    • @feefop9858
      @feefop9858 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously, WTF? You honestly think a fat dude on hot dogs and beer would hang well with today's top major leaguers? NO....way. Would he good? Sure. Would he hit 714 hr's? No way. Players today are leaps and bounds better overall than even 30 years ago. They train better, they have better information, video, etc. They are bigger, stronger, faster, etc. But if he lived the same lifestyle as he did back then, he'd be out of the league by the time he's 30. Take Ruth from the 20's as is, and he's an above average to good player, but that's it.

    • @feefop9858
      @feefop9858 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Alien Observer So you honestly think Babe Ruth today - with his party lifestyle - would be the same player he was in his prime? As I said, he would be good, but not AS good. Pitching is MUCH better today than it was back then. Maybe one or two guys approach 100mph back then. Now every team is loaded with guys who approach 100. And Ruth never faced nasty relievers back then, they didn't do what they do today - six innings from the starter, then three blazing arms in a row for one inning each.
      Give me your argument to the contrary.

    No talent, in any sport, save Wayne Gretzky in hockey, was so utterly disproportionate to the rest. One example of this occurred in 1920, when Ruth hit 54 home runs and the runner-up hit 19. No misprint. The following year clubbed 59, and again the second-place finisher was 35 behind him with 24. Then we can talk about his 94-46 record as a pitcher. There is not now, never was, and never will be another baseball player to rival Babe Ruth.

    The greatest player of all time; nobody but he and Ted Williams ever combined power and average to such a degree. And Babe WAS a top pitcher for the Red Sox before his hitting compelled management to move him to the outfield so he could play every day. He also saved baseball after the Black Sox scandal, while Bonds did his part to nearly destroy baseball with the steroid scandal.

    I remember years ago talking to a friend and fellow baseball fan about how poorly edited these old baseball films are. This is a great example. Not only does Ruth change uniforms between pitches but location as well as he moves from what appears to be Florida to Yankee Stadium. Add in the standard stock fan reaction footage and the illusion is complete. Then again, perhaps the Babe could teleport between pitches.

    In "Babe", Robert W. Creamer's superb biography about Ruth, there's a story about The Babe showing his trophy case to a couple he had invited over. Ruth pointed to one particular trophy which he said he was proudest of. He won the trophy in a farting contest. He told the woman : "Lady, you have no idea of much beer and limburger cheese I had to down to win that". When the couple left the Babe's house apparently the woman turned to her husband and said to him : "What a fascinating man" referring to Ruth.

His problem was, he was jealous of all the attention McGuire-Sosa recieved in 1998, and wanted a piece of that. He gets 7 MVPs. Clemens gets 8 Cy Youngs. It doesn't matter though, because they will be inducted sooner or later. I don't believe they should be, but they will be.

    People go on and on about Mantle and Mays and they were great players no doubt. Mantle said Mays took care of himself and that made all the difference, well, what if the Babe had taken care of himself ? What if he had the advantage of nutrition and advanced studies? There’s no telling what he could have done.

      He wasn’t that overweight he was only 215 to 225 pounds thats not that big.. he wasn’t fat but maybe if he didn’t drink and smoke so much he would have played more

      Probably not considering the fact that the right field foul pole in the old Yankee Stadium when the Babe played there was 295 ft and 350 ft to right center field while its 314 ft to the right field foul pole and 385 ft to right center field in the new Yankee Stadium.

    Watch that second pitch and its speed. Many say back then they did not throw the baseball with the speed of modern baseball. They did have a lot of knuckle ball pitchers and spitball pitchers who threw the ball slower.

    Babe Ruth could never hit in modern times. Pitchers in those days were throwing 50 MPH fastballs and had no other pitches than a softball underhand lob. And the fences were only 175 feet. Everybody chewed tobacco instead of modern Trident gum so they had bad breath and teeth. And they drank old fashioned water instead of modern Gatorade. Nutrition was terrible they ate nothing but meat and potatoes and vegetables instead of modern Hoffman's peanut butter nutrition bars and protein shakes made from isolated milk casein powder. It was a different game back then, Ruth would be on the bench today.

    Dude, you clearly didn't understand what I was saying. I was agreeing with you. Babe Ruth clearly gets made fun of for his gut in his later years. My point was that it doesn't matter what he looked like. He was the greatest of all time.

      @@brnape707 I doubt it. Players hitting 30 homers today using the super bouncy astro ball they play with today wouldn't be hitting hardly any in his day. The dead ball Ruth played with hardly even bounced when it hit the ground.

      modern day helmets(with ear flap and sometimes chin guard) didn't become mandatory until @ 1970 mainly due to the Tony Conigliaro beaning.

      Bobo Clown no, they were dumber then. If you have an option between getting hit in the head with a 90mph fastball or having it hit the helmet, it’s not a matter of being “tough”, it’s being smart.
