I've been a jazz aficionado since childhood, steeped in all the great singers, bands and standards. I cannot express how knocked out I am by these two young ladies. Pure magic. 👏👏👏👏
They are so young but so good. It's amazing.
This is one of my favourite Alba performances. I suspect that Rita's outrageous, over the top, rendition of a jealous mistress, (the hair routine (!) which Alba noted), surely pushed her into a really strong response.
Rita, like Magali is more the actor than mere chanteuse. Her singing style pays more attention to normal speech rhythms, for instance, to capture their emotional heft in her music.
I think Alba caught some of this heightened emotionalism. (The very firm, entirely spoken "I'm fair!" is entirely new to Alba's repertoire of techniques.)

Alba's vocals here are amazingly mature and sophisticated for a 15-year-old. And Rita is, as always, fabulous.

Perfect Combination of voices and instruments ! Real jazz vocals from Rita and Alba . Great guitar solo. Love it.
One of my favorite songs. This is the version that Carmen McRae and Betty Carter did in the 70's. What blows me away is the trumpet and trombone intro, it gives me the chills! The vocals are just added excellence to a great performance.
I’m correcting myself. It was done in the 80’s, not the seventies.
I missed this one until now! This is amazing and blows the Carmen McRae / Betty Carter version out of the water! Okay, both Carmen and Betty were past their prime, but still... As Rita sings her solo, I think she has Billie Holiday in mind. She not as eccentric as Billie, her playfulness, on the other hand, is ridiculously infectious. And Alba vocals always drill right down into my soul! Together they sound unearthly; they're a couple of angles. The rest of the band sounds as tight as ever and Abril's drumming is superb. It's difficult to assess from a video, but it seems as if she's tapping the skins and cymbals ever so lightly while laying down that fantastic grove. Great work, this will be playing on a loop for a good long time!
The Lovely, super-talented, and passionate Rita Payes teamed up together with Amazing Alba, can’t get any better than that!!! Love all their videos from the younger days and this is right up there! Thank you Joan and fellow musicians!
It's funny that you refer to the "younger days," even though Alba was only about 15 during this performance, and Rita only 18 or 19. They were both musical prodigies, for sure. I've seen the video of Alba's note-perfect trumpet solo when she was 8. And Rita must have arrived from another planet altogether!
@@garryberman894 Garry, I couldn't get the link to transfer, but check out Rita at about 13, sitting on her bed with a guitar and singing "Time after Time" in her third or fourth language. "Prodigy" doesn't even begin to describe her.

Je connais ce morceau depuis sa création par Oliver Nelson entouré de Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard et quelques autres; j'adore cette re création, Rita y brille de tout son talent, superbement entourée elle aussi. Quelle merveille, merci!
This is by far the best vocalizing of this tune since Mark Murphy (RIP) recorded it back in the late '70's.

I only recently discovered the wonderful work Joan Chamorro is doing with his group of very gifted and talented young musicians. These two young ladies are exceptional! Rita's voice really does it for me. She has that classy old soul jazz sound. I love it! Alba is nothing short of Outstanding as well. I keep searching their names on YT and find new material and "new" old material all the time. The SAJB alumni, especially the women, seem to work insanely hard and well. Joan Chamorro is doing a very, very, very good thing, bringing achievement and delight to so many.

Ms. Rita has the vocal range to sing the lower parts of duets. That's not easy, you need a great musical ear to pull that off. This might be my favorite of the SANT videos because of these two talented young ladies and the rest of the musicians!
I can't agree more. The contralto lines are always more difficult than the soprano lines that usually make the melody. They are the ones who make the gun. Live, Rita is one of the young musicians who has impressed me the most. My opinion: Sing with if you play the trombone, and play the trombone as if you sing. Naturally, effortlessly, and without unnecessary theatre. If you miss the opportunity, don't miss it.

There are so many great young lady singers in this band that we are pampered in style! :-))) I would definitely prefer even more duets, tercets, quartets, and quintets, etc.! Regarding the duets only, I found it that Alba's and Andrea's voices complete each other the best, when both are singing at the same time. When they are singing following each other (alternately), Alba and Rita are great and funny!

If you look at comments on these Sant Andreu videos you will see that they often start off with praise for the soloists and then go on to heap praise on everyone else! Uniform excellence!
Watching so many videos of these wonderful musicians in only the past month or two, I feel as if I've watched them grow from amazingly talented teenagers into accomplished, world-class jazz performers almost overnight.

This is my favorite number from SAJB. Alba y Rita soared instrumentally y vocally above all the great tunes to come out of Sala Jamboree and all the other venues. We all have a favorite and this is mine. Thanks Joan.

Krugman is just a Democrat with a byline and I co-sign to your sentiment; Ocasio-Cortez is a real communist/fascist who has become not only a congresswoman but a guiding light of Democrat dogma. That gave me pause, but I still love, love, love listening to the swinging kids daily. AOC and her ilk would have serious problems with the lyrics of people like George Gershwin and Hoagy Carmichael. Fun is not allowed in the world of the Woke.
