I have a 2003 E270 which has the 5cyl 2.7L Diesel engine. I changed the thermostat a couple of months ago and has made a big difference to fuel consumption since the engine gets up to the correct temperature.
Hi Colin, I was interested to see your comment regarding your change of thermostat housing on the 2.7 5 cylinder Mercedes engine and how that had a beneficial effect upon your fuel consumption. I have been running an 04 Jeep WJ 2.7 CRD for over a year. This has the same engine as you've mentioned so I understand. I'd never really considered the relatively poor fuel consumption being returned, primarily because its a big heavy four wheel drive car, used mostly on journeys of less than ten miles at a time but now you mention the temperature being shown on the gauge its made me realise that the needle never reaches even a quarter, never mind half way. I will now look into changing the thermostat and hopefully benefit from improved mpg. With diesel at over £2.00 a gallon now there's never been a better time to do it!! Cheers Bob
Hey Bob - your fuel economy can easily be affected by the engine not reaching optimal temperature, as on cold running the fuel mixture will be rich, higher amount of diesel being injected at each piston cycle. While I don’t think you’ll notice a big difference on fuel economy after you fix/fixed the thermostat, it is anyway a good fix as you’ll save the engine’s life. Best of luck!
Oh yes, with the proper care and just a bit of love these can definitely last forever. Most of them I see on the road look good and fresh despite their age. Solid german engineering!
Nice video and well laid out. Your pronunciation is excellent. I just picked up a 2003 E500 Sport and it has the white dash background. I'm a BMW guy I had 13 in a row I figured give Benz a shot. So far so good I'll let you know. I'm new to your channel and I like what I see keep up the great work 👍
@@hugopereira9925 Well, I loved it but sold it after a month as an S Type came up which was amazing for the price and I got that. I ly just sold the Jag but I still which I had the Merc to be honest.
I have the same car, with a few more options: memory front seats, sunroof, and COMAND. Maybe I'm used to more power, but I did find this car to be a bit slow. Never mind, though, performance isn't my first priority.
Hi, great video. Saw the Irish registration and said I'd click the video as I'm Irish haha. I'm currently looking at one of these as a second car, I have a 2018 Passat for other use. I always wanted a W211 and I'm looking towards buying one. I'm just wondering had you much issues with this car? Thanks
Nope - they are very reliable - on some poor maintained ones the timing chain develops issues but change the oil regularly ~10k km and nothing cracks. Fuel pump in the tank (sender unit) might go wrong especially if driving with virtually no petrol in the fuel tank and costs about ~€200 and 15 minutes to fit it under the rear seats. Thermostat gets blocked at some point and stays open so coolant temp won't reach 90 degrees but this is also a €35 part and about 20 minutes to fit it yourself literally, incl. coffee break. Hope you did find something for your taste in the meantime!
@@tudor9129 Found a nice E200 in a sort of wine or red ish colour with cream interior. It's the same specification as your car in the video. Pleasure to drive. Thanks.
Hi Tudor, i got mine recently bought a high spec E220 CDI, also cheap, i was lucky lol. mine is also an 07 with the panoramic roof. Im planing to do an e63 body kit conversion on it soon. Any suggestions for a good mercedes mechanic in Dublin?
Congratulations for your purchase! Can't reccommend somebody in particular but the guys at The Square Tyres (Tallaght) where filmed the video with my BMW GT are very nice and good. 👌🏻
Hi Tudor. Please am planning to buy a mercedes Benz E200 2005 model I want to know if this model have air suspension because I don't want to buy any with air suspension. Please kindly reply me. Thanks
@@godsgiftgodswill8445 None of which I have seen had the air suspension apart from Estate version which has it only on rear axle for levelling on heavy loads. Good luck with the aquisition!
In germany mostly all e200 4zyl have broken timing chain, you can here it on start up. The nocking is 100% the chain even if it is low on oil. But nice car for the price. Invest a new chain then you are good
Are you Romanian? I have a 2007 W211 V6 diesel with 16 inch rims. I would not change the rims because the ride will be affected. I think I’ll keep it until I’ll reach 1 million miles or at least I’ll try. Probably we’ll run out of diesel before that happens.
Yes, Marcel. Romanian living in Ireland. Best of luck with the E, I assume it is E320 or E280 - should go many miles without major issues if kept well.
@@tudor9129 Salutari Tudor. Îmi pare tare bine când un compatriot a reușit in străinătate, oameni ca tine ma fac mândru ca sunt roman. I've just bought the 320 cdi (om648 engine) Avantgarde edition for £440. It has a few issues. But it looks great and runs very nicely.
Congratulations for your purchase! I would say that you’ll have a lot of fun while curing those issues and get it to proper condition once again.
