  • Hello friends our apologies for the delay in videos. Here is a recipe for 'moutzentra' which is a Cypriot recipe. It is so simple and so tasty with only three main ingredients (rice, green lentils, onions) along with olive oil and salt and pepper. Surprisingly delicious and very easy to make. We hope you enjoy this and if you have any requests for future recipes please let us know.

I like the recipe apart from all that olive oil used to cook the onions. I will try that recipe but with the onions sauteed in some vegetable stock.

I love how simple and healthy this is. I also loved hearing the birds in your yard/garden. I’ll be making this for dinner.

Gonna try your recipe exactly as you've documented.
Might however add a few ingredients to your clever high protein recipe on the second attempt.
Thanks to your video, I feel inspired to add mushrooms, garlic, fresh spinach, and possibly roasted spaghetti squash to your yummy browned onions, lentils, and rice dish. 😊
    Thank you kind sir 🌹

Has anyone ever tried to cook lentils and rice together? Lentils appear to require 3 times the amount of water as lentils and rice only 2 times the water amount as rice. So would 5 cups of water be right for one cup of lentils and one cup of rice cooked together? I will have to experiment. It seems to me that too many pots were being used in this recipe. Pouring out the water after the lentils have come to a boil seems to me to be pouring nutrition down the drain. But what do I know.

Brown rice and green lentils boil well together. I saute the onions, then add water rice and lentils and let it cook

@@firstnamelastname7347 This sounds great. Do you have to rinse the lentils before you boil them?

I don't know what this draining rice business is all about. I Googled it and as expected I found that it's at least one way rice is cooked in India so I guess that's where this comes from with English cooking, I saw a Jamie Oliver video where even he mentions draining the rice. I would suggest watching some other videos on how to make rice properly or get a rice cooker cuz that wet slimy rice is gross. This recipe would be better with brown basmati rice and some spices. I also agree with fingerstylefan about the oil, little to much.

      hi jettron1,
the recipe can be adjusted to suit you pallet,
personally I love olive oil so I use it liberally
as far as the rice is concerned I.drain it although I possess a rice cooker still prefer to drain it.
the reason for this is you can control the consistence so it is not soggy.
you can also add veg like spinach or broccoli if you wish, and spices can be added.
      thank you for the comments.
