Regarding the force choke thing - we don't see Luke making the choking/pinching gesture that Vader did - maybe it's a mind trick to make them think they're choking, thus why they react that way, without their airways being restricted like Vader's force chokes behave...
In the novellization Vader stopped Luke to kill the emperor because was "too soon", he could return to the light and his friends, so first he needed to be trained and corrupted by Vader and Sidious, and once he "freely" join the dark side... then let him kill the emperor and reign the falaxy with his father.

Here’s the actual scene in the novelization between Sidious and Luke regarding Yoda. It’s clear that unlike what the video said, Sidious clearly knew who Yoda was, and may have even been mocking Yoda’s speech pattern: The Emperor tapped his fingers on the arm of the throne, recalling. 'There was one called... Yoda. An aged Master Jedi... Ah, I see by your countenance I have hit a chord, a resonant chord indeed. Yoda, then.' [...] 'This Yoda,' the Emperor mused. 'Lives he still?' Luke focused on the emptiness of space beyond the window behind the Emperor's chair. The deep void, where nothing was. Nothing. He filled his mind with this black nothing. Opaque, save for the occasional flickering of starlight that filtered through the ether. 'Ah,' cried Emperor Palpatine. 'He lives not. Very good, young Skywalker, you almost hid this from me. But you could not.
My question is still what a New Canon Bothan looks like? I sort of want a Rogue One style movie showing the events of the Bothan Spynet getting the information for the Rebel Alliance.
The Tales of Jedi and Sith confirmed to us that Palpatine knew Yoda died in this film. He directly met Yoda’s Force ghost, and if I remember right, celebrated Yoda’s death on the eve of his ultimate victory.
The four dots was functional illiteracy. By Return of the Jedi, someone had pointed out that an ellipsis is three dots. They fixed it...but later decided that it's better to pretend they'd done four dots on purpose, not out of ignorance, so they went back to four.
24:54 In the novelization of Revenge of the Sith (either the Matt Stover or Patricia Wrede version, I can't remember) Emperor Palatine sees Vader with no arms and thinks "He'll never be able to use lightening" but makes a suit to make him look very intimidating.
"Why does Vader say that OBI WAN taught him well?" When Vader said this, he said as he looked up to Luke, taking a position on an elevated platform- high ground. Seeing Luke "take the high ground" was a lesson that Vader would likely assume was taught by Obi-Wan.
The idea of those scary ass monsters walking around Endor is genuinely so frightening. Imagine being one of those left behind Stormtroopers and hearing massive thumping footsteps in the dark. Damn.
When I asked a Star Wars aficionado friend of mine why Vader didn't use force lightning, he simply said, "You have to have hands to do it." Sounds reasonable to me!
27:47 “…and the two friends agreed to NEVER speak of that moment again” I like how Han and Luke had a real bro moment choosing to overlook “that” moment lol

I'm with you -- I never believed that the Emperor would have allowed himself to die. TROS only confirmed my long-term hunch about his character. For all of his posturing about the rule of two, Palpatine only truly cares about his power and self-preservation. I think he was merely goading Luke, he had no intention of letting Luke actually "strike him down"
To address the Endor vs Jaaku question. I see it like the difference between the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of Berlin in WW2. One was a major decisive fight that spelled out the outcome of the war, and one was a desperate last stand.
Choking problem. Luke used a mind trick to make the guards THINK they were choking. He dosnt use the thumb and finger choking gesture. Luke isn't above using a dirty trick even if he is above actually choking them.
I know the answer to the 3 periods question! It was a coffee print. The guy digitalizing the preplot-text was too messy with his coffee and misread the dirty page.
This is how I always saw it. Luke was holding back no punches. Especially at least to me learning that part of the reason why the jedi failed was because they there too conservative in some of their beliefs.

Esp since the troops on forest moon of endor were almost all scout troopers with significantly less armor.
There was a visual book back in 2005 that the reason why Anakins ghost was young is because that was the last time the force recognized who Anakin Skywalker was… and realistically Anakin died at 43 and Hayden Christensen is 42 and Hayden hasn’t changed much.
This such a great video format! I’m looking forward to the Sequel ones as Lucasfilm have done a really good job answering questions and fleshing out that era in the books.
Actually I saw an interview with Lucas on why he changed the scene from Sabastian Shaw to Hayden Christensen. It's because when Anakin became Vader, that is when he died... as a young man. This was from like 2004 or 2005.
A construction job of that magnitude would require a helluva lot more manpower than the Imperial army had to offer. I'll bet there were independent contractors working on that thing: plumbers, aluminum siders, roofers.
I’ve always imagined that Vader could channel Force Lightning thru his arm stumps, but if he had done it while wearing electronic prosthetics it would’ve destroyed the electronics. Perhaps if Vader was using purely mechanical arms (like many current prosthetics) he would be using Force Lightning all the time
I was skeptical this would be a bunch of obvious stuff, like “who played Wicket?”, etc. But as a 48-yr old lifelong SW fan (since 1978-79 at least), I learned a lot watching this. It’s entertaining as well, like SW Expl normally is…
I also think that Palpatine master plan to lure the rebellion in to wipe it out probably also involve the star destroyer fleet that was being equipped with miniature death star lasers on exgal But due to the actions of Crimson Dawn the second death star's exterior wasn't completed creating massive vulnerabilities once the shield was knocked out
You know, given how many dozens of times (or let's face it, more than that) i have watched the OT since the 80s, i am genuinely SHOCKED that I NEVER EVEN NOTICED that ROTJ only had three dots... 😮 Mind. Blown. 🤯 i can recite dang near every line. Totally missed the missing dot. 😢
I've heard two other explanations about Darth Vader stopping Luke from killing the Emperor. One is that he suspected that the Emperor wouldn't take the risk of simply counting on Vader to stop Luke and probably had some trick up his sleeve, thus he stopped him so they could take him out later when Luke had grown stronger. The other is that he wasn't convinced that Luke would simply fall down the path of the Dark Side by killing the Emperor at that particular moment and wanted to make sure Luke was fully turned before attempting to take him out.
When I was a very young kid I got the Luke Skywalker 12" action figure, and it came with a yellow light saber. (The smaller figures also came with yellow blades in Luke's saber, but my mother wrote a letter to Hasbro and got them to send her a package of replacement blasters and sabers, so we replaced Luke's yellow saber with a blue one. we were sticklers for the details even then.) I always wondered what that yellow blade meant, but it didn't mean anything back then. But my uncle knew were were talking about it, and he shoplifted a blue saber from a 12" Obiwan, and gave it to us for Luke. We had no idea he had stolen it. That was kind of shitty. He was a jackass.
I think the biggest question now is, who set up the bouncy castle at the bottom of the D star that palpatine so clearly landed on according to recent movies 😅
The funniest thing about these questions is that no one is taking into account that Lucas created plot holes, first within the original trilogy (episodes 4-6), and then with the prequels (episodes 1-3). The answers seems to be coming from sources that were written/created decades after the original trilogy was filmed, so taking information from "Star Wars- Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel" seems to be something that might not have been part of George Lucas' original story.
I think it would certainly be possible for Luke to have force choked those Gamorrean guards. It’s not uncommon for a Jedi to tap into the dark side and to use dark side powers. If you’ve ever played KOTOR you’ll know what I mean. Literally anyone can just pick up dark side powers like force lightning and drain life, it just costs more force points the farther in the light you are. Some Jedi like Mace Windu practiced Vapaad; where he would tap into the dark side while remaining firmly in the light. I really wish they made drain life and insanity canon force powers.
22:00 In re. B. Wings As a kid, (7 when Jedi premiered) I was a member of the SW fan club. I beleive that is where I got this poster. I might still have it but for now, I'm going off of memory. This was a drawn poster, showing the Attack on the Death Star at the top and the Endor moon at the bottom. (No credits, or even movie title. Possibly, it was drawn before the movie, as a teaser, like we needed one! LoL I never had a Kenner B-Wing and this poster had one. I'm guessing it was a trick of the angle but it made the Bottom of the B-wing, rolling on the End or moon, while the Upper portion of the ship was in outer space, giving the impression of a ship thousands of miles long! Since we could only watch the film on a t.v. / VCR, I never even saw the ship in the battle, which added to the confusion. I'm not saying anything besides, obviously that artwork was strange and impossible but does anyone remember this acid trip of a poster?? Would love to finally figure this out. Cheers
The dot question: The three dots is an elipsis, which stands in for omitted info. The forth dot is a period, totally seperate. The form is easily messed up though, and that's probaly what happened. It's fun to think that the sentence wasn't over yet . . .
These FAQ videos for each film have been great! One correction: The Gorax don't originate in Return of the Jedi concept art, they were made for Caravan of Courage. This is a common misconception with Ralph McQuarrie artwork. Much of it was made after the films' releases for marketing or licensing purposes, and is thus not "concept art" at all. In this case I believe the Gorax image comes from the 1995 book The Illustrated Star Wars Universe, which didn't simply take old McQuarrie art and repurpose it as interior artwork, but actually received many original illustrations from the man himself in collaboration with Kevin J Anderson's writing. Thus the Gorax artwork is McQuarrie matching the Ewok movie, not the other way around.
I always liked the idea that Red Leader, Gray Leader and Green Leader are not squadron leaders but wing leaders- i.e. Red Wing contains multiple squadrons including Rogue.

Ask Marty McFly's Mom 😻
They came from the same egg so she just wanted them to be one again.
I like to think that Rex and Nik Sant are close friends by the time of ROTJ and occasional switched uniforms to mess with new recruits to the Rebellion, sometimes even on the battlefront.
Nik Sant is Sant Nik. Better known as st Nicholas. Santa clause fought in endor.
@@Trebor74hence why I want him and Rex to be friends
...or maybe Nik Sant was a different character who didn't actually fight on Endor but was known as Fake Rex.
@@Compucles You mean like fake Wedge in episode 4?
Oh my god, I'd never seen the bearded guy there, what a genius backstory!
The Ewoks totally ate stormtroopers after the Battle of Endor. These are creatures that probably had to hunt for their food, and here they are being given a buffet.
Been enjoying this series of videos so much! Thank you for all the time and effort you are putting into this series!
I hope you'll do these FAQ videos not just for the films but also for the video games and perhaps some Legends stuff like Shadows of the Empire or the Force Unleashed.
Regarding the force choke thing - we don't see Luke making the choking/pinching gesture that Vader did - maybe it's a mind trick to make them think they're choking, thus why they react that way, without their airways being restricted like Vader's force chokes behave...
Then again, Vader does even move his hands when he chokes Admiral Ozzel and I’m pretty sure he does the Sam hand gesture as Luke when choking Padmé
23:24 an act of compassion AND picking him up and throwing him 😂
I'd love to see a version of this explained series but solely with Legends material.
Ewoks to Leia, "Hey, we ate this woman but here, wear her dress we kept!"
In the novellization Vader stopped Luke to kill the emperor because was "too soon", he could return to the light and his friends, so first he needed to be trained and corrupted by Vader and Sidious, and once he "freely" join the dark side... then let him kill the emperor and reign the falaxy with his father.
I love that the first point is about Max Rebo
Thank you so much for this it says a lot with so little about Return of the Jedi. I love your question about the dots at the end there as it made me smile.
" Lapti Nek " still rocks after all these years...
How did Jabba know that Boushe was not who he said he was? Cannon wise we don’t know, but in legends it’s explained that Bib told Jabba the he died some time ago.
Who says Jabba knew in advance? He didn't catch "him" until after Leia had freed Han and ditched her disguise, after all.
@@Compucles He had to have known in advance though! Threepio’s mouth was covered by one of the goons of the palace. To prevent him from speaking out, also the were all waiting for them. Which begs the question, how did he know.
@@woody6092 Yeah, they were covering C-3POs mouth after they had already figured out what was going on.
Meanwhile, it was his throne room. It's not hard to see Jabba and a bunch of his entourage always choosing to sleep there.
@@Compucles Threepio’s mouth was covered all the way up until the curtains moved. Implying that they were waiting for them. I’m just curious as to how they knew Boushe wasn’t who “he” said he was.
@@woody6092 Jabba had already realized what was happening before he moved the curtain. Otherwise, he wouldn't have had a reason to move it in the first place.
Here’s the actual scene in the novelization between Sidious and Luke regarding Yoda. It’s clear that unlike what the video said, Sidious clearly knew who Yoda was, and may have even been mocking Yoda’s speech pattern:
The Emperor tapped his fingers on the arm of the throne, recalling. 'There was one called... Yoda. An aged Master Jedi... Ah, I see by your countenance I have hit a chord, a resonant chord indeed. Yoda, then.'
[...]
'This Yoda,' the Emperor mused. 'Lives he still?'
Luke focused on the emptiness of space beyond the window behind the Emperor's chair.
I think the battle of Taanab is mentioned in Mando too. So something happened there. Imperials are involved.
"Why does Vader say that OBI WAN taught him well?"
When Vader said this, he said as he looked up to Luke, taking a position on an elevated platform- high ground. Seeing Luke "take the high ground" was a lesson that Vader would likely assume was taught by Obi-Wan.
I love these FAQ's!!!! Nice job, Alex 😊
Owen being Obi-Wans brother makes a lot more sense.
The idea of those scary ass monsters walking around Endor is genuinely so frightening. Imagine being one of those left behind Stormtroopers and hearing massive thumping footsteps in the dark. Damn.
Great video. Thanks.
I always wondered if Leia saw the Force Ghosts at the end of Return of the Jedi.
Man this is why I love Star Wars
When I asked a Star Wars aficionado friend of mine why Vader didn't use force lightning, he simply said, "You have to have hands to do it." Sounds reasonable to me!
27:47 “…and the two friends agreed to NEVER speak of that moment again” I like how Han and Luke had a real bro moment choosing to overlook “that” moment lol
I hope we get a Rogue One for the many Bothans who died to bring the intel on the Second Death Star.
Manny Bothans* The hero.
Pointless since it was orchestrated
@@androognoix1685 So was the entire Clone Wars, but that doesn't make it any less compelling
@@mitwhitgaming7722 it would also be repeating rogue one
@@androognoix1685 I mean, if you wanna make that argument then pretty much all Star Wars media is the same because they recycle a lot of the same ideas.
Would the Emperor have actually been killed by Luke if Vader hadn't blocked the strike? Is the Emperor willing to let himself be killed to let a more powerful Dark Lord take the stage, did he have a trick up his sleeve? Is that trick Exegol? Would he have died in body? What was the endgame?
Somehow, Palpatine has returned.
The missing dot was an easter egg spoiler for Episode VII, "Return of the Dot".
I know the answer to the 3 periods question!
It was a coffee print. The guy digitalizing the preplot-text was too messy with his coffee and misread the dirty page.
I always saw Luke force choking the guards at Jabba’s palace. I never gave it a second thought. 🤷🏻♀️
This is how I always saw it.
Luke was holding back no punches. Especially at least to me learning that part of the reason why the jedi failed was because they there too conservative in some of their beliefs.
Sidious died on Death Star II…
I really hate how there's no timeline in which he did
Even before Disney he survived the Death Star.
@@Gamma_249and even then it wasn’t as important it was more a side project Palpatine had that didn’t work and was dealt with fairly fast and it doesnt completely shatter the end of Rotj
Guys we found someone who hasn’t seen the sequels yet
I really love the idea that it was Captain Rex being in Return of the Jedi, still fighting the good fight with the Rebellion against the Empire on the forest moon of Endor😃
Having not known the identities of the band in Jabba's palace, the sentence "but Max, Droppy McCool, and Sy Snoodles still made it to safety from the explosion" is one of the funniest things I'd ever heard.
Ive seen ppl question how ewoks hurt storm troopers with clubs, spears and rocks, but ive always thought of ewoks as being extremely strong. Imagine a chimpanzee with a baseball bat. The blunt force they could generate would easily break bones right thru storm trooper armor because its not a contained suit. Its a bunch of modular pieces. Esp since the troops on forest moon of endor were almost all scout troopers with significantly less armor.
Tubes that allow heat from the Death Star to escape? Someone forgot to told Lucas, that there is no air in the space to carry out the heat
There's an Air in Space Museum...
I'm not even supposed to be here today 😂
Hey Mr Saltine 👷🏼♂️
I’ve always imagined that Vader could channel Force Lightning thru his arm stumps, but if he had done it while wearing electronic prosthetics it would’ve destroyed the electronics. Perhaps if Vader was using purely mechanical arms (like many current prosthetics) he would be using Force Lightning all the time
Thank you for including your sources and differentiating between legends and canon.
😮
Mind. Blown. 🤯 i can recite dang near every line. Totally missed the missing dot. 😢
Is it missing, though? See my post on another comment for more.
I learned a lot of new facts!! Great video!!
When I was a very young kid I got the Luke Skywalker 12" action figure, and it came with a yellow light saber. (The smaller figures also came with yellow blades in Luke's saber, but my mother wrote a letter to Hasbro and got them to send her a package of replacement blasters and sabers, so we replaced Luke's yellow saber with a blue one. we were sticklers for the details even then.)
I always wondered what that yellow blade meant, but it didn't mean anything back then.
He transferred his consciousness to a clone of himself. According to some books.
Keep slaying it man! My favorite channel.
I’m really loving this series, I hope to see more
Appreciate all your hard work.
The "Forest Moon of Endor:" A) Where is the planet it was a moon of and B) Is Endor the moon's name or the planet's name?
To be fair, the original ROTJ did not have Hayden Christiansen as the ghost
Actually, last of the Jedi could mean the last one trained as a Jedi. He could mean that Luke is the last to be trained by an official jedi.

In re. B. Wings
As a kid, (7 when Jedi premiered) I was a member of the SW fan club.
LoL
I never had a Kenner B-Wing and this poster had one.
Cheers
The dot question:
The three dots is an elipsis, which stands in for omitted info. The forth dot is a period, totally seperate. The form is easily messed up though, and that's probaly what happened. It's fun to think that the sentence wasn't over yet . . .
Leia wasn't talking about Padme when she said she remembered her mother. The only mother she knew would be Mrs. Organa
I always assumed the debris from the Death Star burned up in the atmosphere.
Grogu has to be Yoda and Yaddle's son. That has to be the big twist at the end of the Mando series.
Great video as always :).
I always liked the idea that Red Leader, Gray Leader and Green Leader are not squadron leaders but wing leaders- i.e. Red Wing contains multiple squadrons including Rogue.
How did Lando know the Death Star shield was still up?
Loving these videos!! I hope you do the Clone Wars movie too someday, once the live-action movies are done 🥰
I remember watching Star Wars explained once and he didn't know that there was a novelisation of that movie I'm not sure he ever read it since then.
I had no idea the Emperor's throne room was a spire on the second death star. Now it makes me wonder if an x-wing could've just crashed into it at any point.
I always assumed that Luke and Leia were posted up at the edge of the known galaxy at the end of ESB, and were looking in at it.
Would love to see a 18+ slasher movie with Ewoks hunting imperials like the Predator, and eating their victims 😂
I truly never thought about them eating humans until you pointed it out. As a kid it never occurred to me that Han, Like etc were actually going to be dinner that night for the tribe...pretty grim 😮
I’ve always wanted to know why they don’t fix the Ewok eyes in the updated version. It makes me nuts seeing the human actors.
