@@palmacate i'm gonna do an Erasmus scholarship from the US later this year so maybe I'll run into some of these small towns too :) I lived in Prague for 2 months before but never really went to places like Trencin. But I do want to visit a lot of the smaller German towns.
Trencin is small, but it has even lost a large part of historical looking centre during communism when many more or less beautiful detached houses and buildings were demolished, a large part of what you saw right around the main square has been replaced with the "commie" architecture. At least they didn't intervene into main square and the castle hillside too much. In the medieval times there was a fortification system around the city centre connected up to the castle, remains are still visible. Vah river was not regulated as these days and during floods the river was flowing right around the city fortification. As you are an Italian, hope your friends told you about the Roman inscription on the castle rock that is hidden behind the Elisabeth hotel as its a significant memory of Romans presence in the area way before the city was really born. I often check any videos from foreigners coming to Trencin and this is probably one of the best I've seen recently. Thank you for your presentation of my hometown. I suggest to do a bicycle trip to further or rural areas around Trencin or a hiking trip, the bike trail along the Vah river offers some nice views and places to stop.

@@palmacate there will be several smaller or larger investments to public spaces within the broader city centre as Trencin will become European Capital of Culture in 2026 that is expected to attract other foreign tourists. Hope it won't end up with embarrassment and the city will offer something more than the castle even we locals know other nice places around to spend time.
@@palmacate The Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius (lived in the years 121 - 180 AD) moved through the territory of today's Slovakia. He planned to make this territory a Roman province, which was eventually abandoned because he died prematurely of the plague in Vindobona, which is today's Vienna. Two interesting events are connected to his military campaign. One is recorded through reliefs on the Column of Marcus Aurelius in Piazzo Colona in Rome. The reliefs depict the march of the legions, their hardships during the drought, but also the so-called miraculous rain, which encouraged the Romans and intimidated the Germanic Quads. The second event was that Marcus Aurelius began to write his much-hyped, Greek-written philosophical work, Conversations to Himself, right at the time of this campaign. He clearly stated in the work: "Written in the land of the Quads on the banks of the river Granus." The Slovak river Hron is spelled in Latin Granus and in German Gran.
