      After using the GH7 for a couple months now, I'm glad I upgraded. Not having to worry about AF means I can leave the camera alone to let it do its thing. And 32-bit float audio has saved me on a few occasions. Glad I upgraded and hope you like it too 😄

      Thank you. So far I'm really happy with its performance. The GH5 was no slouch, but the GH7 really takes it up a few notches.

    I have two GH5s, one GH5 Mk2, and one GH6. With all my cameras I use Atomos Ninja Vs and I also record internally as a backup. On the GH6 I don’t used an external SSD as I need the USB-C to power the camera. I have a 2 TB CF Express card where I record 5.7K ProRes. This not only gives me backup but I can also punch in and get a little closer. I shoot Multicam live theatre, concerts, and dance shows. I use the focus limiter on my GH6 to prevent pulsing. I am interested in getting the GH7 because of the autofocus.

      Thanks for the comment! With the focus limiter on the GH6, does it prevent pulsing for you? I tried it when I had my GH6, but I found that I still got pulsing backgrounds because the camera would continue to hunt for focus within the range that I had set. It was usually noticeable with out of focus specular highlights in the background.

      Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! I've been using the GH7 for a few weeks now, and I think it is a worthy upgrade. It has really breathed new life into my m43 system!
      By the way, nice channel! I'll check out your videos. We were just in Texas for a visit earlier this year and plan to go back. :)

    I am on the GH5 II, andf love it. I do have a savings account for the GH7, but it will be a couple of years before I can get the new camera. Life, unfortunately, gets in the road of our WANTS, and my absolute NEEDS are serviced by the GH5 II.

    • @HaveCameraNowWhat
      @HaveCameraNowWhat  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The GH5 II is a great camera. It improved on a lot of things that the GH5 lacked due to changes in technology. Glad you're enjoying yours and can keep using it.
      For me, the upgrade to the GH7 made sense since it provides significant improvements over the original GH5. The GH6 did as well, but the lack of PDAF was really a problem for how I need to use it.

      @@HaveCameraNowWhat I don’t have one. But, after being a GH4 owner, being a GH5 owner, and a GH6 owner…I can already tell what the GH7 is doing and capable of. Iwas super close to buying one but, I went the S5ii route. Happy w/ it for sure…but I’d be lying if I wasn’t peaking at it lol.

      Ah. I thought I was going to switch over to full frame after the GH6, but the GH7 pulled me back to m43 again. I'm using it alongside the S5IIX, and they play nicely together 😃

  • @brgphotography

    Looks like you bought it at ビックカメラ。Always nice to find another creator out here. Also great video. I' want to eventaully upgrade to the GH7 from my GH5 mainly because of the PDAF. For some of the viideo work I do out here, it would be extremely useful. Also really want the red recording frame. There have been so many times when I thought I was recording when I wasn't. Especially when I'm shooting live events, and am constantly moving around, stopping recording, starting recording, paying attention to my surrounding, that I'll think i hit record when I didn't.
    I actaully haven't bought it yet because the big stores don't offer the usual 10% points like they do with all their other products.

    • @HaveCameraNowWhat
      @HaveCameraNowWhat  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Haha! Yes, I bought it at ビックカメラ. It seems like Panasonic doesn't allow, or give enough of a margin for retailers to do the usual bonus points for purchases. I even had a Bic Camera coupon when I bought the GH7, but in the fine print it mentioned that "some Panasonic products are excluded"... which, of course, the GH7 was excluded.
      The red recording frame and tally lights should have been #9 on my list! I had overlooked those features, but they are very helpful to have. One thing I started doing (and also get my assistants to do when I have them) is use "intentional action" where you literally point at the thing you are doing and say it out loud, "Recording" as I confirm the red dot is blinking or frame is red. This technique has been proven to reduce accidents for seemingly small tasks that people are prone to do without much thought. You can see the JR and Metro staff doing it when checking for anything out of place when trains come and go.
      Nice TH-cam channel you've got there. I haven't tried Affinity Photo, but it looks interesting.
      Thanks for watching and posting the comment. I appreciate it!

    Hi, I bought the GH5 since it's release, I loved it, despite I add to use manual focus only.I bought the GH6 at its release as well, its a great camera. This time I was disapointed as Panasonic kept the same autofocus system. But I kept it along with the GH5 as I liked the ProRes codec and the images out of the camera. Soon I'll get the GH7 for the autofocus and the 32bits audio, this time I'll be able to shoot cars on race tracks without an external 32 bits audio recorder, I'm excited about it. I think I'll keep the GH5 & GH6. I hope Panasonic will permit to record 32bits audio on the GH6 with a firmware release. For the GH5, I think it still a very capable great camera with a very good log profile.
    I'm still hesitating getting a FF camera, how to you like yours? Hoe does it match with your M43 cameras?

      Hi, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. We have a similar path with the GH cameras (except that I don't shoot cars on race tracks!).
      I bought the GH5 at release and still have it. It's a great camera that has served me well, but it is getting old.
      I bought the GH6 at release and used it for a while. My biggest disappointment was that they stayed with the old contrast detect autofocus system... and then they released the G9II with phase detect shortly after the GH6. I was, honestly, quite upset about that. I held onto the GH6 for about a year and a half before selling it and buying another S5IIX.
      I kept the GH5 because it was still a capable camera... which ultimately led to this comparison video about upgrading from the GH5 to GH7.
      I doubt they will add 32-bit float to the GH6. They already released a GH6 firmware update that at least allows it to use the new XLR2 adapter, but without 32-bit float. I guess the camera itself just isn't capable of recording that audio format.
      I bought the S5 when it was released, thinking I would slowly move away from the GH series.
      Each system has its strengths and weaknesses, and I don't have any pressure to sell off my m43 system, so I think I will keep both.
      Honestly, I use the S5IIX with the 24-105mm lens as my main everyday camera now. The GH7 stays mounted on a tripod in my studio most of the time, but I do prefer it as my travel camera because its lenses are much more compact.
      I find that the GH7 leans quite magenta compared to the S5IIX, even with manually setting the white balance on both. I could adjust the tint in camera, I suppose... but usually I adjust it in post production for now. Aside from that, I think the GH7 and S5IIX go quite well together.
      Sorry for the overly long answer! 😅

      @themoonshell-F4LFJ 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@HaveCameraNowWhat Thanks for the comprehensive answer! OK, so I'll get the GH7 & the XLR2 module for sure and I may get a S5IIx with the 24-105mm later this year.
      Maybe like you, I have an expensive set of M43 Lenses (Fujinon MKs, 10-25mm & 25-50 f1.7, 50-200mm f2.8-4, the 100-400mm, the 12-35mm & 35-100mm...and some primes) so I won't give up the Panasonic M43 system anytime soon, and franckly the images out of the GH6 are fantastic.
      In an other hand, In 2016 I use to have the Sony FS5 for a year, I can say the ergonomy of this camera is great, much better than the mirrorless cameras. I have hesitated to buy an FX6 but the innability to have 4k resolution in S35 mode make hold the purchase (as I could not enjoy the Funion MKs with it). And the downside of this camera is that it-s not compact at all, not good for travelling.

    Thank you for sharing this, I been using the GH5 and G9m1 for some time now, my question is; How to does it compare in still with G9m2.Thanks.

    • @HaveCameraNowWhat
      @HaveCameraNowWhat  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I considered the G9m2 when I sold my GH6, but I've never actually used one. I imagine that stills from the G9m2 would be very similar to, if not the same as the GH7, but in a slightly more compact body. But I shoot a lot of video and really wanted the 32-bit float and tilt out screen on the GH7, so I went that route instead.
      If you mainly shoot stills and only the occasional video, I'm sure the G9m2 would be great!

    the only thing i really dont like about gh7 is that they removed 4k open gate mode. you hear right there is NO 4k in open gate in this camera. sadly 4k50 open gate is the only mode i shoot with. in gh5 it was 8 bit only. i hoped they would make it 10 bit in gh7 but they removed 4k50 open gate completely... i will wait a bit to give them a chance to add it with a firmware update and if they dont do i sell my gh7 an never buy a lumix again as i am really pissed as gh7 is a expensive downgrade for my 2200 euros i paid for this.

    • @HaveCameraNowWhat
      @HaveCameraNowWhat  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Might it be naming differences? The GH5 offering open gate mode was pretty new for the day when 4K was kind of the only game in town and people weren't familiar with anything higher than that.
      My GH5 in the Anamorphic(4:3) settings it is called 4K anamorphic that records at 3328x2496 pixels which is the 4:3 aspect ratio (I only seem to have 23.98fps... nothing higher on my GH5).
      The GH7 has everything "4K" limited to a vertical size of 2160 pixels. Anything higher than 2160 pixels is called things like 5.7K or 5.8K. If you need something in the 4:3 aspect ratio at 50p then it will do 4.4K at 4352x3264 pixels which is more resolution than the GH5 can deliver.
