Tool assisted speedruns or TAS means they use software and frame by frame have it press the right keys at the right time to create a perfect run. It's not easy to make so I'm not trying to take anything from the creators, it sounds like you think this is a guy recording his game play though and it's not that! You should check out actual speedrunners of the game though, they are very nearly as good as this but do it themselves with a controller! They are incredible.

Imo the anchor is the most useless power up in the game. Since you get it by collecting all of the coins in a few levels, and it can only be used on the airships to prevent them from flying around. However, collecting every single coin in the level has a higher difficulty than completing the airship, so if you manage to do it, there's a good chance you're skilled enough to beat the airship in one go anyway.
Unreal level of skill, I just got back into Mario and boy am I rusted out in terms of game play lol. I can’t even pass the first world like I used to do back in the 90s. I’m 48 now and back in 94I was something like 19 or 20 and could outsmart the game lol. I even hacked a vcr to be able to record my sessions by hooking the nes directly to the tv in jack on the vcr so that the video and audio would come through the vcr and then through the tv lol. Was a cool setup indeed.

it was 8-1 for me...that was a massive spike in difficulty when I first got there as a kid with only a FEW lives left and no save function...
