A most enjoyable video; however, it is so detailed and the steps so precisely laid out that after watching it I felt as if I didn't need to build it myself, that I had already done so. LOL

Blimey mate! I remember building a 1/24 scale Spitfire back in my early teens, when I did model building and stuff (That was back in the 90's). I remember that model having a quite extensive cockpit build, but that's nothing compared to this thing! As and additional note, you also did about a 100 times better then young teenage me did. Despite me being quite fond of the results of that Spit.
Quite fun to see this. Again, I haven't done anything model building related since those days, so I don't have a clue why TH-cam decided to throw this at me now, but, fun to watch non the less.

Your style of video is most refreshing and I particularly like that you show instructions in top left corner. I can appreciate this takes a lot of man hours to do but trust me it’s well worth all the effort 🙏😇😍
I have two Tamiya 1/32nd Spitfires, the MkVIII and the MkIXc. I’m fairly new to modelling. I did it as a child in 70’s, but life and girls soon put a stop to it. But seven years ago I became ill and had to give up work, I was a precision engineer working on CNC lathes, my doctors where worried about my mental health and asked if I had any hobbies, wildlife photography, motorsports and diy were all out of the question but one asked about my childhood hobbies so I mentioned modelling and that was that 😍😍😍 been hooked ever since. My main problem is just how different the hobby is now and how easy it is with the internet 🤓😍👍 and with people like yourself I’ve gained a lot of useful skills, but I’m still not good enough to attack my Spitfires 😔 I’ve a F4J Phantom 1/32nd Tamiya, a 1/32nd HKM Gloster Meteor and a Revell ME109F2. I like 1/32nd as the parts are easier to see 😂😂😂 I also build 1/35th German WWII armour mainly Tigers or anything ugly like the little RSO tractor unit 😍😍😍
Anyway I’d just like to say I love your channel so thank you very much for sharing your wonderful work with us and also thank you for sharing your “How To’s” especially when they save me money for more kits 😇😎😍 anyway I’m off to view more of your wonderful work. Thanks again for all you do for us 🙏🙏🙏 extremely worth while and inspiring work so keep up the great work you’re doing it’s awesome 😎🙏😍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Great video - thanks! My boys bought me this for Xmas 2022. I had not done an Airfix for 50 years! Took my time and was amazed at the quality on the pieces. I particularly loved the engine. What detail! Airfix (Hornby?) has come a long way!

Very informative, I usually put masking tape on big joining surfaces that need pre painitng. I learned this the hard way with Eduard 1:48 Spitfires which have a similar tub assembly.

It is, far more than my eyes can see without magnification! The decals for the instrument panel are readable.....

Hi, when you opplied the oil wash to the cockpit did you put a coat of varnish over the paint 1st? Brilliant video's BTW!
I usually use a coat of Pledge (Also known historically as Future/Klear) as it aids in flow, but it's not 100% necessary.
I wonder if a 1/16 scale kit with more realistic materials (flexible tubing, rigged stick, rudder pedals, fabric wing covering, rubber tires, retractable gear, etc.) could be had or if one could take a kit, and substitute the necessary modifications and materials?
As these kits go up in size, they often do not go up in detail or materials but simply price... Thoughts?

Thank you! I painted the seatbelts with a mixture of acrylics and a Windsor & Newton series 7 brush, The drill is a Wowstick - link on my Amazon store in the video details.

Great step by step technique regarding the presentation of the video! Was it you that had the warped/damaged wires attached to a cockpit wall box? It looks as if the plastic had been stressed - how did that go?
I think you're referring to the deicing system, which attaches to the sidewall in three places I think - I put the main box on first then glued the others, and I did put some stress on the lines, but nothing that was an issue. I imagine many will replace these lines with wire in any case, though little can be seen of this assembly when in place

I wonder if the instrument panel is clear for those who may want to add some cockpit lighting? If indeed the plane had illuminated dials!
Thanks! As for backlit dials, It did not - the Spit had a small floodlight on the right hand side that could be shone onto the panel - though it was adjustable!

Thanks Alex. Then the clear panel is truly a mystery. As a starship modeller too it is crying out for some LEDs there - even has the holes behind for them.
Maybe mine will need to be a Spitfire Ghia or Vanden Plas 😊

I have not built models in a while and am planning to get back into it. Watching this I kept wondering, there are many pieces you attached, like various detail pieces to the walls, etc. that you then needed to paint (generally black) after painting the entire assembly. Why would you not paint those pieces before attaching them?

Go for it! I hesitated over the price and probably wouldn't have vought it if it weren't for having the channel - and I'm so glad I did - it's been a great experience so far...Airfix seem to be be continually and progressively developing these days

I read a comment (somewhere else) suggesting that the skin-surface rivets aren't right - that they are more like small holes, rather than flattened circles. Is this a correct observation? At a smaller scale a modeller can use a rivet-wheel making small pits for the weathering process, but at this scale?
Standard Spitfire rivets were (as I understand) around 1/8" - or about 3mm. At this scale, that's only 0.13mm - something easily represented by a rivet-wheel. What would change, of course, would be the spacing between them to get the right number of teeth per wheel for the riveter.
We sometimes forget in modelling just how small some of the things we're trying to represent would be if really at scale - sometimes an out of scale representation looks better to our eye than an undetectable feature that would be true scale.
How do you like that wowstick? Does it hold additional size bits or just the few it comes with? That tool has me intrigued. Is it a worthwhile investment? I would appreciate any thoughts about it that you could share. Loving the build series so far!!

hello, noob question for anyone who's willing to answer. how long does it take for cement to take a grip and is there different time from revell contacta and tamiya fine. i think i might be trying to hold the pieces in place too long and spoilint the position of some of them. like i said noob question but we have to start somewhere.
Question welcome! Yes, there is a big difference in weld time. Pure solvent based (Tamiya Extra Thin etc) will work in a matter of seconds - in fact it's best NOT to hold pieces since the capillary action of the low surface tension liquid can draw the solvents between your fingers and the part, leaving fingerprints embedded in the plastic. Cements like Contacts, Humbrol, Tamiya regular etc have small amounts of styrene dissolved in then which increases the evaporation time, meaning a longer contact time and deeper weld. This can take minutes to complete, depending on location.
My advice - buy some clamps and soft-touch silicone pegs to hold pieces together before adding Tamiya Extra Thin so no deformation or damage occurs

Instrument panel should have been made in two panels.Looks good overall.
Technically correct, but the difference between that and what is presented in the kit would be pretty much invisible given the gap between these two would be around 0.1mm, and hidden under the gunsight. I certainly wouldn't criticise Airfix for the way they've engineered it.
@@MannsModelMoments I would have thought two panels would have lessened the obvious sinkage.Would have been a nice touch too considering how well the overall execution is.
I was fortunate to pick up a bottle not long before it was discontinued last year. I am researching alternatives atm and will post a video when I do

I do try to keep the background music low so if you find it distracting you can lower the volume to reduce it more relative to the voiceover.
I ve heard new/rumors that there has been a delay in shipping before christmas? any ideas?
I pre-ordered mine a few days before it was released - yet it arrived very promptly. I suspect any delays are more down to industrial action by the Royal Mail....but I don't know definitively!
i ordered mine direct from airfix last week Wednesday it arrived Saturday with the poster thats quick enough for me

It doesn’t seem like Airfix get as good of a reputation as some of the other manufacturers. Why is that in your opinion ?
Good Question. I think it's down to history.
People's experience with Airfix is mainly from their old 1970s kits or the period during the Heller/Humbrol years, which weren't that great. I had the same impression of them until I heard about the Tempest last year, and my eyes were opened to what they've been doing over the last decade or so.
If current Airfix was a new manufacturer, they'd be getting a lot of praise and have that reputation, but the fact is a lot of (primarily older) modellers can't let the past go and still see the "old Airfix" rather than judging them by what they're doing today.

I’ve been inside mk1s,2s,5s& 9s there all aluminium at the rear where the compressed air tanks & pilot oxygen tank are stored... so if you made a comment about it ... I didn’t give it a chance

@@garrylewis298 Thanks - yeah, I could have taken it back to the aluminium I based in, but my finishing wasn't really the focus of the video. As I'll have the canopy open, that area will only be barely visible through two layers of canopy glass - if anyone notices after that I'll give them a nod of acknowledgement! 🙂

The seat is actually a russet red,not interior grey/green
Yes, as I painted and commented on in the video....although some later ones were actually metal and could be interior grey/green, though most were painted black
