This speedrun has so many green flags. Alternating between each character to even out the contributor tally at the end of the game. Showing where all the mushrooms are. Showing secret areas. Playing the bonus game. Not using warps. Grabbing items in midair because it's cool. Loved it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

And, with no time and the enemies returning when you go back in a level, you can kjII them over and over again for fun(this can help you recover hearts if you need them or you can do it just for fun)! Not to mention, this was the 1st game were Mario characters looked somewhat modern(up until the N64 at least)! If you want a challenge, then play most of your levels with Mario and Toadstool(they lack the jumping height plus range of Luigi and range Princess). Can you imagine playing this game years after SMB1new as I did?!

It amazes me how the unwillingness of Nintendo to release the Japanese version of SMB2 led to this icon of a game. It's one of those happy coincidences. The Mario brothers franchise owes this game a lot in terms of physics and game play.
Man I really don't remember SMB 2 growing up. I guess SMB 2 Was not as successful as SMB 1 and 3. When SMB3 came out it was every bit as advertised. Such a game changing awesome game.

@@dcamuito3000 If you are referring to bezel artwork, yes you need a video editor for it. For alteration / improvement of sprites of the entire game, you need a sprite editor.
I don't get it... wouldn't goin into the subworld for a mushroom and a coin waste time that could have been saved? Or is the slot machine minigame + going into the subworld less time than not doing that?
In this case the S in TAS means 'Superplay' instead of 'Speedrun' - the goal isn't to go as fast as possible but just have a run with little to no input errors
I think I remember reading somewhere that the reason this Mario game seemed so weird compared to other ones was because this was essentially a whole different game with basically a "Mario skin" over the main character and enemies and music
SMB2 for the NES was originally a different game from Japan that was never released. It had nothing to do with SMB, just replaced the main character with Mario instead of what they had originally created for the original game that was shelved. Boom! You got a new Super Mario game. The SMB2 game that was released in Japan actually looks identical to the first SMB for NES, just with much more complicated levels. It was considered "too difficult" for Americans, so it was never released here.

This was the last Mario game I ever played
this was the weirdest Mario I ever played as kid, no secret stages, not much puzzling/challenges, just straight gimmicky. Still enjoyed a ton though
How do you get 777's constantly? I got pretty good at cherries, sometimes 2 or 3 in a row.
