    I'm 27 and I wish I had less of an embarrassing reason for being here, but Avatar: The Last Airbender being on Netflix has got me into Chinese philosophy and tai chi. 😅

      Don't be embarrassed. After watching enough of the show, it seems to me that sharing eastern culture/philosophy was its purpose (in addition to entertainment).

    • @nysachan
      @nysachan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      There is nothing embarrassing about this reason.. unless you are saying this to people who label watching cartoons/anime as "for kids and teens only". Then yes, very embarrassing, haha. Now it's time to expand your view and look at what is "embarrassment" from an eastern philosophy aspect.
      Just from the top of my memory, Avatar: Last Airbender explained very well Chakra system so total beginners could grasp main idea of the philosophy. It is a good show ;)

    My cousin passed away this past November 2019 at 77. He had practiced Tai Chi for about 50 years. He was supple enough that he could easily bring his chin down to his knee. Sometimes he'd do a form on the beach; he lived in Marin County. His form was beautiful, each move not really ending but flowing right into the next. Every time I see Tai Chi I think of him.

      Not to be sad, life is death and death is life,, there is not end, we are pure energy. And science already prove energy

      @Frank Chiang Definitely not. I believe that Tai chi practiced correctly has many health benefits and I know that it enriched his life greatly. I only mentioned his age as an incidental thing. He was very youthful but had some health issues we didn't know about that he unfortunately neglected.

      Its because Chen (old frame) and some Yang are the only remaining remnant of what Taijiquan should be out there. Chen looks as it does, because it was devised by an incredibly smart military officer who dedicated time (similar to what Bruce Lee did with Martial Arts and his system) to developing internal mechanical principles with doctors and knowledgeable generals. It is the only existent system to fully understand the original purpose of what is now termed 'taiji'. As the name, 'Taijiquan' is actually not that old at all. Its quite the marketing gimmick unfortunately.

      Water flows to lowly places
      That people reject:
      That is why
      Water is like de Dao.
      Dao is de universal principle of heaven, earth+mankind-
      It is called Taiji.
      Wuji moves and
      Produces Taiji.
      Taiji returns to Wuji
      When de former becomes still.
      All things in de Universe go like that:
      They eventually return to nothingness.
      Nothing comes from nothing is not truth
      Because
      0=-1+1
      Or
      No matter=anti-matter+matter.

      18 form in the Lao jia yi lu style. Old Frame. Believe it or not, her performance is not the best I've seen either. Not meant as an insult and it could easily be that she preferred to make this very calm as it appeared (great if so!); but the Chen family Grandmaster (who is easy enough to look up) better demonstrates the hard force/transition that should be present. It can be quite contrasting and puts some people off of Chen, funnily enough. Yang is far more fluid comparatively. Personally I adore Chen though. It is the hereditary art supported in Beijing (wudang is more of a joke for serious practitioners here) with a steep history. Thats not to say that any form of the art is to be pointlessly mocked - more that people should be very careful when we start talking about lineage from perspective of 'effectiveness'. As only the family lineages meet that criteria currently.

    From my Tai Chi Chuan Master Liu Pai Lin I learnt that the true Tai Chi happens within, with the constant flow of yin & yang. Thus, though the eyes are gazing outwards one's focus is inside. And this is exactly what I saw in this lady's Tai Chi. No effort at all, just the energy flowing. 🙏🙏🙏

      Stay away from other form which jumps up and down or twists your body with lots of fancy nonsense movements. That is designed strictly for stage performance and wishfully to be included in Olympic competition. This one is more like authentic Tai Chi. I can tell because I've been practice Tai Chi for over 30 years. Not many people can move me a bit when I stand still.

    • @Ironfangzu
      @Ironfangzu ปีที่แล้ว

      The form that she's practicing, and the way that she's executing it, leads me to think that she is almost certainly using it as a, as you call it, a meditative solitary performance.. She is striving with each movement to control her breathing, to keep her moments supple, to flow from movement to movement with perfect balance, like water flowing downstream. In Taiji, Although each movement in Taiji has, in theory, a use in combat like any other wushu form, the way she is doing it, she's not practicing self defense. She's perfecting self control.

    Wuming’ performance is both breathtaking and mesmerizing and her skill unquestionably. Though I must add that to fully appreciate Tai Chi one must also be able to observe her stances. To expand on that of course is her connection to earth, twisting of the feet, movement of the knees, hips, shoulders and elbows. All too often one or more of these elements were missing from video instead focusing on hand movements.
    Still Wuming’s mastery shines through brilliantly.
