I was hooked from the beginning. It’s great to see a TH-cam tutorial channel that has REAL work to back up everything that’s taught. I’ve always loved your content, and it’s helped me SO much in my own filmmaking education to where I finally made and released my first short film (after hearing you say many times to actually go practice the things you taught me). I’m working on my next one now, and this was great motivation once again to see what possible. I don’t have to tell you to keep it up cause I know you’ll keep crushing it! Thanks again for sharing this bro, and EXCELLENT work!!

This is a fantastic way of sharing a feature film. In this time of day and age an online release where you can reach tons of people is even better than a screening at a festival. This is the future of filmmaking. Great work on the film!

      @TwistVisuals 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yup! People aren't going to cinemas anymore unless it's a big film. Most low budget filmmakers have to resort to online. In the end, it's not really about the money.

I have so much to say yet I’m speechless. You honestly did a excellent job on this film; you left nothing out. I learned so much and was deeply moved. The times you were in distress, I wanted so bad for someone to just give you a long hug, rub your back & comfort you.
I know how it feels to take care of a parent and take over the position of being an adult much sooner than you would like; trying to balance your school/ work life and taking care of the household. But your story was on a WHOLE ‘nother level. For that, I applaud you for staying strong throughout everything and being such a great son & human being. Not to mention having the weight of the world on your shoulders as an African-American male not expecting to show emotions.
I truly hope everything is much better with your mother, that she has gotten the help she needs and you’re able to continue achieving your dreams. Thank you for sharing this. Hopefully one day we get to work on something together. Good Luck with everything & God Bless.
P.S. That friend of yours is a keeper.

Congrats! I loved the use of those static wide shots and frame within frame type shots. The writing was spot on, almost no scene seemed unnecessary, but what impressed me the most was the way the overall pacing and handling of time the scenes was handled, that's very, very easy to get wrong and you absolutely nailed it. This felt like a very honest, simple (in a very good way) portrayal of a very complex situation.

Darious, I just watched your film and the only problem I had was some audio issues. THE FILM WAS SO GOOD THO! I never felt bored and I was always interested in the plot. The characters were really great, Reggie was like a really good cake: layered and thicc. The cinematography was truly fantastic, not only for a TH-cam film but just for any film, the opening shot, with Darylene (think that’s how you spell it) as a silhouette, will go down as one of my favourite shots of all time! Overall really great film!!! Keep ur the great work. I love all your work!

Only felt the transition into the title was a little on-the-nose; just the plain shot before the title fade was enough IMO. As for audio, there were a couple times, like the billiard scene, where you can tell the back music is added in post by how it differs from the acoustically from the other sounds. Also, in the scene where he and his mom are at the care center when he pressures her about signing the release, where midway through the scene the ambient lighting and overall vibe of the place noticeably shifts like it was filmed on a different day. But overall, given the limited resources, such issues were handled professionally. Definitely too good for TH-cam.

It gives me the courage to push myself to complete my films. If you can do it so can I. It was very detailed in explain how life is living with mental illness. The acting was also amazing. I could the stress level of all characters. it was so touching I was getting stressed out myself (lol) But honestly great job I speak for everyone when I say we wan't to see more of your work Keep it up Darious I enjoyed your film.
