As a young kid growing up on Long Island I wore # 31 for my hometown hero Billy Smith, But as I grew older I really was drawn to this young kid in Philly wearing # 31 as well.. I remember watching highlights on CNN Sports tonight(better than ESPN) with Jim Huber, Nick Charles and Fred Hickman. He was so solid and played the position like a seasoned Vet. Had such a great future in front of him !! Live every day like it's your last. Because tomorrow is not guaranteed !!

I will never forget watching this. Still so sad and heartbreaking. I will always remember Pelle Lindbergh not just for his goaltending, but he was a big kid in a man's body. A awesome and decent person who just seemed to want to be your friend. Billy Joel said it best, Only The Good Die Young. The Flyers need to officially retire his #31 even though no one has worn it since. Would you?

I sure remember this day in 1985 very well when I heard the sad news of Pelle thinking of him & his family today.

Don't drink and drive or your life (maybe someone else's) will be cut short. Never should have happened.

I was there that night. I had "season" tickets back then. Pelle Lindberg passed our table in the "Ovations" club that night. He even stopped and shook our hands there. The place was great at all times there.

As a Rangers fan, I knew this guy was the real deal. I don't think #31 has been worn since and they've never had a goalie quite as good or consistent as he was. No disrespect to Hextall, Beezer or other goalies who have come and gone. He could have had it all. Instead, he was just another statistic. Still very sad.

I was an Oilers fan in the 80's and it was pretty harrowing watching this game. Right after Lindbergh died, the Oilers get to go into Philly and play them their next game. I just wanted Oilers to forfeit the game and crawl outta there. I remember that the Oilers coach Sather was thrown out of this game. maybe deliberate? Well, RIP Pelle.

If Carter Hart ever has a son, I hope that the boy is named Eugene Charles Hart II.

Flyers haven't been able to find an elite goalie since. Hextall was good his rookie season but injury prone and inconsistent the rest. Other than that there have been home grown talent that showed flashes or goalies past their prime.

There have been far better goalies since. Lindy gets to be a legend because he parties too hard and likes to drive fast drunk. Thank god he didn’t kill anybody else that night of utter selfish irresponsibility to himself and others.
