Thank you for the correct pronunciation of Greek. I’m a westerner who used to visit a Greek monastery - such a beautiful language! When I first heard western scholars pronounce it, it was painful. It still is.

Esta não é a pronúncia correta isso é igual ler o Latim clássico com a Pronúncia eclesiástica já no caso dos Etacistas é como Ler Latim Clássico com a pronúncia do Latim antigo(This is not the correct pronunciation, it is the same as reading Classical Latin using the Ecclesiastical Latin Pronunciation, in the case of Etacists it is like reading Classical Latin using the pronunciation of Old Latin)

@@showdojoaomarco471 To say that this is not the "correct" pronunciation is 1. False in actual reality and 2. Overly confident about supposed pronunciation reconstructions. It is absolutely not "incorrect" because it is how the Church who has been praying these words for almost 2,000 years actually says it.

    Our Father in heaven,
    Hallowed be Your name.
    Your kingdom come.
    Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
    And forgive us our debts,
    As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

A slightly better translation of ἡμῶν would be "of ours", which wouldn't break the syntax. Same with σου -> of yours.

Pater imon o en tis ouranis, ayasthito to onoma sou, eltheto i vasilia sou, yenithito to thelima sou, os en ourano ke epi tis yis. Ton arton imon ton epiousion dos imin simeron ke afes imin ta ofilimata imon, os ke imis afiemen tis ofiletes imon, ke mi isenegis imas is pirazmon, alla rise imas apo tou ponirou.
Every '' i'' is pronounced like ee as in the word bee
Every' 'ou' 'is pronounced like oo as in the word book
Γγ, is hard to represent it with Latin letters so I have written it as ' 'y' ' but its pronunciation is between y and g.
In the word' 'dos' ', d is actually pronounced as' 'th' 'as in the word that, but I didn't write th instead of d in order not to confuse it with other th, which are pronounced like in the word theater.

@@dimitrapl.9615 Is there a 'h' sound just before 'ayasthito'?

    • @OnTheThirdDay
      @OnTheThirdDay ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@EADGBe2002 Short answer: no.
Long answer: see the video, there is no h sound.
I learned from "Learn Biblical Greek" channel that in modern Greek the "rough breathing" mark is not pronounced and is there for historical reasons.
That guy says that the ' makes the same sound as the h in "honest" because it also makes no sound.

Totally brilliant to hear it spoken so beautifully. Thank you. This is most helpful and will help me as I study NT Greek. I love the way the words flow, and the almost sing-song nature.
An observation concerning 'as also we have forgiven the debtors of us....' the word used here is 1st pers pl pres ind act. In NA27, the word is in the aorist. That is, it is a one off event. The word used here, (sorry I don't have Gk font on my phone) 'aphiemen', indicates a singular event with continual effect.
I'm not in the least suggesting either word is wrong, who am I to judge, only to point out that there is a slight theological difference. My source is 'Bagsters Greek/English Analytical Lexicon, page 61, right hand column. (c) 1794.
