Doron & Elsa
My family has been labor zionist from the start. We have a picture of my grandfather sitting with Ben Gurion. I still believe Israel should be a secular state.
I have one request:
Can you do an overview of Israeli political parties (Likud and others)?
Likud -> Right-wing to far-right
National Religious Party-Religious Zionism (Mafdal) -> Anti-arab party, wants to develop Territories, wants Israel to develop a large religious society
Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power) -> more or less the same
Yesh Atid -> Centrist party, Two-state solution, separation between State and Religion
The Democrats -> Centre-left to radical left, a new coalition between the historical Labour Party and Meretz (a more radical left)
Israel Resilience Party -> Centrist party, opposed to Two-state solution, liberal
They are also a ton of religious parties and some arab parties with a little political weight.
They are not a good source of information..
The first 2 claims they made in this video are false, there are civil marriages.
And saying that there is no separation between religion and state just because there are some policies that come from a religious perspective is completely ridiculous.
as a non israeli jewish person you can always tell which politicians or political people don’t know what it’s like to be jewish outside of israel, because they don’t understand their actions affect jews all around the world, and not only that they’re not aware of the growing unification against the jewish state in western countries and how scary it is, and how they don’t care if you’re religious or not, you’re jewish and so israel needs to be a safe refuge for every jewish person in the world. There needs to be more unification we cannot afford to be divided at this time, at the end of the day we need to be united and strong not break from the inside
more people are for Jews than against. Just like the silent majority is against LGBT rights. That is ny opinion. Nothing to be scared of.
@@desertpriere I hope so
So well put 👏👏👏
@@desertpriere The silent majority is against LGBT rights??? Don't know where you're getting that from but thank goodness that is false (at least in most of the West)
@huhner_suppe I think you're generalizing too much and actually you don't know being a minority means politicians don't need your vote as much as you think they do because you are outnumbered. We are influenced by good and bad trends in society like everyone else.
I pray for Israel every day that there will be peace and the hostages will get home. I know Israel is probably the most hated country in the world, now and in the past. But Israel is Gods country and He shows it cuz your country still exists after uncountable attacks, pogroms and wars.
God bless Israel!
thank you so much. this is by FAR my favorite Hebrew learning channel. as an oleh chadash for two years living in central Israel, i appreciate this a LOT.
You are very welcome
The distinctions in the rest of the world between right & left are not only about differences on how the economy should run. And there are some differences on economy between right & left in Israel as well. Although, not as great as in other countries.
Also, ALL countries have unique differences in the way their political systems work.
@@davidschalit907 it is not true.
@@alk158
Everything I stated is true.
@davidschalit907 I apologize I misread. I do feel Netanyahu has increased polarization in israel. Israel system is a parliamentary system similar to European countries.
@@alk158
This video wasn't about Netanyahu or who is right politically. It was just a simple, foundational understanding of the Israeli polity.
Netanyahu has done good & bad in his numerous times as PM. "Polarization"? Israel has been polarized since before it was a state. Did you ever notice the Altalena lying offshore? Do you remember the hatred for Rabin because of Oslo?
Remember how Sharon was despised by the Left, until he went 'left' by disengaging from Gaza?
Do you remember the Leftists in Ashkelon clapping & laughing at the people dressed in orange as they walked past them after leaving behind their homes in Gaza?
Yes, Netanyahu brought out the reality of a polarized society by pushing the judicial reforms.
But, be honest, look at all the examples I gave you before I got to the last one. Who turned out to be right about all of them, with the possible exception of the hatred of Rabin???
@@davidschalit907 Not sure why you are talking down to me as I know all that but actually Ben Gurion for his issues of some autocratic tendencies resigned when he had a scandal, same for Rabin, and same for Begin when he felt he could not lead. That Netanyahu has gone thru an election every year because he can't get keep a coalition together is not good for the country. Needs the support of extreme right wing parties that are just provocateurs. So I do think it is worse at the moment and many would agree especially having the PM being so divisive and even making l loyal minorities unwanted.
Very interesting. Thank you for helping us understand better and educating us.

I’m Israeli so I’m fluent in Hebrew but I still clicked on this video 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Thanks for this video. I like listening to Einat Wilf; she comes across as extremely rational when discussing the conflict. I know she comes from the left but can't comment on her Israeli domestic political positions. Haviv Rettig Gur is also a great resource.

Great topic. What you’re saying about other countries about left and right is true. But right wing parties are usually religious also in other countries.
Wow...this guy has lost weight !!!
In general=

There is public transportation in Israel in Shabbat, some cities has it some not
The annexation of Gaza , the whole Judea & Samaria as well as Southern Lebanon (which is de facto an Iranian military base) is likely the only way for Israel to not only come back to normality but also insure that another october 7th - or worse - never happens again.
That just sounds like imperialism with extra steps.
@@chikilic
No it just sounds like the guy doesn't know much about Israel economy, society, and the state's capabilities, as follows from the first two parameters.
Even though he/she has a grain of truth.
Call it whatever you want bottom line its the only solution @@chikilic
@@yhh850Agreed! Pure common sense 👍🏽
my bro are you serious? You do realize that if Israel were to annex West Bank, Southern Lebanon and Gaza, the jewish population would actually be a minority compared to the arab one, right? Not to even mention that the whole world would be against it, since most countries (including the US) support a two states solution
Thank you for broaching a very contentious topic and keeping the tone of it informative and neutral. Now as something of a nonsequitor that I picked up in the comments of a different channel, "If your history makes you proud, it's not history. It's propaganda."
The opposite is equally true. If your history makes you shameful, it's not history. It's propaganda.
Thanks for you your insight:)

Interesting topic, why not make a podcast with topics from Israel, such as life in Israel, how expensive it is, culture, science, technology, agriculture, modern life in Israel, religion, education, jobs, sports, weather, free time, space, zoo, wildlife of animals and birds in parks, places to visit in Israel, daily trivial conversations, daily food, economy, etc.
Hi Jessica, thanks for your suggestion!
In fact we have a podcast(same name as the channel) you can try it out😊
its VERY expensive.

Is it true that in Israel Arabic used to be an official language but Bibi govt ahm.. canceled it?? I myself thought Arabic was never official there since 48.. maybe remembered wrong from a quiz i made on iconnect ith.. but a friend told me it was the case, Arabic was official lang... why would they take that status off if so??
Arabic became a recognized language instead, meaning it's still has an official special status. But it's just secondary to Hebrew.
The idea was that Hebrew should be the only fully official language because Israel is a Jewish state.
Yes it's true. And that's a great example of a difference between the Israeli left and right. The left mostly opposes the law and the right supports it
It is still an official language.
Arms from the same system.
I really loved this piece of news actually, I'm learning Hebrew and will join your club 'be karov' Todah raba

This video is a mitzvah in the service of hasbara. Thank you.
One thing that always puzzles me about Israel's political history is Labor (or "Labour") Zionists' persistent determination that The Jewish State is, somehow, a perfectible, social-democratic--or socialist--experiment. For, over time, I've come to appreciate Jabotinsky, Begin, Sharon, and Kahane in a way that, when I was young, would have been inconceivable. ("Peaceniks," and others who advocate, "land for peace," strike me as delusional.)
Among Netanyahu's qualities that I admire is his grasp of idiomatic American English, which he often employs when he appears before American audiences.
P.S. Almost exactly one year ago, I saw the very good film dramatization ("Golda") of Golda Meir's struggle to lead Israel during The Yom Kippur War. Then the infamous mass murders, rapes, tortures, and hostage-taking occurred. The movie offered good roles to Helen Mirren and to Camille Cottin. I hope that you've both seen it. (As my grandmother used to say, "Heavy is the head that wears the crown.")
😡
All my heart is for wonderful Israel and the brave Israeli people ❤. Israel will be for ever !!!
What about the people in Israel, though they are few, who want one state with equal rights for all, where everyone can be safe and live a meaningful life? Some of the people who have defended the rights of Palestinians most passionately, for decades, are Israelis. Fantastic language channel, btw.
It's true there are Israelis who have done that, and such people are often far more informed of the good and bad aspects of the Jewish religious tradition (and now secular tradition). Unfortunately, most Israelis have not been that way, and likely will not ever be given the way their country is going.
I have friends from the Kibbutz Beeri who used to think such but no longer hold that after October 7th. It takes two to tango and I don’t blame Israelis if less and less of them defend the Palestinian people because they have their own life too. After all, life is short and there are people who want to rob of their own happiness then they have no choice but to focus on their own security and peace within themselves.
@@EAlyahya
Second that. I'm from the same regional council as Be'eri and Nir'Oz, and the 7th of October was an enormous blow to this dream of peace, since activist who were members of these kibbutzim advocated for Arabs from Gaza to get jobs in Israel in the "Gaza Envelope" region. And those workers were the ones to collect intelligence for Hamas.
So, when is your big 'Chatunah' - or will you sneak off to .. ? ☺

2:21, no separation between religion and state but you are the ONLY country in the Middle East with Pride Parade! 😬
True😊
The disengagement from Azza was initiated by Arik Sharon (who used to be right wing) but was encouraged primarily by the left.
it was a plain political betrayal in my opinion. plain and simple. centre right wing in israel do this very often.. like when bennet went with lapid etc
Im so glad you talked about this topic ,and also I love the new haircut , looks very good on you my friend
Thank you so much!
As a US Jew following American politics, to be fair, in the United States right wing politics does have a strong element of reducing separation between the US government and certain denominations of Christianity. Some elements in the right wing don't even support free trade in reality they are for high tarrifs and protectionism which actually that is one area I think the right wing in Israel does not support. It was the labor party in Israel in it's early years that used Tariffs was part of the centralized economy. Also the issue of not allowing Civil marriage were laws that existed going back to the Ottoman Empire which Israel never changed. SOme laws in Israel are based on the governments before it became the state of Israel other laws trace to the mandate under Britian. Israel politics is certainly influenced by the politics of other countries and certainly Netanyahu spent many years growing up in the USA.
because one thing she forgot to mantion is that in the start in israel the left was socialist with leaning to communism and the right was liberal capitalist.
now everyone are liberals and the most are leaning towards capitalism if not even advocating for it. (there is still some parties that are very socialist, not because of idiology but rather because of comfort, like the ultra orthodox parties. the labor party today is no longer socialist. the one that still idiologically socialist is מרצ. a very small extreme left wing party)
and yes, netanyahu is a liberal. very hatdcore one at that. and an advocate for free market, in general. in the details it is not so simple, but in general he advocate for it. and claims to be the one that build the free market economy and the startup culture in israel.
I don't think his claims are true though, not in their fullest at least. as they said in the video, we are not a capitalist state at all.
but he did insert some elements of it. but when you dive into the details of it, such as the manpower companies he advocated for in his early career.. you can only wonder what he was after in that. if that was to really give a free market, or to just give some elements that will make it more easy for him to govern. elements of free market that actually does not beneficial for the avarage citizen.
like, the example I brought, the manpower companies, which operate under a lot of free market rules, which give very little rights to their workers.
yet he didn't do anything to solve the big monopolies we have here over the food market and other basic markets here. which basically allow those monopol companies(such as straus and coca cola) to rise the prices without no one stopping them. yet they are protected...
Bibistan forever❤
Thanks!
There is no Right or left in Israel - Netanyahu divided Israel to two groups, Democrats that are against Netanyahu, and the supporters of Netanyahu that are against Democracy
Practically there are two states - Western liberal Israel, and Arab state called Bibistan.
Bibistan is larger in numbers where Israel has a much higher human capital
Israel is fighting in two fronts - Against Iran and Against Bibistan
Μaybe the slavery of Jerusalem to Al-Aqsa is due to a different kind of battle?
I think that it is part of Bibistan
Israelis are not salves of AL-Aqsa, they are in love with the Temple Mount
"If you support the Right wing led by Bibi, you're against democracy" - Average hateful left winger
As always, the "democrats " just can't handle different opinions in a democracy .
