Starting 2012 my wife rides her Spyder limited. Now a 2014. My 2014 wing and her bike hold a lot. So I don't usr the trailer much. A few times a year. Then not full. We can put all helmets, gear and more in when we stop to eat and so on. You will enjoy a trailer when you get one.
We’ve got an ‘08 Goldwing with matching Bushtec trailer. My wife is a published freelance photographer/writer and we like to visit the national parks, especially out west. We also tent camp, take a Coleman propane stove, lantern, sleeping bags, bag chairs, etc. The Bushtec has an ice chest on the tongue for food and drinks. It enables us to stay out longer in more remote places. Whether you prefer a trailer or not, it doesn’t matter. Ride, see the country, and have fun.
Things I say After Watching Memphis Mike video, "There's Nothing Wrong with My Bike! I don't Need a Gold Wing! There's Nothing Wrong with My bike! I Don't Need a Gold Wing!" LOL!!!! Great Packing Job! Great Video!!!!
I traveled for 25 yrs without a trailer, then got a great deal on a used one and have been pulling it on long trips the past 12 or 13 yrs. It's just another thing that once you have, you can't believe you did without it all those yrs. Lolol. Good video Mike ! Ride safe brother
I like the idea of riding without a trailer and we have done it but let me tell you that on a long trip it is nice to throw your helmets and jackets in the trailer when stopping for a bite to eat. Also nice if you pick something up as a keepsake for your trip. I had to smile when you showed you Fuji XE2. I am a retired Professional Photographer and a true Nikon man but my Nikons were too big to take on the bike with me. So now I have a small bag with the XE2, 3 lenses, filters and a few other little things. Fit nicely in one side bag. Enjoy your videos.
David Heaton Yep whst u say is true about trailer. When i do get one i am looking at the Unigo. I love my little Fuji. I have the kit lens, 56mm f/1.2 snd 18mm f/2. The little camera is awesome
Now the XE-3 is coming out. If I could get a Lens that would go 200mm on the Fuji, I would be done with Nikon. I shoot concerts and I have to have the reach.
I had not heard about the XE3 yet. Thanks for the heads up. I do have the Fuji 55-200 and it works really good. I also use the Fuji 10-24. That is an awesome lens
I bought those straps because of your videos. They worked great on our most recent trip. We packed our Electra Glide classic for 2 weeks out and didn't have a trailer. My wife did wash clothes twice on the trip and she didn't mind. Great packing video! Ride Safe
7 days, Four Corners on my old Victory and I over packed with a tail bag. 2200 miles 5 days on my 1600GTL, and I didn't really need a bag other than it was easier to take crap into the hotel.
I did an 8 day, 2,000+ mile trip on my DRZ400 last year from Chicago to all the places you mention in Tennessee and North Carolina. I carried everything...and more than I needed, in one ghetto top box (8 gallon action packer on my rack) and the medium size Wolfman dry duffel. That wolfman duffell is THE best thing ever made, in my opinion....holds a TON of stuff, easy to pack, unpack, and carry, and best of all it's completely waterproof. Waterproof like you could sink it to the bottom of a pool and the stuff stays dry.
This was my packing list from that trip: In waterproof duffel: 1 pair Duluth pants (Brown or Grey 34’s) 1 pair Duluth insulated pants (unless wearing them) 1 pair shorts 4 t-shirts (buy a couple down there) Pair of shoes Small Backpack (see contents listed below) In small backpack: Laptop and charger Phone wall charger Sealskins socks USB Speaker 2 Smartwool socks (wear one) 5 pair underwear Duluth crushproof hat First aid kit from Maxpedition bag (see contents listed below) In first aid kit from Maxpedition bag: Toothpaste Tooth brush Q-tips Shampoo Disposable razors Band aids Polysporin Anti Biotics Nail clippers Insect repellent Sunscreen Adhesive tape Lip balm Eye drops Hand wipes Nitrile gloves Tweezers Comb Floss Foam ear plugs Spare phone battery - charged Deodorant In action packer (top box): Tool Roll - bottom Zip ties - bottom Extra tie downs - bottom Paracord - bottom Spare Oil - standing up, on bottom Chain lube spray - standing up, on bottom Plexus spray for cleaning face shield and windshield - standing up, on bottom Siphon hose Extra 2.5 gallon sized ziplock bags Motorcycle cover/alarm (alarm in small ziplock bag) Thermal shirt & Thermal liner for jacket (in ziplock bag if not wearing) Kryptonite lock/(key on both keyrings) Other cable and lock Rain Pants/Rain jacket - in ziplock bag In tank bag: Spare bank card Spare lock & key for bike/kryptonite Sun glasses/regular glasses Soft cloth for cleaning face shield and windshield Maps/Hotel numbers, etc. Notes for trip Metal pad for sidestand Pen/Pad of paper Tire gauge Baseball hat Registration/Insurance card Headlamp Flashlight/batteries Gloves - both pair if not wearing one Leatherman/bits Waterproof Medicine box USB cables for phone, speaker, and headset Hand cleaner packets
Really, the two biggest limitations were the self-imposed 65mph max speed, and the way that bike got blown around in the wind through the mountains. Otherwise, comfort was NEVER an issue - I had a parabellum windshield and had the seat re-done by Fisher, so the two areas of concern were addressed. Bike did great otherwise...never complained or missed a beat.
I know a creative guy from up on Canadian boarder that pulls a camper trailer behind his Stratoliner. Gotta admit, looks sweet for a camping trip!! He also strapped a Duck Boat on top of the trailer for a trip to a camp-out/rally here in the 'lake country' couple summers ago so he could go fishing!!... got some looks with that set up!!... Peace from MN. DB.
Excellent video for potential Goldwing buyers Mike. This will give them good insight as to how much luggage they can take with them and how much space the Goldwing provides. Well done.
We take 7 to 10 day vacations on the Vision every year and dont have a trailer. Luckily all our clothes fit in the trunk, we each have our own saddle bag which, on the vision are not very big. We have a water proof bag on our trunk rack for our rain gear as well. I pack 2 pair of jeans plus the pair Im wearing and I found that wicking shirts roll up really small so I can take a weeks worth of those along. By the way I stopped at the bike shop Saturday and saw the new Blue/black Gold Wing and I think I found my next bike. That blue and black combo is good looking.
Thanks for the video, nice to see what other people carry. I've had my Goldwing for a month now and I can't wait to take my first trip. I did ride to Oklahoma last Saturday, but I've really been thinking hard about riding to Key West next year. Stay safe have fun.
Thanks for commenting. If it helps one person out, the vid was worth it!!! a trip on bike to key west would be awesome. congratulations on your Wing!!!!!
That's awesome how much you can fit into the bike. We always hit extreme heat so a cooler full of ice and drinks are needed. I carry another case of water and Gatorade's and have riding gear for anything that we may run into. I also carry 2.5 gallons of spare gas as well. Deserts are long and hundreds of mile of nothing. My wife does not pack light. I completely fill up a 26 cubic foot trailer. We had to stop every 30 mile and re wet our vest. 109 degrees sucks. Going north and eat next year.
Man...stopping every 30 miles? How do you guys ever make it anywhere Jim? With those kinds of temps, I would probably have to re-adjust my touring seasons if possible. We do find our selves stopping for hydration pretty regular during hot months of touring and riding. a Cooler would be a nice item to have for sure. Regarding our clothes...with heated gear, we are prepared for a 35 degree morning in the event we wake up to it with our mesh jackets on! thanks for the comments jim.
We even hit 99 in CO. I think we hit the hottest time of year all over. Did cool off high in the Mountains, so that was great. First day was the worst this year, after that was not bad. We stopped in Clovis and was still 109. Woke up in the morning and something blew in, was really windy and like 61 degrees. Much welcomed for sure. Would rather have wind than heat. I cannot get vacation time until around middle of June, just the nature of my work. Love my Goldwing trips for sure.
I went on a cross country trip on my Goldwing last summer. I only brought my trailer because 2/3 of the trailer was turned into a cooler to bring wild pig back from the hunting trip. The other 1/3 had broken down rifle, ammo, blind etc. Saddle bags and truck held all of personal gear.
The wife and I are heading out Thursday for our first overnight trip on our new Wing to ride the 72 mile Lake Tahoe loop. Thanks for the tips MemphisMike I'll use them to help pack the bike.
GREAT MORNING MIKE. Same here i pack light and by the time we leave my wife is packed light (she realizelater). We just installed a tour pack and bags on her bike which helps. Now the big decision... A club brother bought a newer wing that came with a trailer, he offered me his cb and trailer for 1k. These two things i never felt a need for but im on it because its too good to pass by.
Eddie L I currently own 2015 wing and recently purchased a bush tec trailer. Nice and convenient but pricey. Make sure you will put it to use before you make the purchase. Excellent video and tips on packing.
Beautiful bike! I don't lnow what kind ofgps your using, but my Garman has never been lost or could not get a signal. It has never been wrong either. As long as there's power for it, it will get you where you want to go how you want to go. I've done a lot of traveling and it has never, ever let me down ad long ad you keep the maps upgraded, which cist me nothing. Free map upgrades for life. I did have a so called nice TomTom that was a piece if crap. Ride safe dude!
I use the Navigation on the Wing and gps on the phone.I still like a Regional paper map. you are able to see a Large Macro View of the Riding area...something a GPS is too small to do on a tiny screen!!! In a previous vid.....gps put us onto a gravel after 20 miles of riding! I have considered a Garmin tho at some point. Thanks for sharing!
I've purchased 4 in the last two years. I haven't even taken a trip. I buy an inexpensive one, plan on using it, but change my mind and sell it. I'm going to keep this one awhile. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
I ride a Harley road king and I'm like u Mike, pack it light. I was on the road for 7 days and stayed at a hotel in ashville nc that had a washer and dryer machines and that works out great.
it is just nice not to have a lot of CRAP with you....our trips are usually about RIDING too...hell I've thrown away old t shirts on trips to make room before!!!
My wife and I pack lite... I get a side bag she gets a side bag and the trunk is for everything else...tools, maps, hats, chargers etc. the raining gear is on the top of the trunk...no trailer
LOL, I have not seen that much room in any of my saddlebags or trunk 3 months after buying my Goldwing.Good video brother, before my trailer I always used my passenger seat as storage for a bag or 2, never needed a trailer, just wanted one.
Carnell Luckett Sr LoL. My goal is next year to have a Unigo Trailer. I have some 2-3 week Touring ideas and could probably use the additional space, especially if wife goes!
I definitely need my trailer Mike. We camp relatively comfortable, and that would be impossible using only bike storage. A couple night stays at a hotel and I'd leave it at home too.
i cannot see taking a camping set up without a trailer for sure. i have really considered the camping thing myself... my wife not interested at all in that...but i have a few buddies that do and would like to participate with them!
Good storage space there. I dunno if I'd want to pull a trailer, I will say it's nice having the extra space. I think I'd be good with a top bag to store stuff in, along with my jumbo saddle bags for now. Awesome video.
only a few times when traveling have I thought it would be really nice to have...maybe carry a spare helmet as well. Other wise...the Wing definitely provides some space...and you are right...I can still add a larger bag on the rack if needed...but hell...how many clothes/jeans/ do you really need! More space might equate to carrying more crap! LoL
MemphisMike exactly, more space n carry more crap. If you carry less.. n need a short trip to Walmart isn't bad.. I usually just wash T shirts n underwear n hang dry .. good to go. I'll also have a coffee and cooking set up for next year, next is to find a tent.
my wife is a over packer and We have yet to run out a room on the goldwing but we have yet to do more than an overnight trip and we don't do the cold gear because we don't ride in cold weather, my bones are too creeky, ours is the 1200 aspencade and I don't know if you have more room or less seems about the same. thinking about a trike, because of my motocross knees..but the gw is a dang great motorcycle. there is another option for those that feel a need and that is one of those trailer hitch carriers.
I've used Sedici Heated gear from Cycle Gear with great success in places like a very wet, chilly British Columbia. It absolutely made the ride comfortable. They pack very small, and are comfortable to wear as well.
I am a solo rider and I have room for everything , yes a trailer would be nice even for this solo rider but I have plenty of room I just have to be careful of what I buy along the way, I have a nelson riggs bag that goes where passenger would sit, it holds enough cloths for a good week
+MemphisMike Hey guys... awesome test ride today... WOW.. I was on a Charcoal, '05' 1800... Loved it!!!... and ya... wanted to sign on the dotted line real bad. But my ole XS Yamaha 850 will have to keep us happy till I finish my college run & start earning some full time spending cash;)... did get some pics of my dream bike, but not sure how to get them on the comments. It was all you said it would be!! Be good...DB.
that is awesome DB..thanks for sharing...unfortunately can't share photos in comments on youtube. i road my 2002 Shadow up until 2014...yoiur day will come my man and it will be worth the wait..until then..keep making memories on the Yamaha!!!
Goldwings are a piece of motorcycle art. The more i watch bike trip videos, the more i want one but i suppose it's not an optimal choice for a beginner, haha.
@@MemphisMike901 I'm sure i'd get the hang of it but i see the price as the biggest problem. Maybe i'll start out with a Rebel 500 or a retro bike like the CBs.
Nice video, Mike! It was interesting to see what you take with you. Packing light but essential is a skill not many people have; it was refreshing to see that here. Being that I have a small bike, I don't have the luxury or ease of packing whatever I want. In a way, that's good because it forces me to pack only the essentials. People kept telling me I was an idiot for traveling long distance on the Sportster this year to the meet up. I just laughed. Take care and ride safe, my friend!
Hey Buddy...in 2004 me and the wife did roughly over 3K miles from Memphis to Chesapeake Bay area and back....2-UP...On the SHADOW...Talk about creativity in packing....it CAN be done. and you are correct...it forces you to focus on essentials!
That's what I like to hear!!! You CAN tour on any bike! The reaction I got from people when I returned home from my trip was really funny. "Oh my GOD, you didn't have ________________"! "You mean you DIDN'T take your entire house with you?! But HOW!?". LOL!
GOOD Comment !! Keep to the basics ... Decent Rain gear, a few changes of clothing, jacket, toiletries, and change of footwear is always a smart move !! :) :) :)
Who needs a trailer, I do. I take two to three week's each fall to ride, putting 3000 - 5000 miles on the bike. The funds are not in the cards for 30 days of motels. So camping most of the time getting to old (make that older) to get up from the ground. So I got a Kimp Kamp pop up camping trailer with 12 volt fridge. So nice to have a full size bed and stand up out of it. Speaking of $ you most have more than I do, my camera is under 500 BUT I keep it in a case. Just a thought for a 1200 dollars one.I too have to pack with care even with the exter room. Set up run is this coming weekend North Rim of the Grand Canyon, see what I should add and what I SHOULD take OUT. Then off on long trip Goldwing Doc here I come.
Verne Brown Sounds Like an Epic Journey!! Regarding the camera and no case....im also a semi pro photog. These things are tools to me and I like to be able to grab them easily when I want to. Heck ive kept it in the cup holder before and the cubby hole on passenger area!! Safe traveling sir! And thanks for commenting!
The worst shot is the one you can't get knowing it would be great. So keep that camera handy. I mist some trying to find a place to stop and not getting run over. Looking forward to trip, head out on the 10th for it. Ride safe and often. PS North Rim Was great.
I've been enjoying your videos....beautiful bike by the way! I purchased my 18' Goldwing DCT Tour (14,1540 so far) just over a year ago and am loving it. As you know, the storage on mine is considerably less, but for a one up 5200 mile trip last summer, it was fine. If I get my better half to travel with me, an additional back on the tour pack rack should do the trick. I wanted to ask where that lodging was. Looks very nice an may have to check that out. Happy Riding!
We stayed in the small cabins, but next time stayed in the lodge. here is the video and information about that lodging th-cam.com/video/x4spQDxJggQ/w-d-xo.html thank you for your support of the channel.
Ran into a guy in Arkansas pulling camper trailer will a full size bed behind his Vulcan. When I read the title I thought you meant a trailer to haul the bike on...see plenty of guys doing that.
MemphisMike I was thinking the same thing. I think if you pack light for 1 person you could probably have enough space but with 2 up it’s going to be tight. I hope Honda will offer a larger set of bags if not now in the near future.
Happy New Year MM! I’ve been looking for the very carpet liners you have - the one’s with the American Flags! Are they still being sold? I have not been able to find a set. I have a 2007 GW. THANKS Mike!
GREAT video MM :) :) You CAN'T beat a wing for PLENTY of secured baggage !!!! I have a question for ya on the Bike cover you use ... Is YOUR Bike cover just a solid dark color, or do you have one of those with "reflective color or strips on it .... ??? (Reason WHY I ask is because someone recently brought it up in conversation ... after HIS bike was backed over by someone staying at the same hotel ... His cover was a solid charcoal color .... ) What is YOUR opinion on this subject, MM ...?? Rick S.
i believe the front part is reflective. mine is just the Half-Cover and is now faded to a charcoal gray cover. i could see that happening, however, i normally park in a well lit area at hotels/cabins if possible tho.
I rode out there from Winston-Salem on a GSX-R 750, my back and knees got too old for it so I will hopefully soon get a Goldwing. How much weight can it carry?
Tire inflator? I've had three flats. Each time, the "auto" strip plugs failed to work. Went with Dyna Plugs for peace of mind. I thought about a jump pack, but hell....I could always push it off. Safe travels....
Have never had to use it on my Wing....someone saved me one night on my Shadow tho...ever since then...I started carrying a jump pack...maybe i will return the favor one day. Could you Roll start a Wing I wonder?
MemphisMike I found out the hard way . you can start it easily in 2nd gear with a bit of a hand push or a bit of a downhill . I feel better knowing that .
I do that to but sometime I would prefer to have it closed when it's cold out wasn't sure if there was anything tat could be used to Help thanks for the comment love your videos
Joey Heil I wish I had a better answer honestly for this. I think there is a Pin-Lock shield that helps with fogging and some claim certain sprays as well help.
Hey Mike. I just bought a 2010, got to get it prepared for travel. Get some things that stay, and learn how to pack for trips. I was surprised to read in the owners manual that 410 pounds is the supposed capacity. Have you had any issues with the weight you put on yours for travel? Keep up the good work!
Honestly have not. Between packing and 2-up i am sure we exceed that and judging by other Wing Riders who are much larger than I, I am sure they more than exceed that!
When it comes to cameras don't forget the I-pads, too. Great to shoot 'em and send 'em. I did 32 days to Alaska last year without a trailer and camped the entire time... tent and mattress on the luggage rack, cooking gear in the trunk. Rain gear and clothes in one saddle bag, sleeping bag and toilet stuff in the other one. Would occasionally stuff some food in the trunk, too. With all respect to your fellow Memphis-ite Brother Chris.. that trailer stuff is...... .
LOL.....to each his own i suppose! Like i said...down the road i may consider a Unigo trailer. it is small and travels well..not too large and would give me just the extra amount on the long trip with Momma. heck i can still carry lots of groceries in the Wing as it is!!!
Question: looking at a 2017 Honda gold wing vs the 2018 model. Would I lose much if any going with the 2017? I know the 2017 has a larger fuel tank and capacity for cargo vs the dct transmission and air bag. If you were able to purchase either bike, which one would you choose? And why?
Peter Tantillo from what i understand, even tho 2018 is smaller tank, they are sayin more fuel efficient and can get same amount of mileage tank. If cargo space is important. Go with 2017. If electronics/technology is more important, go with 2018. Keep in mind..buy a 2017 and you can keep that bike many years. Personally m going to see how the 2018’s go and will be a while before i even consider one!
MemphisMike The actual mileage increased from 231-233.75. Not much of an improvement there. I don’t know if I’m losing much on the gear difference 5 vs 6/7. I just want a dependable bike that will last for years with little to no trouble. Electronics are ever changing, something new every year. Thanks for the reply. I watch your videos along with Memphis Mike and Chris Caliente. You’ve give me great knowledge that comes from year of riding and insite you can’t get from a book. Hope you and the family are well. Stay well my friend.
i can see the luxury of having it. I am considering the Unigo. it has 1 wheel on rear tire....it goes where you go and most say they do not even know it is behind you. with 2-up if i ventured for 14 days or so, it would be nice... i really prefer the bike tho as it is!!
I noticed one thing missing....A basic tool kit, some wire, connectors, fuses and a basic survival kit in case u need 2 make a fire 🔥 2 keep warm.... Ride safe....
I sure wish one of my friends on an HD saw this BEFORE we went off on a cross country international trip. He's earned the nickname "Gypsy Wagon" for his motorcycle with all kinds of shit strapped down to it way above the center of gravity. It rides badly, and occasionally I have to dodge shit flying off of his ride like Java Monster torpedoes. (He fired two of them in Utah in short order). I'll try to get him to look at this video so he can improve on his packing. The best description of that skill set is hot mess.
Oh dear god, too much crap is the understatement of the century with that one. I try to ride clean with something simple like a tail bag over the sissy bar. He was my motivation to ride that way.
Too bad he doesn't like trailers. They are a very convenient option. You also don't have to worry about over/under dressing or security of your belonging when you stop for a short/long time. I guarantee, if someone let him use a trailer for one ride, he would change his tune. I have known so many trailer owners who didn't think they needed a trailer until they experienced the absolute convenience of having one. At any bike rally, you have riders standing around in the sun because they don't have the convenience of pulling out a chair and cold drink to have a seat in the shade. It truly takes your riding experience to the next level. That overnighter or weekend trip becomes and extended stay of 4 days or more with options to stop and shop on the way. What better way to enjoy traveling than to be able to stop, smell the roses, enjoy the sites of the locale and pick up a souvenir or two. Trailers are the way to go if you want to embrace the true touring experience.
Victor...understand never said I do "not" like Trailers" Everything you say here is true buddy! I am simply suggesting for us it is not necessary for us to travel. That being said...If/When I get a trailer it is probably going to be a Unigo! Appreciate your comment!
USE STAINLESS STEEL FENDER WASHERS AND RUBBER WASHERS ( DAB OF SILICONE SEALANT AROUND THE HOLES OF THE RUBBER WASHERS , SEALS OUT. WATER . ) THE FENDER WASHERS WILL HELP DISPLACE THE RACKS LOAD WEIGHT .
I can vouch for losing satellite signal traveling through East Tennessee. I've done it more than once, so cell signal doesn't stand a chance down in those valleys
My opinions are this. Unless you are former infantry Marine veteran who obviously has plenty of experiences sleeping in -20 below zero to 110 degrees of desert in Iraq, you should never ever be foolish to gamble your life sleeping in the woods with little Walmart kid tents to save money or you want to prove something! Also so called motorcycle campers are complete joke to me. It will bring more headaches, more cost to maintain, more money spent to upgrade this and that, decrease mpg, not safe in corners, ugly, not comfortable, etc. Best bet is to stay at a hotel or motel with a lawn chair and hot showers with walking distance to nice fancy restaurant.
G,Day MemphisMike after my wife passed away in 1993 i bought a 1000 g/Wing fixed he up sold here and bought a 1100G/Wing aspencade great bike paint work was crap but motor an running gear was AA One kept her for a few years then bought a 1200 G/Wing fuel inj fixed her up sold her an bought a 1994/5 1500 Aspencade had her for 12 years kept her in my Daughters old bedroom sold her 168000km for 10k Aud bought a 2009 1800 G/Wing ABS Cd player GPD ABS Traction control had her for a few years did a lot of Kids with Cancer rallies but its was getting to heavy so sold her after 3years my goodness it hurt and bought a 1150 RT BMW still go on charity rallies for Cancer but i miss my goldwing and the 1500 had more luggage room than the 1800 G/Wing i would rather the 1500 if i could get it fuel injected for power an fuel economy but the 1800 you can change the rear tyre in 10 minutes cheers fellow riders .
well M.M. you can use a trailer for a beer cooler or a place to bed out at nite of the road or having coffee and a stove for hamburgers too!. M.M. is showing off his sexy pants and long sleeve shirt again. Like to meet the miss's too! your the best big brother...
M.M. is the best... A portable smoker! what a great idea. I can fit a little hibachi in the trunk of my G.L.1800 no problem with a small bag of BBQ's and fuel. Best meat of all the west.
2 seconds into this and I thought: "so you think you need a trailer to tour?' Erm, no, not ever...? I live in Britain. Which is in Europe. Which is in that HUGE big part of the world called "not America". I think in my 56 years I've seen ONE bike with a trailer. I have watched/read about a great many people travelling the entire world by bike - not one single trailer ever. Trailers? Is this a 'Murican thing so you have room for burgers & firearms? I just don't understand?
LoL.......no you don't....you just Need the Bike that YOU Like and RIDE!!!!!! Thanks for watching!
Nice video Mike. Of cource Chris would beg to differ. LOL! You are truly blessed to have a wife who doesn't need the kitchen sink. Keep it safe.
Ahhhh.. gotta love the smell of Plexus first thing in the morning... You know its gonna be a great day!
Better than coffee 😂
Every day I can slip on my riding boots 1st thing in the morning I say, “Happy Feet”!... All I want to do today is ride and eat! 👍
Good video Mike, I carried a small tent and went camping with all my stuff.
You hit that Magic word. I like a clean bike. I am so with you on that. Great video
I traveled for 25 yrs without a trailer, then got a great deal on a used one and have been pulling it on long trips the past 12 or 13 yrs. It's just another thing that once you have, you can't believe you did without it all those yrs. Lolol. Good video Mike ! Ride safe brother
yep.....kinda like touring on the Wing...how did I EVER do it on the Shadow!!!!!!
Yes the Fuji is awesome. I have made up to a 24x30 images with it and they look awesome.
Yeah unfortunately in the lighting I shoot at concerts, I really need at minimum f/2.8 all the way thru
Thanks for this. Looking at the 21 wing DCT and talking with my wife about doing the same kind of trips.
Just bought my first Goldwing, LOVE IT!!! it's a used 07 29,000 miles. I dont think my Harleys mind...
Congratulatiiins!
The Victory Vision has one of those secret compartments! Over the years I have learned to pack light! Great video!
lonestarrider It just makes for an easier trip. Necessities and narrow down to what you really need!!!
I bought those straps because of your videos. They worked great on our most recent trip. We packed our Electra Glide classic for 2 weeks out and didn't have a trailer. My wife did wash clothes twice on the trip and she didn't mind. Great packing video! Ride Safe
Love me some Rok Straps....thanks for sharing HDR!!!!!!!
This was my packing list from that trip:
In waterproof duffel:
1 pair Duluth pants (Brown or Grey 34’s)
1 pair Duluth insulated pants (unless wearing them)
1 pair shorts
4 t-shirts (buy a couple down there)
Pair of shoes
Small Backpack (see contents listed below)
In small backpack:
Laptop and charger
Phone wall charger
Sealskins socks
USB Speaker
2 Smartwool socks (wear one)
5 pair underwear
Duluth crushproof hat
First aid kit from Maxpedition bag (see contents listed below)
In first aid kit from Maxpedition bag:
Toothpaste
Tooth brush
Q-tips
Shampoo
Disposable razors
Band aids
Polysporin
Anti Biotics
Nail clippers
Insect repellent
Sunscreen
Adhesive tape
Lip balm
Eye drops
Hand wipes
Nitrile gloves
Tweezers
Comb
Floss
Foam ear plugs
Spare phone battery - charged
Deodorant
In action packer (top box):
Tool Roll - bottom
Zip ties - bottom
Extra tie downs - bottom
Paracord - bottom
Spare Oil - standing up, on bottom
Chain lube spray - standing up, on bottom
Plexus spray for cleaning face shield and windshield - standing up, on bottom
Siphon hose
Extra 2.5 gallon sized ziplock bags
Motorcycle cover/alarm (alarm in small ziplock bag)
Thermal shirt & Thermal liner for jacket (in ziplock bag if not wearing)
Kryptonite lock/(key on both keyrings)
Other cable and lock
Rain Pants/Rain jacket - in ziplock bag
In tank bag:
Spare bank card
Spare lock & key for bike/kryptonite
Sun glasses/regular glasses
Soft cloth for cleaning face shield and windshield
Maps/Hotel numbers, etc. Notes for trip
Metal pad for sidestand
Pen/Pad of paper
Tire gauge
Baseball hat
Registration/Insurance card
Headlamp
Flashlight/batteries
Gloves - both pair if not wearing one
Leatherman/bits
Waterproof Medicine box
USB cables for phone, speaker, and headset
Hand cleaner packets
Warner Smith Thanksnfor sharing that. Quite. A journey on that style Bike. And who says you need a Touring Bike to Tour right!!!!
Warner Smith And really and truly....why be in a hurry anyway!!!!!
DB.
Thanks for introducing me to those Rok straps!
Excellent video for potential Goldwing buyers Mike. This will give them good insight as to how much luggage they can take with them and how much space the Goldwing provides. Well done.
thanks Qbal! glad to see you back!
Always like the minimalist approach to travelin... Thx Memphis Mike... Peace, DB.
yes sir!!!!
Jims Motor Trike Gotta get the riding time in when you can for sure bud!!!! The Heat is tough at times!!!
Came from Cruiseman's Garage... Subscribed !
Thank you sir!!!!
Ok if bacon ad ribs are involved, u get an exception!
@@MemphisMike901 Wild pig too lean for bacon. But ribs are great.
@@masonjarhillbilly Interesting...did not know that!
Thanks for posting such an informative video! Couldn't help but notice a nice looking logo in the trunk ;) Ride safe!
WingStuff.com Thanks Wingstuff. Yep....hmmm. Wonder where that came from!!! Have spent a few dollars with you!!!
Good tips! I sure wish my 2019 was the size of your GW. Haven’t travelled with it yet.
The wife and I are heading out Thursday for our first overnight trip on our new Wing to ride the 72 mile Lake Tahoe loop. Thanks for the tips MemphisMike I'll use them to help pack the bike.
Awesome. Ride safe!!!
These two things i never felt a need for but im on it because its too good to pass by.
that is hard to pass up bro. I have my eye set on a Unigo Trailer for next year!
Super deal. If you don't want it, sell it and make money. You could double your cost.
toanogreen Exactly! Ride Safe
Eddie L I currently own 2015 wing and recently purchased a bush tec trailer. Nice and convenient but pricey. Make sure you will put it to use before you make the purchase. Excellent video and tips on packing.
It is a Nice Chunk of Change to invest in for sure!!!! Bushtec is proud of their trailer, but it is nice looking!
Great clip Mike, I appreciate your hard work.
thanks for your support Alan!
good video those battery charger jumper units. They will crank a car immediately!
greg c Thanks Greg. It has bailed me or someone out a time or 2 for sure!!!
I have some 2-3 week Touring ideas and could probably use the additional space, especially if wife goes!
those r so cool trailers
Black Flash knows best,,,,He is my man..... Bubba use to be my man but havent seen or heard from him lately. ride safe....
LoL...bubba is in hiding right now....Witness protection program...LoL
missing bubba! "we want Bubba-we want Bubba...) Best ken of all time. come on babe pull him out of that trunk on your honda goldwing.
I usually just wash T shirts n underwear n hang dry .. good to go. I'll also have a coffee and cooking set up for next year, next is to find a tent.
my wife is a over packer and We have yet to run out a room on the goldwing but we have yet to do more than an overnight trip and we don't do the cold gear because we don't ride in cold weather, my bones are too creeky, ours is the 1200 aspencade and I don't know if you have more room or less seems about the same. thinking about a trike, because of my motocross knees..but the gw is a dang great motorcycle. there is another option for those that feel a need and that is one of those trailer hitch carriers.
i always thought the 1200 had larger capacity?
I've used Sedici Heated gear from Cycle Gear with great success in places like a very wet, chilly British Columbia. It absolutely made the ride comfortable. They pack very small, and are comfortable to wear as well.
I am a solo rider and I have room for everything , yes a trailer would be nice even for this solo rider but I have plenty of room I just have to be careful of what I buy along the way, I have a nelson riggs bag that goes where passenger would sit, it holds enough cloths for a good week
i am afraid more room might lend itself to more buying of STUFF!!!!!
Nice Video, Nice packing. We have a 1200 Goldwing Interstate, Ride Safe Out There.
Going to test ride my first Gold Wing Friday!!!
Be prepared BUY! LoL....good luck David!

Goldwings are a piece of motorcycle art. The more i watch bike trip videos, the more i want one but i suppose it's not an optimal choice for a beginner, haha.
Not optimal but can be tamed with good training. Slow speed maneuvers would be your toughest battle
@@MemphisMike901 I'm sure i'd get the hang of it but i see the price as the biggest problem. Maybe i'll start out with a Rebel 500 or a retro bike like the CBs.
Cannot go wrong with either bike. Not sure how old you are. Ut took me in my 50’s to afford a USED Wing!
@@MemphisMike901 I'm 20. I suppose it'll take a decade or two before i can spend that kind of money for a two wheeler:D

Not just the trailer but a mini mate
Great video Mike and thanks for the packing info . I noticed that you have adds in front of your videos .
love your videos mike and I got the Elite 4's on my Goldwing great tyres mate thanks mike
Love my E4's!!!!
:) :) :)
That's exactly what I brought! I was gone for two weeks and I had no issues (all things considered). We rode a ton and we had a hell of a good time!
Loving ur motovlogs MemphisMike!...and that is a good camera u got there... 👍
Thank you sir for watching!

Hey Mike have you or Chris checked out that new Yamaha Venture? I was wondering if you guys could post that coversation.
I have seen it online but have no input yet on my thoughts. i think my buddy dBest1A Motovlogs may have a cut a vid on it.
vary nice setup ...thank you ...be be blessed ride safe
Ran into a guy in Arkansas pulling camper trailer will a full size bed behind his Vulcan. When I read the title I thought you meant a trailer to haul the bike on...see plenty of guys doing that.
i have a couple who has one of those...they traveled over 6k miles in the summer and was gone about 6 weeks!!!!
My CB1100 I would actually consider putting on a Trailer for a Destination(note-consider).....the Wing....only if it is Broke down!!!!
I like the video Mike, good stuff.
Chris Caliente Thank u my man, the miff, The Legend..Caliente!!!
You do need a trailer if you buy the new gold wing. Lost 40 ltrs of storage space on the new 2018 model.
I think you are correct honestly, especially if 2-up. I could still make it ok solo with the loss of space.
MemphisMike I was thinking the same thing. I think if you pack light for 1 person you could probably have enough space but with 2 up it’s going to be tight. I hope Honda will offer a larger set of bags if not now in the near future.
Peter Tantillo That would be an interesting option for sure. Might make the bike look a little off balance tho. Im a long ways from a 2018 tho!!!
MemphisMike I look for functionality over aesthetics. I wouldn’t mind if it didn’t look perfect.
Happy New Year MM! I’ve been looking for the very carpet liners you have - the one’s with the American Flags! Are they still being sold? I have not been able to find a set. I have a 2007 GW. THANKS Mike!

I like the tail pipe where you get it?
Thats just a Kuryakyn Tri-Tip. Cosmetic only
mike have you rode California hwy 1
I have been to CA one time. So No
GREAT video MM :) :) You CAN'T beat a wing for PLENTY of secured baggage !!!!
You might want a trailer if you have a 2018 Goldwing unless your cool with a pup tent and a change of drawers.
😂 true!
I love goldwing.....👍👍👍👍
I rode out there from Winston-Salem on a GSX-R 750, my back and knees got too old for it so I will hopefully soon get a Goldwing. How much weight can it carry?
417 lbs max Load capacity on the gen-1 gl1800
Good to know!
Beautiful motorbike !!
What do you use to keep your helmet lens from fogging up when you have it closed mine fogs up really bad lol
Joey Heil U know thats a good question. In the cold weather i actually usually leave it open just a tad, especially at a stop light
Good video.
Great video i in join it
sorry for the laungets i am from netherland
MemphisMike I know I have seen many Wings with much more than that weight, legalities I guess. I can't wait to load it up for a road trip!
MotoRamblings I say Load it up and give it a go my friend!
MemphisMike That's my plan!

Like i said...down the road i may consider a Unigo trailer. it is small and travels well..not too large and would give me just the extra amount on the long trip with Momma. heck i can still carry lots of groceries in the Wing as it is!!!
yep forgot about the iPads as well. i have my eye on a iPad Mini right now too!
Stay well my friend.
nice video . thanks from saudi arabia
Wow. You got it down. I would personally never use a trailer. If I need that much I'll take the car.
i can see the luxury of having it. I am considering the Unigo. it has 1 wheel on rear tire....it goes where you go and most say they do not even know it is behind you. with 2-up if i ventured for 14 days or so, it would be nice... i really prefer the bike tho as it is!!
I noticed one thing missing....A basic tool kit, some wire, connectors, fuses and a basic survival kit in case u need 2 make a fire 🔥
2 keep warm....
Ride safe....
Thanks for the tips! forgot to point out, do have a basic tool kit in saddlebag. and fuses in compartment in trunk!
LOL...sounds like he has too much CRAP!!!!
Oh dear god, too much crap is the understatement of the century with that one. I try to ride clean with something simple like a tail bag over the sissy bar. He was my motivation to ride that way.
Great vid
What's up Memphis Mike.
Whats happening!!!!
Appreciate your comment!
what kind of pant is that by Joe rocket ..(what are they called)
I believe they are the Joe rocket Ballistic pants..I have had them for a LONG time!
be careful with the trunk rack, slamming the lead down quit split around the wholes...
USE STAINLESS STEEL FENDER WASHERS AND RUBBER WASHERS
( DAB OF SILICONE SEALANT AROUND THE HOLES OF THE RUBBER WASHERS , SEALS OUT. WATER . ) THE FENDER WASHERS WILL HELP DISPLACE THE RACKS LOAD WEIGHT .
"Maps'" ?? There are no satellite GPS signal in those areas ?? lol
Nope!!

Nice bike! MemphisMike.
hey Mike I'm from whiteville
not too far away!!!
well M.M. you can use a trailer for a beer cooler or a place to bed out at nite of the road or having coffee and a stove for hamburgers too!.
M.M. is showing off his sexy pants and long sleeve shirt again. Like to meet the miss's too! your the best big brother...
LoL......thanks Henry......yes sir....one day we shall meet up I am sure!!!! I might could get my whole smoker in a trailer!!! roadside BBQ!
M.M. is the best... A portable smoker! what a great idea. I can fit a little hibachi in the trunk of my G.L.1800 no problem with a small bag of BBQ's and fuel. Best meat of all the west.
Okay Mike your wife's clothes are in the red bag where's the bag with your closing lol

When I need a trailer for my bike, I'll take my pick up and sell the bike.

I miss Mike. It’s been too long.
2 seconds into this and I thought: "so you think you need a trailer to tour?'
Erm, no, not ever...?
I live in Britain.
Which is in Europe.
Which is in that HUGE big part of the world called "not America". I think in my 56 years I've seen ONE bike with a trailer.
I have watched/read about a great many people travelling the entire world by bike - not one single trailer ever.
Trailers? Is this a 'Murican thing so you have room for burgers & firearms? I just don't understand?
Yep. I do not or ever had a trailer as of yet!
If you need a trailer, you need to sell the Goldwing and get a car or a Harley and start wearing leather chaps and all the other gay pirate look gear.
