Moe's closed shoulders triangular based swing was unlike anyone's else and yet can easily be applied to anyone's swing for improved accuracy and the feeling of greatness. His widen stances and always moving forward was the base for his extremely wide arc swing. Pre starting his backswing with the club head many inches from the ball also served him well. A simple right underhanded base ball grip helped him grasp the genius behind his swing. Those that were fortunate to see his swing in person were truly blessed. Cheers

This swing ( single plane) is so easy to work on, just go to the range, and keep Moe's keep the hands lower and slower and just torque through the shot like he's doing and you'll be amazed at how much more solid you start hitting golf balls. The idea is to keep your back swing below your shoulder, so as you take the club back turn with the back swing, DON'T go straight back and up. Good Luck

Very strong forearms and wrists, after watching Moe videos all over TH-cam I would compare his hitting of the golf ball similar to the power source of an Ernie Banks or Hank Arron...speed and power in the forearms and wrists...anyone else see this??
I converted to the system three weeks ago… I now hit the ball straighter and more solidly than I ever have when I was in my 20s I'm 54, and. I now hit the ball 310 yards with a driver… And with less effort, I might add. This is by far .... The simplest way to strike a golf ball.
Contrary to certain others. One does not need to see contact to learn from this video. Plenty available here to learn. Moe always said he kept it simple as possible. Students will want to keep that in mind for best learning effort.

I think Moe Norman is the greatest golfer that ever lived, at least to this point. All things considered. He couldn't compare to the tournaments won by Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus or Ben Hogan, but just a far as the game of golf is concerned, who can really touch him, all things considered. Of course comparing well composed, socially very well adjusted golfers like these three great players were to Moe Norman is comparing Apples and Oranges because Moe Norman had social problems that greatly hindered his career and yet he did have a great career but not like Woods, Nicklaus and Hogan. It's too bad. Nearly everyone today would be hitting the Single Plane Golf Swing if he was socially well adjusted, I have no question of that. Moe Norman had a disability that hindered his career greatly. If you want to read about Moe Norman's life I would highly recommend reading the book The Feeling of Greatness: The Moe Norman Story. I got it from Amazon and I'm about 80% done with it. Kind of a sad story but a great story as well.
This is swing that instruction of today cannot duplicate. Under and up!!! There is only one way the anatomy allows for this! For years I pivoted incorrectly. These series of videos verify that I am now correct! Thanks for these treasures! One swing, one ball position, only width of stance and how far the club is set behind the ball vary. It is now the simplest move in golf, at least for this old warrior!
Todd is a great choice if you want to develop a single plane swing! I do not particularly focus on plane. I focus on the firing point the takes me to the finish at the target! Moe tells us "under and up"! Is this one plane, two plane I never think of it! The biggest difference between myself and the instruction online is how, where and when I fired and what parts of the anatomy are engaged! IMO this is why Moe's swing has been unfairly tagged as a swing lacking distance! Rubbish! They needed to draw a due more lines and get a few more biomechanics involved! Moe didn't tell them any secret IMO he left that to you and I to figure out and I don't blame him for that! IMO he thru all the pieces to the puzzle in a bowl stirred them around then took one "pivotal"piece out and said let them find this piece and when they do the full picture will be clear! This is my experience! I always believed that Moe's achievable though he did not advocate you try! The system was cruel to Moe and still is to this day!! Thank u for these great videos, in them you see the unbiased move of Moe Norman!! The people in crowd are not fools, there comments, body language etc tells the world that something very special was occurring right before their eyes! No lines needed!!

Do you won't regret it but stay with it when it goes wrong, a lot of players try it but quickly go back to the old set up. I started playing at age 50 2 months ago. At the driving range I hit a small green straight as with beautiful loft using my sand wedge. Other people on the range swoon at how consistent I am at landing on the green so close to the flag which is 80 metres away. Im progressing now to other irons. My driver is useless so that's gonna take some doing.
Moe was the best at hitting straight golf shots ever. I used to swing like Moe, but am doing much better since I switched more to a Bryson DeChambeau like Setup for impact golf swing. I hit it much farther than I did with the Moe swing and more consistent as well. Wish I could have seen Moe in his prime though. From what I have seen his body was much more active when he was younger.
He probably hit it 400 yards when he was younger.... if he wanted to. The consensus is that as you get older you can't swing as well so you have to make adjustments. He didn't up until at least 72.
@@robertbrown7470 I have met pros who played with Moe in his prime and they all said that Moe was a short hitter, but very accurate. They said his average would have been around 235 yards, when the longest back then were hitting between 260 to 275 yards. Moe had many speed minimizing moves including not pushing against the ground to create speed. Had he wanted to he could have learned to use his legs more effectively, but with the equipment of his day it likely would have also meant more missed fairways, which Moe did not want.
None of that is necessary at all, my friend. The lesson is learned in watching Mo‘s body and his follow through. There’s no need to see where the ball goes. There are 200 of them there out in the field in the space of a hula hoop. The man is a machine. You need to watch him not how he plays the club. He plays the club like we all place the club. Right behind the ball. Thanks for watching. I did the best I could with one of the first VHS camcorders that came out. First time I ever videotaped somebody golfing. I’m much better now I assure you, lol
6:24 - "180 yard 4 iron." So from this we can approximately extrapolate Moe's driving distance at his age in this video, which would be about 247-250 yards! Yes I would take that all day, every day!
I've watched most of the Moe Norman videos. In many of the videos he says he's hitting the ball 300 yards... before he hits it. The crowd oohs and awes.

Yes that subject was already discussed and closed. Purposely filmed that way to keep the focus on MOE'S BODY. Notice the old guys in the background learning..... NOTHING. The secret is in the body. He hit every ball within a few feet of each other. He hit the ball in the exact same spot and same trajectory EVERY TIME. If you don't watch his body while he talks you miss all the knowledge.When you get a video tape analysis of your swing do you look at the ball to learn ? NO! You watch your body. Take away. Transition , downswing , impact. All these things that you miss if looking at the ball.

It doesn’t take training or skill in videography to know that watching the most accurate ball striker should include seeing the amazing product of what made him famous. It was constructive criticism out of frustration that we never get to see the beauty of his accuracy. Grow up and grow a pair.
If you really listen, his swing theories are all based on the basic fundamentals that any pga tour pro will teach you. His swing might be unconventional, but his swing thoughts are simple. Still , easier said than done. Golf is a really difficult game
Single plane, much simpler. I watch Micah Morris' youtube channel, he's young, only 5'8" and hits the ball 300+ yards but with several times the effort. Amazing Norman in his 70's at 5'7" can hit it 300 yards when he wants to with much less effort.
You need to watch the video brother. Moe NEVER takes a divot. Says it SEVERAL Times in the first few minutes. NO DIVOT TO BE OBSERVED. The lesson is in the BODY HERE ! You could just listen to this video and learn so much. Oh and your welcome anyway. LOL

@@robertbrown7470 ABSOLUTELY. I have played the course and he was hitting to the corner of a 440 yard dog leg left. Slight draw and easily 300. Right on the screws every time and PURE. When you hit it like that it GOES! Best display of ball striking I have ever witnessed.
A couple excerpts from the book The Feeling of Greatness: The Moe Norman Story, Chapter 23 Respect and Recognition: "Although Moe was sixty-four, Graves (Todd Graves) said Moe drove the ball about 270 yards and routinely hit it past his twenty-eight year old partner by 10 yards." Does that mean if the 28 year old hit it 290 that Moe would hit it 300? Who knows. Here's another excerpt from the beginning of the previous chapter 22: "Despite a head of uniform grey [hair}, Moe was hitting the ball so far that he was clearing trees at the back of the range, about 270 yards away." How far would that be on the fly? Over 270 for sure. How tall were the trees and so forth. 15 feet? Then a couple sentences later the book describes where he was hitting at: "Moe the senior citizen was pounding drivers off the turf at a range near Burlington, Ontario [Canada] --- and hitting them farther than young bucks forty-five years his junior." A couple or a few sentences later the writer points out that this is at the Carlisle Golf Club and mentions the reactions of the fifty on-lookers: Some gasped in awe, others shook their heads, some laughed incredulously. Moe responded to the laughter: "Don't laugh. Don't laugh. You'd cry if you could hit it this good." As near as I can tell I think the year is 1993, Moe would have been about 64. Not bad for a senior citizen clearing trees at the back of the range 270 yards away. Later in the chapter it gives you an idea of how old he was. "In his early sixties in the early 1990's, Moe was still strong as a bull, hitting the ball as well as ever and still in great demand for clinics." A grey haired, senior citizen in his early sixties. Smacking the ball 270 yards according to Graves and capable of clearing trees at the back of the driving range that were 270 yards away. Something I noted in this book. Moe Norman didn't care about distance. He cared about hitting the ball in the hole or at a target. At one point someone put a ball bag a hundred yards away and told Moe he would give him $5 each time he hit the bag. After Moe racked up $100 (20 hits) using various clubs from wedge to driver he put a stop to the bleeding. In todays dollars it's probably safe to say it would be $300 today. My point is that Moe was goal oriented, not distance oriented. Maybe not a minor point maybe it is. Moe Norman obviously is best know for straight drives and fairway shots. But he could hook that ball and slice it at will. All depended on what he wanted to do with the golf ball. What's the point? So you have young guys trying to show how far they can hit the ball, and probably not straight most of the time. That, apparently was not Moe Norman. Not that he couldn't do that. He could hit that golf ball far by today's standards and not by the supposed standards of a senior citizen. On one of these exhibition videos someone asked him if he could hit it further than 300 yards. He said he could hit it further but he couldn't guarantee it would stay on the fairway. That would probably be one of those times when Moe tried to hit it as hard as he could. That's when your drive would probably go left or right and not straight. What good is it if you can hit the ball 350 yards of 400 yards but can't control the damn thing. It's a crap shoot as to whether the golfer can keep it on the fairway. My contention is this: If Moe Norman, even when he was in his mid to late 60's and even early 70's wanted to hit a 300 yard drive, he would just do it and it would probably go straight like his 270 yard drives. If he wanted to hit it closer to 400 yards, maybe he could do it if he tried to kill it, but it probably wouldn't go straight. That's from every video I've seen, eye witness testimony, and this biography on Moe Norman. Even questioning the eye witness.

Joseph Russo Todd Graves (aka Lil Moe) teaches Norman's one plane golf swing. Moe mentored him. It's easy to learn. Check him out.

He was more active , then he realized he could the ball further and straighter buy eliminating all the unnecessary movement.

You see all those guys behind him looking where the ball goes right at impact and never seeing that high beautiful finish? They are like you I'm afraid. Missing The Point! To understand how every ball is out there within feet of each other in a circle the size of a giant hula hoop you have to watch the man who is hitting them. The follow through is the most important part he says in the video yet no one behind him was watching it that day. Moe used to say the ball just gets in the way of the swing. Yes that subject was already discussed and closed. Purposely filmed that way to keep the focus on MOE'S BODY. Notice the old guys in the background learning..... NOTHING. The secret is in the body. He hit every ball within a few feet of each other. He hit the ball in the exact same spot and same trajectory EVERY TIME. If you don't watch his body while he talks you miss all the knowledge.When you get a video tape analysis of your swing do you look at the ball to learn ? NO! You watch your body. Take away. Transition , downswing , impact. All these things that you miss if looking at the ball.

If it was all about his body then why bother to have the clinic in person at all? Sorry, as a videographer this is a poor video.

It doesn’t take training or skill in videography to know that watching the most accurate ball striker should include seeing the amazing product of what made him famous. If you really listen, his swing theories are all based on the basic fundamentals that any pga tour pro will teach you. His swing might be unconventional, but his swing thoughts are simple. Still , easier said than done. Golf is a really difficult game

Single plane, much simpler. I watch Micah Morris' youtube channel, he's young, only 5'8" and hits the ball 300+ yards but with several times the effort. Amazing Norman in his 70's at 5'7" can hit it 300 yards when he wants to with much less effort.

You need to watch the video brother. Moe NEVER takes a divot. Says it SEVERAL Times in the first few minutes. NO DIVOT TO BE OBSERVED. The lesson is in the BODY HERE ! You could just listen to this video and learn so much. Oh and your welcome anyway. LOL

@@robertbrown7470 ABSOLUTELY. I have played the course and he was hitting to the corner of a 440 yard dog leg left. Slight draw and easily 300. Right on the screws every time and PURE. When you hit it like that it GOES! Best display of ball striking I have ever witnessed.

A couple excerpts from the book The Feeling of Greatness: The Moe Norman Story, Chapter 23 Respect and Recognition:
"Although Moe was sixty-four, Graves (Todd Graves) said Moe drove the ball about 270 yards and routinely hit it past his twenty-eight year old partner by 10 yards." Does that mean if the 28 year old hit it 290 that Moe would hit it 300? Who knows.
Here's another excerpt from the beginning of the previous chapter 22:
"Despite a head of uniform grey [hair}, Moe was hitting the ball so far that he was clearing trees at the back of the range, about 270 yards away." How far would that be on the fly? Over 270 for sure. How tall were the trees and so forth. 15 feet?
Then a couple sentences later the book describes where he was hitting at:
"Moe the senior citizen was pounding drivers off the turf at a range near Burlington, Ontario [Canada] --- and hitting them farther than young bucks forty-five years his junior."
A couple or a few sentences later the writer points out that this is at the Carlisle Golf Club and mentions the reactions of the fifty on-lookers: Some gasped in awe, others shook their heads, some laughed incredulously. Moe responded to the laughter: "Don't laugh. Don't laugh. You'd cry if you could hit it this good." As near as I can tell I think the year is 1993, Moe would have been about 64. Not bad for a senior citizen clearing trees at the back of the range 270 yards away.
Later in the chapter it gives you an idea of how old he was. "In his early sixties in the early 1990's, Moe was still strong as a bull, hitting the ball as well as ever and still in great demand for clinics." A grey haired, senior citizen in his early sixties. Smacking the ball 270 yards according to Graves and capable of clearing trees at the back of the driving range that were 270 yards away.
Something I noted in this book. Moe Norman didn't care about distance. He cared about hitting the ball in the hole or at a target. At one point someone put a ball bag a hundred yards away and told Moe he would give him $5 each time he hit the bag. After Moe racked up $100 (20 hits) using various clubs from wedge to driver he put a stop to the bleeding. In todays dollars it's probably safe to say it would be $300 today. My point is that Moe was goal oriented, not distance oriented. Maybe not a minor point maybe it is.
Moe Norman obviously is best know for straight drives and fairway shots. But he could hook that ball and slice it at will. All depended on what he wanted to do with the golf ball. What's the point? So you have young guys trying to show how far they can hit the ball, and probably not straight most of the time. That, apparently was not Moe Norman. Not that he couldn't do that. He could hit that golf ball far by today's standards and not by the supposed standards of a senior citizen.
On one of these exhibition videos someone asked him if he could hit it further than 300 yards. He said he could hit it further but he couldn't guarantee it would stay on the fairway. That would probably be one of those times when Moe tried to hit it as hard as he could. That's when your drive would probably go left or right and not straight.
What good is it if you can hit the ball 350 yards of 400 yards but can't control the damn thing. It's a crap shoot as to whether the golfer can keep it on the fairway.
My contention is this: If Moe Norman, even when he was in his mid to late 60's and even early 70's wanted to hit a 300 yard drive, he would just do it and it would probably go straight like his 270 yard drives. If he wanted to hit it closer to 400 yards, maybe he could do it if he tried to kill it, but it probably wouldn't go straight. That's from every video I've seen, eye witness testimony, and this biography on Moe Norman. Even questioning the eye witness.
