This is how to update the Sony a7iii's firmware. Many people including myself have been unable to update the a7iii's firmware using a Mac. This video explains how to fix the firmware update for a7iii. I hope that this helps and please share with others too! #a7iii

After hours of trying to fix it, this made it work (OS10.14.2), the Driver program was installed, and like magic, I tried the original steps again and it works great. Big thanks for the help

Figured out my problem - the Sony update page defaults to the firm ware update for the A7R series - which explains why the update is “not available” for the A7iii. I was able to install the 1.01 update after navigating to the correct page. So, your solution did work and downloading the driver first allowed this to happen. Many thanks.
I thought that might be the case. The same thing happened to me. I replied to another posts indicating that as well. Hopefully with macOS Mojave this workaround will no longer be required.

I actually found the driver you mentioned and downloaded it first after restarting my Mac. But, when I then ran the firmware update, I received a message that new Version 1.01 is "not available for your model". But that cannot be right because this is a firmer update for the A7iii and my camera is running only Version 1.00. I must be missing something and will probably need to find a PC to install the new firmware. Thanks for any suggestions with this.
Are you sure that you dowloaded a7iii and not a7riii by mistake? I downloaded the “R” by mistake once.

It worked for me as well after 3 times with a Mac. I tried three different same cables and with the last one it worked luckily. Just try to turn off the camera before uploading and connect the cable.. When the update software asks you to turn on the camera, you can do it.
It’s crazy that Sony doesn’t simply fix the Mac software. Having to perform a workaround to update the camera’s firmware is crazy.
I have Mojave 10.14.3, how I could do it? because it did not work for me... thanks
With the first start of the DriverLoader_1013 you need to unlock the settings by clicking on the lock icon on the bottom left of the general security settings to allow to install that Sony app (unidentified developper app). Then run the DriverLoader_1013 again. After that, you can run the version 1.01 firmware update (SystemSoftwareUpdater).
Instead of allowing the Sony app to be installed from the general security settings you also can run the terminal and execute sudo spctl --master-disable to change Gatekeeper settings. That allows apps downloaded from anywhere. Do not forget to execute sudo spctl --master-enable after the update process.

After firmware 1.01, only UHS-II class memory cards are recognized in slote 1 (which is the one that supports those), UHS-I cards are still working in slot 2. Anyone else who made this experience? I wonder if it is the slot or due to the firmware 1.01 upgrade.

Hi people. Just sharing my experiences with updating my a7RIII software from v1.00 to the newly released v2.00. Tried this on two Macs running Hi Sierra 10.13.5 and couldn't get the Sony System Software Updater to run. Downloaded from Safari OK, and the camera made the USB connection, but the software would not start the install. Switched to a Windows 10 machine and downloaded the Windows 10 version of the software using Firefox. Tried installing and no luck. Then opened Chrome and downloaded the Installer there. That worked. Confirmed v2.00 on the a7RIII. Hope this helps someone. Sony, if you're reading this, please QC your software better for us.

Are the sony lenses supposed to click into place on the sony a73??? mine is brand new and mine will not click on, and it says on certain menu's that my lens is not connected correctly....also, when I turn it on it has a slight jolt to it inside, is this normal?
Mine do make a click sound. My Zeiss lenses do too. Do you have another lens to try?
I tried the other 35mm sony f1.8 and it did NOT click either, I should not have to turn it hard for this right? It seems I would hav to put some muscle into it if I need it to click
and what about when you turn it on, does it slightly jolt a bit?
Very strange. No muscle is required. I’ll try to post a video on my channel showing me taking my lens on and off of the a7iii. I’ve never seen a Sony with a bad mount but it could happen I guess.
Another silly question....you are lining up dot on lens with dot on camera body aren’t you?
Did you put the camera into mass storage mode?
I did when I was troubleshooting before I found this fix. The factory USB setting on mine defaulted to Mass Storage, when I connected it to my Mac. #a7iii

Excellent video - but your live link took me to Amazon, not to the Sony driver you indicate must be downloaded to fix this connection/firmware update problem. Also, it would be useful to recite the exact name of the driver rather than say it is a "driver something". There are several drivers on the A7iii update page so having the new driver name would be useful.

tried all sorts of ways on my mac and failed, dont waste your time go straight to a PC. I did it and first try on PC and it worked!
This worked for Mac but this workaround is still required for the latest macOS firmware update too. It seems that Sony should have addressed this by now :(

I just ran parallels on my work mac and it updated without any issues
My a7rIV did as well with the latest firmware. It seems that Sony may have finally fixed firmware update for Mac.
If this is not working for you, reset your camera to factory default settings, let it reboot, then turn the camera off, take out the battery, then turn the camera's power dial to on with the battery still out and hold the shutter button for 30 seconds, put the battery back in, turn the camera back on, go through the usual setup process and that should allow you to update the camera to 1.01.
This might be the problem for my Fs5 update failing!!!

SONY 7MIII .It's been just months fro buy .. And Suddenly
4 days Ago it's not able to power On.
It's BLINKING RED COLOUR light at bottom ..

I have a Sony a74iii but I have PC and my Computer is not reading my Camera.
Try removing the battery for a few seconds and also remove and the reinsert the SD card. Mine does that sometimes but that prompts the computer to see it again.

Try a different USB cable and bypass a USB switch and go straight to the computer. Also, the camera has both USB-C and microUSB ports. You might want to try the other cable type if one doesn’t work. I also have a more current a7iii firmware update tutorial on my website. I had to “open the package” and perform a special series of steps after the latest macOS released. Message me in my Facebook page if you can’t find the link.
Still not finding my a73 on a pc
Have you tried a different computer and also a different USB cable? How about a microUSB instead of a USB-C cable, since the a73 has both ports? Just a few troubleshooting thoughts. Best of luck!
@@IrixGuy I didnt try different laptop no, but tried both Mini USB and USB C. I also just discover after bying a rode that my mic port isnt working, this is apparently a problem that happen often on the A7III
The fix is use a PC that’s what i did and it worked!
Yeah, this seems to plague macOS High Sierra only.
I feel more confused now. LOL
It’s not an intuitive procedure but it has worked for me for all firmware updates. Sony still has not addressed having to perform this workaround, when updating Sony alpha firmware from a Mac.

Try tinkering with your USB plug/unplug sequence. It’s finicky and may just need some TLC. Good luck!

Which Sony cameras have you used? I’ve used everything from RX to Sony alphas and all are exceptional with a quality lens.
As much as it pains me to say it...just find a PC and avoid ALL this madness smh
It’s a shame that Sony has bot addressed this firmware update for Mac. I had to use it to install the latest firmware too! I’ll do this workaround happily before using a peecee though LOL
