where as i agree, gas water and electric are vital to civilisation, and should be state owned, not for profit however its not, why dont you invest in utilities and get in on that action?
Exactly! It was meant to be cheaper because of competition, but it isn't working out that way! Govt subsidies, tax-breaks, bail outs, that's what they're getting - and we're paying for it with overpriced or substandard services! The healthcare model in America is a case in point: according to Bernie Sanders and AOC it is twice as expensive as the NHS; our govt knows this but still wants to copy _them._ Where's the financial sense in that??
Except they don't. Instead of investing, the water companies have been borrowing to fund shareholder dividends. It's about shareholder value, not service improvement.
Services need to be supplied to people in the most effective manner. Sometimes that's nationalised, sometimes privatised. Water especialy is doing far better under privatisation, yet even here the government still retains full control, approving and funding investments, the water companies make no money off water bills, its sold at cost, they are civil engineering firms, they make money building and maintaining infrastructure approved and funded by the government that heavily regulates them. Scottish water is still nationalised, its decades behind the private English companies because it had no incentive to reduce leakage, repair pipes, improve per capita consumption. Even the sewer overflows is due to government policy, a massive population spike no one was expecting and could plan for due to government policy meant hundreds of thousands more a year using infrastructure not designed for those numbers. The devil is in the detail.
But the government did this… they actually created a situation worse then free market privatization… they created monopolies with banks and services through regulation… the governments the problem. Not market

anyone relying or counting on a state pension to get by, is an idiot. its to supplement a pension, not be the pension. if someone spent all their money and saved nothing back their entire life, its their own fault.
You don't know what the solution is? Let me tell you: 1. Educate yourself about finance and our monetary system. 2. Stop spending your hard earned money on stupid consumption. There is a ton of money you are wasting now on things you don't need! 3. Think yourself instead of delegating it. 4. Invest the money you save wisely. It's easy if you think yourself! 5. Become rich 6. Migrate to a tax haven so that you don't have to finance all the suckers.
The politicians don’t need to speak to the people in business, because they already know that the people in businesses are only interested in getting richer.
This is what everyone misunderstands about Elon Musk. Elon Musk isn't in it for the money. He wants to push technology and society forward. He needs the money to do that, but he doesn't care about wealth. He has even discouraged people in the past from investing in his companies saying they are overpriced. Everybody knows governments waste extraordinary amounts of money on complete nonsense, why wouldn't you want someone to fix that. Don't listen to the media and don't listen to Labour about Elon Musk. They don't have the intelligence to see past politics. Nobody had a problem with Elon until he took over Twitter, think about why. The latter part where Gary pointed out why the anti-immigrant right actually increases migration on purpose was eye-opening! I can't believe this channel is free. It would have been good to also mention that non-EU migration lets employers import cheap labour like how the Conservatives in the UK primarily brought Indians. It also pumps up housing demand which the rich own so it benefits them.
"If it's too extreme for working people to own the means of production, why is it okay for private billionaires to own the means of production?" Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez
You're right, of course. The part I don't understand is that Trump TOLD Americans that he didn't care a jolt about them, he just wanted their votes and THEY VOTED FOR HIM! They essentially said that voting is such a hassle. We don't want to deal with it anymore. My rights and the rights of my compatriots don't matter. What we want is the super rich taking an industrial forklift to the public till and emptying the coffers. How do you protect a nation from such a level of self-harm?
That is misinformation - The missing context is that during the course of the speech in a Las Vagas rally on June 9, where the temperature exeeded 100 F, Trump commented several times on the excessively hot temperatures - at one point saying that the Secret Service had expressed concern for the crowd's safety. Trump joked about not wanting members of the crowd to leave, claiming he didn't care about them, only their vote. The crowd met this with laughter.
The idea that ‘we’ pay our politicians, health service, police, schools, etc. has really put this into perspective - crazily never thought of it like that. We are competing as a nation against the super rich just shows the extent of the inequality. Thanks Gary!
Thank you for the upload Gary. There is a huge correlation to what you’ve just mentioned from 4:54 onwards up until 9:04. I lived in Venezuela for 25 years and what you’ve stated is very true. The same thing will end up happening here in the U.K. if we are not very careful. Thank you for saying it how it is🔥
@@pixeljauntvr7774 the extent of the success of the psyop where NeoLiberalism was allowed to succeed & now enough people are truly seeing immigration as the problem & populist despots as the way out is how we're broken.
Migration isn't the problem, but it's part of the problem. The problem is a massive multivariate thing surrounded by fog, lies and divertions but the root of of it is, George Carlin said, it's a big club and we're not in it. Until the club is closed down (or at least shut most nights of the week) things will just get worse. The lid wont stay on for ever.
It is worse than that. In the US it used to be that one income could support a home, a car, a stay at home wife, kids, a modest yearly vacation, and modest savings. Today two people working can't even pay the bills. Many people have to have a full time and a part time job just to cover the basics. In the US if the minimum wage had kept up with inflation it would be over $20 an hour now and yet many people today feel that $20 an hour is a reasonable wage because many employers are paying less. Jobs used to give you a pension plan and free healthcare that took care of the basics such as a yearly physical exam, and regular basic visits to the doctor.Today business has gotten rid of pension and the free medical plan you get with your job if you get one has deductibles and co-pays so high you can't afford to go to the doctor.. You used to get a paid 1 hour lunch and coffee breaks. Now you get a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch. You used to get holiday pay and if you worked the holiday you would be paid time and 1/2. Many companies today make you take your accrued vacation days if you take a holiday off and only regular pay if you do work the holiday. All of this while corporations profits are through the roof,
The mysterious far right 😂 Immigration has done NOTHING for me. I’m a lorry driver our wages were on an upward trajectory before Blair opened the gates to the Eastern Europeans. Since then our wages and any industry which employs a lot of immigrants have stagnated and never recovered. So now I’m far right for supporting parties which are anti immigration? Immigration has raised rents and house prices in my area, you don’t have to be an economist to work out that a sudden influx of 1000s of people to an area will raise prices on rents and house prices. So I guess I’m far right for wanting common sense controls on immigration.
The "politics of envy" thing cracks me up. The so-called "envy" is not about people being rich. It's about continually RISING INEQUALITY. Who cares if a few people have luxury lifestyles and the rest of us don't? Most people are happy with a modest lifestyle. We'd retire long before we got the wealth of Musk. We don't want them to be poor and the idea that everyone can just get rich instead is ridiculous. It's about a healthy balance.
This has been going on for at least 30 years. Here in Germany at one point they decided to lower taxes for the rich and tax the middle class more and no government since then - doesn't matter if left or right leaning - has changed anything about it. It's the old lie about the trickle down economics.
Hopefully not. At the extreme we can always create new currencies at a grass roots level (barter being the most basic.) We need to go back to strong communities supporting each other at the bottom. Hopefully it won't get that bad though.
He wants to unsteady the waters, shake the trees, rumble the volcano. I think he's a disruptor by nature, not everything he says is false, he's made some good points in the past but overall I highly doubt the richest man on earth has people's best interests at heart, even if he is the pinnacle of success, why does he have a sudden interest in UK politics, why is he stoking tensions from across the Atlantic
@Hardspace1979 success has many different contexts, Hitler was successful for a long time until he was defeated, doesn't mean he was a good person but doesn't change the fact that he was successful at being an effective evil leader you could say
The super wealthy want to own everything and they want the middle class destroyed and the westerners who vote these people into power as they are so used to propoganda will achieve this task.
for most people the issue with immigration is primarily about culture. if you have slow, limited migration then they can filter into the population; if you have mass migration then their culture supplants our culture. anti-immigration or "far-right" parties will continue to grow throughout Europe because of this.
Adding over 10 million people in only around 20 years with migration has had a huge economic cost to this country. Not to mention the toll it has on housing, services, road infrastructure etc. They are now Adding close to a million people a year with mostly people that are a net cost. Hating migrants is not the issue, but the cost and erosion of British culture is. Obviously Billionaires do control governments, otherwise politicians wouldn't blatantly go against the democratic wishes of the people. Migration isn't an issue if done properly.
The erosion of British culture has been happening gradually post-WW2. Why not take accountability for the decay in British society? With regard to immigration, they are actually a net-contributor to the UK economy compared to British-born individuals. Yes there may be some pressures in housing and healthcare but there is not much you can do when the UK is going through a demographic doom and financial spiral.
Since 2000 to 2024, how many people have died? How many have emigrated? How many have been born? Why has the UK economy and British government not kept up the pace of infrastructure developments alongside population growth? Why did they lie about bailing out the banks in 2008? Why did they lie about the negative impacts of Brexit? Why did Thatcher sell-off our industries and council housing? Why did the QE during the pandemic transfer wealth to the rich? You’re missing out many factors.
Fellow economist here. Musk, along with all the other money people, want the Davida asteroid. The reason they are so interested in being the first to Mars is due to its position between earth and the Davida asteroid. Mars then becomes a processing station for mined minerals from the Davida asteroid which then return to earth processed and ready to be sold.

You’re wrong on immigration. There’s a difference between skilled migrants and economic migrants with little to no skills, coming in across the channel and sometimes on student visas who are not students, and taking advantage of a weak system, most low skill migration is a burden on the state. Most people can tell the difference and they are incorrectly branded as far right.
I think focusing on an issue like this undermines the importance no focusing on a much bigger issue which is the consolidation of power of the super rich who are taking away the social mobility of the middle class and the working class. Whilst immigration may be a problem it isn't the largest or more important one.
Are they burden? You didn't spend money on educating them. Most of them will earn money, go back and build a house in their own country. So when they retire- again no burden, including healthcare. You get most of Eastern Europeans only for the productive period of their life. Burden? They are the only reason GDP was actually growing at all in the last 2 decades

IS the reason why rich people want to avoid tax just because they want to be richer? OR is it that they refuse to hand over their money to incompetent governments who continually waste taxes on ridiculous endeavors that never help society as a whole?. I have no doubt there are those that just want to earn money and thats it but i also suspect there are those who have a massive disdain for the government and their continuous ineptitude. Maybe im just an idealist hoping there are rich people out there who genuinely want things to improve. Maybe im just deluded.
Yeah because introducing a sewage system, laws on clean air, stopping young children being forced to work, making factories safe, reducing disease etc, etc was all so stupid of enlightened progressive governments.
Utter rubbish. The capitalist class has NEVER EVER given half a crap about their "human resources" or the society they hover above like vultures. The government is a problem when it becomes controlled by the capitalist class, it's a solution when it's controlled by the people.
Calling people who are anti-immigration "far right" is dehumanising. The *reduction* of immigration is one of the most consistently prevalent issues campaigned on throughout past and recent elections - an issue that is the concern of a large proportion of the population. "Far-right" is a term used to suggest adjacency to Nazi ideology; a project which has long since failed, and the subscription to which is grounds for unpersoning, and a justification for violence towards. I think we all ought to stop taking our language cues from the BBC and other state news media. Except perhaps in Gary's place, you will likely find you have more in common with your right-wing neighbour than you do with the political elite orchestrating these language games as a way to divide and conquer.
Effects of an echo chamber. A very good friend of mine works in the city as a highly paid consultant in business strategy. Very clever guy, very well off, yet is convinced every single person who took part in the riots last year are far right. He thinks Elon Musk is racist and bla bla bla. Like Gary, Elon has suddenly become public enemy number one, it like Gary, sorta mentions him then waffles on about nothing. The danger of echo chambers
That right wing neighbor has been duped into hurting you, himself and society. Blaming immigration for problems unrelated to immigration makes you at best stupid, at worst fascist. And you should probably wise up to the never ending dehumanisation and threats of / acts of violence coming from the far right. ...and also know the not so far right, like Starmer's right wing labour, are harmful too. The answer, like always, lies to the left. By the people, for the people, so to speak.
Everyone SCREAMING “far right” are soooo FAR from right!! Reference taxing the ultra rich…. Absolutely agree. Gary…. Please please look into the ROLL OVER in Uk regarding selling assets and PAYING NO cgt if spend money within 36 months on MORE assets!

They lost control of their ability to censor and bully people into silence.

They essentially said that voting is such a hassle. We don't want to deal with it anymore. My rights and the rights of my compatriots don't matter. What we want is the super rich taking an industrial forklift to the public till and emptying the coffers.
How do you protect a nation from such a level of self-harm?
because the left had an anti-american agenda
Really, when did he say that?
That is misinformation - The missing context is that during the course of the speech in a Las Vagas rally on June 9, where the temperature exeeded 100 F, Trump commented several times on the excessively hot temperatures - at one point saying that the Secret Service had expressed concern for the crowd's safety. Trump joked about not wanting members of the crowd to leave, claiming he didn't care about them, only their vote. The crowd met this with laughter.
He never said that.
By voting for communism instead?
Is that where you're going?
The idea that ‘we’ pay our politicians, health service, police, schools, etc. has really put this into perspective - crazily never thought of it like that. We are competing as a nation against the super rich just shows the extent of the inequality. Thanks Gary!

Immigration has done NOTHING for me.

Looks like we are already too late. And where it's impossible now to tax the rich.

Whilst immigration may be a problem it isn't the largest or more important one.
even if a migrant is skilled, its of no benefit to me, them being here.

You didn't spend money on educating them. Most of them will earn money, go back and build a house in their own country. So when they retire- again no burden, including healthcare.

Hey Gary, I completely agree with you 100%.
