- On Sunday, Kemi Badenoch gave a quintessentially weird interview to Sky News' Trevor Phillips, in which she was challenged over her views on "peasants" and immigration.

She really expects the working class to vote her into power while using the term "peasants"
"So why not actually understand the word 'peasant' it is not insulting be descriptive if a working class people in different times ...
Stop being such a moaner...
No doubt these 2 muppets consider themselves "above' peasant ..arrogant entitled knts
Yes she does and some of them will
Yes.
You're average south of England voter will vote for them.
As stated, she wants a slice of the ideology stupid vortex of doom.
How can Badenoch talk about immigration? Her Mum flew to a private UK hospital to give birth to Kemi, then went back to Nigeria immediately after. She just wabted to ensure dual citizenship.
And now she's trying to pull the ladder up? I suppose in her head there's the right kind of immigrant and the wrong
So she’s privilidged? Why does that expel her from being a political leader and spreading political agendas? Is it because she’s black and female she has to be cut down a level or held at hammer? Why can’t she make a decision to stop immigration? Her background shouldn’t be scrutinised. Sure she’s wild but I don’t see how that’s affecting a single thing in the world. All that’s affecting is our weak systems and pathetic border control. Freak murder incidents and juiced economy. Someone rogue could fix it. I doubt it be here though but she could break a path for nex gen politicians
If you’re going to tax every action from right from wrong on every politician you will miss bigger picture. Just watch the laws and results. In fact listen to citizens
She mentioned Drs being good immigrants because her parents were drs but from what I understand they didn’t really work here?
@@charlottecarter2748 what on earth are you talking about?
I am a citizen you thunderous pudding
No I think this is just Tory desperation to try and claw back some of the split vote from reform even though it didn’t work for them in the last election it seems they’ve decided to carry on the same tactics.
They think if they get a person of colour saying it then they can get away with it. Suella, Priti and now Kemi. Probably the most bigoted, xenophobic and disgusting politicians to hold office is this country for decades. It’s depressing what the west has now descended into
7 child sex groomers were sentenced yesterday in Glasgow. None of them came from "peasant" communities anywhere. They were all white Brits. The problem is poverty and a police force that doesn't think protecting the poor and disadvantaged is part of its job. It's nothing to do with the religion, "race" or class of the perpetrators
And when white people are charged for also committing crimes, racists complain about 'two tier policing'. They just want to blame everything on other people not like them. Right wing politicians encourage that to distract from their culpability.
This is exaclty what the problem is. Blinkered racism.
I would say that rather than a police force that doesn't think protecting the poor and disadvantaged, it's more a case of a seriously underfunded and under staffed police force has so few resources that they are unable to fulfil their full duties. This is a result of serious underfunding and cuts over the last 14 years of the previous government. What p*sses me off the most is that the Previous bunch of idiots say "well we put 10,000 extra police on the streets". but what everyone conveniently forgets is they did this AFTER cutting budgets and slashing police officer numbers by over 40,000 in total so the reality is our amazing Police force is down by 30,000 police staff on what it was 15 years ago. This has had a massive knock on effect on pretty much every aspect of life in this country. Crime in general has rocketed, Racism is rampant, 30,000 less people are in work, shoplifting is at an all time high, knife crime is at an all time high, car crime, domestic violence, sexual offences, violent crimes, ALL higher than they were 15 years ago. Gun crime higher than it has ever been.
When there were more police on the streets, they knew who the troublemakers were and they knew who they had to keep an eye on and had the officers to do it. The streets were far safer (in general).
What we need is a massive recruitment drive with proper training to bring back the levels of police officers we need on the streets instead of just saying how ineffective our police are. My personal belief is that they are doing the best they can with what little they have to work with.
Also I am so happy that we no longer have a party in power that see us (the public) as simply idiots to keep them in money. The current shower may not be perfect, but by anyone's standards they are 100% better than the previous shambolic bunch.
That's the exact mentally that allowed the Pakistani child rape gangs to continue. They were ethno-religiously targeted attacks. Hate crimes against White children. Stop being a rape apologist to try and protect multiculturalism
The problem is race. Theirs was a hate crime. The Glasgow scum didn't get protected by police and media
for politicians the phrase "let me be clear" should carry a prison sentence
" Let me be clear", means anything but being clear.
Such a boring comment to make. So basic
I also can’t not read it without hearing Obama’s voice
😂💯🎯
I agree. Starmer also says it all the time and it winds me up.
Of course class is being applied. This is exactly what she thinks of the rest of us also.
I would say this is why it would be best to have a centre-left party that acknowledges issues with immigration. I do believe that many people feel unchecked immigration can cause issues, and that changes could and perhaps should be made. A lot of people feel very strongly about this. The centre-left doesn't acknowledge the issue and in some cases makes it worse, so they vote right instead.
But it would be nice if any necessary adjustments could be made by people who don't refer to people as "peasants" or make unsavoury salutes.
@@jonathanbennett540I think you’re right, the left-wing parties should not be ignoring the issues around immigration because it’s something that a lot of people care about.
There’s not doubt that most immigrants come here to work and contribute, but it shows how broken our economy is for us to rely on so many immigrant workers.
@rendondo214 Of course, they come here to work, but you've got to consider why in our neoliberal economy it's beneficial for the country to have immigrant workers. Why do we need immigrants to do jobs that "white people don't want to"? I'm pretty worried that instead of just having a job market that pays people fairly we've imported an underclass that the country is growing resentful towards, and that will grow resentful towards the country.
not going at anyone here. that comment reads a bit argumentative
No I don't believe that's true she was clear in describing the area and work level of those she called peasants. Labour are self destructing also.
They are too obsessed with marginalising the left and to gain votes from the right (people who will never vote for them)
The last three conservative party leaders have done more for Labour than there for their own party.
I hope she can keep it up, and provide the kind of self-sacrifice that this country needs.
I did not expect to see you here, love your model work.
Looking into my crystal ball, regardless of what they say reform and Tory will make a pact in the next election but NF is holding off until it becomes apparent to the tories that he will only do it if he gets the PM role.

That’s not true, Rishi Sunak got voted out because of Tory fatigue. @catherinemartin6258
Surely she isn't calling all voters peasants. She's stating that in an advanced Western society some ultra religious 'folks' from ultra religious communities don't fully comprehend the complexities of living with apparently sophisticated secular urbanites and their fusion of non-religious ethics and values. To an ultra orthodox person, if you don't own a religious outlook... your eternal soul is damned. Therefore you're worthless. A walking zombie.
Where is the UK heading folks? Ten years ago, such talk would have been inconceivable in the public sphere. To the British working class communities, you are the mirror to which Badenoch is looking at when she talks about Asian peasants. Enjoy the show!
Same place as America is currently headed to. ☹☹☹
Ten years ago the EDL and the BNP were all over spouting this exact same poison and British working class communities ate it up.
I don’t care what she said at all. How else is she supposed to communicate? At least she’s bold enough to stand up for what she thinks. Everyone should literally grow up and nitpick on their own voice - do better if you care so much about peasants …
The same rural, British working class that vote overwhelmingly for the likes of Brexit and reform that we openly ridicule?
@charlottecarter2748 shhh, here 🍭
The Tories act and behave like Britain has a empire and bad Enoch and every is example of what's wrong with the British private school system.
This woman makes me sick!!!
Nah she’s pretty insignificant
Hypocrisy - Badenoch in her maiden speech said ""...to all intents and purposes (I am) a first-generation immigrant." She is a placeholder leader who can be thrown under the proverbial when a winnable election appears on the horizon.
"Not me, I'm one of the GOOD immigrants!"
She tries to emulate Farage but has none of the charisma. As much as I absolutely despise the man, he exudes confidence and even when he's being horrific, still manages to seem (keyword!) like an everyman/jovial character. She constantly seems uptight and sneering with a posh "elitist" accent.
She also tries to be smart with her words so she can say something that sounds bad while technically not actually saying it, completely oblivious to the fact that the typical Reformist doesn't have the brainpower and/or motivation to care about wordplay. How many times has she had to double back and say something like "I was very careful with my phrasing - what I actually said was...."?
I don't share your opinion of Farage - I think he's confidence comes across as smarm and bluster - but fully agree Badenoch makes herself look silly when she focuses on the exact word order of a sentence. It doesn't work with reform voters because They believe that everyone is secretly like them, ie. Daft racists who miss calling it the p*ki shop.
Thank you for informing of this heartless and cruel woman, my parents are from Bangladesh who are sons and daughters of farmers.
It is Bad Enoch growing up in a highly privileged background in post-colonial Nigeria. Just look at the fact her family would have always had servants.
And have a live in maid for her three children.
'bad enoch' love it! 😂
Yet she has the audacity to claim that she understands poverty because she grew up in Nigeria.
She's actually correct regarding perpetrators of the grooming gangs coming predominantly from a very specific region of Pakistan (if I remember correctly, you can narrow it all the way down to 2-3 village). She then proceeds to use this as a means by which to justify a class-discriminatory immigration system, which is reprehensible, and her initial statement implies that all peasant farmers from rural Pakistan are r*pists and p*dos.
Just thought it was worth a mention, being the only time I've ever heard Badenoch say something remotely accurate.
@@PsilentMusicUK True most gangs were but the most recent two cases of gangs, one in Scotland, were all white. The Scottish one was in the press, well maybe a small part of it, yesterday.
Same crimes, same very heavy sentences, the ringleaders told by the judge they may never be released.
The main bulk of cases from 2012 onwards also included some gangs not of the majority of types snd their origin.
But when it comes to child abusing overall cases are more than 90% non gang, often within families and friends, which will reflect the overall population mix of the UK.
There is an organized aspect of gangs but isn’t it a reflection of society that ignored desperate complaints from victims, singly from police, one told at a station to ‘come back when you’re sober’.

Who says immigration is too high? Where is the analysis to support this ridiculous assertion?
So 1.6 million people in two years coming to a country that can't meet it's housebuilding targets and has crumbling infrastructure is totally fine?
Just look at the numbers. Then look at our housing, it isn't even coping with the current population. And remember that most of the immigration goes to England, which is the by far the most densely populated part of the UK.
Plenty of sensible folks on the left and right look at our immigration stats as unsustainable.
I don’t think we can have one million new people come to the UK annually. How do you account for the pressures on infrastructure like housing, health etc?
@@Nick_FlandersOh that is not on immigrants - or rather not as you think. You see immigrants come here, work, pay taxes, contribute. Now building houses, keep the infratructure going, NHS, schools, road, picking on farms - most of them was done by immigrants. Then they were chased away and suddenly we had a lot less working hands around. It didn't help the cons channelled a lot of public money away to friends (covid ppe anyone) and so there is even less money to ho around now, while we have even less workforce. The thing is, with your immigrant rhetoric you cause immense harm to the country, but of course you know that.
@@Autotrawler1immigration is probably too high. However it is worth remembering that it is those politicians who complain about it the most that caused the big spike in demand for immigrants. Kemi wants to make feudalism great again. 😂
You’re perfectly correct about tenant farmers being almost feudal. My grandfather was a tenant farmer and died in an accident in 1936 - the squire (owner of the land) threw his wife and family off the farmer the following Michaelmas (after the harvest). That was 1936. There was a beautiful goat farm close to where I live with a cafe and fantastic milk, cheese, tours - a lovely couple of hours. The squire threw the tenants off the land to get more EU subsidies, ironic eh? That was 10-12 years ago. Nothing’s changed!
Here for solidarity with the peasants.

Kemi Badenough knows that younger voters are less likely to become Tory voters. She simply wants to import in those more inclined to be self-interested and inclined to vote Tory. Add a massive dosage of bigotry, classism, and general lack of empathy or understanding behind her sentiments.
I can kind of see why she would use that language, that was part of the problem in the first place of not being able to articulate the community that the issue stemmed from. Follow up question, how did peasants from pakistan/bangladesh legally migrate to the UK? Look past the emotional language and actually contend with the issue that is being discussed. Instead everyone focuses on the language used. Kemi has awful views on class and categorizing other human beings in such ways but I don't see any journalist discussing the wider issue beyond the culture war or questioning anyone with authority beyond calling for another inquiry. Theres way more to be said than just leave it to a committee to find results which can then be dragged through the same culture war.

You should call the studio guy "farm boy" like Princess Buttercup calls Wesley in The Princess Bride. You're very welcome.
Pakistan really needs land reform.
Land ownership is in the hands of rich families and the farmers are modern day peasants in effect. Doesn't make them bad people and they are a mainstay of the Pakistani economy.
I love you guys, but I think you are avoiding the issue and using 'what aboutism' to argue semantics over substance. Peasants might be a more inflammatory word to the British, but i think that you are missing the point.
There are places in the world that still work on a fuedal system, there are places that are truly tribal. There are cultures that should not be supported or accepted in our society, (child marriage in Afghanistan tribes for example.) There are vast cultural differences around the world and these issues should be considered when making immigration policies.
Assimilation is key to any immigration program. Its the foundation, and without a place and purpose for an immigrant community, then that group will not be able to succeed and integrate into your country's culture.
In the US, many immigrants and refugees were simply dropped into city ghettos, without much support or way to succeed. Without a place in society, those groups suffer. They turn to drugs and alcohol for escapism, and gangs for community. Such was the case for Cambodian communities in the US, which led to the formation of the Tiny Rascal Gang.
the point she's made about language is right - for most people, it doesn't matter and that's why we're in trouble on the left BUT that's the only thing she has said that makes sense. she's very very weird

peasant - "a poor smallholder or agricultural labourer of low social status (chiefly in historical use or with reference to subsistence farming in poorer countries)."
If thats the background where they came from then I do not see an issue with saying it. Everyone in the Indian sub-continent knows there is a huge problem with rape.
So if there’s nothing wrong with using the term peasant then either you consider yourself one or you consider other people less well off then you peasants? By your own logic you have to one or the other so which are you?

They aren't kept as slaves unless you are an unscrupulous individual.
I’ve seen he whinging about the Hausa people (northerners) in another video. She went on a rant about how she wasn’t Nigerian, she was Yoruba and then whinged about the northerners.
Northern Muslims rarely go into domestic labour in the South. They do that in the North in the homes of other Northern Muslims. They can do other menial jobs in the South but not that. Slavery is illegal. There are paid maids and nannies in the South, largely Christians from Benue which is central and Akwa Ibom which is in the South.

The Left really needs to quit pearl-clutching. A peasant is just an agricultural labourer. It's not a ridiculous or offensive thing to say. The real outrage is the grooming gangs, not a right-wing politician using a word you don't like.
Yeah it was a very popular term back when we was still living under a feudal system but fortunately we have moved on since then.
Personally I’m just as concerned about 90% of peadophiles that aren’t in gangs. Funny how right wingers only ever seem to show concern about the gangs though. I wonder why that could be
@johnknowles4131 Pakistan hasn't industrialised yet and is very much still a rural country. Therefore peasant is not an inappropriate term to describe a farm worker. Also, you should be ashamed for dismissing the rape gangs scandal. Gang raping children over many years if obviously a uniquely evil form of paedophilia. People are also angry about police and politicians ignoring the victims because they didn't want to upset Muslims or be called racist. The fact is that the Left is more upset about potentially offensive language than it is about paedo rape gangs.
