Its when their not that I quit making up my own sort of reasons for inconsistencies.

When Padme was dying, she could feel Anakin dying too. She sensed her children would be protected by _Uncle Ben._ She wasn't aware yet that Leia would go with Bail, but she would be fine and as strong, or stronger than she was, as well. She knew one of them could redeem their father. She gave in to Palpatine drawing her life force to save Anakin. She felt the spark of goodness still in him.
Everyone has the Force. Some people are born with the door wide open. George creating the Midichlorians was his way of saying, People who have the door wide open have more of _them_ communicating with the Whills. An average person would have about 2,500-5,000 and someone who would be accepted into the Jedi Order would have to have closer to 7,500-10,000.
Plagueis thought a _Pure_ Force Sensitive would have 15,000 Midichlorians, but Yoda had almost 20,000. Padme, Han, Hondo, Sabine, even Chewie have a range between 5,000 and 10,000, but don't use their abilities like Jedi. They use them in different ways (until Sabine was trained). George teased Anakin had over 20,000 as Obi Wan states in the movies, but could have over 40,000.
_"It's off the charts!"._ ~Obi Wan

    • @chrisperlaky8715
      @chrisperlaky8715 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

@@skully5063 I'm not saying it's unreasonable on the part of an audience member. I'm saying it's contrived and terrible story telling (on Lucas' part) when the intention of the original dialogue was to indicate Leia remembered her mother beyond Force sensitivity. The idea of Padme dying of a broken heart when she just gave birth to twins is beyond ludicrous, but so is the idea of Padme's disbelief of Anakin killing younglings when he professed to killing an entire tribe of Tusken Raiders, specifically the women and children. Lucas was far too literal with the prequels, from wanting everything to tie up into a nice bow at the end to not giving the audience a chance to make connections that would otherwise exist through metaphor. The few metaphors that existed were poorly constructed at best and half-assed at worst.
Just focusing on the "love story", I would've preferred Anakin's attraction to Padme be expressed through a desire to teach her the ways of the Force. As Anakin fell to the dark side Padme would turn to Obi-Wan. He would continue her teaching beyond the loss of Anakin and the movie would end with them together on the Lars Homestead prior to her giving birth. It would have given Padme a lot more to do in Episode 3; would have added more meaning to Obi-Wan's line in "A New Hope" when he stated, "A pupil of mine..." which suggested Obi-Wan may have had more students than just Anakin; and could have implied Padme didn't actually die like Leia believed, but rather transformed into the Force like Obi-Wan.

Sorry but....what was the most insane Star Wars retcon, and why was it "insane"? I was wondering if I'd missed something more controversial, instead of something that we already knew from watching the movies.
I remember reading Splinter of the Mind's Eye when it was first published and just assumed that it was non-canon once The Return of the Jedi came out and confirmed that Darth Vader was indeed Luke's father. Then when Return of the Sith came out, I just assumed that Leia had mis-remembered someone who'd looked after her as a young child and believed that was her mother. So finding out this video is just about mention of Luke's mother in a non-canon novel just makes the video title a bit click-baity.

George Lucas always knew that Vader was Luke’s father. In the beginning he thought he would only be able to make one movie and thought that information was not needed. When he was making the empire strikes back he decided to go with his original idea. The original draft had a story with twins in it. In that draft Leah rescued
Luke. He was not sure to go with his original plan or not…. In the end he went to the first idea or concept of the story. George Lucas said: in the end that was the story and if the audience does not except it what can I do?

I actually just finished re-reading Splinter of the Mind's Eye for fun. I've enjoyed that book ever since my cousin introduced me to it. For some reason, this time my mind cast Michelle Yeoh in the part of Halla, lol. And yes, when it was written, very little was known about the galaxy far, far away. I just chalk off continuity issues to that, although it is pretty cool to see Leia try to fight Vader! Even though it's not canon, it's still a fun read, and I encourage folks to check it out.
The reference of Luke and Leia's mother that I didn't like was in the Legends book trilogy, "The Black Fleet Crisis", which suggested she was a member of the Fallanassi named Nashira. (SMH). Fortunately, this was invalidated in the third book when the Fallanassi admitted that she didn't really know, and that she'd met a woman named Nashira whose boy and girl were taken away from her, and she combined the two stories. (shrug)
I much prefer the canon version.

The Padme in the first two movies would not have died of sadness if she had two defenseless infants whom the bad guys would have been searching for. That Padme would have fought for her children and have gone into hiding with them.

Then, you go to a hell-world with his best friend to confront your husband, hoping you can figure this out, make sense of it or save him.
Then he tries to choke you to death. While you are still carrying his children.

I’m not massively into SW lore so I’d like to know if this has ever been officially clarified anywhere. There’re many pilots both human and non-human (and we know the empire isn’t too keen on non-humans) in the SW galaxy, presumably there’re non-imperial flying academies and Luke could’ve been planning on going to one of them?

R2 and presumably other astromechs seem to have far stronger encryption and are programmed to not blurt out secrets compared to protocol droids. 3PO is very chatty and offers up information without much resistance when he's pressured to do so. He freely let it slip to Luke that they were property of the rebellion and that the woman in R2's message was someone of great importance and on the ship they came from. He tried to act vague, but he likely would have revealed more if Luke had more aggressively pressed him to do so. Anyone who was really motivated to extract information from 3PO likely would be able to do so. R2 doesn't let slip such information voluntarily. R2 never informed either Leia or Luke about the truth about their father. He also refused to play back Leia's full holographic message to Obi Wan when Luke ordered him to do so. Tricking Luke into removing the restraining bolt with the promise that he would play the full version and then pretending as if the message didn't exist afterwards.

Anakin, in his anger, siphoned her life into himself to survive. And thus Bader was forever unable to completely turn to the Dark Side, as she was always with him in love abd survival.

I view the prequals differently than most, as a telling of stories narrated by someone who did not directly live or otherwise experience the events in question. Makes them more interesting than considering them 100% set in stone cannon.

I retcon con Disneys retcons because there retcons are not canon

    • @DarthTeaDious
      @DarthTeaDious 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Retcon means change the meaning of what happens, not avoid it and pretend it doesn't exist. Their Canon is The Canon. The movies are canon. What happens between them is more likely what will change people's minds about the problems they have with the sequels, just as they did with *The Clone Wars.* People had the same kind of problems with the prequels until they saw...
You don't have to throw the whole thing in the garbage because you didn't like a few scenes or a storyline of a character you thought would go differently. When we learn to separate the story from those preconceptions and conclusions drawn from the originals or the original ideas, we begin to see the bigger picture. It is quite a bit more nuanced than some fans think.
The ST was the way it was in large part because of the hate the PT received. Now the PT kids are grown and love it, and they didn't foresee that. The tone of Episode One is meant to be a bit more child-like to mirror Anakin’s own innocence during this time. It’s vastly different from the original trilogy because George’s vision is not a cookie-cutter series. Episodes 2 and 3 progressively get darker, more adult and more violent.
"Jar Jar is the key to all of this." ~George Lucas
Throwing the last Sith Lord down a reactor shaft isn't "bringing balance to the galaxy" as some people think. The Sith have been imbuing their essence into artifacts for millennia. Even if Palpatine were "unable" to return, there are so many Sith artifacts and teaching relics, they could return at any given time. Quite a few Sith imbued their essence into antiquities, such as masks, rings, weapons, monuments, etc. Every holocron, every aspect would need to be destroyed.
"If you define yourself by the power to take life, the desire to dominate, to possess...then you have nothing." ~Obi Wan
Anakin's first step was ending the way things were done in the Mortis realm. This isn't something he would do in one fell swoop.
Stories never end. They're just abandoned... for now.
Eventually, the stories will lead to Anakin coming back to show he is still, and always will be the Chosen One. George refers to Luke and Leia being the Chosen Ones at times because through Anakin, they are an extension of his work. So is Ahsoka. She is his padawan.
*There's always a bit of truth in Legends.* ~Ahsoka Tano
What happens between RotJ and TFA is comparable, but within George's vision, it is vastly different from Legends. I like to think of it as a vision or series of premonitions someone had of the future, and wrote them as prophecies. Palpatine still returns. in George's version, Luke still dies in TLJ (episode 8). Taryn or Kira, who becomes Rey in the final version, was compared to *Willard going up the river seeking General Kurtz* for training *(Apocalypse Now)* when George was helping work on the rewrites of his scripts with Michael Arndt and Lawrence Kasdan.
When they suggested they tone down the deep dive of The Whills and Midichlorians' microbiotic world, George got angry and stormed out. He claimed *"They aren't using my ideas,"* not that they threw the entire thing in the trash. With him no longer helping, they decided against using that part of his story treatments.
When we begin to see the whole picture, it becomes clearer, and we might begin to appreciate Star Wars for what it is. It may not lead to what I've described, but it is what it is, and we can appreciate it or deny it. It's up to us, and that's the best thing about a fantasy.
May the Force be with us all.

There's also another book that speak of Luke and Leia's mother. But she isn't Padme, Luke and Leia's mother was part of a tribe (if I remember correctly) similar to the nightsisters or lightsisters. Luke sets out to look for information about her, Leia wants no part of it. Luke learns a new force skill through meeting their mother's ppl

Splinter of the minds eye was never part of cannon even in legends or extended universe terms after the book of the empire strikes back mainly because it also contains a scene where Luke and Leia who at the time didn't know they were brother and sister became very intimate with each other while hiding from Darth Vader. After it was established that Luke and Leia were brother and sister it was taken out of the story to prevent the incest angle that the book would have created.

I am awaiting the day they canonize palpatine siphons padme lifeforce using her connection to anakin to heal "vader" it would be all the more saddening that vaders pained screams, and outbursts during his surgeries had some kinda impact on her state of being aswell. simply losing the will to live in post partum depression is one thing, but to actively die of that sadness seemingly without any signs of depression, I'd rather beliee that it wasnt just a deep dispair at what anakin had become, that led to her death, given moments before she saw two rays of hope come into the galaxy, and named them. that shows to me at least she had the will to go on, and "lost the will to live" is not be a valid explaination to how she died, given all we know of palpatine, the droids just couldnt make sense of the darkside magicks in play and all they could seem to detect is her clearly choatic emotional state (as anyone whos just given birth is, combined with all that has happened) followed by her death, and concluded this is the only reason that makes some sense.

In listening to the explanation of it and it being released in 1977 I am 100% certain that the author put his outlook of humanity in the book and it was all based on the Vietnam war, the clues are in Luke seeing that "humans war with each other everywhere" it's Hippy Dippy crap and stupid, a good author can put in allegory that reflects the world around them, a bad author puts their views into their writing. and I would 100% bet that Alan Dean Foster is a Hippy.
And I mean on googling to see if he's still around I learned he was a writer on Star Trek the Motion Picture. And I'm now betting that he was the one who included the whole Vulcan bits or the stuff with McCoy being some sort of hippy stand-in.

I just recently started watching your channel and for the most part I am a fan. I would like to point out one thing that might help a bit. You might need a new mic or at the very least try to reduce the tone a bit. It is hard to make out half of what you are saying and it is not your accent. It sounds like the tone is too much or perhaps to loud over everything else.

I mean, if you were a 19 year old raised in slavery before being sent to a monastery and actively sent on expeditions where your only company is another man then being told that you have to spend an indefinite amount of time with a girl you like, who also likes you, but has been focused on politics and is equally as unfamiliar as you. The feeling would be a bit awkward

I read that book not long after watching the original Star Wars movie. It was really lame. A bunch of scary set ups and useless letdowns. The story didn’t go anywhere. I knew it was not canon and so it really couldn’t develop in any direction without risking being overturned in the very next movie. This is the first time I’ve ever seen anyone reference it in any sort of semi serious way.
