as a young 14 years old teenager I caddied for a golfer from Alberta in the Quebec open in 67 or 68. one day I was in the same group as Moe and it was amazing to see him play. He was playing fast, was able to put a lot of spin, sometime he was hitting and not even looking where the ball was going because he knew he hit a good one. Of course he was a special golfer and human being but a treat for me to watch. He was friendly with caddies. I saw also Georges Knudson on the range also a very good ball striker. Good memories
I have a running conversation with Mo every morning on the course. Watching your videos and learning anything and everything about Mo changed my game. Thank you, and I cant wait for his movie to come out next year.
First of all I think that Moe is a golfing genius. He makes it look so easy. Secondly I wish you guys were based in the United Kingdom so I could get some lessons from you in person. Thanks for keeping the legend of Moe Norman alive . 😊
I first saw footage of moe 2 years ago. His ball striking was superb and i immediately set out to replicate it. Many fittings later, and totally forgetting about moe, and where i got mt swing from. i am now shooting low 80s on one of the hardest courses in my state. Moe, im glad i found you again. Youre going to make par with me. Like you have with so many other folks carrying your tradition.
Wow, low 80s on a really difficult golf course puts you in the upper echelons of golf elite. ⛳️ Have you ever played Pinehurst #2? That course looks easy. And by the time you walk off #1 green, you realize you're in for a very very very long day. It's a brutal test of golf and difficult for even top amateurs to break 100 there. Donald Ross is the man!!!
Moe gave me the confidence to use the baseball grip. I felt so uncomfortable using the “official golf grip” and was struggling. It took a few years starting in my late 40s to get down to a 2 handicap. I hit 500 balls a day in my apartment until I perfected my swing. I Thank moe for that.
I’ve always used a baseball grip. It’s the most comfortable grip for me. If I can somewhat hit the ball straight like Moe did and sacrifice distance, then I’m all in. I’m mostly a player that’s inconsistent and I really want to change that. Thank you for sharing these videos.
I've had numerous lessons and changed my swing , grip , posture everything and I was still failing all the time , chunks thins slices hooks and I was about to quit !! I watched moe norman on TH-cam and I went to the range and tried his swing today and honestly I left the range with a massive smile on my face ! I was hitting the ball straight constantly I am going to continue with this swing and fine tune it I honestly couldn't believe how easy it was ! I'm tall like 6 foot 2 so having my stance wider really helps me ! Cheers moe norman you legend r.i.p 🙏
Thanks so much for the video Mr.Graves. The most important thing I got from it was at the beginning. It was when Mr. Normon said you could stand next to him on his left side, and he would never hit you. I've learned so much from watching him. Thanks again sir.
I am self taught, never had a pro lesson but played lots of sports. I could break 100 but was stuck in the 90’s for 25 yrs. Ran in to back trouble and it got so bad I had zero confidence with a club in my hand. Wouldn’t even carry a driver in my bag. I was faced with quitting or learning properly once and for all. Took Graves golf academy online lessons. Watched every video I could of Moe. Spent a whole winter indoor golf completely rebuilding my whole swing from the ground up or as Todd and Moe would say, from the Impact position. With solid striking came added confidence. Summer came and I got to play a difficult private course. Shot 79 first time breaking 80. Week later shot 81 same track. Next game hit two flag sticks in the round shot 83 different track. Never been happier. Driver is now my confidence club and I can call my shot. Still need to improve with putter and short game but My appreciation level for Moe and Todd’s life quest to teach his rhythm man is out of this world honestly!
Like any great "artist", Moe was little known during his lifetime, (outside of golf circles) despite his ball-striking prowess. Thanks for maintaining his legacy and perpetuating the best golf swing ever. I use it every game and I would NEVER go back to conventional as my back would never allow it.
“Buckle” is his right knee bending on the way back. It created a stable post to rotate (away from the ball) around. He would then “Sit” into his downswing (his transition). Then he would “Slide” into the ball, which was his upper body rotating through the ball. He felt it as a lateral slide, but really it was just due to rotation. “Bump” was simply impact.
I think my favorite part of these old videos is just listening to the audience members in the background. Eventually there is always one person after 20 or so balls that you will hear laugh from amazement and disbelief. Would have been awesome to see one of Moe’s demos in person.
@@ToddGravesGolfTodd, you probably already thought of this but I was wondering if the quality of the video was too low to add Shot Tracer to it. It seems like the perfect angle to see that
So there’s this golfer named Marco Aref who might actually be the second coming of Moe. His swing just naturally looks just like him. He absolutely stripes it and quite similar to Moe, he hits roughly 600 balls per day. Currently the top ranked amateur in Canada and only getting better by the day. Keep a look out for him Todd, he really is something special. Thanks for posting!
Yup. Heard about him the other day on the course. People were saying he is the next Canadian Golf icon with Moe. Moe would have been happy to see someone falling in his footsteps. Deff a name to keep an eye out for.
Heard about this guy too... Apparently he had a tee time at a course in my area and there were swarms of people waiting for him to show up, but he never ended up coming
Hello Todd. I say this sincerely, “Moe Norman was a golfing genius, but unfortunately, Moe was ahead of his time. A time when the main swing focus was directed towards Hogan, Nicklaus & Snead, etc. How fortunate you were to have met with, and been taught by Moe, on a swing so simple as 1-2-3 (quoting Moe), and I believe it would be fair to say that Moe would be one, if not #1, of the top coaches, globally!” Tiger Woods said, “…only two golfers ever owned their swing, Ben Hogan & Moe Norman!” Lee Trevino said. “He’s Pipeline Moe, the greatest striker of a golf ball, ever!” Many laughed at this eccentric golfer from Canada, but thousands more loved to watch a genius, not at work, just having fun hitting millions of golf balls, everyday of his golfing life! …I ask you kindly and sincerely, “Will Graves Golfing Academy look towards the future of Moes’ legacy by establishing teaching academies internationally, in say - the UK, Australia/NZ and/or SE Asia?” I would be customer #1 when the Graves Academy first opened its doors in Melbourne, Australia. Any likelihood of that happening Mr Graves🙏😃? Many thanks for presenting these unique videos of Moe. I look forward to watching many more.🇦🇺👍
@Todd - 2:38 - The main thing that stood out immediately was when Moe said, "My wrists are never twisting!" This reminds me very much of what Steve Stricker does as well. One of the straightest hitters of the ball on the Chmapions Tour. Steve is tearing up that tour. AND FINALLY I got what Moe meant by, "I swing THROUGH the golf course, NEVER around it." Meaning, his hands are always pointing down the fairway or towards the target when he's finished.
Just remember that is a feeling, not reality. His hands do turn over each other and he turns it back up at the end with a little flourish. His head does move, he just doesn't feel like it does.
@@jasonkelley6185 exactly. Nothing against Moe, he certainly knew his swing but I've heard him say things then saw videos and he did some of the things he said he didn't. I've copied some of his ideas because I think they're valid though it's still not my day job. :) He is right about the wrist movement but it also limits distance, it's why tour players aren't using that type of swing. Quarterbacks need to use wrist movement to get stronger throws and there are other examples of how no wrist movement would limit power but I'm rambling.
Todd, Superb video saved in my archives. Your emphasis on taking videos to rapidly speed improvement is right on… it’s surprising what it reveals and is now a core part of my practice. Thanks for you and your team’s fabulous efforts. Best instruction anywhere to teach Moe’s model on how to hit a golf ball simply and consistently. Thank you, Moe!!
I find it interesting that the guy I just started taking lessons from has me doing pretty much all of this just with more of a traditional setup. Very cool stuff. Thanks
I see what you mean. Some of these he's hitting better than others. You can really see him sling it out there with most of these. The loading is so consistent. The downward motion is so essential to his swing. Most are coming up and pulling in. He's throwing snowballs here. Misses one slightly, corrects on the very next one. Moe was TGM before it was written. Thanks, Todd!
This is a great video Todd! thanks for sharing. My big takeaway is that Moe's hands are NEVER "behind" him on the backswing. Super inspiring. Heading to the backyard net to work on that!!!
I've been practicing the single plane and must admit it's the real deal. Now, I must admit my swing isn't the ideal single-plane swing because I haven't gotten used to the setup. The setup is uncomfortable and awkward, yet, it will allow me to repeat a feel of striking the ball better. Over time with more practice, I do think I'll fully adapt to the single-plane swing and play better golf. Thanks for your hard work putting these instructional videos together.
Todd I've watched hours of Moe and your analysis and videos as well. I know that Moe's descriptions of his swing were not always consistent with what was actually occurring. You've even made reference to this in some of your videos. My point here is that if you stood where Moe says to stand in that video he'd hit you in the head without a doubt. Moe always released to the left and brought the club back to straight in his final follow through. His "pulling the flag stick" move were after he released to the left. Regardless, the man was an absolute genius with a golf club in his hands. I'll continue to get as close as I can until I can no longer play the game. PS: Your videos and Plane Talk are priceless. One day I hope I'm fortunate enough to attend a school.
Remarcable man, never heard bout him before this year. I’m 62 and started golfing couple of years ago by all it means to start in such high age. This swing is far more handable to me, not saying I can do it yet. But it works much better than standard swing for me. And direction getting better🤠 It’s not so esthetic maybe and so what. It is much more funny hitting more good shots than less…
Love watching Moe totally a genius. There a video of Moe hitting balls in front of a wooden fence, and in the video you can see 4 apartment buildings in the distance. This is Oakdale golf course in Toronto, this years Canadian open
I think it's important whenever Watching his videos is to try and listen to the SOUND of the contact. Solid contact has a certain sound and every single one of them have that sound.
51 years of golf with scoliosis, a sub-par golfer, has forced me to "recover" from injury at least 30 times. Moe and Bruce Lee helped me build the One Plane Swing that allows me to hit the ball 400 yds. Circumstance keeps me away from the course today, but it's not me... it's just bad luck. Last time out I was around 330 yds, and 2 under on the par 3s. I don't need 3 months to get my game back any more. It's back on the 1st hole.
@Todd, I am fellow Canadian, and love Moe and what a great personally he was, his poem, "robot" I remember. thanks for the hope alive... But you should also educate the pro's about this lost legacy, rather than to position it for only old folks...
I have trained myself to swing this way . I studied and copied many others. His method is stupidly easy . My son is a strong boy starting golf .This method is easy to teach and spares your back . Once it clicks in ,you wonder why you struggled for thirty years
What you can’t tell is the size of Moe Norman’s hands. Because he had custom extended grips it is very hard to see. On a conventional grip it is very noticeable. Like Mr Hogan, Norm kept his left arm close to the left breast pocket … never locked his legs and followed through down his target line …
Would you say Lee Trevino swing was similar? Good video! Just subscribed. I’m 65 and love golf, but through my career my handicap keeps creeping up. Thanks
Did Moe use the 10 finger grip later in life to help him square the clubface easier. I am right handed. With my right hand I have tried 1 finger on the club and 2 on the club, then overlap and then all fingers on the club. It seems as I put more fingers on the club, one at a time, that each time I add a finger on the club the face squares just a bit more each time. Oh yeah I watch all of the older videos you do, learn a bunch, thanks Todd!
Does he say “I feel like I am going to take a s..t on the downswing like sitting on a toilet?!” Saw him do a demo with you at orange national during one of your first schools and golf tournament. Was incredible; not sure if I took any video but never been able to find it although always looking. Played on team with billy golden who was a character himself believe I told u we normally paid him with a bottle or two. Full disclosure it may have still been a NG school. We came in first or second which is still the highlight of golf career although we likely only used a shot or two of mine.
Todd, do you know the distance Moe used to get from his different clubs? I want to keep it simple but the distance goes way down which is already down to begin with. Thanks.
I've watched a lot of yours and Moe's videos. I have a question. Where do your eyes concentrate on when you swing. Club, top of ball, behind the ball (how far).
Good stuff Todd. Thanks for sharing this. I've never seen Moe chunk or shank one in all his videos. Do you know Kirk Junge by any chance? I think he's another guy who has studied Moe's style.
Hi Todd. The spectator mentions Moe is hitting the 6 iron 180 yards. Is that true?I don’t doubt it) I love moes swing and just watching you guys makes me hit it better. Just curious around distances. My very first teacher said. Hit em straight, you’ll play great Hit em long, you’ll soon go wrong. So no criticism just curiosity. Thanks again for all you do. You’re a credit to golf and Mor.
Hey Todd, Might be a dumb question but did moe ever mimic Hogans swing or Trevinos while you were watching him, just to show you he could swing like them if he wanted to?
Robert. I will be in Orlando Next weekend if you wanted to come to Eagle Creek / Orlando. I have a bit of time on the 16,17 afternoon. Email me at toddg@gravesgolf.com if you are interested.
Seems like Moe Norman and the Graves golf technique helps to eliminate the "Paralysis by Analysis" mental blocks. Don't think about too much. Just strike the ball.
Todd, Just like Hogan, John Schlee and other gifted athletes, Moe's short backswing is re-routed, ie. shallowed at the top (his magic vertical drop move). For the average middle age recreational player who naturally has an over the top move, would not learning to do this be a virtually impossible task?
Here’s the thing. Moe was a professional golfer. Pros in most sports make what they do look incredibly simple, even when insanely hard. Is Moe’s swing the solution to golf for an average athlete? I assume that it’s about as hard to copy Moe as it would be to copy Nicklaus. I saw Nicklaus give a clinic once, and guess what? He hit every ball as clean as Moe, put every shot exactly where he said he would, and made it look really simple.
Ok, It looks to me like Moe is the typical good golfer that believes he's doing something that is simply and empirically untrue. He says he never rotates and swings "pendulous," but if you step through the swings you can clearly see his arms rotating through and after impact. He also said, "Never right or left" but he pulled a bunch of those shots! The dispersion is huge. Some are going right, some straight and some left. Sure, you can say he's just hitting balls here but he's pretty much aimed in the same direction on almost every shot. I think if Moe ever looked at his swing in slow motion on video he'd be quite surprised. I love Moe's confidence. He may have been the most confident golfer in history.
watch any video where you can hear the gallery talking they're absolutely amazed of the consistency. pro's who've witnessed him including tiger verify the gallery.
@@jerryswindle You're most likely correct. I was just watching this and thought If I put a shot tracer on those shots they'd be all over the place. I'm tempted ...

When I was playing often I was a +1.3 and that was just a few years ago. The golf courses in So Cal have gone to shit. They can't water them properly any more and most of the fairways are nearly dirt and hardpan. If you pay attention, you can go through the comments on my videos and see that many, many people report "shooting the best score of their life" after watching or finally being able to hit a golf ball properly. Personally, I don't care if a person is 5 years old and a moron, if I can learn from that person, I will. Also, I like Moe's swing and his philosophy. I like his younger swing a lot, which I have a video of my channel. If you want to have a discussion, don't be a jerk.
@@kevinscroggins4198 So I got a copy of the video and put a shot tracer on the balls. It's worse than I thought. They're all over the place in direction AND TRAJECTORY. Some low left clearly off the heal, some high right off the toe and several good shots that are down the middle.
Wrist turning is habit, u have to practice by yourself, so each shot is you discipline to yourself, keep wrist from moving. A bowling glove, And start with swings 20% back, lock wrist whole time, then 30,40,50, all short swings, don't matter yet where ball goes, just training wrist new habit, long practice sessions will do it quicker, in no time, you'll have new habits.
Yeah, I never could square the club face with a traditional grip. Instructors wanted hand roll and I just hung onto the club and came into impact with the face open. This grip of Moe's is so easy to do and I never had to really alter the feeling cause it was basically the same.

I think it's important whenever Watching his videos is to try and listen to the SOUND of the contact. Solid contact has a certain sound and every single one of them have that sound.
Thank you Todd for the video!
Thanks, appreciate all the wonderful details you shared with us.
Moe just makes it look so easy.👍
He Does.
I never get tired of watching Moe hit balls.. "Watch this..."
@Todd, I am fellow Canadian, and love Moe and what a great personally he was, his poem, "robot" I remember. thanks for the hope alive...
But you should also educate the pro's about this lost legacy, rather than to position it for only old folks...
Thank for the video Todd. I'll save it and will watch it... Good phycology for me when going to the range and before the game...
Love it.
Thanks, Todd! 👍🏻 NORCAL BAZ 55yr with blown L5. Have not tried the swing yet, but I'm looking forward to trying. Have not played for years. 🤙🏼✌🏼
Take it correctly and slowly.
Thanks
What a great video! Thanks for sharing Todd!!
Does he say “I feel like I am going to take a s..t on the downswing like sitting on a toilet?!”
Saw him do a demo with you at orange national during one of your first schools and golf tournament.
Dude at 6:47 “Oh Moe’s hitting, yeah I’ll be fine”
Todd, do you know the distance Moe used to get from his different clubs? I want to keep it simple but the distance goes way down which is already down to begin with. Thanks.
Love watch this guy. Wish he was still around. I'd love to go to see him in person.
Me too
I've watched a lot of yours and Moe's videos. I have a question. Where do your eyes concentrate on when you swing. Club, top of ball, behind the ball (how far).
Can you post a video talking about how to know if you're the right distance from the ball in front of you, and how much to be bent over at the waist?
Hello Todd. A huge thank you for your help. I noticed I have to TUCK my elbow into my side to hit it. I see Moe does not. Can you explain that?
Good stuff Todd. Thanks for sharing this. I've never seen Moe chunk or shank one in all his videos.
Do you know Kirk Junge by any chance? I think he's another guy who has studied Moe's style.
The crazy thing is, he just keeps hitting ball after ball, every 2-3 seconds, every one of them probably within a 15 foot radius.
Thank you!
Lol. “As soon as I go back it’s like taking a s**t. “ This is something easy to remember
Can u post the video that you`re friend that played on the Canadian Tour gave you the first time u heard of Moe Norman?
Ill do that one next
@@ToddGravesGolf Ty sir!
Moe Was A Treasure "The Golf Swing Is Like Taking A Shit" 🤣
Love this Video!!!
Todd, is this the FIRST TIME he explains clearly his Vertical Drop?
By vertical drop, does he just mean slow at the top, which seems to feel that way as you avoid rushing the downswing?
Did more modify his clubs for that swing? Were they upright, flat? Obviously he has the long grip and he seems to always be choking down..
This should have a million views,I love this man game is so easy it's laughable lol
Great stuff. Quick question: From watching Moe I'm guessing he had NO swing keys in his head before he pulled the trigger. Is that right? Thanks.
When you become fully competent in a skill, through practice, it becomes automatic. No swing keys or thoughts.
Hi Todd. The spectator mentions Moe is hitting the 6 iron 180 yards. Is that true?I don’t doubt it)
I love moes swing and just watching you guys makes me hit it better.
Just curious around distances.
My very first teacher said.
Hit em straight, you’ll play great
Hit em long, you’ll soon go wrong.
So no criticism just curiosity.
Thanks again for all you do. You’re a credit to golf and Mor.
Can’t remember where but someone checked his swing speed when he in his 60’s and it was 110mph with the driver arhat point.
Wish the spectator would stay out of the camera...I want to see Mo.
A great hand path and great putting and you have great golf
Moe Norman. "Teaching today sucks..." 😆hallelujah!
Hey Todd, Might be a dumb question but did moe ever mimic Hogans swing or Trevinos while you were watching him, just to show you he could swing like them if he wanted to?
All those shots and not a word about distance. How far does a 7 iron go? Can his method get on a 420 yard par 4 in two shots? Thanks.
Driver, 9 iron for me. Distance isn’t a problem .
Todd, are you planning any Moe Norman golf instruction in or near The Villages, FL 32162?
How can I get more single plane golf training ??
I need help..
clarity, strategy and execution. Please Email me at toddg@gravesgolf.com. I can help you structure a plan. clarity, strategy and execution.
Hey Todd, can you put this video somewhere on the on demand app?
I will put the full version there. Thanks.
Man! I wish I could have a short backswing like Moe....
You can. Practice. Measure.
Moe is "divot conscious" repeatedly 😊
I notice he shortens the shaft by gripping a couple of inches down the grip.
Backswing with Hands. Downswing with Arms.
Moe Knows!
Hello Todd! How old is Moe in this video?
whoa the greens keeper would have a few choice words for moe
FOUNTAIN HILLS AZ, right at address he looks like he's lined up right on the hosel. is that true? thanks.
Yes
Here’s the thing. Moe was a professional golfer. Pros in most sports make what they do look incredibly simple, even when insanely hard. Is Moe’s swing the solution to golf for an average athlete? I assume that it’s about as hard to copy Moe as it would be to copy Nicklaus. I saw Nicklaus give a clinic once, and guess what? He hit every ball as clean as Moe, put every shot exactly where he said he would, and made it look really simple.
Bruce Lee said the highest level of cultivation runs to simplicity. I think Moe would agree.
Moe's stance seems slightly open.. is that right?
slightly open with irons, slightly closed with woods.
@@kevinscroggins4198 Aren't you high and mighty. So, why is Moe unquestionable? BTW, do you think your scores go up if you found out your wife was cheating, got a divorce, moved out, you got a bladder infection that caused bizarre kidney pain, your home course closed, and you were too depressed to practice? Thanks for asking ...
@@kevinscroggins4198 What does Butch Harmon or David Ledbetter shoot? How about Hank Haney? Can Chris Como beat Tiger or Matt Wolff? If so, why isn't he on tour? If not, how can he teach a player better than himself?
I'm not playing as well as I used to, you're right. It's not been a very fun couple years for me.
Chris dimarco almost smoked tiger with this very same swing...🤔
Can I get an "aye" from Chris himself???🤔😅😅🙆
The one takeaway I learned, Moe said he doesn't roll his wrists over at impact.
Wrist turning is habit, u have to practice by yourself, so each shot is you discipline to yourself, keep wrist from moving.
A bowling glove,
And start with swings 20% back, lock wrist whole time, then 30,40,50, all short swings, don't matter yet where ball goes, just training wrist new habit, long practice sessions will do it quicker, in no time, you'll have new habits.
Yeah, I never could square the club face with a traditional grip. Instructors wanted hand roll and I just hung onto the club and came into impact with the face open. This grip of Moe's is so easy to do and I never had to really alter the feeling cause it was basically the same.
It’s rare to say this about someone you never talked to but over the years you just start to love this guy!!! Genuinely feel for him.
He’s a beautiful soul
YEs.
Yes.
Amazing tempo ... One-thousand (backswing) -- ONE (downswing)!
Effortless.
Great
DOES he use the baseball grip??
No
What then IS his grip Todd?? He said he puts the right hand on his “lifeline”. 🤯

Thank you very much, Todd!
Mo was never in danger of hitting the man walking up the range.
Truly outstanding, it should be the 8th wonder of the world!!>>🙂
Agree.
"Hogan and I are different!" Moe was wise. Not that either one should be copied by us mortals.
