For us guys in Europe. Buy the 6 cylinders - facelift models. They made (if I am not mistaken) 4000 changes on the facelift. It is a bulletproof car. No one complains from the MY 2006+. No SBC, no bull...
I have a ‘05 E500 Wagon 4Matic for two years now . This car is great. No leaks, quiet ride. It was well maintained and cared for. Mercedes owners- do your regular maintenance!!

I have absolut the same car i can confirm that and i would say its the most reliable (and I'm not the only one who says that) Diesel-engine of the w211 also cause mercedes spend alot of work to perfect this om647 engine.
New subscriber, loving your channel idea. Definitely serving an important information niche that lets the buyer know what problems to anticipate from the car they are buying. Great service! Thank you.
I have a 2008 W211 E350. I put about 50K miles on the car (now it has 110K). No issues other than common petrol engine problems, such as fuel pump. No issues whatsoever. Avoid a 2003-2006 AT ALL COSTS; those are the ones that earned merc a bad rep, 07-09 are the way to go. I love my 08
Im looking to buy a early W211 im not afraid of all this, you just have to check it out and take your time. Most of these electronic problems have been fixed back in the day.
I haven't heard about that yet, but im looking for either the e200 or e240 so i guess i will not have thát problem. I'm a bit sceptic to all the problems mentioned though. Because my current car (a Seat toledo (BY 2000) with the 1.6sr engine should've troubles with the gearbox as well (manual) but i've never ever had troubles with that, and never heard about it as well happening to people.
Hi I’ve had an E-class E280 cdi. Bought it new 2008. 3.0 L V6, elegance, iridium silver metallic. Automatic 7 gears. Just did services in time in an AUTHORIZED workshop. Changed oil in the gearbox as recommended. Brake pads and so. Sold it 8 months ago, for the new E220d 2018. After 11 years, and 180000 KM, it looked as new. Secondhand value was pretty high. Never used machine wash with brushes, or flushing the underneath of the car. I think, I’d better stick to Mercedes Benz. Fifth Mercedes, and still very content.
I havent been in a '18 benz myself but i saw a video online where every interior panel moves or makes creaking noises when touched. Is it really that bad?
it is the second car i have owned, now at 20 years old. 2004 E500 RWD 7-speed auto. I am falling more in love with the car every day. I bought it at 145k and drove it to 160k in the first year. I've already gone through a set of rear tires, while the front tires are just fine😂. I've had my buddy replace several random components under the hood (PS pump, Radiator, intake tubes...) and cut the resonator out of the exhaust system. still sounds quiet, with a MEZMERIZING v8 tone. Just audible enough to show off. I have gone to 130mph (ECU-limit/top speed) only once. I felt there was no need to go that fast, because I felt no difference compared to driving at appropriate speed. They are made for you to enjoy the drive, no matter what. Parts and repairs are widely available from my experience.
It was such a fun idea to add some comedy into this video (MIB 2), I like your facts! No bullshit, straight to the point and youre accent is very good, easy for the ears:)
One of the most reliable cars appart the SBC system of the brakes but if you buy from 2006 to 2009 the sbc is removed. owned it for 5 years not a single problem
I have an 2003 E270 cdi with no major problems for the last 10 years of owning it with regular maintenance. Only thing i have ever replaced was the shocks, catalytic converter and littel cosmetic stuff like the roof lining coming off at the back.
Hi. I have a chance to get a 2006 E280 V6 for a good price, how is it so far with it? Still happy? Had a 2009 C180 at some point but was really dissapointed with the quality of it.
Had a E500 2003, from 150.000km to 200.000km pain in the ass... Sbc broke (brake system) 1300$ Air suspension broke many times, spend around 2300$ to fix in 2 year it, at the end when it stil needed to be fixed the suspension for around 2500$ (sold in insteed of fixing it) Converter broke (didn't wanna spend money sold it insteed but it was 4000$ to fix, yes 4000$...) the engine mounts went bad 2 times, about 500$ to fix each time. the wheel beerings whent bad about 2 times on each wheel, about 1300$ to fix in total. Gearbox had a malfuncition, they never found the problem... but told me it needed a new one to around 10.000$... The airsuspension computer went wrong every other day, spend like 200$ a month trying to fix that... If you want this car, just buy 2 off them, one to drive and one for spare parts, will be cheaper in the end. All of this said, i will properly buy a mercedes again, there is just something about them... They say the airsuspension is very comfortable, thats not true, cause your allways listening to sound any looking for potholes cause you know it will brake soon, and it wont be cheap to fix it.....
Produced in other countries for USA market coz usa cant produce shit german cars Italian cars are reliable no much issues if you take care for your car
Don't forget, some of the 3.5l engines had balance shaft issues. Check the serial number and or service records to be sure the car has been fixed or is unaffected.
ks10308 From my research, the 07-09 engines were arranged at 60 degrees while the older ones were arranged in 90 degrees. So the newer eliminated the balance shaft.
Just back from a service done by a MB engineer who would have done his apprenticeship in Sindelfingen , and likely spent the best part of his working life there (he's late 40', early 50's now). He has his own garage now (as clean and organised as a medical operating room !) and one can only see him on the recommendation of another client - and he services MB's only. My car is a 2009 W211 (one of the last off of the production line), and I asked him about changing to the W212. He recommended not to touch them; adding that their engines are 'plastic', and will never approach the almost agricultural indestructibility of a regularly serviced W211. So that's it them, my W211 will see me off the planet.
I'm considering getting a 2009 W211 actually. Any issues to worry about? I have about a 45 minute commute to work each way so I'm worried about problems due to racking up so many miles. I'm not worrying about regular services just problems coming out of left field.
Best years are 2004-2005 pre-facelift cars. Much less electronics, simpler engines, more reliable. SBC is not as big of an issue as it seems - 25 years warranty in the states, can get good used one for reasonable price in europe.
I really have a feeling that you just point out all the electronic parts and put them in issues list, the same with engines. Yet, on this models, the only known problem so far has been ABS block in prefacelifted models, and G-tronic gear box on facelift models, and it's not even problematic, just needs good maintenance. And 5.5 NA engine on facelift is one of the best engines mercedes has ever built.
great vehicle 2 billion invested in engineering, and research obviously its over engineered but today, 2017 these cars are in every scrap yard parts are cheap easy to fix, and great to drive, period. million km is possible
MB is now giving a 25 year warranty on the SBC brake system. I have an 04 E320 that rides smooth as silk. I have had it 10 years now and the only thing that is disappointing to me is the poor quality/ workmanship of the interior.
If someone buys a saloon, check the boot/truck for leaks. Common issue with these cars. I've changed 3/4 parts and it still leaking. Finally found where it's coming from.
05 E500 W211 92,000 miles. Front Air struts, EGR valve, SBC, Three motor mounts, Coolant mixture valve, Active Headlights, Coolant return hose. All Replaced in just 15000 miles of owning it. So Get a service book or Have a friend for a mechanic.
I have a 2005 e500 ... I have driven lots of cars bro but this is the best car I have ever driven... it’s funny because it drives far solid than the. Ever 2018 e class. I replaced the air suspension to springs and it has saved me hundreds of dollars... I mean it’s an old car so why waste money on airmatic ... try doing the same and u will love it../ it’s a good car 2005 E500
I have owned the 2008 E550 for the past 3years in Nigeria. Problems faced : 1. Airmatic suspension. I had to replace all to struts. The drive feels so good. 2. Seatbelt SRS alarms. I haven’t been able to fix that. 3. No one problem.
Face lifted models 2007MY + models have soft balancer shaft engine that are $$$$ to repair. These are the M272 3.5L engines. The issue was fixed sometime in 2007-2008 and there are websites out there to check by VIN if a car's engine is affected.
I own w211 2008 and w212 facelift the cars are awesome every mercedes is extra quality the only car which can last with milions kilometers without big problems
Beginning in 1981, I had them for 20 yrs. All were supplied new by my company. LOTS of problems. Never again. Yes, they were made in Germany and yes, maintenance was perfect. Incidentally, 2 arrived with factory defects.
Have an 04 E320 Avantgard edition.......quiet, comfortable and rides great but the interior materials and quality are bad. SBS brakes stop great but are troublesome. As mentioned the air suspension sooner or later will fail on you. Also the crank pin sensors go bad due to heat.
I had this for 8 years and was full of mechanical and electronic problems all expensive to fix - once the spring broke with no warning I had enough and sold it
I have a 320 CDI T 204hp 2004 combi the biggest problem I have with this car is airmatic atm and I get some water leaks I don't know from where witch is turning the car into something really bad I don't have V6 engine I have the better one 6 cylinder witch is better then the v6 and the power is still 204 hp I get low fuel consumption witch is great and the quality of the audio system is crazy Kardon is a great audio system if your looking to buy this car do it its easy to repair by yourself not that many electronics in it DVD/tv is great if you can find a good price with this options
If your fuel pump goes out talk to your closest dealership. They will replace it for free if under certain mileage. That's the only issue I've had with my E.
That ridiculous list is not like a thumb rule on this car, those are not common problems. This video is completely misleading this car, it looks like a hate toward this car seems like!
to who ever own one of these cars and doesn't have any problems. you lucky to have a well build Mercedes. its a shame because i really like how these cars looks and designed !! unfortunately I'm not a mechanic or do it your self type a person . i will never buy one of these cars unless i have enough to pay someone to fix it for me
Thank you for the review. I ask what model of Mercedes Benz from 2009 do you suggest for one to buy when it comes to less issues and ease of maintenance? Thanks
thanks for your reviews, I am from Thailand. By the way, please, kindly advise between BMW E60 vs Benz W211,the same engine. which one is value for buying and long driving? thanks again.
well the W211 is generally more comfortable than the BMW, the BMW is more of a drivers car with more dynamic-steering, transmission and suspension, so it depends mainly on your personal preference
Hey mate, I'm looking at buying a 2007 E500 5.5V8, what do you think of these engines are they reliable.if they have been serviced on time? Anything to watch for or check particularly? Cheers
320 CDI Inline-6 --- Cracks in the head ... Near Glow plugs!!!! Design problem. 9 cars out of 10 got that. My 2004 w211 320CDI 150kw got that. Just wanted to change my headgasket. Engine was running totally fine...Cold start got white smoke little bit more than normal. Then reality kicks in... Head full of cracks! I got some cracks even between the valves. Ticking time Bomb!
Don't know where you heard that rubbish, The OM648 is a 500k mile engine if properly maintained! My 2005 3.2 CDi is running like a Swiss clock with none of those issues ever. Sure you never blocked the EGR valve or deactivated it as that will cause overheating issues?
I have 2004 TOYOTA Corolla diesel and for last 4 years of use I did not had any of the problems with the car you mentioned. You have chose wrong car mate.
never change oil from gear box , thats all mercedes seller/ dealer says and they got right , my griend merc go to 700k km with no issues ! 2003 model , e 270.
Did Mercedes put M271 engines on the E-Class? I'm asking because I've seen that there is a 1.8 Kompressor in the list and far as I know, on the W203 that's an M271..
Hello... I just got a Mercedes E350 2004 with 66k Miles... when is the best time to change the oil... or will it indicate in the dashboard when it’s time to do it? Please I need your advice..Thanks much.
the best is to change it after 10 000 km / 6 213 mi, the dashboard should indicate it-as a service interval, but usually it indicates a lot later than this particular interval
what about the E230 2009 model, is it good to buy used? 158k kms say all are in good running condition? will it be a reliable car for everyday use, say 200kms daily back and forth?

-Use quality fuel and put fuel the moment you see the warning light come on so you don't damage the pump and injectors
-Change oil every 10.000km and 50k km transmission oil change.
-Keep brake fluid clean, check the brake actuations to know how much life is left in the SBC and replace accumulator and brushes preventatively for peace of mind.
For us guys in Europe. Buy the 6 cylinders - facelift models. They made (if I am not mistaken) 4000 changes on the facelift. It is a bulletproof car. No one complains from the MY 2006+. No SBC, no bull...
bad 7-speed transmission
So the e240 would be a good choice?
i'm going to buy a e220 cdi estate 2008, i hope it will be good!!

so, does it have issues electronic wise?

REPLACE THE TIMING CHAIN @ 100K MILES or it will be an expensive time bomb
I have an E270 2004 Avantgarde, trust me the best engine ever it's 260.000km from all service history the only problem i've had was one injector leaking nothing, nothing and nothing after that... The high-end power is amazing, it's so hard to sell this car :(
I have absolut the same car i can confirm that and i would say its the most reliable (and I'm not the only one who says that) Diesel-engine of the w211 also cause mercedes spend alot of work to perfect this om647 engine.
sir can you please tell me what all parts you've changed on the engine side so far during your period of ownership

I'm getting an 09 can't wait!
Yep mine had the codes at 44700 miles and the repair was $6400 15% covered my MBUSA and the gear was nearly gone
marlb0r015 yea they're a great car
Hi
I’ve had an E-class E280 cdi.
This is a great video with the Men in Black clips!
If this car is good enough for Agent J and Frank.....it's good enough for me :-)
It was such a fun idea to add some comedy into this video (MIB 2), I like your facts! No bullshit, straight to the point and youre accent is very good, easy for the ears:)
One of the most reliable cars appart the SBC system of the brakes but if you buy from 2006 to 2009 the sbc is removed. owned it for 5 years not a single problem
I have a 2003 s211 220cdi with just 757 000km still feels like a new car to me
Thank you for the review. I have a 2009 E350 4 matic. Love it other than the 1995-99 E320 and 340 I believe this body style is the best looking.
What about the early E55 amg models 🥵
I have an 2003 E270 cdi with no major problems for the last 10 years of owning it with regular maintenance. Only thing i have ever replaced was the shocks, catalytic converter and littel cosmetic stuff like the roof lining coming off at the back.
sir can you please tell me what all parts you've changed on the engine side so far during your period of ownership
This helped alot, Just bought a 280 v6 today, now i know what to look for if trouble Come knocking
Hi. I have a chance to get a 2006 E280 V6 for a good price, how is it so far with it? Still happy? Had a 2009 C180 at some point but was really dissapointed with the quality of it.
great info on these mercs, im looking to buy one of these or an s class w220. your videos have been very handy .
AMG version never had a problem for 8 years.
Wow!
Had a E500 2003, from 150.000km to 200.000km pain in the ass...
Sbc broke (brake system) 1300$
Air suspension broke many times, spend around 2300$ to fix in 2 year it, at the end when it stil needed to be fixed the suspension for around 2500$ (sold in insteed of fixing it)
Converter broke (didn't wanna spend money sold it insteed but it was 4000$ to fix, yes 4000$...)
the engine mounts went bad 2 times, about 500$ to fix each time.
the wheel beerings whent bad about 2 times on each wheel, about 1300$ to fix in total.
They say the airsuspension is very comfortable, thats not true, cause your allways listening to sound any looking for potholes cause you know it will brake soon, and it wont be cheap to fix it.....
borisboogie because E class produced in USA is shit quality thats why in Europe you don’t hear much these issues what you mentioned
Produced in other countries for USA market coz usa cant produce shit german cars Italian cars are reliable no much issues if you take care for your car

I am planing of buying E200 compressor 2005, manual , what do you recommend ?
narrated by Borat? :D jk great and informative thx!!!
An excellent review, can't get anymore detailed than that!
Don't forget, some of the 3.5l engines had balance shaft issues. Check the serial number and or service records to be sure the car has been fixed or is unaffected.
facelifted 07-09 did not have those issues
ks10308 From my research, the 07-09 engines were arranged at 60 degrees while the older ones were arranged in 90 degrees. So the newer eliminated the balance shaft.
I checked mine before I bought it. It has been a wonderful car.
Great vid, you are very informed and knowledgeable. I have a 2005 V6 Diesel one and love it
Best years are 2004-2005 pre-facelift cars. Much less electronics, simpler engines, more reliable. SBC is not as big of an issue as it seems - 25 years warranty in the states, can get good used one for reasonable price in europe.
any word/thoughts/tips about 2002 E500 ?
I really have a feeling that you just point out all the electronic parts and put them in issues list, the same with engines. Yet, on this models, the only known problem so far has been ABS block in prefacelifted models, and G-tronic gear box on facelift models, and it's not even problematic, just needs good maintenance. And 5.5 NA engine on facelift is one of the best engines mercedes has ever built.
great vehicle
2 billion invested in engineering, and research
obviously its over engineered
but today, 2017
these cars are in every scrap yard
parts are cheap
easy to fix, and great to drive, period.

@R. Guardia Useful info. Which year model you got Sir.
Just bought e220 best car by far the quality is superb cant complain
The song Frank sings made this hole video worth it
MB is now giving a 25 year warranty on the SBC brake system. I have an 04 E320 that rides smooth as silk. I have had it 10 years now and the only thing that is disappointing to me is the poor quality/ workmanship of the
interior.
I am a victim of SBC ! Minus that everything was superb about that vehicle! Das best oder nicht _Benz!
I have owned the 2008 E550 for the past 3years in Nigeria.
Problems faced :
1. Airmatic suspension. I had to replace all to struts. The drive feels so good.
2. Seatbelt SRS alarms. I haven’t been able to fix that.
3. No one problem.
Ahhh Man you do the best reviews!!
Great video. Very helpful. Keep up the good work.
Face lifted models 2007MY + models have soft balancer shaft engine that are $$$$ to repair. These are the M272 3.5L engines. The issue was fixed sometime in 2007-2008 and there are websites out there to check by VIN if a car's engine is affected.
May I ask, was it the same issue for the M272 2.5L V6 version? 2008 onwards..
Danny Smith internet says all M272 engines up to a certain number of serial numbers, so I’m guessing it could affect the 2.5l as well
I own w211 2008 and w212 facelift the cars are awesome every mercedes is extra quality the only car which can last with milions kilometers without big problems
sir can you please tell me what all parts you've changed on the engine side so far during your period of ownership
Nice video, thanks. Talking about Mercedes, I personally believe that it's definitely a nice ride, but it costs a lot to maintain.
U r absolutely right
Funny because the one I had for 2 years cost me 2 oil changes and a 15 euro sensor lol
It was not expensive at all to maintain.
Beginning in 1981, I had them for 20 yrs. All were supplied new by my company. LOTS of problems. Never again. Yes, they were made in Germany and yes, maintenance was perfect. Incidentally, 2 arrived with factory defects.
I have a 2005 e200 for over a year,no issues at all except a coolant leak normal service
You forgot to mention rust on the rear arches. And the Valeo radiators that mix coolant with the gearbox oil, destroying the box.
Have an 04 E320 Avantgard edition.......quiet, comfortable and rides great but the interior materials and quality are bad. SBS brakes stop great but are troublesome. As mentioned the air suspension sooner or later will fail on you. Also the crank pin sensors go bad due to heat.
I had this for 8 years and was full of mechanical and electronic problems all expensive to fix - once the spring broke with no warning I had enough and sold it
Does anyone know the name of the rims @ 1:44 ? They look awesome
Hi all onboard i am looking for more info on E280 mercedes benz auto, what issues are common on this model 2007?
Great cars but the e350 V6 is a terrible engine with balanceshaft problems. Better go for the V8 which are very reliable.
I’m about to buy the v8 one from my neighbor in a couple weeks
Indeed, I do want a comfor-table car
I have a 320 CDI T 204hp 2004 combi the biggest problem I have with this car is airmatic atm and I get some water leaks I don't know from where witch is turning the car into something really bad I don't have V6 engine I have the better one 6 cylinder witch is better then the v6 and the power is still 204 hp I get low fuel consumption witch is great and the quality of the audio system is crazy Kardon is a great audio system if your looking to buy this car do it its easy to repair by yourself not that many electronics in it DVD/tv is great if you can find a good price with this options
with a huge bonnet like this, it is sure a comfor- table

well the W211 is generally more comfortable than the BMW, the BMW is more of a drivers car with more dynamic-steering, transmission and suspension, so it depends mainly on your personal preference

the best is to change it after 10 000 km / 6 213 mi, the dashboard should indicate it-as a service interval, but usually it indicates a lot later than this particular interval
