Retired mechanic here. If rebuild is as much as a used van, I would go with the rebuild. Then you know what you have. A used van could possibly have problems also. Then you have the cost of the van, repairs, and the build out.
100% agree on rebuild vs new used vehicle. I'd also want to know if the transmission in your current van is in good shape, and what the expense and availability would be for replacement, just in case. It would not be good if you paid for a rebuilt engine, only to have the transmission fail and find out fixing it too was impractical. Just a thought.
An engine rebuild is on average between $2,500 and $4,000. Given the cost of a build out, I would think an engine rebuild is the most economical solution. If it is not an economic driven decision then go where ever your heart guides you. You could travel overseas for a time, build out a van you can stand in, try a truck camper … where ever your heart pulls you towards. Good luck in your decision making process. You’ve got this!
Dee, whatever you choose to do, I hope you don’t quit TH-cam. People follow influencers not because what they do, but who they are. Whether you’re living in a van, a tent, an apartment, or if you’re just wandering around sharing your thoughts… people came to your channel because of your personality. You are also a creative person, I’m sure people would tune in just to see you make some natural lotion or something. All will be well.
Change your mechanic! Your van is not that old, Ford Transit Connects are ubiquitous. There are countless 1000s of spares, including reconditioned engines all over the place. Plus, it should normally mean a head replacement rather than a whole engine swap. That said, a well-priced whole engine can be easier/cheaper to swap-out. Often, garages will scare you away from a job they don't fancy doing. And, I hate to say this, but have a male car-savvy friend take your van in, or at least accompany you when seeking work/quotes. A Lady friend of mine got quoted £500 for work they quoted me £180 for! That all said, I'd love to see what you would do with a vehicle interior that was big enough to stand-up in.
So, you are very wrong. There are NOT many in junkyards. We have one of the largest yards in my state. They only have 3 Transit Connects. My friend sold them one that was rusted out and very poor condition. They have him $1200 (serious money) because the the parts are hard to come by and are valuable. E Series are everywhere. They have 85 of those.
So true! I once needed a headlamp for a van I drove. When I asked at a gas station/garage the guy told me it would be $50 if he even has ‘a set’. I went to Walmart and bought one under $15 (it was long ago)…borrowed a screwdriver and made a point of going back for gas in a few days. He would’ve charged me $100 plus ‘labor’ 🥴 Side note to the story: I was traveling in the south. I’d asked, on the CB radio to borrow a screwdriver. I reached out with my right hand to accept the screwdriver and the man switched it to his left hand and shook my hand 😍 I like southern gentlemen! 💜 He wouldn’t think of expecting me to do it in my own 🤭🤭 💜
Unfortunately you're so right. Women are taken advantage of. I had a lady friend with a Cadillac CTS who was told by her dealer it would cost her $200 to change a directional light bulb because they had to remove an under body panel. The "panel" in question was the plastic fender skirt. I popped the first 2 plastic plugs/rivets, slid my arm in, felt the light socket, pulled it out, changed the bulb and replaced the socket and the plugs. Task completed in less than 15 mins.
If van life is in your heart and you're not ready to leave it behind, then my suggestion would be to get another vehicle. If she is old enough to be having problems finding what you need now, it's only going to get worse as she continues to age. How fun and exciting it would be to go on a new adventure with you building out a new or new/used vehicle. I think you would feel a new lease on life having a new project and having perhaps a bit of bigger space would be awesome for you. Even though I do not do the van life, it is something I'm keeping on the back burner as a possiblility down the road. I have been watching your channel for a couple of years and really look forward to seeing you and your light. Keep on shining Dee...you're a gift. 💝🌞
I agree . This seems to be the exact time to restart your van life in a newer , more reliable vehicle and with a bit more space. Imagine how beautiful you could kit her out! I have been inspired by your lovely designs and have used some of your ideas in my own mini van here in New Zealand. The adventures and lovely friends still await you.🙂
Dee, I know I have never and will never meet you, but I have to tell you right now, you’ve been an inspiration for me. I bought a tiny van because of your channel. The first time I ever stealth camped, I sat in my van and said to myself ‘If Dee can do this, I can do this!’. I genuinely mean that, you’ve helped a stranger through a scary time. We’ve seen enough of you now to know that you’re a deep, resilient soul. I think it’s time for you to find a new home, a new vehicle; as one door closes, another will often open, in a way that has made me believe in fate before. It’s not up to us here on youtube; it’s up to you and I don’t think you’re ready to leave van life yet. I hope to see you soon, in a new chapter of your life. Love to you from across the pond x
Dear friend, you seem young enough to continue doing what you love, at 63 I'm getting ready to do this myself. I would recommend a second opinion on the mechanical side, just to be sure you have a safe vehicle. And then continue on doing what you love. Take care my dear, ❤❤
I'm a retired mechanic ..just came on to ur vid as i was scrolling .... A valve issue is NOT a reason for a engine rebuild !!!!i dont know what u drive...but a oil & compression test will determine the overall health of your motor...a top end removal of the head is not a big job...the shop should be able to have cly head redone at machine shop..reinstall ..& on your way ...hope it all works out....cheers from canada .
First, make a decision if you truly want to continue van life or not? If the answer is not, then you have to go in a totally different direction. If the answer is yes, you want to continue, then you have options. My first thought would be to get a second and even a third opinion. This could save you thousands of dollars depending on what you decide to do. If you decide to keep doing van life and you want to do it in your red man, but you don’t have the money, then I would start a go fund me page. This could give you the economic stability you need to get it fixed properly. Especially if you’re going to need a new transmission or anything else repaired. If you don’t want to do a go fund me page then I would see if I could stay with a friend or a family member while I save some money to repair the van. I know a lot of people that have had to do this. They go live with her mom for a year or they go live with her sister for a while until they can save the money they need to make the repairs. You could take the chance to get a used new to you man, but like other people already said, you could just be buying a whole bunch of other mechanical problems that you don’t even know about. Then you’d have to do a go fund me page to get that van fixed. Unless you have plenty of money to do whatever you want, then you do whatever you want to do!! 🤗💕
Machines wear and break. This is an inflection point, not a barricade. If you have a solid chassis under your build, decide whether you wish to change up or stay with the familiar. I do vote with the proponents of a fix, rather than lateral trade. This is an opportunity to decide if you want to shake things up. Somebody is going to put a fresh head in that van and head out on the road. We can kibbitz, but you must decide your path.
I am so glad that you are okay!! I believe that when God closes a door he also opens a window. So, maybe this is a time for you to decide what is best for you whether it is just to replace your sweet van, upgrade, or even quit and find adventures elsewhere. My selfish self hopes that you continue with your videos, but I know sometimes one just needs a change. I can just imagine all the great ideas you will have for a new travel vehicle.🙃🙂 I will definitely watch! Thanks for the update. I too was hoping everything was okay with you. I hope you rented a minivan or suv for your trip so you can see if you like camping in one of those vehicles. Safe travels and thank you so much for your videos!! Can't wait for your next one!❤
Also what you can afford not looking to your subscribers for there financial help not saying that is what your doing right out... Things happen for a reason and you have to figure out for yourself why now. We are all living in the same evil world and it is hard for all people to make ends meet. Many you tubers have realized while there is still time to plant roots as they can and get off this ride. After the next couple of months this life as we now know it is gonna be changed. Search your true circumstances and make your decision from there. Many blessings.
Absolutely. If you want to get off the road, then do. If you don't want to get off the road, I hope you can find a way to stay out vanlifing. And I understand the tears. I built an old SUV out as an adventure vehicle and I love him. My kids think I'm crazy, but it was the first thing I built all by myself and he allows me to be so free. I hope you can find whatever will allow you to keep feeling free.
1) You're not ready to quit. 2) Quitting doesn't become you. 3) You had to know that this was going to happen eventually so embrace the change. 4) Get back on a new horse and keep riding my dear! ❤️
I dont know who YOU are but I needed to hear those words too. I'm facing health AND employment issues. Thank God for my family, Dee and you, SouthernFried 😊 (I live in SE Va)
Please do not toxically guilt someone into not “quitting” That is one of the most toxic mindsets. It’s ACTUALLY called ending one chapter and opening other. It’s also called knowing when something isn’t working for you any more. Knock it off.
Oh for the love, we all know that vehicles have a shelf life. You have the shell and the build, if it were me I would get a new engine as it would cost less than buying another vehicle and do a build out.
What always seems to stand out in my mind is that it is getting too dangerous for women to be alone on the road in a van, bus etc. The world has gone from somewhat normal to madness.
@@MsDani899I used to travel in my van during summers. My job, at GM would lay us off in May and call us back in September for model changes. I had safety rules I wouldn’t break based on ‘feeling’ safe. Life is full of risk. I’d rather take reasonable precautions and live than to be as safe as possible. It’s worth it to me. Some of my safety rules came at a price of learning the hard way, but some of my best memories…which far outweigh the negative, are also with me forever. Just saying… 💜
Hello, I have never commented on any of your videos but.. This is not the end of your journey. This is not even a detour. This is still 100% of your journey. You have a great following; I am certain most will follow wherever your journey goes. I of course, have no clue about your financial situation, but hopefully, your PAYPAL link is getting slammed because that is what a community does for one another. I am sorry for what you are going through. This very thing is my biggest concern. I am 51 and disabled. I have my house up for sale with the goal of buying a rig and being a nomad. This is something I have forever let things like work and family keep me from doing. Now it is time I take control of my journey and enjoy what little my poor body can enjoy before my deadline sneaks up on me. You are a strong woman, I am willing to bet whether it is on or off camera, your journey is still going to be full of happiness, joy and hopefully good health! I hope your sister's surgery went well.. Have fun with this new leg of your journey!
Thank you for sharing a bit of your story with me. It encourages me. I know I am not done with vanlife. It is just a matter of knowing which direction to take. I feel like I almost have too many possibilities to imagine 😝
I want to acknowledge that you are going through a huge, multifaceted loss. Saying goodbye to a car that is connected to so many memories, each with its own precious significance and meaning, does warrant grief - and grief is grief, no matter what we are grieving. Take a small piece of her and save all of her energy in it; that way, she will always be with you. Sending you all the love and healing in the world. Don't make any decisions until you have grieved the loss and you can think like your usual, wonderful self.
If fixing the little Transit by rebuilding or buying a new engine is worrisome because you think there will be many expensive fixes to follow due to the age of the vehicle, that is a legitimate concern. If you still want to participate in Van life, and you can afford to upgrade and you have the energy to do another buildout.....then DO it!!! No problems, easy solution. I'm guessing there are other issues I'm not aware of that are making this decision so hard. Only you can answer the questions since you know all the constraints you are working under. I wish you the best of luck figuring all of this out.
Yes, there is emotional attachment. My mom died a few months before I got this van. The whole ladybug thing is because it was my mom’s favorite little creature. And when I was looking for a van, and found this one, a ladybug landed on me. And I felt my mom’s presence. It may sound silly. But it was very meaningful. I’ve told the story here. And those who know are the ones ‘getting’ why this has been so emotional for me. A lot to consider. The input is helping me process and see if I’m basing my decision just on emotion or good reasoning. 🤗
@LadyBugout money isn't happiness. If you love it and it has a beautiful reminder of your mother then I would fix it if possible. If this van makes you happy we'll happiness is everything. Blessings to you on whatever you decide.
@@LadyBugout Thanks for the background. I now have a better understanding. I think your rig is outstanding, one of a kind, so beautiful and functional. If you sell it with a bad or questionable engine, you will have to heavily discount the price to compensate for the unreliable engine. If you have the means to fix the engine (re-build or used or new crate engine modified to fit this vehicle) you can continue to exercise your passion of RVing and keep the emotional connections to your mom that it provides and if/when you decide to sell, you will get more for it due to the engine rebuild/replacement than if you sold it with the questionable engine. You won't get everything back re: cost of repairs; more like 40% to 20% back depending on the route you go and the condition of the rest of the van when you sell. The grieving process takes a long time. Is the Transit extending that process or helping you through it? Follow your gut instead of your brain or heart and you'll make the right decision. No matter your choice you'll have some second thoughts or regrets so be ready to fight those off when they come. Also know that nothing is permanent. If you keep the Transit and then realize it's not helping you....sell it. If you sell the van and then realize you have to have an RV....buy another one that you can afford and start all over.
Blessings on your journey of an unexpected fork in the road. Take time to honor all the gifts of the ending road. It’s important to be in gratitude for all the experiences before you step into the new adventure of your next road. Everything changes. Small one are more easily navigated. Big changes bring up big attachments we have. Be gentile with yourself, there are no mistakes here, only learning about ourselves. Much love on your journey Dee! 🥰🖖
Dee I'm just pleased your not ill. Just go with your heart, you clearly are not ready to quit, so get lady bug out repaired. Good luck with whatever you decide, your subscribers will be there. 💚
I’ve learned from my recent studies of Buddhist and Stoic philosophy about impermanence. In life change is inevitable and at times uncomfortable. When we attempt to resist change we increase the pain. It appears that you’re accepting this change as best you can under the circumstances, and you’re logically evaluating next steps. Because it’s your future, not ours, I will respect whatever decision you make as best for you. Thank you for sharing parts of your journey with us. You’ve been a light and a delight to many, myself of course included. I look forward to hearing your decision and wish your sister the best in her recovery.
I am in the process of "no-build" upfitting a Nissan NV200. I dropped it off for service the other day and happened to notice one at the dealer for less than $15K. It is used, and like all other micro cargo vans, has been discontinued. Anyway, there are still good used vans out there. Don't quit. Truthfully, you have been hugely inspirational for me. My "build" is based on your build. Your van is so soothing and pleasing inside. You can easily replicate it in another van. Don't quit.
Having watched most of your videos over the past three years I can say the ones that I enjoy the most are when you are bringing us on one of your decision making journeys. That being rebuilding, downsizing, living on the road, tackling health issues, discovering new things. Your ability to open your life journey with us and opening our eyes to alternative ways of thinking or doing things is what has kept me interested. All that being said if you believe the next phase of your journey is outside rebuilding a van then take us along on how you make that decision and what is your next passion. You are an excellent teacher and advocate for self sufficiency, personal discovery, and adventure in the every day human experience. Take us along.
You are a positive resilient woman...this is a hiccup. You have offered us so much on your journey. That is such a tough decision. I sold my camper car last year because the batteries were unreliable. Getting another used car concerns me, because you don't know what has caused someone to sell their car. Tough decision. It's always fun to see the creative ways new buildouts are done. I believe this is a nudge for you AND US!!! Please let us know how your journey changes. ❤
Dee, I am in a similar situation after 15 years of traveling with "ALF" ... at 80 and with health issues AND mechanical ones too, I fully appreciate the wrench this must be ... I wish you well and will keep following wherever you go . jj
I get it. I talk to my van, thank her, and even pat her when I walk behind her. I’ve already started thinking about this which my van even though it has lots of years left on it. Here are some ideas: If you want to experience a change in your layout, size, etc, then perhaps keep her as a special spot for you at a friend’s or family’s home that you can fly out to for a visit when you don’t want to do the drive. A different van could become your home on the road. OR, go for it and fix her up. That is 100% OK to do too. Anything you decide is right. Whether you decide to stay on YT or sign off, you are a blessing for all of us and your inspiration to us will remain forever, as well as for all the new folks who discover your videos. You got this.
I believe this too. Sometimes we get so comfortable in our lives that we would never choose a new path, but then something happens that feels like a death of that chapter, when really it’s the birth of a new one.
I am not a vanlifer, but enjoy watching travelers like yourself. However, several have moved on to different lifestyles and I still watch their content. As others stated, do what you want and need. So many of us will still follow your content. Your sparking personality will shine through.
@@LadyBugoutI agree many many you tubers that I watch have changed lifestyles and continue their channels. They are as good as ever and going strong. I hope you make the best decision for you❤
The bottom line is what you can afford. Emotionally it does not seem that you are finished with Van life. If affordable get a new used van and continue on your merry way. If you had the money for a different van, would you want to stay on the road? Finances seem to be dictating what direction you will go. Sending love and light to help make the best decision for you ❤
One of my fav vanlife channels, Eamon and Bec, went and got a cabin and stopped traveling and theyre still my favorite channel! We love YOU, not your van
I was always here for your Dee. I saw your first video and have watched everyone since. Your positive wonderful attitude and that magnificent smile. I had the same issue (not the same mechanical) with my Little Red Van a 2010 Transit Connect. I took it in to get a door locked fixed and get the oil changed. Was told I needed thousands of dollars of work to start. I had way over paid due to when I bought it. The Mechanic did not recommend I take it on the trips I had purchased it for. I had to trade it in and now have a Pacifica. In the end I am thrilled with my choice. I only Camp, I do not live in my Van, but, I get it. I built out my Little Red Van in the end weeks of my Partners life. The joy it brought him to watch me turn it into my safe haven will forever be a wonderful part of my memories. He had passed by the time she failed, but, I know he would most of all want me to be safe. Best of luck in finding a new home to settle. Be it on wheels or a foundation. I am sure whatever direction you take, you will find joy, because, you are pure joy and gratitude.🥰
My heart hurts for you. I don’t want to lose you. You were one of my first van follows and the one who has encouraged me to follow this dream of van life. I know this can be a deep struggle for you and in the end you do what is best for you. I hope to still follow your journey on Instagram and to meet you, Bunny and Riley one day. Take care and huge hugs from SoCal ❤🐞
You've got this! Please continue to post. This is part of your journey and the journey of those who experience trouble with our vehicles. We struggle through and keep going because travel, meeting new people, seeing new places, and experiencing nature and the "man-made world" are what we want/need to feel alive and present in this life.
Dee - I started watching your channel when I found the episode on your 'bathroom' ideas - which totally changed what I do camping. But I subscribed and kept watching - not because I have a van - but because of YOU. Yes, I like all your van ideas...but you are one very special person. This is not going to be helpful because I'm not going to be specific - but whatever you are doing, I will be watching. Funny how someone I only watch thru a TH-cam channel has brought such calm to my life. Be you. If that includes us, fantastic. If it doesn't - still fantastic because we are your legacy. :)
Yeah, aren't you the one who puts dryer lint in tp rolls as kindle? And you also turned us onto this stuff you get at Feed stores that is a pine or juniper product that absorbs pee and composts poo.
I think we all just want you to be happy! Don’t make your decision based on what your audience wants - base it on what YOU want and we will be happy for you. 🥰
Reading through some of the comments I can see you've already got a lot of good advice. I think that whatever you have gained from your time in Ladybug is now a part of you and won't be lost whatever decision you make. Thank you for sharing your journey in such an inspirational and genuine way. Wishing you joy and peace, wherever your journey takes you next, Kath ❤
I’ve read so many people talk about a huge event happening in their lives and when they come out the other side, it was the BEST thing that ever happened to them!! I’ll bet this is the case for you! I’ve admired you from afar for years! Allowing this to knock you down just simply is not in your DNA!! After some soul-searching, it will become clear what path you will go down and before I know it, I’ll be watching you on TH-cam again. You’ve got this LadyBug! We’re all rooting for you!!! Go forth and conquer!! BELIEVE!! Lots of love and hugs to help you on your way!!
Dee out of all the van builds, yours is my favorite! I wish they never discontinued those ford transit connect. What ever you chose, you will make it beautiful!
What ever you chose to do or to go, please share with us your new adventures . I am a mum love being a mum and I learned a lot watching your channel , being resilient , loving my self , mindfulness . Take a break and when ever you are ready come back 👋👋
Do not spend money on rebuild or repair. Do buy another vehicle that YOU want, not what other people tell you. I would suggest an "engine compression test" on each and every cylinder to see the health of the engine. And I would continue to use the van in its current state KNOWING that you will replace the van and your just buying more time to save more money for the replacement and build out. Continue to surround yourself with friends and family during this stressful time.
You were the very first person i saw doing van life. You inspired me to do this lifestyle. I started with a 2012 ford TC. I built it out myself. Then i sold it and bought a 2015 ford 3500 cargo van. I am at jonnie's now having it built out. I gave up my appartment and I am full time. Please never quit. You will find a way. Whichever you choice you make, i know you will be okay.❤
I'd recommend upgrading to a new van. My Transit Connect is not aging well. Lots of big and little things are going wrong. Now I'm not as attached to mine as you are. Newer, bigger and better sounds tempting to me.
Oh no, Dee 😢 I'm so so sorry you are going through all of this. It's not hard to tell how much your beautiful little Lady Bugout 🐞 means to you, and how emotional of a time this has been for you. We've missed you so much the past few weeks, and we're so glad your okay. You are a ray of sunshine and the best of people. Whatever you decide to do, we truly hope you decide to keep making videos. We love you and the community you have created here more than any vehicle or material possession. We hope you are doing okay, and hope your sister's surgery went well ❤🐞
Your emotion comes as no surprise. You put so much of yourself into lady bug out. You discovered your talents, and creativity in the various modifications and replacements to your home. It has been a treat and inspirational to watch you. Your warmth and authenticity are apparent, and blessings to your subscribers. No matter your decision, I consider myself fortunate to have shared in your journey.
I found all kinds of used engines for your van on that famous auction site with one quick search. Site starts with E. Find a small town mechanic with a good rep and lower prices (lower overhead), get the engine couriered to him and away you go. I saw several engines from $900 to $1300. The inspect them and test them and give a guarantee from the right seller. Your vehicle IS an older vehicle, which means there are MANY parts available from used vans in wrecking yards - including engines. Another alternative is to stay with friends while you own engine gets a rebuild.
I had the same diagnosis yesterday on my vehicle. It's heart breaking for sure. I love your channel. No matter what you decide to do, I hope you find peace with your decision.
Dee, I want to first, thank you for documenting your journey. I was looking into van life in 2022 and thought I was going to get a full sized van. Those plans fell through but bc I had accidently watched one of your videos, I thought, if she can live tiny I can too. I bought a 2012 FTC and built her out using you as inspiration. I hit the road and it's really bc of you. I almost missed the grand adventure by not starting. My life circumstances have me off the road but I still taking Annie (my Dreamboat) out for short adventures. I am grateful to you. Know that you are an inspiration period. You have had to trust yourself thousands of times when making decisions in your journey. There is no wrong choice. You know in your gut what is the next best thing for you. If you invite us along, I'll watch. I enjoy inspiring people.❤
Dee, I’ve followed you since the beginning- I got a transit when diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years after my husband died. I’ve camped all my life, and we tent camped together. After he died, I didn’t feel secure in a tent, and hated towing a pop up. The Transit Connect was ideal- it’d been converted already, is a dream to drive, and I felt safe! Dreams of using it got me thru surgery and recovery, and I spent hours watching your channel for ideas. Now that I’m recovered, cancer-free, and camping, it’s evolving…as am I. I see this as an evolution for you as well- like when you came into van-life, into Ladybugout, and into TH-cam. Go where your heart carries you, however it will, and know that your sharing has touched more lives, more dreams, than you can imagine, and in more ways than you think! You made bright spots in mine, and if your adventures ever bring you to Door County, Wisconsin, there’s a warm bed and open door for you, fellow traveler 🥰
My first bout of breast cancer, I lived on the road somehow even through chemo and rad. in an urban area--although I never ever stealth parked as it is a misdemeanor here and teachers lose their credentials with a misdemeanor. 5 years later I had uterine cancer and they let me park my van at the skilled nursing facility I recovered. The big sky is a much better healer than a florescent lamp over one, for sure.
Please don’t quit, your honesty and modesty is an inspiration to women, especially those in midlife whom are confronted with some of life’s most difficult challenges. This is just another which with the support of you friends on here, your family and you’re new found resilience, you shall overcome. My thoughts are…a new engine. Things will fall into place, it’s the magic of van life. Lots of love 😊❤
What do you want? This is the question. Listening to you, it is obvious you want to continue. Personally, I would not embark on fixing your engine. You are going to incur labour costs for removal and breakdown of the engine only to discover that rebuilding the engine is out of your budget. This risk (IMHO) makes this option too risky. So, go find another van in your price range (that is not discontinued) and build that one out while living in your dying van. Change is hard, but it is the essential element of growth. Enjoy and revel in the challenge and explore the wonder of your growth.
I am sorry to hear of the troubles with your van. That’s a heckuva blow, all at once, car, home, future. I love your videos, they are so peaceful, calm, & quiet. All of that, comes from you. You take that with you, wherever you go. I sense that you are not ready to let go of your life on the road. It has given you purpose, direction, self-reliance, confidence & more. I lift you up in prayer, knowing that God has a plan for you. I can't wait to see which direction you go. Best wishes, & God bless. ♥
Oh sweet lady! We just love you and your personality so much. We will watch you no matter what. Prayers for you while you're figuring out what you are going to do.
I was so relieved when your video popped up. I have been worried but didn't want to comment because I didn't want to make matters worse. I would love for you to continue with vanlife but do what's best for you.
Sending you love and light ❤️ I am sure this has been extremely overwhelming for you, but I truly believe that when one door closes, another opens for your highest good. Good luck to you, and I can't wait to see what is next for you.
Dee, this is so sad. It always sucks when our vehicles/homes need a rebuild or replace. I know whatever you choose will be the best and can't wait to see what you do next! ❤
Watching you has given me so many ideas. I am at a crossroads in life, and have found inspiration in watching your videos. Live with it a little longer, the right pathway for you will present itself.
We will love you whichever direction you choose to go in. You have already made our lives better with what you've given us. Hugs and Compassion for you... ❤
Beautiful soul, im going through a similar situation with the 10x14 shed that i built into a very cozy tiny house. Ive been living in it for almost 5yrs fixing it up, changing it around until it has become my perfect cocoon and very soon i have to leave it. All of the things that i built it with are pieces of my life up till now. I have grown so so so much here but i HAVE to leave it. Its sad, but its also exciting to know that ill build again, this time with the knowledge of how i did it. Its time for me to build a bigger cocoon lol. Our memories live in our hearts. Maybe its time for you to build a bigger cocoon too. Maybe you're turning into a butterfly now. I love u Dee.
Life has chapters. This chapter is coming to an end and the next chapter may include a different vehicle. This could be a very exciting new chapter. Vehicles are machines, they have a lifespan and will need replacement occasionally. Look forward to what life's next opportunity has for you, it will be fun! All the best!
Dee, I completely understand the emotion about your little red van. It has taken you on such lovely adventures and is so comfortable and pretty inside and out. Only you can decide how to proceed and what you feel capable of doing. In the meantime, I have been so inspired by you, your positivity, your ingenuity, and your delightful personality. Thank you. I would be keen to know what you decide to do so please make at least one more video. Kind regards, Alexandra, Victoria, Australia.
Dee, follow your heart. We love your TH-cam videos and would be sad to see you go. That being said, we want what is best for your health and finances. Whatever new journey you take, we will support you.
We are about the same age and I also own a Transit Connect. I really enjoy watching your videos, but you should do what your heart tells you. The experience and your safety are most important. Your little red van is so special, but I would completely love watching you transform your knowledge into a new/used van. If put into the same situation, I would be heartbroken, but I think a new van might be best. I support you, from one Transit Connect owner to another. . . You got this! Aloha from Hawai’i
Whatever path you go down we will all be here to go with you! It’s impossible to spend someone else’s money and time so whatever makes sense do it and we will go with you!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Funny, 2 days ago your Bob Wells interview popped into my feed & I re-watched it. In the interview you mentioned about your (Mom’s) Ladybug landing on your forehead & you knew it was the van for you. Have faith…just as then, this time you will know when the right decision has been reached!❤🐞❤
Oh Dee, of course you are emotional. It's your home. What a hard decision you have on your hands. Maybe the time spent with family will help you find your answers. My husband loves to say, "things work out the way they are supposed to work out." As maddening as this response can be, there's a qualm-quelling truth to it (damn him.) Prayers for your happiness and hopes for your peace as it all unfolds. Know this: we find you a gem. Thanks for your openess and generous sharing.
Dee everything happens for a reason. The turtle has to shed its home to grow into a new one! This is growth not death. God bless and give you inspiration for the next stage of you journey.
Hey Dee, so sorry to hear about your van kicking the bucket. As someone who's had the joy of replacing both the engine and transmission on my beloved ride (yep, back-to-back, because why not?), here’s my two cents: if you can find a van with low miles, grab it like it’s the last donut in the box. But I get it - finding one these days might take longer than a toddler finishing their veggies. Hang in there!
Dear Dee, I have been following you for a while and found your videos not only informative but also uplifting and so sincere, a breath of fresh air in a world full of fakes. Van life has given you so much and will keep on giving if you keep on going. Lady Bugout will never be forgotten but a new van can accompany you (and us) towards new adventures. We are all with you xxx
Time for a new adventure! Build out something different and it will give you a new attitude and direction. Your viewers will support whatever you decide, but I think you still have an abundance of information and ideas to still share with us!😊
No. I am not asking for money. I am asking for input to help as I make my decision in case I am missing anything or not asking myself the right questions!
Your channel has been a MAJOR inspiration. Thank you for being such an honest & practical voice. My van adventure just started & you're a major part of the decision to make memories & live an honest life. Honest as in being true to who I am. Thank you for being vulnerable.y hope for you is in all situations you find yourself in, be true to you. That's something I learned from you. Again, thank you, you are loved.
Losing a van you live in is similar to losing a beloved dog or cat. It's a huge part of your life. Rationally, you know they don't last forever, but you just can't prepare yourself for it mentally. It just hurts like crazy when it happens. I don't think your followers should decide your fate. You need to do that. As someone said, if you are on here we will be here too. We will support you no matter what you decide to do. Best wishes.
I rarely leave comments. Awwe Dee don't feel bad about being emotional about it. You have every reason to feel this way. You found yourself with your home/vehicle and opened yourself up to new adventures and personal growth. You don't look like your ready to call it quits. You have many journeys ahead of you. I feel the same way about my van. I only ever dreamed of buying a van but after finding out my wife was having an affair. Despite my disabilities mental health and physical struggles I have slowly built it out over the past 3 years. The memories I have made and the things ive been able to accomplish, with my Van and my dog Jack I probably wouldn't have ever done if it wasn't for my ex having the affair and the youtube channels like yours that helped me through my fears to atleast buy the van. So Thank You I've slowly built my van and built myself up at the same time over the last number of years. And although I still have my disabilities i don't let it stop me from going on adventures. I always have a place to lay my head down and feel safe and have everything I need. Im not full time in my van but I built it out for travel. When I decided to look at buying a van. My requirements for a van was that any mechanic could work on it. And parts had to be readily available. And if the engine ever needs to be replaced it could easily be available through used or re manufactured or rebuilt. Im 6'2 big guy so my van is a 2001 chevy express 2500 5.7. I'd love to see what you would do with a new used van. Toyota Sienna 🤔 but whatever you decide to do, your journey will continue. Ummm, I hope you're ok with me sending you some money on PayPal. It might not be much, but 🤷♂️ much ❤
Thank you for sharing your story. It is very helpful. So is your advice about your criteria for a vehicle. It makes a lot of sense. Also, thank you for your contribution. Every bit is helpful.🤗
Take your time...feel it out. No one can make the decision for you...rest, go with the flow. As you sit with it you will feel and know whats right for you. You'll feel it. Don't rush if you don't have to. You probably already know...AND remember, choices can always be changed...🙂🙂 best to you
brutal... im sorry.. i started a new van to me when i had t surrender the 4runner i worked so hard to get.. it is really gut wrenching but the new rig is providing therapy for me. im now building a 2019 transit connect.. i hope you find clarity to move forward in whatever u decide :).. your mental health is priority.
@@LadyBugout I’ve lost my dog of 8 years and recently lost papi…. I know how brutal a loss is no matter who or what it is.. maybe you are supposed to go through this loss and have so many eyes on your channel to inspire and provide your strength to a stranger in need.. I call it the “ ripple effect” I believe you will get through this stress and pain. You are blessed to have a great platform that will witness lady bug outs phoenix moment 🙂
Your videos are something I always look forward to! A new home on wheels feels like a great progression-whatever is next, will be in alignment and present itself organically 💜♥️
From your response to the situation, I have to say you're not ready to leave vanlife behind. You are a strong and independent woman but reach out to the community for financial aid if that's what it takes. You decide when your journey ends not circumstance ❤
For those of us on the road, or wanting to be, sharing your path forward will be so helpful. Not everyone can afford a brand new tricked out Mercedes van, and would appreciate learning from your choices. I can argue for both a rebuild and a new to you vehicle. You've gotten great advice, and we're here for the journey. I appreciate your vulnerability, honesty, and thoughtfulness.
I thought living in a tiny van would be the ticket to saving for a brand new tricked out Mercedes van. Life is a banquet, why settle for crumbs when you can have a "brand new tricked out Mercedes van," with a shower, air conditioner, heating system, etc. If I was living in a tiny van; I would always be saving and planning for the day when I could upgrade, but that's just me.
I have watched many of your journeys and wish you the best in whatever your future holds for you. I would hope that you continue to inspire people to follow their own path without fear or regret. You have been an inspiration to me as for now my husband and I can only do summer trips, but soon we will be out there enjoying those peaceful places you mentioned all year around. Thank you for just being you!
Just the fact that you are emotional leads me to believe that your journey is not over yet. My suggestion for what it's worth is to get another Ford Transit Connect and build her out.
EDITED COMMENT - There are quite a few older model Transit Connects for sale. Dont give up! Orginal cimment: 1. Breathe. 2. Allow yourself to settle so you can make a clear decision. 3. You have many, many supporters. 4. A new or revived vehicle will arise. ❤
That’s my vote too. Dismantle everything possible out of this van & take it to the new-to-Dee van. UNLESS she finds a rebuilt engine. I better not see anyone say “it’s just a car,” because so much is put into a van to make it your home. I bought a 20 yo van & I’m always nervous about it. But the previous owner had done a lot of mechanical work on it & gave me the receipts. We’re staying in touch too, so that a relief to have that resource. Back to Dee: you are one of three channels my daughter recommended last year when we were considering this lifestyle. The first thing I bought her for her travels was the toothbrush cleaner/holder. Because of you! I’m still working on sliding doors for a section of my storage. I’ve learned so much from you! I don’t think you have to be forced to do anything, other than maybe replacing your vehicle. If you want to quit vanlife, even for a while, do it for your peace of mind. Take your time. I’m sure your viewers will be interested in your wisdom nuggets regardless of where you are. Much love Dee! ❤❤❤
Dear Ladybug, I’m so sorry about your van. It’s so wonderful that your “plan B” is filled with family and options. You have helped me so much with my Ford TC. Thank you for reminding us that people live longer than vans do. (It’s hard to face that reality). Thank you for sharing this inevitable van-crisis with us. I will now start saving every penny for plan B. Many of us have nothing to fall back on and will become literally homeless if our little vans die. This was truly a wakeup-call to put aside as much money as possible to be ready for my van’s imminent demise. I hope you will continue with van- life. And your channel. You have really helped me so so much to get started with my van-life. Thank you, Jewel. See you down the road friend❤
Your livelihood is far beyond a vehicle. Yes I understand that you put a lot of effort and energy time and money onto it. And that you were able to prove to yourself that you were capable of surviving in dire circumstances. For some of us who completely rely on God's providence and plan we get it. Take your time and don't panic. You have a sister to help and other family members who will occupy your thoughts. You have endless possibilities. Never make decisions when you haven't calmy thought about the situation ( contrary to panic mode). The rest of us pray that His will be done and we feel at ease.wishing you peace😊
If you can’t rebuild & you want to continue vanlife, get situated & look for your next vehicle! Dismantle everything possible out of this van & take it to the new-to-Dee van. It's all about the money, Dee. Whatever is in your budget. A larger van will take more gas. You already have a beautiful build out, consider the rebuilt engine.
Dee, I hope you stick around in whatever capacity that makes you happy. You are creative and inspiring to so many of us. Your home is so cozy. I can understand being emotional at the thoughts of giving her up. I sense that you are not ready to give up on van life yet. Once you get enough information on the options that appeal to you the most, you can share with your subscribers. If you have barriers, I'm sure many will offer to help in ways that they can. Thanks for sharing your journey. Take care.
Your home is where your heart is - no other van will be the same as your little red one, but better things may yet be in the cards! Follow your heart but the fact that you are so sad for leaving vanlife, maybe it is the time for a different vehicle and build (as long as you can afford it) I wish you the very best, hopefully with this channel still!
Wow, firstly so sorry this has come up. We know your van is where you experienced alot of joy. Keep doing whatever genuinely gives you joy. And some positives, you need a plan B, incase your nomad journey may change. Take care ❤
It must be very difficult for you to let go of your van that has been your life for so long! It takes a lot of strength to start over and I will be thinking of you. I have been watching your videos since the beginning and you are a big inspiration for me, not just living in a van, but starting new challenges and just accepting you as what you are, especially during a time where I also had to start over. Thank you for that and best of luck for whatever comes next!
So sorry to hear about your tiny van and that I’m so late seeing this video. Your channel is the best and you have inspired so many people including me! I hope you do what’s best for you and always put your wants and needs first! Love & hugs to you!
Retired mechanic here. If rebuild is as much as a used van, I would go with the rebuild. Then you know what you have. A used van could possibly have problems also. Then you have the cost of the van, repairs, and the build out.
Rebuild yes, but only if no significant rust on frame. If the frame is good and could last many more years, let’s go for rebuild.
100%
Yes, great advice.. This is a mechanic so he knows best
That is really helpful and encouraging. Thank you 🥰
@hrock8081 You said everything I wanted to say but couldn't find the right words.

@@hrock8081 Yes, well said! I said I hope she builds out a new vehicle, but really, I just want her to stick around TH-cam.
I agree 100%. I’ve been a Patreon of yours because of you! Not the van life per se. Hope you keep posting! ❤❤❤❤
He would’ve charged me $100 plus ‘labor’ 🥴
Side note to the story: I was traveling in the south.
@@reidcrosby6241 Wow, that’s interesting! Thank you for sharing that.
@@ronaldmcrae4896 You’re a good man.

🥹 you made me tear up again. Thank you for your kind encouraging words.
Best of luck in however you decide to go forward. All who have supported you this far will, I am confident, continue to be there for you. ❤
Thank you🙌🏼
@@LadyBugoutthat's what I was thinking
@@RoyalEmpressTreeI was thinking that, too, but didn’t know for sure 🤔
Machines wear and break. This is an inflection point, not a barricade. If you have a solid chassis under your build, decide whether you wish to change up or stay with the familiar. I do vote with the proponents of a fix, rather than lateral trade. This is an opportunity to decide if you want to shake things up. Somebody is going to put a fresh head in that van and head out on the road. We can kibbitz, but you must decide your path.
Its not about what we want. Its about what YOU need /want.
Awww. Thank you. You are right. I do invite some input though. And the comments have been really helpful. Even this-to do what I need/want 🥰🙌🏼💪🏼
Pourquoi ne pas continuer cette aventure avec un autre véhicule ? 💪🏝️☀️🏖️

@@Shan-ShanHyou may be new to the channel and not know the story about the van and my mother’s passing. So, I can understand your comment.
New van, new build, new challenge. Its not time for you to quit! You will get through this bigger and better! 😍

Sometimes the music is in the pause between notes. The pause let’s you find the right note.
@@LadyBugout we are so lucky when we have options:)
@@whimsical9860 I wholeheartedly agree, except I would say she’s grieving the loss, but not of her car, of her home.
See the van as a time of personal growth. So now it's time of change!!! You already know the answer all you have to do is do it.
WOW! I don't wanna lose you. You are such a inspiration to the van life
That’s so kind of you🥹
The ladybug you held in your hand a few videos back was wishing you “good luck, and new beginnings”🐞
🥹
Very helpful. Thank you 🥰
I am in the process of "no-build" upfitting a Nissan NV200.
Don't quit.
Whatever you decide, you know your fans love you.
I appreciate that 💃🏻🐞🚗
Having watched most of your videos over the past three years I can say the ones that I enjoy the most are when you are bringing us on one of your decision making journeys.
Thank you 🥰
You are a positive resilient woman...this is a hiccup. ❤
Thinking of you anything more on decisions you have made .
Dee, I am in a similar situation after 15 years of traveling with "ALF" ... at 80 and with health issues AND mechanical ones too, I fully appreciate the wrench this must be ... I wish you well and will keep following wherever you go .
jj
Thank you 🥹
As always I love the way you think!!! Thank you for this 🥰
When things fall apart, let them.... your new journey awaits. All the best to you 🌹
I like that 🙌🏼💪🏼💃🏻
I believe this too. Sometimes we get so comfortable in our lives that we would never choose a new path, but then something happens that feels like a death of that chapter, when really it’s the birth of a new one.
Agreed
I am not a vanlifer, but enjoy watching travelers like yourself. However, several have moved on to different lifestyles and I still watch their content. As others stated, do what you want and need. So many of us will still follow your content. Your sparking personality will shine through.
That is very helpful to know. I appreciate it 🥰
@@LadyBugoutI agree many many you tubers that I watch have changed lifestyles and continue their channels.
Very true!
Thank you, Dee, for taking the time to share this. It means a lot. 🥹
Thank you. Yes, I am sure things will pan out just as they are supposed to 🥰
You've got this! Please continue to post. This is part of your journey and the journey of those who experience trouble with our vehicles. We struggle through and keep going because travel, meeting new people, seeing new places, and experiencing nature and the "man-made world" are what we want/need to feel alive and present in this life.
Thank you so much!☺️
Dee - I started watching your channel when I found the episode on your 'bathroom' ideas - which totally changed what I do camping. :)
That is very encouraging feedback. I appreciate it 🥰
Yeah, aren't you the one who puts dryer lint in tp rolls as kindle? And you also turned us onto this stuff you get at Feed stores that is a pine or juniper product that absorbs pee and composts poo.
I think we all just want you to be happy! Don’t make your decision based on what your audience wants - base it on what YOU want and we will be happy for you. 🥰
Yes! I will ultimately make the decision based on what I need/want. But I do value input at this point and if has been very helpful ☺️
I appreciate that 🥹
I’ve read so many people talk about a huge event happening in their lives and when they come out the other side, it was the BEST thing that ever happened to them!!
Take a break and when ever you are ready come back 👋👋
Thank you for that encouragement. It made my day 🥰
Aw Dee, I’m so sorry. Follow your heart. It would be fun to watch you create a new space but do what feels right.
I like the sound of that!!!
Oh no, Dee 😢
I'm so so sorry you are going through all of this.
We hope you are doing okay, and hope your sister's surgery went well ❤🐞
Thank you 🥰
Your emotion comes as no surprise.
Thank you so much 🥰
I found all kinds of used engines for your van on that famous auction site with one quick search.
🦋 yes
Yep, my engine is gone too, high mileage. 1250 just to replace coolant & oil hoses, but he didn't tell me my engine was bad too!!
What a beautiful story. Thank you for sharing🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for sharing this. It is very helpful 🥰
I have to say, yes, LBO, is so effortlessly nearly perfect its almost annoying! LOL!
Thank you for your concern--and encouragement 🥰
Sending you love and light ❤️ I am sure this has been extremely overwhelming for you, but I truly believe that when one door closes, another opens for your highest good. Good luck to you, and I can't wait to see what is next for you.
I agree! I wait with open heart and open arms for whatever is next 🙌🏼💪🏼💃🏻
Dee, this is so sad. It always sucks when our vehicles/homes need a rebuild or replace. I know whatever you choose will be the best and can't wait to see what you do next! ❤
Thank you my friend!!! We shall see 😝
Sometimes our darkest days precede our greatest growth! A new chapter awaits. 😍
Watching you has given me so many ideas. I am at a crossroads in life, and have found inspiration in watching your videos. Live with it a little longer, the right pathway for you will present itself.
Thank you. Yes, I will be sitting with my thoughts and waiting as long as it takes 🙌🏼💪🏼💃🏻
We will love you whichever direction you choose to go in. You have already made our lives better with what you've given us. Hugs and Compassion for you... ❤
🥹 thank you
Beautiful soul, im going through a similar situation with the 10x14 shed that i built into a very cozy tiny house.
Thank you for sharing this 🥰
@@LadyBugout 🥰🥰🥰
Life has chapters. This chapter is coming to an end and the next chapter may include a different vehicle. This could be a very exciting new chapter. Vehicles are machines, they have a lifespan and will need replacement occasionally. Look forward to what life's next opportunity has for you, it will be fun! All the best!
Yes, I think so!!!💃🏻
Dee, I completely understand the emotion about your little red van.
Thank you. That means a lot 🥹
Aloha from Hawai’i
That is very helpful. Thanks 🥰
Whatever path you go down we will all be here to go with you! It’s impossible to spend someone else’s money and time so whatever makes sense do it and we will go with you!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for saying that 🥹
Funny, 2 days ago your Bob Wells interview popped into my feed & I re-watched it. In the interview you mentioned about your (Mom’s) Ladybug landing on your forehead & you knew it was the van for you. Have faith…just as then, this time you will know when the right decision has been reached!❤🐞❤
🥹🐞🥰
You were one of the first van lifer I seen and admired

Dee, hugs from Quebec. Try not to feel that you shouldn't mourn (for now) a lifestyle you love. Courage and faith.
I appreciate that 🥹
Time for a new adventure! Build out something different and it will give you a new attitude and direction. Your viewers will support whatever you decide, but I think you still have an abundance of information and ideas to still share with us!😊
Is this a concerted scam like the rest of the people who live in automobiles and host TH-cam channels? @@johnr.6029
Finances are not my concern. But thank you 🥰
I’m so glad you are ok… keep up the videos… you are missed
Time for Lady Bug 2.0. Be open to any van style. Think of the fun making her come to life!!
This is true 😝
You can’t quit, it has become part of your life and you enjoy it so much. You will find your next van and love it as much as this one ❤
So Thank You
I've slowly built my van and built myself up at the same time over the last number of years.
Good luck and God Bless. You will most certainly be missed. ❤️
Thank you. This helps more than you know!🥹
@@LadyBugout I’ve lost my dog of 8 years and recently lost papi….

Big big hug to you❤️ ❤😢
🥹 thank you
From your response to the situation, I have to say you're not ready to leave vanlife behind.
35+ yr mechanic here. Removing a head and having it fixed. Not a big deal. You can get it fixed for sure.
Look inside your true self for your answers...ask and listen! Good luck, our life challenges are there to teach❤
So true! 🥰
Put it into perspective. Your van needs help, it isn’t your body. It isn’t cancer.
Personally I would get a new or newer van. Not sure what kind would be best. Would be fun to watch you build out another one. Love your channel! ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you! That’s a great help 🥰
Just the fact that you are emotional leads me to believe that your journey is not over yet. My suggestion for what it's worth is to get another Ford Transit Connect and build her out.
Be well, D. Take some time but please don’t quit your channel. You are really quite good at this!!
Yes 🙌🏼 I know it will 💃🏻
Get.
Another good used van!👍
🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Pray where God would have you be ( His Will Be Done )

Your livelihood is far beyond a vehicle. Yes I understand that you put a lot of effort and energy time and money onto it. And that you were able to prove to yourself that you were capable of surviving in dire circumstances. For some of us who completely rely on God's providence and plan we get it. Take your time and don't panic. You have a sister to help and other family members who will occupy your thoughts. You have endless possibilities. Never make decisions when you haven't calmy thought about the situation ( contrary to panic mode). The rest of us pray that His will be done and we feel at ease.wishing you peace😊
Do what you got to do whatever you do just don't give up you're such an inspiration to everybody especially me

Keep your eyes open for a new rig that feels right and keep on truckin on! Cheers to you🎉
If you can’t rebuild & you want to continue vanlife, get situated & look for your next vehicle! Dismantle everything possible out of this van & take it to the new-to-Dee van. UNLESS you find a rebuilt engine.
I better not see anyone say “it’s just a car,” because so much is put into a van to make it your home.
I bought a 20 yo van & I’m always nervous about it. But the previous owner had done a lot of mechanical work on it & gave me the receipts. We’re staying in touch too, so that’s a relief to have that resource.
Great advice from someone who knows. Thank you 🥰
It's all about the money, Dee.
Take care.
Pray to Jesus for guidance
Your home is where your heart is - no other van will be the same as your little red one, but better things may yet be in the cards! Follow your heart but the fact that you are so sad for leaving vanlife, maybe it is the time for a different vehicle and build (as long as you can afford it)
I wish you the very best, hopefully with this channel still!
Dee, we want you to do what feels right for you, do what’s in your heart! We are always here for you. ❤
Awww thank you guys 🥰
The very best of luck no matter what you decide. I would miss your videos so much, be well and find peace♥️
Thank you so much 💃🏻
So sorry to hear about your tiny van and that I’m so late seeing this video. Your channel is the best and you have inspired so many people including me! I hope you do what’s best for you and always put your wants and needs first! Love & hugs to you!
Awww thank you 🥰
