  • Hey Friends,
    Welcome to my Military furnished house tour of our home here on Naval Base Guam! It's a single story duplex located in the Bayview neighborhood. I know when we were deciding whether or not to live on base I struggled with finding updated videos or pictures of what the homes looked like. Hopefully this video helps someone like me. So whether you're a fellow Military spouse getting ready to PCS to Guam or just curious of what it's like to live on a military base overseas, this videos for you. Love you all, thanks for continuing to support my small channel! Don't hesitate to leave me a comment down below with any questions or video ideas you have.
    xoxoxo,
    Caitlin Herber

    Helped a friend move out of there back in ‘94 when they closed it down and moved us all to Andersen (where they built the golfcourse first, and the base around it 😆). The old housing was bad. Like, jalousy windows and first place I lived after moving out of my parents’ place bad. And that was the Officer housing. Shudder to think how crappy enlisted housing was. On a side note, when we got to guam there was a huge sign that said, “Coming soon! Kmart: Store of the Future!” 😳 Is Rotary Sushi still around? With the three different signs: Rotary Sushi, Rototory Sushi, and Rotorary Sushi? Loved that place. And Mai’s Thai next to Tower of London?

      I love hearing how the island has changed over time. They recently started moving family's into a new housing on Anderson. Kmart is very much so still around, very popular since Guam doesn't have many options lol. I've never heard of rotary sushi or Mai's Thai so sadly probably not around anymore.

    The last time I was on Guam was 1984, was just shy of 13 yo. I'm assuming y'all are stationed at Polaris Point!?
    Is North Tipalaio & South Tipalaio. (tip-a-lay-o) housing areas on base still being used? Is Old Appra Hieghts & New Appra Hieghts housing areas still in use as well?

    • @caitlinherber

      The neighborhoods currently still in use are North tip, harbor view, Bayview, Lockwood, and Apra (officer housing).

    Well organized. Very nice 👍 I'm surprised the door knobs are still being used, or have they been changed to lever types?

    Is housing by rank? Do they have separate houses for E7 and above?

    • @caitlinherber
      @caitlinherber  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's more so done by household size but rank can qualify you for a larger house. At least that's how it is here in Guam. My husband's an E6 but because we had no kids we only qualified for a two bedroom house in either the Bayview or Harborview neighborhood. Senior enlisted and Junior enlisted with more kids start at 3 bedroom neighborhoods. The only rank that gets separate housing is Senior officers. How this helps to answer your question.

    Omg this was so helpful, thankyou!😍 So we'll be heading to Guam next year, and I've totally gotta ask about the snake problem there, is it noticeable in the area where you live?😟🙈 That's honestly the biggest worry I have about moving to Guam😅

    • @caitlinherber
      @caitlinherber  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was totally worried about this too because everyone says they're out of control but I've only ever seen one on island in the year and a half we've been here and I've been hiking in the jungle many times. I wouldn't stress about it! On base is treated, they have traps set up on all the fences. Living off base I can't speak to though.

    How much is the rent? Is it cheaper to rent off base?

    • @caitlinherber
      @caitlinherber  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Being that we're a military family we don't pay rent to live on base & all utilities (water, electric, garbage) are taken care of. If you choose to live off base you get what's called OHA (overseas living allowance) & a utilities allowance to put towards rent & utilities. It's not always cheaper to live off base because the price of electricity here is insane. However, many families choose to live off base because houses can be more updated or spacious. It's really just a personal preference.
