BRAVE or INSANE? Playing RUSH E Four Hands in Public By Ear | Cole Lam 15 Years Old

- So for those that have been watching my videos recently, I did an Omegle session a couple of weeks ago, and one of my friends from school Patchubun realised I was on Omegle and came on and played Rush E - • Challenged To Play RUS... . He then challenged me to play it by ear! Well, I just about did it - not great, but it's not an easy one to do. Well @SheetMusicBoss commented, and threw down a challenge to do it properly on video! It's not quite a Fanchen level challenge but I will do it, but not yet. It's an honour to be challenged by SMB, so I have to do it properly to do it justice.
Anyway, last weekend, after my music exam, I went out to London for a day out and Patchubun also came out to meet me at St Pancras and we thought it would be good to just have some fun on the pianos. Well, Patchubun decided to play Rush E, and I thought as I needed to learn Rush E anyway, why not just learn it live in public by ear!
Patchubun is a really talented pianist, so I knew he would be able to handle me jumping on the piano with him. We had not practiced, and he did not know I was going to jump on, as I did not know that too until I decided to! See how he had to shuffle across as I came in? We were doing four hand stuff earlier so he realised then I was coming in and adjusted! So what happened was our first ever improvised four hands Rush E as we had never done it before! It was a bit messy, but loads of fun.
After that, we did other songs and covers, and thought to try it again, but actually start sitting down in position. By that time, since I did it that first improvised time and I started to remember back from the Omegle session, it was already "better" in my head so hopefully it was a little better the second time? The end was still a mess (sorry Patchubun!) as I still don't know how it is meant to end. Patchubun is really talented so follow him on his Tiktok on patchubunscat!
I will take up the challenge from Sheet Music Boss, but want to spice it up a little - so subscribe to make sure you see what happens when I actually do the Rush E challenge!

A delight to see and hear. I just can't imagine how you can pick up such a complex piece by ear and play it almost perfectly together. My guess is that your audience suspected they were seeing and hearing greatness. Little did they know they were witnessing some of Purcell School for Young Musicians best. Nice to see you having fun entertaining the masses.

The tuning is off, I also noticed that.
I just guess this takes some kind of hyper level concentration and muscle memory. It was surely interesting to watch this being played on spot, in public and by four hands. Hats off to both of you.

Edit: I know there were mistakes but they made it through it and its still really cool. Also as humans we all make mistakes so people fighting in the comments please stop the notifs are getting annoying -_-

Ive noticed that there were numerous mistakes on the first attempt but it was played very well too! The second attempt was played even well, even though the last part got messed up it was still great

Cole, this was amazing and loads of fun. I, of course, was not familiar with Rush E, but when I realized speed was involved, I thought about your playing the cat and mouse tune and knew you could of course handle it. This one had me smiling all the way through. Thanks for posting it. I really like Patchubun but I haven't really gotten into Tiktok yet, so maybe he has or will have a YT channel. Anyway, thanks again to both you and Patchubun, and aa,Lyb,ssah. Just a P.S., don't be shocked if this one gets about 20 X more views than you expected, could go viral, imho.

I like how you can tell when he understands more depending on how much movement his overall body is doing! Also wanna say really impressive man! As a person who’s similar age as you (2008), and playing since 6 years ago, I know that’s hard to learn, let alone in 2 attempts.
You guys were great! Playing by ear AND adapting to doing it as a duet. The difference between the two performances with practise made me smile, who needs perfectionism when you can see people evolve in real time. 😊

THAT WAS TRULY FANTASTIC COLE, You two really must record some more music. it doesn't need to be in a challenge like Rush E was. I am sure that your could collaborate on some numbers that the crowds at St Pancras Station would recognise instantly. There is no doubt about it, Pachubun is as talented a pianist as you it would seem (as if any of us ever dreamed that was possible). Is Pachubun younger than you? If so, he is particularly good but even if he is older, he clearly is going to become a star, just like you will. More please "The Cole and Pachubun Show"

Try it. Find a song play what you know and deliberately play something slightly different but based on the song. It's quite fun to do.
