If you’re trying to use an Xbox Gift Card and having some problems I’ll go through a few issues in this video you might run into. These tips may or may not help you but here are three of the most common problems people run into when using Xbox Gift Cards.
1. First there’s the invalid gift card error. If you see this message you may have entered the 25-digit code wrong. Retype the code and try it again. If it’s still not working, it’s possible that the cashier from the store you purchased the Xbox Gift Card from didn’t activate the card. You should’ve gotten a receipt with an activation confirmation on it. If not, take the card back to the store and have them activate it.
2. The second problem you might have is when you try to use your gift card is that the Xbox asks for a profile address or zip code. In this situation you’ll have to fill out your billing address on the Xbox or at Xbox.com. Also Xbox Gift Cards are region locked so they can only be used in the country or region it was purchased in because of varying currency rates. For example, if you bought an Xbox Gift Card in the UK, you won’t be able to use it in the US. So just be aware of the source of your gift cards.
3. And the final issue you might see is when the Xbox asks for a “Payment method” or says “How do you want to pay the rest?” when you’re trying to use Xbox Gift Card money. In this case it’s probably because you don’t have enough gift card money to complete the purchase because of the added tax. For example, you want to buy a game that’s $24.99 and you have $25 in gift card money. You won’t have enough to buy the game because of tax. So you’ll have to use a credit card or add more gift card money to finish the purchase.
Using Xbox Gift Cards should be a pretty simple process but I made this video to answer some of the most frequently asked questions I see on my channel. That's interesting! Do you know that all the gift cards you redeemed in your account is actually from your country? I'm not sure that's the issue. But you can try to buy your game by logging into Xbox.com and purchasing it there to see if there's any difference. Hopefully it will show more than 3 cents in your account.

Hmmm? Where did you buy your gift card? Did you buy it from a legitimate source? Did you know Xbox Gift Cards are region locked because of currency rates in different countries. It could be that you have a card from another region which is why it asked for your address information? I'm not sure what else you can do. Maybe log into your account at Xbox.com and try to redeem it there. But it's highly likely that the card you're using is from another country.

Sorry you're having issues with your gift card. Sounds like the store did activate the card. Can you try to redeem your card by logging into your account at Xbox.com. You can redeem it there and see if it works. If not then you'll have to ask the store or may have to contact Microsoft so see what's going on. Hope you get this resolved!

Is this the password to your account? I think I might've had that happen once where I couldn't log in. Eventually it let me. It might be a problem with an Xbox server. Sometimes issues pop up when the console can't connect to it's online servers. Hope you got it to work!

Is it possible that your gift card came from another country or region? Maybe you were able to redeem it but if the funds are in another currency you won't be able to use it where you live now? You definitely have enough to cover the tax so that's not an issue. One thing you can try is to log into your account at Xbox.com and make your purchase there to see if it works.

For some incredibly dumb reason, Microsoft made it so that redeeming Xbox gift cards will NOT work if you do it through an Xbox 360 system. If you try to redeem the code, you will only ever get a "This code is invalid" error.
The funds on the gift card(s) CAN still be used on the Xbox 360 however, assuming you redeem the gift card(s) on a computer or an Xbox One system. To do this using a PC, log into your Microsoft or Bing account associated with your Xbox 360 system, then follow this link:

Once there, all you have to do is type in the 25-character code on the gift card and the funds will be added directly to your Microsoft account for use on the Xbox 360.

Did you buy the gift card at a local store? If so maybe you can see if they have a record of your purchase. Or maybe you can contact Microsoft and see what they can do. Both are long shots but worth a try!

Have you checked to see if you have enough gift card money to cover the added tax? Also if you are buying a subscription service like Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass you won't be able to use the gift card money for those subscriptions unless you have a credit card associated with your account. It'll still ask how do you want to pay the rest if you don't have the credit card in your account.

There might be a server issue on the Microsoft side. I currently see an issue on the Xbox server status website. That might be why you can’t redeem your gift cards right now. You can check here: support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live-status

@@reptar3100, I figured it out but you’ll need to know your Microsoft account email just in case you haven’t. Either go on your computer, phone, or iPad (which I used) and look up Microsoft redeem and it should show up. It don’t need to be in the Xbox app as long as you’re in your Microsoft account using the Xbox. I redeemed it there and it finally worked. Hopefully they’ll resolve the Xbox glitch but if it don’t work next time, just log into Microsoft and redeem the code.

Okay, it mught be because the stire didn't activate the card because the cashiers don't run the registers anymore but usually when I get a card it activates it. I'm not happy. I purchased a $25 xbox gift card to buy add ons for Oblivion. I redeemed the gift card and entered the 25 digit code and it said successful, your microsoft account balance is $25 USD. That's weird? You definitely have enough money to buy the DLC. That error message doesn't seem to be correct because that's exactly what Xbox Gift Card money is for. Have you tried it again?

So Microsoft is telling you that the 4th character can’t be a #1? And they didn’t give you any suggestions? Could it be a capital “I”? Also try redeeming the code on your computer by signing into Xbox.com and see if you get a different result. Hopefully you get your code working!

You'd have to go back to Walmart but without a receipt it would be hard to prove that you purchased the Xbox Gift Card there. Unless Walmart's registers can keep track of your purchases by looking up your credit card transactions there. Does Walmart have a club card? If so and you used it during your purchase they'd probably have a record of everything you've bought there.

Did you fill out your profile address? See if it works after you fill out that info. Hopefully your gift card is from the same region/country that you live in. The gift cards are region locked and have to be used in the country/region where it was purchased in. Not sure if that's the issue you're having. Hope this helps!

Where did you buy your gift card? If it was online you should have a copy in your email. If the code was only on the receipt then it's pretty much gone! You could go back to the place you bought the code and see if they have a record of it. Otherwise there's not much you can do at this point!

Missing letters on an Xbox gift card is frustrating! But in the comments of this video it appears that other viewers have been able to recover their Xbox gift card code by contacting Xbox support. So it seems that even though you don’t have the whole code there is possibly a way you can get the full 25 digits and redeem the card.

Are you trying to buy something on the Xbox in the same country that your Xbox Gift Card money is from? Gift card money is region locked so where you are trying to make the purchase will matter.

Try this. Log into your account at Xbox.com and see if your money shows up there. You can also buy games on the Xbox website. See if that works. When you buy the game online you'll have to find it in the Ready to Download section on your Xbox and manually start the download/installation.

It says that the card has not been activated and to contact the merchant. Does that mean that I have to go back to the store and get it activated? If so, this sucks because the card was gotten for me for Christmas so I definitely don't have the receipt and I have no idea where they got the card from.
Yes! Unfortunately you will have to go back to the store with proof of purchase/receipt to have them activate the card. Usually it’s done at the cash register. However it’s going to be impossible to have it activated if you done have a receipt or know where it was purchased from. That info will have to be tracked down.
Anyone having a problem with the code not going through? It shows what the code is and after I try redeeming it, it just stops and says there’s a problem on their side.
I think there was a server problem with Microsoft the other day which is why you couldn't redeem your gift card. Have you tried it again?

Not sure why your gift card money isn't showing up. One thing you can do is log into your account at Xbox.com and redeem your code there to see if it works. You can also check your balance there too. Hope this helps!

If it’s not working on your Xbox console try to redeem it by logging into your account at redeem.microsoft.com. If it accepts your code it will show up on your console. Hope this helps!

That seems weird that the United States isn't listed! Try restarting your Xbox by holding down the power button until it turns off. Then wait about a minute and turn it on and try it again. You can also log into your account at Xbox.com and do it there. Hope this helps!

Hmmm! I guess you can contact Microsoft and see what they say. Can you go back to the store and talk to another cashier and have them check to see if your card was actually activated? Just to be sure?

Adding Xbox Gift Cards to your Xbox shouldn't affect your PayPal account. When you have Xbox Gift Card money on your account it will use the gift card money first whenever you buy something. If for some reason you don't have enough gift card money, the Xbox will use your PayPal account to pay the rest of the purchase price. Hope this helps!

Yeah if you bought an Xbox Live Gold card from the store your subscription is fully paid for and all you have to do is redeem the code. The only thing I can think of at this point is whether or not you have an unpaid balance with Microsoft? That will keep you from doing a lot of things on your Xbox. But you talked to tech support and they couldn't tell you why? One last thing you can try is to log into your account at Xbox.com and redeem the code there to see if it works.

I just went to walmart and bought a 50$ card and the strangest thing happened (I have bought hundreds of these cards before) after I scratched it I noticed the final column had only 3 digits, I knew this was odd right away as its usually 5 sets of 5 digits, so I though ok this is probably bad but maybe they changed it for some reason, so I went to enter the code and of course it said, "enter the full 25 digits" so I went online and googled it and I guess it is a thing some sort of misprint, I have no clue how i'm gonna get refunded but hopefully I dont get screwed here, this SUCKS!
With numbers missing that is definitely a printing mistake! If you have your receipt see if the store can get you a new card. If not you’ll have to contact Microsoft and explain your situation. Sorry, there aren’t any other choices with missing characters like that. Hope you get it resolved soon so you don’t lose your money!

Sorry you're having issues with your Xbox Gift Card! Do you know the source of the card/code? Was it from a legitimate seller? I know people can scam those cards somehow but I think it's rare? But for now it seems like the gift card/code has already been used by someone else. I only buy my gift cards at Xbox.com or I buy a physical gift card from a local store. If you buy from random websites you never know what you're going to get. Plus you run the risk of buying a gift card from another country which won't work unless you live in the country that the card/code was issued too. But maybe you can contact Microsoft about the gift card and see what they say. Hope this helps!

Did the $25 ever show up in your account? Try logging into your account and see if it shows a the correct amount in your profile. Is it possible that you redeemed the $25 into a different account than yours?
The problem I have is i have a gold card and I put it in my xbox but then it wont let me play multiplayer or do anything online... what do I do?
Do you know where you bought your Gold card? Is it from a reputable seller? I recently found out that Gold cards were recently region locked just like Xbox Gift Cards. So if it came from another country you won't be able to use it. Can you check on your subscriptions tab on your Xbox to see if there's an expiration date for the Gold you just redeemed? Just for future reference, the best way to buy a Gold card is from a local store.
My card keeps saying code not found so I took it back to the store where they activated it again but it still isnt working. What on earth could it be? The receipt says successful activation and the store told me if it still doesnt work to contact Microsoft.

Is your code a 25 digit code? If not then it’s probably a third party code that needs to be redeemed on the website of the company that issued it. Official Microsoft codes are always 25 digits. The instructions you got about redeeming on a webpage is correct if it’s not a Microsoft code. Once you redeem this third party code they should issue you an official Microsoft code. Hope this helps!

i bought a 50 pound gift card from morrisons they gave me the gift card and the receipt, then when i redeemed it on my phone it said you need to activate this giftcard, i told morrisons about this then they said to contact xbox, what shall i do?
I think Morrisons will have to do the activating. Are you able to go back to the store and have them check it? As long as you have your receipt and they're willing to check it. I think if you contact Microsoft they will also tell you to go back to the retailer where you bought your gift card.

Maybe you need to do a hard reboot of your Xbox console. To do that have your Xbox turned on. Then press and hold the power button down on the front of the Xbox for 10 seconds until it shuts off. Wait about 30 seconds before turning it back on. This reboot will clear any issues stuck in its memory cache. Sign back in and try redeeming your code. You can also sign into your account at Xbox.com and try redeeming your code there. After you do that you should see the money on your Xbox. Hope this helps!

Hmmm! If you bought the card locally it should be for your region. Is it a reputable store? This can be tricky trying to explain to the store what happened. If you have your receipt you can try to see if the store can do anything for you.
