Just looking at the map isn't enough, you need to think about their possible routes. If an enemy pops up "out of nowhere", that's because there's a gaping hole in your defense that you're not being aware enough of. Like for example, you're defending a site while the attackers are hitting it, everyone rotates over, but then the attacker lurks through mid and hits you guys from behind. Maps are designed such that there's always a way to prevent someone from catching you unawares, you just need to take the right positions.
Great video I think it’s worth mentioning when to be on minimap vs when not to. Some players tunnel vision their mini map just as some their crosshairs. Good rule of thumb is first contact should be on crosshair but anyone else who is going to trade or play off it should be on minimap. Also make sure you’re in a safe position before checking your map if you are peaking an angle stay on your crosshair till you disengage the angle.
You’re absolutely right, I kinda missed out a lot of stuff since this is my first youtube explainer kinda video (I’ve only done montages up to this point) Thanks for the comment though, definitely agree on your point about making sure that you’re in a safe position before looking at the minimap!

in the jett clip. Astra has the ult up and jett seeks safety behind it because he knows kj is short, when you dismiss it would be much easier to dismiss behind the ult and stay long with jett, play time as they would have to plant, you also still have kayo main that no one know anything about.
also you can see in the left that you dont even give him a voice comm saying that raze is hell, all you give is the info on the minimap, wich jett is prob not looking at when kj's close
The point of this video is to show that aim isn't everything, but if have time and serious about the game, aim is one of the most important skill, people overrate aim or underrate aim a lot. That's why we see so many "all aim no brain or all brain no aim", but in the end grinding kovaaks or aim lab the right way pays off. And its shooter game, if you create advantage for yourself but you dont hit your shots you still die.
It's both their fault: jett didn`t peak while having info and reyna distracting raze as she didn`t go to safety after dismiss is a hard flip to stay open.

Man really good video, another tip is the contrary of the mini map one, i sometimes find myself looking too much at the mini mal and die because im not focused on my immediate situation and/or crosshair, maybe that could be fixed with a more comunicative team, but what could i do from my end apart from waiting for good teammates?
Well the most effective way to play valorant is ofc with your own friends. If you're playing solo, always expect a rough journey and honestly the most you can do is to keep giving your team coms and info even if they dont give you back (It hurts but hey, we did our part).
You are doing good. Just have awareness of when you are potentially first contact. It's hard to judge when your teammates have left you because you can't see them while having decent crosshair placement. By first contact I mean when you will see the enemies before your teammates. So it's more of a awareness thing then. Focus on all sounds so you know where your teammates are. If they shift walk then don't walk ahead of them in any case. And you now don't need to look at the map unless you can see your teammates in front of you.
I used to have the same problem and I will tell you now the teamates never get better lol. How I fixed it is I payed attention to where I was am I in a safe spot to check my mini map or am I in an on angle and need to focus on crosshair. Disengage to check minimap then back to crosshair and on angle repeat. You will get quicker at understanding your situation as you go. Also minimap trading is really important so if you aren’t taking first contact you should be looking at minimap. If you are however going to be the first one to take contact gotta be on crosshair.
As a Yoru player, I agree with looking at the mini map. Before I tp to a site, I always look at the mini map where enemies are, to know which direction to face after flashing. The clone in the mini map is also very helpful, because it gives me info where the clone was shot at. When an ally dies, I look at the mini map to see where the enemy was last seen. Playing Yoru for too long gave me the habit of looking at the mini map a lot. Overall, skills and utils are really helpful. But if you're in Iron, Bronze or Silver, aim really matters. It's in Gold and upper ranks that skills also matters.
I unironically do all these things (League background), the game is still an fps where skill comes out on top , some more information or tactics won't hurt but it won't make you "instantly rank up"
3:10 that feels like lack of communication in situation where everyone's on the site checking different corners and nothing is being said in voice. Imo in that situation you can only blame yourself for being voiceless and saying nothing when you should, no one is going to read your mind. You can't say I did 'perfect dismiss' and no one followed me, you also could've dismissed into safety behind the box, while Jett was probably going in and out through Astra's wall, hearing nothing at that exact moment when you needed someone to 'peek together'. People may say that you don't need to talk even at high immortal but that's just sad and makes the game experience not enjoyable at all. if no one is speaking/giving info it just feels like a troll team who queued to lose.
The unfortunate reality for me is that I really am the opposite. My aim is quite below average-but I utilize the mini map, comms, util, etc pretty well. It's carried me to plat but I'm starting to feel the struggle when I lose out on fights where I really should not be losing.
Also dont false check corners and move your mouse as if anything could happen at every moment. Peak with good angles and distance from walls, crosshair placement and awareness
The thing is i don’t even win with unfair advantage, even though I try to take advantage of everything you mentioned whenever I get the chance. I lose at kissing distance even tho i have a shotgun, I flash and cant kill or get killed while ennemy is flashed, i try to trade my teammate but get one tapped or killed from another place or it’s somehow untradable, ennemy break my trips and gang on me, or just up kill me while i try to kill the tripped guy, or i end up in retake situation and get one tap trying to clear angle and just can’t retake coz i am clearing too slow. When i am holding site against ennemy retake i feel like i am just waiting to be killed really, idk where to look at and get jumped eventually. Well I am currently gold 2 somehow but i really feel like the shittiest player in every game even when i am top fragging its just feel like bunch of round in a row where i get one tapped and bunch of random kills from my shenanigans that somehow worked. Of you just need to work hard on your job to buy good setup for yourself. Trust me... after working your ass out to get it you won't be able to see the difference.
4:09 ain't no way u took sinatraa as an example of players with below average aim💀i mean his hs% is too low for a radiant but his raw aim and crosshair placement have never been bad. His raw aim is transfered from Overwatch
I wasn’t trying to criticise sinatraa there; in fact I’m actually a huge fan of his! The point I was trying to make is that his superior game sense and utility usage take center stage, unlike other players who dominate with raw mechanical aim.
I understood that valo is not about aim when I came back after a year and a half, hopped into some deathmatches, polished my aim from rustiness, and then got obliterated from a LOT of angles I forgot existed, in an unranked game... I am not a high rank. At least, I was not in a high rank, since I didn't calibrate yet. So valo is not about aim or brain. It is about experienced plays. You know how ebemy think, you know how enemy moves, you know the timings, you win. You forget and you die
Idk if it's because of the utter agressiveness of CSGO players or the utility in Valorant, but I just find myself taking gunfights at a significant disadvantage compared to CSGO. Maybe I just need to understand the game. I literally have 1 account in valo and Ive been playing since release and Im only level 36 AHAHHAAHAH
You need to give enough tie time for your teammates to react to your calls, and assess the situation, you should’ve used that dismis to get behind cover instead of wide swinging with zero chance of wining the gun fight due to pull out animation and no cover. by the time you dismissed jet only had to sub 2 seconds to react to your call which was probably made after your dismiss since u didnt notice raze until after her ult. Your putting to much pressure on your teammates. If you dismissed behind cover both you and Jett would be alive, have info and have already dealt with raze ult, jett wouldnt have to solo it putting you in better position to win the round.
Jett is also facing the right way you dont need 2 people watching same angles when holding site unless you call for it, you want to clear angles as fast as possible so you need to be able to trust your team to watch your back and be able to handle thing. Unless you plan on swing the same angle together for a trade you can’t expect Jett to do since you didn’t pre plan it you should’ve handled situation with raze yourself or waited.
Now I know this info, how do I actually apply it? In your jett example, if I were jett and I was looking at the mini map, wouldn't that put me in a huge disadvantage if the kj peaked me? (hypothetically if kj is a lot closer) Or is it better for me to look at my crosshair and wait for the callout?
getting caught while looking at the mini map is really low, since absorbing the information that the mini-map gives you only takes about 0.6 seconds to do. but if you're too paranoid to take that chance, it's usually better to get into cover first, look at the minimap, then peek again (all of which happens in at least under a second. and if u were going to die if u peek back out again, it wouldn't matter if u looked at the mini-map.) for me, i have the opposite problem. i get tunnel visioned looking at the mini-map constantly, instead of my own crosshair, so when i see the enemy, my eyes don't take time to concentrate and adjust to the crosshair, and i miss.
In this specific scenario our KAY/O actually knifed short to clear it. Therefore, Jett already knew that no one was going to peek him from short any time soon and he could have watched a different angle instead. Of course it was quite a chaotic site hold and there was a lot going on so I don’t exactly blame him for being lost in the sauce. I was simply trying to make a point about how general map awareness can go a long way :)

Don't look at minimap when holding angles and you now enemy might be close.

its because people intentionally peek you when something happens on the minimap. You get outsmartet, not outlucked.

I keep dying because Ranked is full of smurfs.
Oh and thats also the reason i many games.
36/16 Clove, great.
My main issue with ranked is the omen on my team going afk round 2. what do i do against that
That doesn’t happen all the time. I mean, some were able to go there at the same rank as you and grind.
can i know the font u use on your thumbnails?
No matter how good you are if an iron starts crouch spraying/run n gunning at you theres a low chance u get headshotted at. I said low not zero.
not useful, still getting tapped everytime I peek and when I dont peek 2 shotted
boaster dance made my aim 10x better thx man
and kangkang rap suddenly increases your chances of getting a game winning 4k by over 1000%

probably tryna bait for his teammates but i think dismissingf in the open was kinda wack
Yes, that was what I was trying to do and honestly, it looks kinda silly now that I look at it… maybe I should take my own advice 🤔
(hypothetically if kj is a lot closer) Or is it better for me to look at my crosshair and wait for the callout?
getting caught while looking at the mini map is really low, since absorbing the information that the mini-map gives you only takes about 0.6 seconds to do. but if you're too paranoid to take that chance, it's usually better to get into cover first, look at the minimap, then peek again (all of which happens in at least under a second. and if u were going to die if u peek back out again, it wouldn't matter if u looked at the mini-map.)
for me, i have the opposite problem. i get tunnel visioned looking at the mini-map constantly, instead of my own crosshair, so when i see the enemy, my eyes don't take time to concentrate and adjust to the crosshair, and i miss.
@@nullcmdval ahh I see. thanks
every game is all about your ping, frames per second, and skill.
