I love the crisp end to the crescendo in the middle. "Young Band", so disciplined and mature, nailed it. Yes, Rita watching still. Its fascinating seeing her do successive versions of songs, how each time she is prepared to push the limits some more and take even further risks. Sometimes its too far... but always interesting. And now is exactly the time for her to find out what works . If performing music isn't also play, that license for fun and failure, then we have mistaken its purpose. Now she leans back in her timing, refusing to be pushed by the music . She has by now, fully perfected her microphone technique. She knows to smooch up close, to best get her deep, deep husky voice , backs off and turns away for the fortissimo power without deafening us. But, wow, such a change of quality results, not obscured by mere volume difference. By now she is so in control of what she is attempting. There are beautiful stories to tell in these hundreds of videos of talented youngsters, blossoming into world class, confident creators and performers of musical art.
This was written by Charles Mingus as a eulogy for Duke Ellington. "Duke Ellington's Sound of Love" - Charles Mingus Changes Two | Atlantic Studios, NYC 1974 : I was young and carefree, Not a sound had found my soul Lost in blues, jazz and ragtime, No sound had got to my mood. I was searching for my melody, Love blues that gets me wooed. All alone. Sad clown with his circus closed down Lost on my merry-go-round came a melody In my heart so yearning. Taught me to hear music out of love, From the soul, For this Life We all live infinite with the lover, And beloved as one Ellington Sound of Love.
Duke Ellington's Sound of Love I was young and care free, Not a song have found my soul, Lost in blues jazz and rag time, No sound had got to my muse... I was searching for my melody, Love blues that gets me ooh, All alone, sad clown with a circus closed down, Lost on my merry go round, Came a melody in my heart, So yearning... Taught me to your music out of love, From the song, for this life, We all live infinite, With our lover and beloved, As one Ellington sound of love...
Oh Rita, Rita, Rita! Touched by something beyond. And EVERYONE so incredibly talented. What a band ... what music! And OMG, that gorgeous Codina solo!! Among the very best jazz musicians on the Internet regardless of age. This performance is, IMHO, another Chamorro masterpiece!
WOW......... I'm now Rita's greatest fan.......hard to put into words, how outstanding these musicians really are at such a young age. I am very grateful to have heard them in my lifetime.......77 Stars please.....
This is a beautiful song, I never heard it before! I love the arrangement and Rita's singing and Joan Codina's solo! It's a great piece! Thanks to you all for this gift of beautiful sounds!
The very great Duke Ellington showcased by the Young Band I have become very fond of. Beautiful entry by Joan Mar - and though I couldn't make out most of the words....Rtia's voice, tone and phrasing absolutely perfect in performance...transmitting the mood and emotion perfectly - Joan Codina's trumpeta also sung the song very nicely - the band as a whole flawless. Thanks Toni V for the arreglo and Joan C the beloved Director Bon Nadal i Felic Any Nuo
I'm generally too low-brow to appreciate Mingus. ¡But man! ¡What an arrangement -- with just the band that can pull it off! Rita is excellent; Joan Codina marvelous and all of that multi-layered filling gives even me a little extra depth.
Hopefully, you will be touring America in the new year. Would love to sit in on one of your gigs. You and these young musicians are a much appreciated credit to the legacies of the many artists you cover. What a refreshing venue in which to see next generation musicians excelling; compared to what we are inundated with today. Thank you for the proper guidance and leadership. May God bless you all!👍
I can only imagine how much brilliant footage you have that we have yet had the privilege to see. Thanks for releasing this one from a couple of years ago looks like. Man, all the heavy hitters in this particular ensemble. Amazing! And Rita doing what Rita does and that’s be stunningly brilliant. What a spectacular performance💜
Hello, for a few years now I have been following J. Chamorro and his young musicians on TH-cam and have watched almost everything. I am very enthusiastic about the Young Band with this line-up. Personally, I would still like to Joana Casanova ( good voice ), Elia Bastida ( violin ), and of course Andrea Motis are missing. It is unbelievable how many young musicians they have Mr. Chamorro. Please carry on like this. Thank you so much.
Great job with a very challenging tune. challenging in that it is sooooo slow! I would think the challenge is to be able to play slow enough to match the Duke's tempo on this! I wonder what would happen if you doubled the tempo! This is reminiscent of the Dukes, "Mood Indigo" with regard to his use of the horn section. Thank goodness he also did a huge number of up-beat numbers like "Take the A Train". You all nailed it!
Got it in one! All the kids from San Andreu have listened to many hours of Ella, to great effect. Rita makes it clear in the first minute who else has influenced her. Billie would be proud.
There is another version of this masterpiece, recorded the previous year, also found on Maestro Chamorro's SAJB channel. Love them both! th-cam.com/video/jHAPzjgOoPY/w-d-xo.html
Great tune, great ensemble sound, having trouble getting the lyrics. That may be a style choice but personally, if you are going to sing lyrics you need to get the story of the song out. Still, the vocal fits the mood of the tune.

My Billie Holiday detector just went off. I don't know if this is intentional but it is what it is. Nice, Rita.
