    I've been cutting my own hair for a few years now with mixed results, watching tutorials and trying to improve from time to time. But this is the first video that really clicked it for me and the results has gotten much better since. This technique is really easy and foolproof. Thanks for a brilliant tutorial, you've made a lot of people happier!

      I just use a number 12 guard i got from amazon works fine, number 12 leaves enough hair to comb hair back compared to a number 10 which leaves my hair spikey 😂😂😂

      @@thatguy3213can I ask what mm is your 12 guard you normally use?

    • @thatguy3213
      @thatguy3213 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JR-vr6ri yes, the 12 guard is 38 mm I first bought the number 10 guard to test which is 32 mm but it left my hair spikey after I took a shower since hair was still short, but with the 12 guard it left just enough length where I could comb it back without it sticking up 😂👍

    Dude, I've been cutting my own hair during lockdown with increasingly distasterous results AND whilst following TH-cam tutorials! I've just used your method to blend the top with the sides and some sort of magic happened and it now looks like a half decent haircut 5 mins later.
    Genius dude! THANK YOU SO MUCH. I'll venture out tomorrow without wearing my cap😂

    Been cutting my own hair since COVID lockdown but was never pleased with my blending techniques on the sides and trying to use scissor cuts on top. Tried the with the grain technique and will never go back. The top and sides are as even as they used to be with the pro barbers. Thank you sir!!!!

    I’ve learnt such a lot with this video, more than any other self cut on TH-cam. Firstly to keep the blades in the closed position as they cut better, the video is must watch based solely on this piece of advice. Next your blending technique using the different guards in different directions while respecting the skull shape. Thanks for this.

I learned a lot and felt confident. My first haircut, I'd rate myself an 8.5/10...with practice it'll get better! Thanks mate couldn't have done it without you ✌️

    My hair was a Covid mess. Long and uneven as hell and bushy. Following your instruction I combed it down all over an then just whacked it with the 9mm on top and all around, just working downward. It looked great in 5 minutes after some work with the 6mm as you suggested. Very pleased, very easy and I'm confident to try it again. It looks a lot better than I'd dared to hope. Thank you.

    I've started doing 2 months ago self haircuts. Always wondered how to cut the top, and the sides, and blend the side fade. This is insane technique really! So easy , and simple , and it just works! The only thing I need to practice is behind. Even with mirrors I can't make it good. John I'm making a video on this subject. Generally I'd avoid a neck line and go for a tapered finish. A taper gives a cleaner regrowth. The neckline looks great too but as the neck hair regrows the clean finish is messy qicker.

    Great guide but WATCH THE COWLICKS! I’ll preface this by saying this technique works insanely well for the top. I’ve cut my own hair for 10 plus years and at the age of 35 can confidently give myself a professional cut especially the sides and back with the help of a hand mirror and door 3 panel fold out mirror (these made cutting the sides so much easier.) the only problem I had was the top with scissors and time it took matching and using hair clips to hold to get a good result, and as would happen every now and again I’d do this late at night tired before bed and find myself botching a bit when not taking the time and needing to go shorter than I wanted.
    I’ll try this method again but really wet the cowlicks. I’ve had worse but I wish you mentioned those and to be careful on them. Looks great but my cowlick on my bangs area got a nice buzz

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a bit of a problem for this method. It maybe just go forward until just before the cowlick. And then stop and cut that part with scissors.

      @@theoneminutebarber I wanted to ask a potentially dumb question...so I’m wanting the top of my hair to grow out more. Would it be best to just do the sides and top side blend and skip the top or continue doing as shown so it refrains from being too bulky? If that makes sense

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just leave the top Dustin. When it comes to hair there isn't really any rules as to what is correct. By all means keep the sides neat and let the top get some length. My most recent video was the first time I'd cut the top in three haircuts.

    Love your DIY tutorials. Been cutting my own hair for about 6 years now and stumbled upon your channel. This is a technique I’ve never seen before and will try it soon. Question though: if you’re only removing the bulk on top and continue this method for the next several hair cuts, would you eventually have to cut the length at some point? I typically do a #6 or #8 guard on top going against the grain. Don’t feel comfortable using scissors for the top

    • @theoneminutebarber

    This is great!! My gal likes the hair longer so I can I do a 2 on side and 4 on top or should I do a 3 on side and 4 or 5 on top? Would that be too long for the side? (Mushroom look?) thank you! I thought you were nuts with how simple but you’re a pro and idk nada

      the with the grain method pretty much only works with a number 3 guard. You'd probably find anything longer won't take anything off

    Bought the Wahl colour clippers, no lever on this, didn't even know there was such a thing, should have watched your videos first. I just used scissors up top, still worked out fairly well. Good video again, subscribed.

    Hi Michael, first off THANKS for all your videos, they're absolutely brilliant & have hugely improved my self cutting technique. One question on this cutting with direction of the hair & that is, what would you say the length of hair would be when using a 3 & 2 guard i.e. would that be the equivalent of an 6 & 4 if you were just cutting back the way?
    Also, I have pretty short hair (start from a no guard/closed blade at the sides then build up to the fade) so in fact could I get away with using a 2 & 1 or would I be, as you say 'in for a shock' haha! Cheers anyway, as I say, your work presentation style & the way you explain & demonstrate everything is miles better than any other guys I've watched. Top man!

      Hi neil. If you go against the grain with a 6 it will make the hair shorter than if you go with the grain with a 3.
      This is because a 3 with the grain takes the density of the hair down a it stacks up on itself and not the length.
      Against the grain raises the hair up into the blade and cuts at that length. Does that make sense?

    Leaving a note for myself later. 10mm guard from top to front, 6mm guard from side straight down.

    Superb! I've been cutting my own hair for about a decade, but this video has been a revelation! From a fellow Scot too!

    I feel so stupid to have needed a video like this but it was so helpful! I didn't know that a simple push with the right angle would change everything 😂 Glad that I didn't break it! Thank you!

      @@theoneminutebarber 😂 something's wrong with me today. I thought I was commenting on another video which showed how to change the trimmer head of a certain Wahl model 😂well, I'm sure your video is also awesome, so I'm leaving my "random" comment here😂

    Can I use my Wahl Dog Clippers?

    • @theoneminutebarber
      @theoneminutebarber  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've heard of people doing it. But have never even touched a set of dog clippers so can only honestly say I don't know. What I would look for myself is I'd find out if the blade was any different to a normal hair blade. That would be the main thing.
