How to Install Sling Swivel Studs in a Rifle Stock

This is the third video on my Richard's Rifle Stock for my Savage 111 chambered in 30-06. The first video was finishing the stock with Birchwood Casey Tru-oil. The second video was installing a grind to fit KICK-EEZ Recoil Pad. And now I show you how to install sling swivel studs in a wood gun stock.
It's an easy process you'll need sling studs that are readily available. Blue Painters tape, Calipers, a Cordless Drill and a Wrench. These studs are used to mount a sling to carry the rifle and attach a bi-pod for prone or bench-rest shooting

I wanted to thank you for this video. I lost my father in 2012 and shortly after this my mother called me over and gave me his Marlin 336. I'd forgot about this rifle because he was a Viet Nam veteran and gunshots in the woods put him in a bad place. I grew up hunting with my Uncles and cousins in East Texas,some of my greatest days. Thanks for the video! I recently bought a Marlin Model 25MN and it doesn't have any sling attachments at all and I wanted to put a bipod on it so I watched your video and installed them today - it looks great and works perfectly! I basically knew the process overall but it was good to get confirmation from this video and the little details helped such as using the center punch and adding tape to the drill bit to get the depth correct.

If you read the instructions you’re actually supposed to use two different drill bits to create a small counter bore. If you want it to look really nice a third counterbore will let you slightly countersink the studs but this method I. The video will work, but you risk some splintering or even splitting

How do you get the angle of the hole you are drilling, especially the one on the butt portion of the stock, correct? It could cant either angle, and that is my fear when doing this. I don't have a drill press, so I was thinking the way to go would be putting it in a vice? I don't have the guts to do it freehand like you did.

Nice Video, one ? if it's a laminate stock what could you do to prevent the laminate from cracking? How is the studs and the laminate holding up on that 30-06? I am thinking of purchasing the 17hmr Savage with the Barracuda stock, but want to add the swivel stud so I can add a Henry style bi-pod.

Larry Jenkins you should run a tap into the stock to cut the threads, rather than letting the stud threads force their way into the hole.

Ok, you said you have two different studs one for the stock and the other for the forend, but you did not show which is which?
