I hired a professional organizer to help me put my whole house (1250 sq ft) together after move. I had so much stuff coming from my larger house. By the time she was done, I had my sewing room, kitchen, and master closet put together and beautiful. It all cost me $800. I used my own containers and we got rid of a lot of stuff.

@@rmora1 I have been an independent woman, not wanting to depend on others for anything, but as I’ve gotten older, I realize that others see things differently than I do. Often, they have a much better perspective or have learned more in an area which I have not. Do I hire a professional when I have plumbing issues beyond what I can fix? Absolutely. Do I hire a professional to paint my walls? Not usually; I have the skill & ability to do that job. Do I hire a professional to fix my vehicle when it breaks down? Yes, I do. Did I hire a professional to require my house when we were fixing it up? No, my husband & I were able to do that ourselves. Did I hire someone to raise my children for me when they were younger? No, I was blessed to stay at home with them & teach them basic life skills & beginning schooling. Do I fault other for hiring childcare? No, that’s their choice.
All I’m saying is, there are times when hiring a professional is the right call & times when we have the skill & ability to do a job ourselves. Each of those situations will be different for all of us. I’m not going to fault someone for hiring a professional house cleaner, though, if they need it. I don’t call someone out for wanting to hire me to design their webpage. We all have different skills & should use them to help ourselves & others, when needed.
Please be considerate when commenting on someone else’s video & don’t make people feel bad for agreeing with the TH-camr. We can all choose to be kind & follow our Mom’s advice: if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all. 😊

I've hired professional organizers multiple times and it was worth EVERY PENNY to me! I had someone help me declutter my home office and basement storage room. What I valued most was having someone motivating me and being a voice of sanity. "Do you really need 3 of these?" It was especially helpful for decluttering and organizing sentimental stuff - I felt like I needed permission to let things go. Now I feel more confident to give myself that permission, and I've learned from them along the way.

I hired a team (professional organizer and interior designer) that turned one of our messy rooms into a studio space for me. It's where I keep all of my shoes, handbags, purses, wigs and other hair pieces, and where I film content. It was absolutely worth it for me! They have since re-done my bathroom/makeup area and my craft room, and they are working on our garage next. The process was different for me than for you - they actually come to my house and do the work for me. Wow! Great video. In 2018 I had started a home Oganizational Business, drawing on former Commercial/Residential skills, design skills, 65 moves, and six kids, organization became second nature to me. I was also gifted with savant like "spacial differential" abilities. My rate was $50/ hour and I would make an initial appointment first and take notes, then give an estimate, and write a contract.
It's important to know your objectives then meet them. My spine was broken in 2019 and It put an end to the fun. I have always thought of organization as a cross between an Art and a Game. But your video and the comments below are really inspiring me to pick up the mantle again. I can tell you this, my clients were thrilled when I was able to find them more space where they didn't think they had any.. And in organizing them quickly and efficiently they were happy often to find things they thought they'd lost and their overall outlook was improved. People hesitate to call on professionals sometimes not just because of money concerns, but because they fear judgement or shaming.
A Pro will never make you feel bad about your space, instead should be kind and compassionate. Things should never be forced, but rather agreed upon. And if an organizer does their job right their customer should generate residual business for them by word of mouth.

My husband and I are currently building our forever home and I'm wondering if I should look into this service before we order cabinets so we can get the most out of our space? I feel like I'm a pretty good organizer too (especially when it comes to my kitchen), but this intrigues me. I'm really liking the idea that the organizer knows what product would fit my stuff and space. Finding the right size is the most painful part of the process IMO. I also don't have anything other than a Walmart near by so buying products is a huge pain. Thanks!

My husband has been a cabinet maker for 50 years. He’s built us new kitchens in 3 houses during those years. One thing I learned a long time ago, if you can afford to buy or have made frameless cabinets, you will get 33% more useable space. The cabinets are also stronger than face frame cabinets. Last year he built our final one. This one has as many drawers as I could get in my space. I mean, lots of BIG drawers. 9 of them. And I bake quite a bit so I have a cabinet with a lift for my Kitchenaid mixer. 3 of my drawers right next to it are 42” wide and hold all my baking stuff. There are professional kitchen organizers that can help design your kitchen and then an organizer can help with organizing your stuff. We spent 4 years designing our new kitchen before we built any of it. I had lived with the existing kitchen for 14 years and knew what I wanted and needed by the time my husband began fabricating. Good luck!

I hired a professional organizer for $95 an hour, with a three hour minimum. The only thing I needed her for was paperwork. It took about five hours because I had about six bankers boxes of documents going back years, and a lot of it was very emotional stuff. There’s an organization that certifies professional organizers who deal with people with hoarding problems and she not only organized my things, the way she worked trained me in organizing myself. I have had about one file drawer of paperwork at any one time and I’ve never regretted it.

I never knew that virtual organizers existed! Such a great idea especially after covid. Plus then you can use someone miles away if there isn't anyone locally. Thanks for this video. I have never paid a professional but in my first apartment I had an awesome neighbor who came over daily and she constantly was moving things and telling me why. She taught me how to use the envelope system for finances and when that didn’t work for me she taught me a different way that worked with my brain. A few years later and two kids later after I had moved to a house she came once a month or so and still did her thing. She was amazing at repurposing things. She moved out of state when my kids were in their early teens. Her way of explaining what and where and why was invaluable. If I had not had her I absolutely would have had to pay someone for every room in the house. My mom was super clean and the house I grew up in had an organizational system that I tried to recreate and it just didn’t work.

Being a military family makes it tough. I desperately need a professional organizer every time we move (18 houses in 23 years - yes, you read that right! ) the tough part is the expense that would come with every house. I might get one house organized but the next one is a different story - different amounts AND different sizes of cabinets and shelves, drawers and closets. I've been in my current house 9 months now and my bedroom/bathroom still have boxes in them because I don't know what to do with my stuff. My craft/ sewing room has never been organized, only had an actual room a couple of times. So right now a lot of it is in the garage and jumbled in boxes so I can't find anything. I have linens (table cloths and napkins) that don't have a home and honestly after 23 years I'm tired of trying to make it work, and I'm tired of my house never being "finished" before we move to the next house.
🤔 Maybe you could come help me organize at this house a bit and then the next house after we move again. 😉 You could help me see things from a different perspective and maybe we could find some ways to make the organizing easier with each move.
So many people move around these days that surely there's a way to organize with a professional or at least someone better than myself that can help me make the multi-move organization not so overwhelming.
❤ I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE you and your posts. THANK YOU for all the work you do to post these. 💕

I hired an organizer to help me declutter and organize in the summer of 2021. I’m physically disabled so I also needed the assistance in handling the stuff and She was amazingly helpful. I hired her again this spring to come back and revisit what we’d done in one of the sessions the prior year as my needs had changed AND it was the first room we had done and I wasn’t ruthless enough when getting rid of stuff. Now the whole house is SO great. I’m enjoying the peace and relaxation of knowing where everything this because everything has a place. It was a awesome investment in myself. Totally worth it. My organizer is Serinspace in Vancouver WA.

It's understandable, but try to think organically and naturally, there are zones in every kitchen and in time it will all make sense to you. For example when we do kitchens dinner plates drinkware salad bowls Etc are always placed as close as possible through the sink and the dishwasher, most people do that naturally. The same goes for the other zones in your kitchen, for example in your cooking Zone which would be where your stove is you would Place spices, condiments, spatulas and kitchen tools, baking trays Etc all of those things you need handy when cooking including oven mints. In your prepping a Zone which is where you prep food you would need foils Ziploc bags kitchen tools knives Tupperware Etc, if you have kids and you have the space you can make a kids zone, usually it's on the lower cabinet so the kids could be independent, we usually put their kids plates and bowls drink bottles and snacks that they are allowed to access themselves. Depending on the layout of your kitchen near the stove you would also have the pots and pans area. The appliances that do not leave on your counter are usually place this close as possible to your prep area, items that are used less often like for holidays for example, or applying shoes that you use once in a while I usually placed in the least accessible areas either in the back of deep cabinet or on upper shelves that are harder to reach. Basically the best way to do it is think accessibility, whatever you use most has to be in your Prime real estate area, whatever you use less goes up high or behind other items. Create zones based on the way you work in your kitchen. Keep likes with likes, and Corral small items in containers. Things like pasta boxes or peanut butter jars don't need a container they stand on your own, but things like pouches and other items that may fall or make a mess are better kept in containers and it doesn't have to be expensive ones. Also if you have a very deep cabinet especially for spices you would do better if they were contained so that you can pull the whole container out and pick the spices that you need versus having to move all of the spices to get what's in the back. As you start to live and use your kitchen you will find the way that works best for you but I hope this couple of tips helped. :-)

Thanks for sharing your experience, Kallie. My husband and I hired a professional organizer to work with us on our garage, which was my husband's domain. With all the tools, kids' toys, lawn and garden stuff, etc. it was a lot! She came to our house, spent the whole day with us, and used a lot of the organizers we had but tweaked how they were used. She also gave us a list of organizers to buy and how/where to use them, and we followed her instructions. I don't remember the cost, but we felt like it was totally worth the money.

I so appreciate your common sense, positive attitude and respectful approach. I have many challenges with clutter and it’s been rough for a number of years now. My partner and I live in a relatively small townhouse and we are grateful for being here considering how many people have been struggling in the past 15 years and nearly losing the house ourselves after the crash of 2008. About 10 years ago I did try to take control of the problems with clutter by hiring a professional organizer. She charged around $35 an hour when other people I had looked into were $60 to $150 per hour, which I didn’t feel we could afford. She turned out to be a lovely woman who had a lot of good ideas.
The problem was that I was not yet at a point where I could work efficiently with her. I would’ve had to have her with me for many hours sorting through things that I just couldn’t do alone, and that would have been a huge expense even with her reasonable rate.
She did offer us the opportunity to receive an overall plan the way your organizer did. I think at the time I may have made a mistake in thinking I needed help with the details. If I had it to do over again, I would try the plan. But I still learned from her.
My goal now is really the same: to find a gentle way to begin sorting through things that are quite hard for me to sort through. As I’m watching some of your videos, I am feeling hopeful…
    Many thanks!
    Doug

A playroom seems a lot easier to organize than a new kitchen. $200 for a kitchen organizing map seems well worth it to me, but that’s also because a well-functioning kitchen makes life easier. For a lot of jobs, it’s just nice to have an extra set of hands to make the work go more quickly.

WHERE DID YOU BUY ALL THE CONTAINERS?? Also, where are you located, state and city? Finally, about how much did you spend and what did you buy when it came to all the containers, etc? I just finished organizing tons of 4 kids, my parents and my keepsakes and seasonal decorations! I spent about $500 on containers and $325 on shelving(all rock-bottom prices)! 6-20 gallon tubs, 32-13 gallon containers, 3 heavy duty stainless steel shelves (nice industrial vibe) and some other specialized containers. Thanks so much for the information!

I would love to hire a professional organizer. My main concern is sentimental clutter, things of my Grandparents, Parents, then my husband's and my stuff. My husband is very organized, almost OCD, and neither of us function well around clutter. 75% of the clutter is mine, I moved into his house which was fully furnished and I brought all my stuff and we have integrated a lot and transformed some spaces into ours, but we still have so many unnecessary things that are sentimental value. That's the hardest. Plus I have become physically disabled (hips) and I do need the physical help. Thank you for sharing your experience and definitely give us an entire before and after kitchen tour if you can.

I don't do Instagram so I missed the question about have you ever used an organizer .....yes I HAVE - moved from a home with a three section pantry = to a home with a one section pantry ...I NEEDED help - cost me 800 plus containers - one full day (she came in ) assessed -then another whole day (about two weeks later) to fill/load all the containers (labeled by her) and organized. that she BOUGHT and I paid her back for the items she selected... YES totally worth it - we used container store/target and Walmart for containers. I would totally do it again ...she was a local independent gal who advertised on the local Facebook group ...glenda (cant wait to see your kitchen )

I have been working with an organizer for years and together we have accomplished a lot. I was a prolific shopper for many years but never got rid of anything so I was overflowing with stuff. I don't buy like I used to and I know where things belong and I put them away when not in use. It is wonderful to feel proud of your space and not embarrassed to have people come over. I highly recommend using an organizer if you have trouble getting motivated or just don't know where to start.

Although I see the value in organization systems and routines, I feel like the cost of the supplies is a bit high. Most average household can't afford $800 worth of plastic just for one room. Personally I think there are more affordable options, other than The Container Store which is usually the most expensive option. Secondly that's a whole lot of plastic and the world don't need more plastic but less. This is just my opinion but I would focus on having less, making it visible and easily accessible without excessive use of plastic.

Did you look into built-in solutions? I feel like 50% of organizing is making up for poor designs. I have bought SO many organizational things over the years, I probably would've saved money if I had paid upfront for a custom kitchen cabinet design. Of course there are some things that still need to be purchased like food containers and the like, but something I love about older homes is that they have a lot of built in features like knife racks, lazy susans, pull-out utensil holders, custom inserts for pans, etc.
