@@treyatkinson7564 the hardest to actually swing. i was looking at him through a goofy sad face saying "Dont make me do this..." i kept pulling him and running away as hard as i could lmao.ended up with him and me split on the bridge.
I agree with the story and sort of gameplay, and the reason I say sort of gameplay is because something the skill up review said “Jedi survivor adds, more than it tweaks/changes to its combat” and this is true, they added a lot of moves and depth to the moves of the combat but not the core gameplay and mechanics. Just feels flashy rather than effective, well crafted, and engaging like something like god of war. Hopefully in the next game tho
@@MesserMusic I’ve seen many people complain about it including reviewers that say it’s “alright” or “serviceable”. you are probably only being clouded because everyone is crying about performance issues that will obviously get patched out. Also I think you mean why fix a flawed game in the first place, or you need to at least branch out your game selection more because this games combat isn’t anything special in its core mechanics. It’s just flashy but doesn’t work in its gameplay loop that well for what type of game it is
@@BiggieJ4224 I mean, sure it is flashy but I do,t see a lot of moves NOT being useful. Lots of the single, target attacks in multiple stances are great for guard breaks. There are multiple parry systems, each with their advantages. Each combat style is suited to different situations or simply preference. Idk man. Most of the moves feel very useful especially in the force tree. I do think they could expand stuff more but what we have here is already awesome.
I’m a huge Star Wars fan, and I can’t imagine playing this game without finishing it. The story is sooo good! I don’t typically complete games, so most are either “finish it” or “play it” in my book
I'm kinda blown away when I hear people say they've been loving the story in this one. For me the story has been a giant snooze-fest compared to the first game. Oh well.
@@travistotle Just finished the game and I've got to say, I agree with you. The story was absolutely uninteresting and the world was... strangely shaped. Fewer environments than on the first game yet bigger maps. Too big actually, so boring. Overall, not a bad game per se, but definitely worse than the first one.
It's interesting how I have almost the complete opposite experience with stances, as someone else who's just finished completing the game. The crossguard stance, I found, was probably the best stance for bosses on Grand Master because you can often only get a few hits in between their aggressive phases anyway so the big meaty damage it did was great. I also almost never used the single style stance. I usually used either Blaster + Dual or Blaster + Crossguard. I also used the force confusion a lot on big enemy groups to keep aggression off of me. Different playstyles for different folks.
I find Blaster is only really worth using in New Journey + with harder enemies and both Damage Perks equipped, turning it into a realistic blaster that's worth using. i.e. One-shotting most enemies and doing a lot of damage with charge shots against big enemies. It really shines in high-lethality like this. On the first Playthrough, I usually went with Dual + Double at first, but once I got the hang of Cross I went with Cross + Double. However, in-between I had a time where Cross + Dual was my go-to just because I liked the lightsaber throw on dual. The only one I have no use for really, is single blade...
Crossguard in general not only allows you to punish bosses between their attack patterns, but it also lets you force them on the defense more aggressively when chunking their block meter.
I just finished gane on grandmaster and i find blaster the one to go with for bosses, perk that increase dmg after using pistol and after switching stand is insane combo
Don’t be fooled by this review. The cross guard stance is extremely powerful. If you can be patient, you will dominate with it. There is a skill gap for it, but just like every stance, it can take time to truly master them. Learning the ins and outs of a stance is a game changer. My own pets experience comes from exclusively using the double blade stance during my playthrough. It’s great for groups and many say it struggles 1 on 1 vs tougher foes, but after hours of learning the stance, it can be very effective in 1 on 1. All the main story bosses I beat with the double blade on jedi master and it was truly satisfying. It really made me feel amazing and skillful.
For real. When I unlocked it I didn't think I was going to use it but something clicked making me think of elden ring and dark souls, and once I got the timing right I was absolutely ripping through enemies with it. It became my go to stance for moments where I wanted to just kill everything and move on.
@zachd3189 absolutely. Once I figured out the timing and effective moves in 1v1s, it was amazing all around. It still struggles against beasts a bit imo, but that’s about it. Normal boss fights it’s good and it’s amazing against groups and blaster fire.
Just FYI for people who are not aware, during cutscenes the game changes to Quality mode automatically, and then changes back to Performance if that's what you were using. Pausing during the cutscene and changing the mode to Performance enable it to run at 60 fps.
Damn, it's been awhile since I disagreed so strongly with Jirard, this game is an incredibly well crafted and enjoyable action adventure. The main problems that plague this game are more the performance issues on PC than flaws with the game itself. This game feels like it was made by people who "get" Star Wars, and they did a fantastic job with the story and characters, but I don't feel you NEED to be a Star Wars fan to get into this game, I'd recommend this to anyone who's a fan of action adventure games as it's just a damn good time. Taste and preference is subjective though of course, but I can't relate to the "issues" mentioned in this video, and honestly it feels more like Jirard is the one who needed to push himself further in this game than the game needing that push, it just sometimes seems he's very stuck in his ways and refusing to change his playstyle and approach even if the game calls for it. Refusing to use certain game mechanics, getting hung up on parts when you're underleveled and repeatedly dying instead of just moving on and returning later, having the same approach to every style when they need to be handled differently, mix this in with a whole ton of collectibles and someone who needs to hurry through completing everything in a game so they can move on to the next and you obviously aren't gonna have a good time. I love Jirard and always have so I don't mean to lash out or anything, just saying this game seems like it's a bad fit for him, and that it's overall more on him than the game itself.
i agree entirely for everything you mentioned. i watched all the star wars movie and they're good but i've never been a big fan of them i just like them in general and this game definitely is the amount of fun you expect to have and more because their is so much to offer in it. i honestly enjoyed Fallen Order and Survivor more than the actual movies so thats saying something forsure.
Gotta say i disagree with about everything you said in this video lol. still a good review video. Combat is massively improved. the crossguard gave such a cool change and is by far the safest stance when it comes to blocking/parry. Story is on point and hasn't dropped the ball one bit for me. Being able to find all sorts of cool collectible around the exploration is far more important to me rather than health up only. a shitton of easter eggs in this game, however noticing them depends how much you care i suppose. my only problem has been the abysmal performance on pc, i've struggled with fights and the dropping to single digits in fps has not been fun. besides that this game is perfect, everything i could wish for and more from a sequel. I do think your criticism is valid tho, to each their own.
Yeah, I don't know man. This game does a lot to make life easier for completionists, listing progress on every little thing, even making connections to related topics on the databak (if you wanna complete the reading aspects of it), and giving the player late game abilities that show everything on the map, and they've done a hell of a job with it Should we really take that and turn it into a negative just because they didn't go a step further and put a specific reward at the end of it? Would you rather have the devs not even bother with completion progress if theres not gonna be a "reward"?
This video made me discover that Jirard doesn't always play on the hardest difficulty like he claims. He said he did Grandmaster for this playthrough and some of it absolutely is, but some of it absolutely isn't as well. There's a super small visual indicator on the HUD that tells you what difficulty you're on at all times and not all of this gameplay footage was at Grandmaster. For example that footage with the Caij fight at 26:30 is not on Grandmaster. Down in the bottom left corner there's the little graphic showing which stances he has equipped and how many stims he has, but this also tells you the current difficulty; there's a little dot in a corner of that graphic and depending on which corner the dot is located tells you which difficulty the game is on and Grandmaster is the only difficulty that displays 2 dots in opposite corners yet this gameplay only has 1 dot, which means it's not Grandmaster difficulty. Also, that footage of his fight against the 2 Oggdo Bogdo's was not on Grandmaster either. I'm guessing he found out at some point that there was no completion reward for beating it on Grandmaster and decided it wasn't worth it, but he should have told his audience instead of lying to them, deception isn't cool no matter how small you may think the lie is. There is the possibility that this particular footage could be from a new game+ mode that he played not on the hardest difficulty but there was nothing to indicate that was the case, like he wasn't using new game+ light saber colors in that footage or anything; also when he did show his new game+ footage he had it on an even easier difficulty which indicates to me that the footage I'm referring to was not his new game+ footage.
For me this game is a complete it. I’ve loved every second in the world, the story was gripping and the twist was great, and the crew of the Mantis are some of my favorite characters in all of SW now
@@illbeback111 I use both, once I unlocked the crowd control multi blaster hit and the perk for taking a blaster hit its very helpful with clearing stuff out and stunning for a massive cross guard hit. Super satisfying to get a good combo to just switch to cross guard and obliterate them.
Kind of proud of myself for completing the game before this video was uploaded. Also, Finish It should be the proper rating, IMO. You don't need to find absolutely everything in the game, it is a bit tedious, but finishing the story at least is worth it.
Cross guard is strong if you use it to punish posture breaks. It’s strong but not my favorite style to play. Blaster stance with ricochet is phenomenal and several perks enhance it to ludicrous power.
I have to disagree on the “needing something for completion” thing. The reward is that it’s done. I’d be more pissed if I got some really cool cosmetic AFTER I’ve done everything there is to do in the game. Kind of a “Great! Thanks! I’m never going to is this.” moment.
@@JBrandonMercer123 I'm currently trying to clear out Jedha and the levels funnel you so if you miss a jump for a collectible, you have to go really far out of your way to go back to that spot, and that's often due to sliding sand and large jumps where you need a mount. If Cal could maneuver back and forth without the need for mounts at the end, it would make getting all the treasure easier and more fun.
@@kinoko5566 I can understand that frustration. But you do need to remember they are going for a metroidvania approach to level design. If they give Cal too much mobility; then it pretty much trivializes any play forming challenge. Then you would have people complaining that the level design isn’t complex enough. I’ve learned over the years there is no pleasing everyone. IGN’s infamous “too much water” was probably the turning point for me. 😂
@@JBrandonMercer123that’s not at all what he said. He said the mounts weren’t very fleshed out, and at that point, why not just make it cal’s force abilities. He used the term “slingshot” but we could have had big force jumps unlocked late in the game or something to that effect so that going back to complete things out of order wasn’t so confusing or frustrating
This was one of the few games where I actually went deep into NG+. I'm honestly surprised we're at such odds on whether or not even even finish it a *single* time.
Honestly I'm amazed he was this off about it. Same, I've been enjoying the hell out of the purity perk feeling like I'm actually a one shot wonder like a lightsaber is supposed to be.
Agreed this guy is just reaching for complaints this vid wasnt his best one. Bad take but eh everyone has one every now and then and everyone is different but i also couldnt disagree more
Every now and then I very strongly disagree with my favorite reviewers, this is one of those times. I thought this game was better in every way. I loved the story think it’s one of the best in Star Wars. No hate to our wonderful completionist, just sharing my love for the game.
FWIW, the crossguard stance doesn't break Star Wars canon at all. Within the canon, it's considered an "ancient" lightsaber style and has recently been depicted in the new High Republic multimedia project.
I do think it's interesting you mentioned God of War when it came to upgrades and abilities because you 100 percent had to relearn most things from the first game and they didn't even give a reason for it
@@minimann15I know they gave a reason but still feels like recycling the same content over. Survivor did not do this, it took everything you learned from the first game and gave it back to you. Cal feels experienced the second you take control of him and the game further expands on his skills. It feels real. Unlike some reason why you lost all your abilities again.
24:26 this is because they did a way better job on making the parkour look natural in its environment. Fallen order just had random ass slides and walls all over the place. In this game there’s mountains, rocks, cliffs, vines and branches. Fallen order was just that same metal fence on the wall
and the game doesn't use the yellow paint that majority of games do. It still uses certain design things to guide you but they are much more subtle and way more natural looking... the only downside being that a lot of players can easily miss it.
People nut when a game is super hard if it’s a souls game but if another game had fights where you have to bash your head against a wall, it’s suddenly bad
@The Second Sons The performance issues and bugs are unfortunate but that does not at all take away from what a massive improvement the core game is on every level compared to Fallen Order. Give it a few more months when the game is comfortably playable and most people will agree that its an incredible sequel
@@karatecrenner420 that’s the mindset of Game Freak blinding. The game was amazing, I loved it but it was only because it improved on the story and some on the 3D world it set itself in Arceus. Couldn’t imagine putting Jedi Survivor below SV at all lmao
There's quite a bit I disagree with here... Personally I would hate it if they made the force something you can use to fly around with... No other game or movie does that do it would pull me out of the whole experience so hard to be super man flying across maps... As it is I prefer (and even enjoy) the mounts and more grounded traversal.
Honestly, I had a blast with the game from beginning to end. I had no performance issues, most likely because I had a super high performance PC built by my best friend.
Crossguard is actually really good once you get the hang of it. My load out (for grandmaster) is crossguard for most fights and dual wield for the occasional fight where I find speed to REALLY matter. I’ve seen a few people say crossguard is too slow, and honestly no it really isn’t. The lack of hit stun on enemies IS a problem, but not a dealbreaker if you’re actually good lol
Yessir cross guard and dual. Cross is so good and it actually has different swings. You can do a sweep, overhead, AOE, powerful light saber throw, and triangle/Y hits like a truck while knocking enemies/bosses down for more free hits
That comment about smashing your head against a tough boss is one I've absolutely related too in the past. But over the year's I've taken to just letting myself experience a challenge that I find rewarding, rather than what the most difficult challenge is Expected of me. I respect player's who Can do that. But I am Not one of them, nor will I ever be. Which is why I respect games like RE4 Remake and Elden Ring so much. Yeah I used A magic ranged class with a shield. Guess what? Still died several times. Yeah I used the Chicken Hat to get S+. Guess what? Still died several times. More flexibility is always a plus in games like these. And if you want to play the game on the lowest difficulty to have more Fun, I say go for it. and I respect more games that say beating the Hardest Difficulty shouldn't be a requirement when the games themselves are hard enough.
For the third game, I would love to see Cal dabble in some darker abilities to solidify him as a grey Jedi. For example, what if you took the Confusion ability and turned it into a full on mind control mode, where in combat it acts the same as it does now but out in the world you can take full control of a storm trooper to access places you couldn’t before. Sure it would take time to make NPCs playable but in my opinion it would add so much more depth
Great review, but it still kinda weirds me out to not hear the completionist rating at the end. It just feels like it should be there to cap off the video. I also enjoyed hearing/seeing the stats at the end too.
I’m just really glad I played on Jedi Master difficulty from the start. Grand master sounds like it goes from 0-100 really fast and is just more pain than satisfying fun.
Honestly, this is shaping up to be one of the greatest Star Wars stories ever told. In that regard, I would have to disagree with you on your notes for the plot. Like, we can all appreciate the original source material, and it’s definitely true that a lot of Star Wars content is coming out right now, but seeing Cal slowly slip further and further into new griefs even as he grows as a person and tries to move on from the large wounds from his past is enthralling. It’s not a particularly happy story, but that’s what’s going to make the third entry (and possibly the last in the saga of Cal ) a revelation. Jedi Survivor is a perfect follow up to a tale about learning to trust and love again - in that he’s started to do so, but gets betrayed and loses for it. Little details, like Cal constantly struggling to maintain his focus and keep his mind quiet even while he honed his talents and delves further and further into rage-fueled emotions to continue surviving, drive home this constant and subtle shift in him from the light to the dark. Where we leave him off, he’s succumbed to the dark side, and had his enemy defeated… but killed him, in the end. Right in front of his own daughter, even. Right now, she seems understanding, but the final shot where we see the discarded lightsaber on the ground after Cal decides to look after the traitor’s daughter is… just, perfect. It’s definitely the beginning of the end for his story, make no doubt about that. Who could tell what the next game will be like? That all being said, I suspect there will be a lot of grief and anger, and a lot of conflict. Whatever happens, it will be good.
The crossguard stance is so good, but it definitely takes some practice to use effectively. It is the most difficult stance, but once you learn the timing it's so satisfying to use.
Whines and cries about the collectibles in this game being cosmetic but has no problem with the collectible flies that did absolutely nothing in the battletoads reboot
After sitting with this review for a day, I’m definitely feeling like you undersold how much incentive you have to complete this game. There are optional free perks you get that completely redesign enemy encounters for the new game plus run. You also get more skills, to start, which can change how you interact with the early game sections immensely. I guess if you don’t like the game, you don’t like it and that’s fine, but as a reviewer I wish you went more in depth about what the game did right - because there was a lot done well.
Loved this game and I enjoyed this video. Side note: I found confusion very OP in combat, made attacking groups of enemies waaaaay easier for me, especially when there was the damage boost and ability to confuse some of the strongest enemies
Lol i wld take the high ground at times and confuse em till they killed each other off. Hell yeah i cheesed it lol the computer would cheat and spam me so i felt no guilt lol
Personally, this game fixed nearly every issue I had with the original. But I'm not a completionist, so I can understand how that can lower someone's opinion of the game.
Honestly everything was fixed and improved from the original. Not having fast travel/ force dash was a major headache when trying to 100% the game. In survivor all the data banks and echos arnt even required for a trophy and they just flat out tell you where everything is
Honestly dumbfounded by this video. I am not a completionist by any means, and even after completely 100%ing this game, I still keep coming back to it even if just to run around.
I had more fun with it that the first game and I loved the first game, so if the third game is able to legitimately summon BOTW style design rather than dipping their toes in it. It’s a great Star Wars story, and my only hope is that we keep all the upgrades in the third game and they make all the skill point upgrades in the third game related to unlocking powerful game changing abilities, like Jedi Academy but split across three games. I appreciated them giving us a lot of the upgrades and abilities unlocked right off the bat, but then they took some of the force abilities away and made us unlock them again. I would rather in the third game we feel as though Cal is going from Knight to Master, similar to how it felt like we were going from padawan to knight in this game and from learner to padawan in the first game. I really just want us to reach that force unleashed feel again; lots of enemies and a variety of ways to dispatch them. I think all the critiques in this video are valid, although I did enjoy the cross guard saber a lot, as it mostly requires you to figure out and abuse certain enemy weaknesses, then I would use the blaster stance for the same speed availability as single stance and the option for range.
About to complete it after 60 hrs. Definitely just recommend doing the story line if you’re not into 100%. Game crashed like 7 times on me yesterday though and corrupted my save file
Was on the fence about this one after watching lots of mixed reviews and hearing all the performance issues the game has been having, but everyone in the comments seems to absolutely love it. Definitely want to pick this up when they sort out the bugs and frame rate issues.
This game absolutely deserves a finish it. The ending was incredible and I can't wait for more. I get where you're coming from but I don't think you looked at this as a continuous story and more as a wall to climb. The gameplay itself was fun but I do admit it felt lacking.... The plot to me was more than strong enough to carry it and the exploration gave me a fantastic break from the story beats. Also for those wondering about performance my experience on Ps5 was close to flawless. As of may 10th
Weird complaints. They have to keep Cal's force powers grounded to a degree. People lost their minds (and rightfully so) when Rey just made up force heal. Imagine if Cal was using force fly to get everywhere. Also, why do you expect anything for completion? I also 100%'d the game on Grandmaster and expected nothing but what I got - a platinum trophy and the ability to play NG+ without worrying about collectibles at all. Playing games is about having fun (not getting rewards) and I had a lot of that. Also, you get rewarded by doing this for a living. Cheer up!
Currently Caji is no longer giving me bounties even tho I have finished the story and have only beaten 8. I have been soft locked out of 100% for 12 days.
I loved star wars Jedi fallen order I am still on my first playthrough of survivor on my ps5. I haven't beat the story yet I'm 60 percent so far I'm loving the game
Wow I don't know what to say, I mean good video that touches on a lot of points that I bring up but my biggest disconnect is the fact that you said the final act was lackluster. I can't disagree more. To keep it non- spoiler I won't say anything about it but I was extremely heartbroken after everything that happens on Jedha and with the next areas I was just on board with Cal and his questioning of the situation. I feel that a lot of the review comes from a place of either burnout or playing on grandmaster (which is SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult than Master) just Playing it would be doing a disservice to yourself, Finishing this game is almost a must.
I don’t think he said the final act was lacklustre, he said the story overall wasn’t as gripping or compelling. Granted, he was talking about the last part, so it’s a fair assumption, but I know my experience was that the story was bland and boring, focusing on random new characters that I didn’t care about, a goal that I didn’t feel amped to complete and the enormous fetch quest of the main missions. But, I did enjoy the final missions as they did relate more to cal.
Great video, Jirard. Sounds like Grand Master is a real headache, I'll be sure to stay away from that. I'm curious, why exactly is this a "Play It" and not "Finish It"? I get that there's nothing in the way of rewards, but wouldn't people at least want to finish the story, or is it really not that great? Anyway, enjoyed the vid and looking forward to the next one!
I think his need for a Completionist reward blinded him. The story is great, though it starts slow but gets really good by the 3rd act, which is basically the complete opposite of what he said.
If this is your idea of “amazing” you have incredibly low standards. I enjoyed both these games, but they both are severely unpolished, both in performance and gameplay.
@@JDLaney-zk4wb performance absolutely, gameplay? Not perfect (They only just allowed human dismemberment) but in terms of the FEEL I LOVE it, I've played Fallen Order multiple times and enjoyed it everytime. Could it be better? Sure but don't undersell how good it feels to parry blaster bolts back at the enemy and slice them to pieces (I played with mods that helped the experience but still)
As someone who did beat Jedi Survivor, I also did like this game. But also had some major problems with it. I don't care very much about cosmetics so those being the major collectibles really did annoy me. Plus I also did have some times where I got lost and it was because the environment wasn't very clear in where I needed to do. Sometimes made even more annoying as the place I needed to go didn't let me jump there the first time I tried.
To be fair, this isn't a game that is designed to be too complex in a statistical customization sorta way. I love the cosmetics, but I understand and agree in a way. I think the rewards should feel more appropriate for certain challenges. Like the clearly super difficult or hard to find challenges or hidden areas should have multiple rewards, more than one skill point or a strong perk. The perk system I think is fantastic and I think it could be expanded even more and would've allowed for you to feel more rewarded from certain challenges. Even cosmetically, imagine if instead of just an outfit, a more difficult challenge could reward a flashier upgrade to outfits that you could apply to all of them like a "pristine condition" option that makes your outfits look brand new or something along those lines.
Dude Kata has so much potential moving forward I can’t wait for the third game I’ve got a hunch she’ll be trained as a “Jedi” under Cal but I got an inkling that Merrin would teach her tricks too.. Imagine Kata being an insane hybrid character of Jedi and Nightsister with a newer idealogy from Cal’s light side beliefs allowing him to have connections My hope is the next game we play as Cal where we have Kata as an apprentice and a tremendous emotional baggage of killing her Dad, where Kata as an angsty teen goes back and forth on being irrational as a Jedi nightsister hybrid, and the trilogy concludes where Cal (very much at the level of a Jedi master now) has to sacrifice himself to save Kata, forever imprinting on her the importance of self sacrifice, helping her to understand the difficult decisions that lead up to her father’s murder and setting her up beautifully to be her own stand alone protagonist in a future trilogy I don’t have much to base that off of aside from some hopes and dreams and a little bit of dialogue post campaign. Please though. Please. Kata’s potential to be a very complex Jedi Nightsister hybrid is so insanely cool to think about 🫣
Jirard does know that the vast majority of players don’t even finish games they play much less 100% complete them so why would devs put so much stuff behind completion bonuses?
It really pisses me off that he doesn’t realize that. Especially in botw when he started complaining about the korok seeds and the golden poop reward. It was literally a troll message telling you to go outside and touch grass lol
@@562.anthony2 I used to really enjoy his reviews but any big release follows the same format of him complaining how tedious the completion process is and there is no completion reward, because apparently a platinum trophy isn’t enough.
He literally mentioned this during the review. He understands that very point, but he can still be disappointed about it as a completionist himself. But he also points out how the game itself gives you a literal tab that lists completion, so I think it's fair game.
@@frickthefuckoff I also 100% completed the game and I didn't expect some reward because I'm not an idiot. I know that a platinum trophy is about all I'm going to get and that's fine with me. At time of completion, only 0.9% of players had the platinum trophy.
For me the game is a complete it, I enjoyed it so much that I went for the platinum then I enjoyed that so much I went for all the chests, lost treasures and everywhere explored
i think people should definitely finish the story, and play as much of the side quest stuff as you want. I enjoyed my time with it and look forward to the next game.
I will say I partially disagree with the opinion on the stances. I do agree we should've been able to switch whenever, but for specifically the Crossguard stance, I found it helped me learn to pace and time my attacks/parry's, it was honestly the reason I beat Rayvis.
_"Enemies have too much health"_ _"I played on the hardest mode"_ Well, there's your problem, right there. The hardest modes are *_always_* stupid and feel bad to play.
Jirard I too was on grand master and let me tell you when I beat the rancor and Ravis just cause of the sheer amount of time and tries they took I jumped out of my chair and beat my chest like a Neanderthal
23:55 I agree with this idea so much, in the game “Supraland” you get extra abilities that allow you to be extra mobile after beating the main game so you can get the 100% would’ve made it so much more enjoyable than the navigation mechanics prior
While I agree with most points of the video and understand its his opinion, saying you wouldn't recommend FINISHING a game just seems a bit more negative than the game deserves but maybe I'm just interpreting that wrong. How I'm seeing it is that "Yeah play the game it's pretty cool but it's not worth finishing" makes it sound like the game flopped to the point where finishing it isn't worth doing, I get that the story was somewhat lacking but doesn't sound like a "don't bother finishing" type statement
This game was for sure a step up from fallen order and even improved in both gameplay, scale, story, and customization. From a sequel standpoint it improved on more and made it feel like a different game compared to that of God of War Ragnorak which just felt like the same game as its predecessor.
Bravo sir! You moved your rating to the start of the video. I noticed this change in format earlier. I have to be honest, seeing that you rated this one as "Play It", now I HAVE TO WATCH THE WHOLE EPISODE!
I am enjoying Jedi Survivor overall. Gameplay is fun, the worlds are fascinating to explore, missions are fun. My only complaints are that I get lost a lot and there’s is too much platforming for my taste.
Plays on the hardest difficulty in a game chock full of collectibles, gets burnt out, complains about an "unearned 3rd act" i know things are subjective but man Jirard i couldn't disagree with you more. Deserves a finish it. My ONE knock on the game is it seems mechanical improvements were prioritized over new locations, and while not as bombastic as the first one, I much prefer the intimate, focused personal narrative in this over the first. Almost like the difference in scope between TFA and TLJ
1:37 When the local Fauna start using dropkicks you know you're in for a bad time. I can read it's mind now , " You like pushing people off of cliffs huh, I got something for you".
I mean the part of what affected the score was the disconnect he felt between himself and Star Wars past the movies, so it's kind of fitting in a way 🤔
What do you mean? Jedi Survivor literally took everything good about Fallen Order and not only made it better but added so much. It's really telling why most devs don't try anymore because even when they do people aren't fucking appreciative. This is why we deserve the industry we have
Im sorry what? This game is phenomenal! It builds on what worked, and made something amazing! Beat it once and immediatly played through again on NG+ ...can't say that about some other games...
I think with all the improvements this game has over Fallen Order that it's unfair for Jirard to say the game isn't worth finishing, still a good vid though
Love the Cal and merrin romance It makes it interesting because they come from different factions that really aren’t big into the whole romance thing so there love is sort of unique. Plus I liked how she can sort of sense when cal is stressed or slipping into the darkness, kinda like a force bond. And cal putting the Jedi order in the past and lives his own life, makes me think we might be this verson of the legend Luke skywalker. And really this game give me empire strikes back feels since the way the game ended with a heavy cost victory, so the next game could be like ROTJ in terms of story
From someone who played it hours after it came out on Xbox Series X, I did not run into as many graphical issues until my Xbox started to overheat, but that was more from limited airflow due to where I have to have my Xbox set up. But idk if that was Jedi Survivor thought because I still run into those issue on Red Dead Redemption 2, which does the same thing. I played the game on Jedi Master difficulty and did the same smash my head into a wall until I beat the boss approach and still really enjoyed it. The game was much more satisfying to me in playing that way because I never thought I was gonna miss something because I avoided it until the post game. I do get why you said "Play It," but to me, and how I feel about star wars, I would definitely say "Finish It" even if the ending was kinda subpar. BTW Love your videos and appreciate the time you take to make your content in the way you do so keep it up!!
I think the one thing that would be nice is to see the very number of how many games he's completed so we can keep track of that. Especially seeing that number at the beginning of the video or in the intro
I think it’s a near perfect game but I also have a bias for starwars. I think all of what you said was completely valid though. I get it. Great video everyone!!
The one thing id like to see in the next game to build off the stances is a Ghost of Tsushima style where you have access to all of the stances at all times and the different styles are more effective against certain enemies. That was such a fun and engaging part of Ghost and this game and its sequels would benefit from it i think.
Jirard, I gotta be honest with you, I never "complete" games. I'd finish about 90% rate of completion tops for games I love and move on.... there's a lot that the medium offers, and don't have the energy to complete any of it. So even when you go "complete it" at some games, I never do that. This applied to JS as well, however, I don't think I will go for Koboh and Jedha 100% completion. It doesn't have 900 Korok seeds, I'm good lol. And you got difficulty options, so no Elden Ring variety of worries. It's really fun, it's great SW, it a love letter to old action adventure platformer games like TP, or PoP... Solid game, I actually feel sorry for those having serious performance issues. I didn't have any of the stuff shown of those videos, just minor frame drops every now and then. Crashed twice (Only in the open world), but didn't lose major save data. I'm also playing it on a tin can series S and I am very satisfied lol easy 9/10, could have been like a 9.8 had they just optimized the crap out of it.
I freaking loved this incredible game. Just finished it earlier today and was pretty sad it was over. Gorgeous game with amazing gameplay and one of the better stories in gaming. On PS5 had a couple technical hiccups but no more than most other games
"could push itself further". Is a weird take against this of all sequels. They went way above and beyond. I thought the 1st game was a mix of ok and jank. The sequel is a genuine goty contender outside of the technical issues.

What I look for mostly in a sequel is improved story & gameplay. And Survivor absolutely delivered here. Still a good vid.
@@BiggieJ4224 why fix with a perfect in the first game? And I haven’t seen anyone asking for them to change anything
It’s just flashy but doesn’t work in its gameplay loop that well for what type of game it is
You mean you think a sequel should be improved?! MIND BLOWING LOGIC……
Agreed 100%
Beating and completing is not the same thing
I'm kinda blown away when I hear people say they've been loving the story in this one. For me the story has been a giant snooze-fest compared to the first game. Oh well.
@@a3-radio Pretty sure thats the point.
Yea cross hits like a truck, especially with the force special move. I used cross and dual sabers
Crossguard in general not only allows you to punish bosses between their attack patterns, but it also lets you force them on the defense more aggressively when chunking their block meter.
Crossguard is excellent. So powerful.
"Pausing during the cutscene" chriiiist why
Wild that this game shipped with that bug lol
@@MrIsaac95 don’t think that’s a bug. Personally that’s a feature I would want simply because I get smooth gameplay & the best visuals for cutscenes
The fact that this game struggles to hit the “bare minimum” frame rate is sad
@@gaberobison680 Still is a better game overall then most hands that comes out. Still getting 9s and 9.5s where’s your game that you developed lol ?
This game does a lot to make life easier for completionists, listing progress on every little thing, even making connections to related topics on the databak (if you wanna complete the reading aspects of it), and giving the player late game abilities that show everything on the map, and they've done a hell of a job with it
Should we really take that and turn it into a negative just because they didn't go a step further and put a specific reward at the end of it? Would you rather have the devs not even bother with completion progress if theres not gonna be a "reward"?
I actually loved this game way more than I thought i would
Big same
Same!
Had no right being this good, this entertaining, and just pure unadulterated Star Wars 😊
Me too, I’m not even a Star Wars fan at all but this was just fantastic
I don't get hyped very often but I am for this game. Still replaying fallen order before I play this one.
Why?
I’ve loved every second in the world, the story was gripping and the twist was great, and the crew of the Mantis are some of my favorite characters in all of SW now
Confusion is extremely powerful lol he should’ve used it more
Love the crossguard stance. Just as in Darksouls its more about timing, and seeing the windows to attack and break the enemies poise.
@Payton Mollo hm dont know, meanwhile I have changed to the blaster/blade style. It more versatile and also strong.
Why wouldn't you just finish the story?
@@jameslawrenson1208 yeah the side quests are awesome and really thought out
Yea finishing the first game is worse because you need every echo and shit. They didn’t do that for this game thank god
Cross guard is strong if you use it to punish posture breaks. It’s strong but not my favorite style to play. Blaster stance with ricochet is phenomenal and several perks enhance it to ludicrous power.
Yeah it seems better to use another faster to react stance and then plop out ya big one when inappropriate.
I have to disagree on the “needing something for completion” thing. The reward is that it’s done. I’d be more pissed if I got some really cool cosmetic AFTER I’ve done everything there is to do in the game. Kind of a “Great! Thanks! I’m never going to is this.” moment.
Yep. Lots of weird complaints in this video. Cal wasn't using the force to fly all over the levels so he didn't have as much fun? What?
I'm literally on my 2nd New Game Plus of this game. It's incredible. Can't disagree more with this.

I was much more engaged by the end of the story than the beginning
I do think it's interesting you mentioned God of War when it came to upgrades and abilities because you 100 percent had to relearn most things from the first game and they didn't even give a reason for it
I thought the exact same thing, but thought my memory might have been failing me. Thanks.
the reasoning in GOW: Ragnarok was that fimblewinter degraded their armor and weapons
The game is absolutely more than just fine
@The Second Sons I didn't have any bugs luckily
Yeah, true. It's in my top 10 games of the last few years.
@The Second Sons The performance issues and bugs are unfortunate but that does not at all take away from what a massive improvement the core game is on every level compared to Fallen Order. There's quite a bit I disagree with here... Personally I would hate it if they made the force something you can use to fly around with...
You don't like fishing mini-games?! You're on thin ice Mr. Completionist!
He’s a communist, figures
Great review, but it still kinda weirds me out to not hear the completionist rating at the end. It just feels like it should be there to cap off the video. I also enjoyed hearing/seeing the stats at the end too.
I’m just really glad I played on Jedi Master difficulty from the start. Grand master sounds like it goes from 0-100 really fast and is just more pain than satisfying fun.
Yea, I feel like playing it on highest difficulty and complaining it's hard may be a stupid sht to do...
I love how you can unlock map upgrades to show you all the collectibles
Whines and cries about the collectibles in this game being cosmetic but has no problem with the collectible flies that did absolutely nothing in the battletoads reboot
I swear he has a new intro every time I find one of his videos again
I have been soft locked out of 100% for 12 days.
happened to me today too, so infuriating
Wow it's Scuba Steve! I know it's pretty reaching but that really feels like an Adam Sandler movie reference
Story is miles better than the previous one. Bro was on sumn when he made this video
Yeah. It's a really weird rating. Should be a Finish It. Grandmaster isn't that bad.
I think his need for a Completionist reward blinded him. The story is great, though it starts slow but gets really good by the 3rd act, which is basically the complete opposite of what he said.
@@JBrandonMercer123 isnt that bad? Youre not human! Lol i played on Jedi Knight and got owned
Not every game needs to push the industry forward. It's an amazing sequel to an already amazing game, that's all it needed to be.
very true I agree
If this is your idea of “amazing” you have incredibly low standards. I enjoyed both these games, but they both are severely unpolished, both in performance and gameplay.
@@JDLaney-zk4wb performance absolutely, gameplay? Not perfect (They only just allowed human dismemberment) but in terms of the FEEL I LOVE it, I've played Fallen Order multiple times and enjoyed it everytime.
Could it be better? Sure but don't undersell how good it feels to parry blaster bolts back at the enemy and slice them to pieces (I played with mods that helped the experience but still)
@@davida12345 I actually can't stand the sequel trilogy, and think Kathleen Kennedy might be the worst thing that's happened to Star Wars.
Just finished playing it on PS5 and the glitches might even be worse now. It really took me out of many scenes.
I love how you can find a light mustache just chilling in a box underwater.
Dude Kata has so much potential moving forward I can’t wait for the third game
I’ve got a hunch she’ll be trained as a “Jedi” under Cal but I got an inkling that Merrin would teach her tricks too.. Imagine Kata being an insane hybrid character of Jedi and Nightsister with a newer idealogy from Cal’s light side beliefs allowing him to have connections
My hope is the next game we play as Cal where we have Kata as an apprentice and a tremendous emotional baggage of killing her Dad, where Kata as an angsty teen goes back and forth on being irrational as a Jedi nightsister hybrid, and the trilogy concludes where Cal (very much at the level of a Jedi master now) has to sacrifice himself to save Kata, forever imprinting on her the importance of self sacrifice, helping her to understand the difficult decisions that lead up to her father’s murder and setting her up beautifully to be her own stand alone protagonist in a future trilogy
I don’t have much to base that off of aside from some hopes and dreams and a little bit of dialogue post campaign. Please though. Please. Kata’s potential to be a very complex Jedi Nightsister hybrid is so insanely cool to think about 🫣
Jirard: "Adding a grappling hook to almost any game makes it better"
EA: "You heard the man! *COMING SOON TO NHL 2024..."*
@@frickthefuckoff he gave it a score of play it. Not even finish it.
_"Enemies have too much health"_
_"I played on the hardest mode"_
Well, there's your problem, right there.
Girard not getting the Scuba Steve reference pains me
4:35 I don’t know why I found that jump hilarious you had no second thoughts
crossguard MELTS on grandmaster once you are comfortable with parry timings
There should of been a trophy/achievement for beating the hardest boss in the game…
Rich The Door Technician
Hell I still haven’t been able to play past the stairs on Coruscant without it crashing hope y’all had fun though
I love Jirard, but his takes in this video were horrendous
A lot of “chores” and busy work which I hate in games like this….still good game, 8/10 imo, maybe 8.5
1:37 When the local Fauna start using dropkicks you know you're in for a bad time. I can read it's mind now , " You like pushing people off of cliffs huh, I got something for you".
I love that you got lost at the exact same spots I did. I don’t feel as dumb as I did knowing other people also got confused there. 😂
I played on Master not Grandmaster. I really liked how the game feels there. You feel OP but not invincible.
I don’t fully agree with the conclusion, but I really respect you for giving your honest opinion even when given a review code. 👍
If this video has come out on Thursday, May 4th, the connection would be perfect.
Love the Cal and merrin romance
It makes it interesting because they come from different factions that really aren’t big into the whole romance thing so there love is sort of unique.
Star Wars Jedi Survivor is so good, loved Fallen Order, Survivor is even better, absolutely stunning on PS5 😊
I think the one thing that would be nice is to see the very number of how many games he's completed so we can keep track of that. Especially seeing that number at the beginning of the video or in the intro
Really like the format of the intro for this review. Great video :)
OKAY, I totally got lost from time to time and thought I was just getting old or stupid. Glad I'm not the only one.
Don't know if it's where I'm a star wars fantic or my last platinum was jump force, but I'm loving the game
17:50 The KOTOR reboot was put on "indefinite pause" so that one can't have contributed much to the SW fatigue.
