Apologies for the background noises being accentuated during recording. I had an external mic setup but it was not engaging unbeknownst to me. Hopefully, I will do better next time. After watching the video, feel free to share how you feel about the increasing food prices in Trinidad and Tobago. Do you feel some supermarkets and groceries charge ridiculous prices?
Hey JB , hope all is well ! Watching the storms brewing in the Atlantic, hope they stay away from all of us … I changed my handle … I like it 😊Hope all is well with you and your fam 💐🇹🇹
Great video. Food prices have skyrocketed all across the globe, and salaries remain the same. That supermarket where you filmed was well-stocked and the isles are spacious. As you've stated, one must shop smart. Some might say that checking different supermarkets for bargains might be tedious, but it can help a great deal.
if you have a vehicle to drive around carrying goods from one location to another that will make sense. but for many on the lower income strata who travels that wont be feasible. one of the flaws of the theory of perfect competition.
Hi JB, I'm in Trinidad right now. Yes the prices in the grocery is high, and when you buy food at restaurants the prices are high. But I also think that the prices in the U.S. has raised a lot since Covid and never went back down. P.S. love to see a supermarket with wide aisle and clean.
@@JBsManCave you’re very welcome ~ apologies, we were watching a 911 Memorial, got caught up…. .. will catch you on your next one ~ all the very best 💐💕
If i was living in Trinidad i would be growing my own fruit and vegetables in every available space i have in my garden. You guys are blessed with all year-round growing weather!!!
I live in Trinidad and Tobago and I certainly do have a kitchen garden to help keep food costs down. In addition I sell plants and some produce to assist me in getting the inputs that I need in keeping me food secure.
@@adamsamuel8593 I understand but if in the week that is Monday to Friday you spend 2 hours a day in your kitchen garden and on weekends you spend more time you will start to see your food cost go fown. In addition you are getting a whole body workout and eating less toxic vegetables, fruits and seasoning herbs. Get the family involved and be healthy!
Amazing I would say. I felt like I was watching an American supermarket. Yes, the prices are atrocious but I imagine that most of the imported stuff comes from the USA. I have never seen a lot of those brands. They have everything and much, much more. Well stocked, well displayed and clean. Thanks JB.
Excellent video! I really appreciate that you took the time to show us the prices. I have recently been to the Turks and Caicos, which is another Caribbean island and the prices were ridiculously high. Tobago is still really affordable compared to most Caribbean islands.☺️
Nice Market very spacious. It have a wide variety of stuff for people who are on a tight budget and people who can afford the expensive products I will advice people who are on a tight budget buy the local brand products that is cheaper and only buy the imported stuff if it on sale
Great Video JB !! This is also a great idea for your channel to show us prices of food in TnT. I am in the U.S. and just seeing the prices and remembering what it use to be back in the day makes me want to cry. My sister says that those prices were good compared to the groceries in the south where they shop. JTA etc. Thank you for doing this one for us, it was really informative!! p.s. good to see your face too! 😉
we used to have lots of substitutes in and around our homes/ communities but following American lifestyles means that we are dependant on imports and therefore held hostage to price fluctuations abroad.
I am looking forward to seeing this particular video. I left TnT FIFTY YEARS AGO for 'GREENER and MORE ACCOMODATING PASTURES'. Back then the US Dollar was worth $1.80 in TT Dollars. Today the TT Dollar is just about WORTHLESS - like Monopoly Money. So I can only begin to imagine the detrimental effect this must be having on the cost of both imported and domestic goods, especially food which seems to be very volatile in its price stability. I will be waiting and watching JB! Thank You my friend.
Glad you are looking forward to it. Yes, prices are very high. The supermarket I am in is one of the few that try to be as reasonable as possible. Even so, the salaries do not match the cost of living. I know some will try to calculate in US$ what an item cost and say it is a 'normal' price but I hope they know that salaries here are 75% LESS than the US so the cost of living is higher.
Hi. Trinidad prices seem expensive compared to the uk. Those cans of corn at beginning work out as £0.84 each on deal. That is double the price of corn here, your cabbage is also ridiculously high Your peppers and pumpkin are quite alot cheaper though
Is this a whole sale super market JB? It reminds me of a super market we have in New York called BJ's wholesale super market. And yes food prices in America has gone up too. That's why most people in America are relying on food stamps. I am not ashamed JB. but guess what? it helps. Maybe some time in the near future Trinidad and Tobago might be thinking along those lines. JB are the super markets back home charging customers for plastic or paper bags? I know in most countries the trend has already begun. The cost of living has gone up in most countries. Again many thanks.🇹🇹
Westbees is definitely better than a lot of supermarkets in Trinidad. This is why we need to support local and smaller business more often...the conglomerates here are far too greedy with the price gouging

Good advice. Thanks for your input.
That is an amazing produce section. I have not seen such a spread. Do they usually sell out these goods, or is there any spoilage?
When there is a deal it is a 'get it while you can' scenario. However, vegetables do have a relatively short shelf life in any case.
