    Please note Gene Hart's brilliant classic call at the end of the Cup-clinching Game 6: first, "the Flyers are going to win the Stanley Cup (future tense); then, twice, "the Flyers win the Stanley Cup" (present tense, declarative); then lastly, "the Flyers have won the Stanley Cup" (past perfect).
    That had to be spontaneous. Gene Hart might have imagined all the ways he might call the very end, he couldn't be sure it would be a tense, 1-0 game and the clock going to zero (actually 0:04) as the puck stopped behind the net, and winning the Cup went from the Flyers future to the very moment of winning, to be in the immediate past, just past that very moment.
    Gene Hart was the best.

    by the way the main reason i'm watching this video is because of Don Earle your Flyers play by play man who is my favorite announcer ever. He broadcast Bruins telecasts on local Boston T.V. from 1967- 1971, a Lynn, MA native. R.I.P.

    had different responsibilities. That's the best I can describe Orr, some believe he was so good you can't and as I said just watch the highlights. There were tactics employed by teams to stop Orr, Bowman shadowed him in 1970 final, and here Flyers had more success containing him by allowing him to handle the puck deep BUT NOT so much in open ice where Shero thought he was most dangerous. Now they could scramble back cover others and limit his options. Flyers were an expansion team in 1974 ..

    I get u Don...I mean ur not gonna tell any old school Philly hoop fans the Wilt wasnt the best of all time. Although I was too young to ever see him (42), Bobby Orr is a legend for sure. He did however have his contemporaries (Howe, Mikita, Hull) and actually the Bruins losing to the Flyers took a lot of shine from him because the Flyers were still looked on as an "expansion" team. I have NIGHTMARES still from Gretsky tourturing the Flyers in 2 Finals in the 80's...Gretsky is the MJ of hockey

  • @DonQwantsyou
    @DonQwantsyou 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jim Rice hall of famer played ENTIRE career in Boston and was not subject to batteries and other foreign objects thrown at him like Allen in Philly he had to wear a batting helmet in outfield you Philly neanderthals. Celts also won 5 championships in 70's and 80's with black stars Jo Jo White, Silas Charlie Scott, Archibald TINY, Cornbread Maxwell, THE STEAL HENDERSON, a legend, DJ! just to name a few, signed super black players ALLEN AND KG and OUR OWN LEGEND PIERCE AND RONDO! YOU NUMBNUT!

    Your revelution began in Boston so why Kate backing the |Flyers not the Bruins?

  • @DonQwantsyou
    @DonQwantsyou 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wilt i agree was the best ever, 2 100 point games plus one at 73, Celts knew this but were able to neutralize others. Howe said he never saw a player dominate at both ends like Orr. Hull was a great player and great ambassador for hockey, got his autograph at 1971 All Star game. Funny R. Gilbert said Orr the MJ of hockey. It's difficult to compare Orr and G, they played different positions and in different eras. Orr I think was a better athlete and innovator. He imagined the game from behind..

    Boy I bet you flyer fans were relieved when Orr was whistled for that B.S hold on Clarke in game 6. Just that season Orr beat the Flyers twice in the last minute. I'll compare Boston to NYC any day. WE have 34 pro championships to NYC 's 55 with less than half as many clubs and 1/20th the population. Boston had the greatest hockey player ever ORR, the greatest hitter ever Williams, and the greatest dynasty ever C's in 60's. No city in U.S can match that and we're lookin' for more hahaha!

  • @stevephil10

    Good convo Don...would love to see Phils Red Sox in the Series..can happen but Phils need to wake up and play like their talent level!! Can easily happen though because Wash overrated and Atlanta a mirage...have a good one dude...Bruins could be scary in the playoffs, so hope for that!

    and used his great skating ability to dominate puck control, I mean check out the highlights, and than create chances for others or get into position to score himself with their support. Won scoring title twice as a D man, never done by any other D man and if he had a full career like G his numbers would have been comparable. G was almost as good a skater and as good shooter and passer but he did most of his stuff from red line in, he could not dominate all zones like Orr did but of course..

    what penalty.... just proves series was a travesty of justice. only way they could stop bruins was stuff like that

  • @DonQwantsyou
    @DonQwantsyou 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually Flyers could have won this series four straight. B's didn't get going until game 5 and than took control of the play but Parent was too much. I was a high school kid at the time and knew that Orr was on borrowed time. Orr in my opinion was better than Gretzsky. They had similar playmaking and goalscoring skills but Orr did more, played defense and physically. I had a long discussion with a Rangers fan and he said Orr twice singlehandly beat them twice in the playoffs and was the best.

  • @DonQwantsyou

    but gave Canadiens hell previous year in semi finals, by 1974 they had arrived and the league knew it. Ok, I'm done, good luck to the Phillies, see you in the Series.

    No Derek Sanderson ,gerry cheevers,ed westfall orrs knees were shot by 74 and esposito who had always been a great face off man (watch his face off ability against the russians).couldn't win a face off to save his fucking life in that series.i was always suspicious of this and I think Harry side was to as he traded his 70goal a yr player I think within a yr of this playoff this was not the powerhouse bruin team that had won 2 cups it was 3/4 bruins with some over achieving minor leaguers

U can admit it. Luv u back buddy! (lol) As far as Boston, yes Ive been and makes me proud to live in Philly even more! U have Boston minorities living in segregated, locked away communities like Roxbury. No black player has EVER beat the drum for the greatness of Boston, they have MANY times for Philly

  • @DonQwantsyou
    @DonQwantsyou 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Other teams in 60's in NBA had mostly black players first is bullshit and what did those other teams win? Philly with WILT THE STILT and than sent him to L.A. NUMBNUTS! There is a book written about how REd treated black players and low balled them in 60's but at least they won which led to bigger and better things for them when they retired, example hired K.C. Jones hired as coach of C's in 80's. Dr. J ONLY one title with Sixers 3 times CHOKED in finals vs Portland, 2 times vs LAL and in '81.

    I am not from Philly. I live in New Jersey. You just showed your arrogance just as predicted. Yes, Philadelphia doesn't win much...but to clarify your "ever" comment, that city has won 16 total championships for the 4 sports. Boston is going through a nice stretch right now..7 since 2000 so congrats! However, I am sure your superior brain from the New England area will repond with something so intelligent that everyone who reads the thread is anticipating a genius response!

    LOL...U sooooo wanna be more than u are in Boston, dont u?? U didnt answer my question..and for u to try to compare to NY is just ridiculous. Boston is a small little town...even The New Yorker Magazine said Philly is so cool and so many New Yorkers visit that they call it the 6th borough. Stay in your lane, Don...but I like u dude, keep it coming...the dude jeff rides a short bus LOL

    B's are more or less the same as they were 2 years ago but with no T. Thomas. They have been slumping badly lately and need Lucic and Horton to show up more, Jagr looks out of place and slow at 41. They will need big situation saves from Rask to have a chance and I don't know if he's up to it. What the hell happened to Flyers , no playoffs?

  • @DonQwantsyou
    @DonQwantsyou 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    no you're not going to go into players of color because you don't have a leg to stand on. The B's signed the first black player in history of NHL. The Red Sox had at least half of their starters in impossible dream '67 team black, the Celtics had half their team, winners of 8 championships in a row, all time record for any pro team, black in 1960's. More than half of Sox '04 and '07 teams WS winners Black or Hispanic, including superstars Ortiz, Ramirez, Martinez, garciaparra, ect YOU NUMBNUT!

    Update, dude...Phils won in '08..and the 1980 team had the MVP and Cy Young award winners..shows how lame u are in so many ways. Ha! Wow, do u still use a Betamax too? Youre up here hating on a team from the 70's?? Obviously legendary, huh? We would never care about Boston enough to hate.Theres a looong list of players that ran screaming out of Boston, and from teams that won! Oh yeah...another update genius, Dick Allen came back to the Phils in the 70's and still lives in the area.SMH #getalife

  • @DonQwantsyou
    @DonQwantsyou 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Philly championships legendary, hahahahahahaha, LOL. Flyers a bunch of goons in'74-'75 hated by commisioner Campbell, set hockey in NHL back 10 years until finally given a lesson by superior Canadiens in 1976. Phillies one championship in 1980 due to Del Unser a utility player. Eagles punked by Oakland in 1981. How you people treat black players Richie Allen, black superstar run out of town, NUMBNUT!

    again more B.S. Jim Rice LOVES Red Sox and in fact is in studio host for all televised Sox games on cable as is Cedric Maxwell , ex PLayoff MVP, on radio for Celts broacasts, he can't stop saying how great Celts fans and Boston is. Boston has in many ways become like NYC with many minorities living in areas where whites lived and lovin' it. You are IGNORANT about Boston and our players. By the way I did like Bobby Clarke he would have been loved here even though he was dirty. Also consider...

    LOLOL...ooooooook Don...Um...Celtics greatest dynasty?? No. Again, only 10 teams in the whole league and 2 of them west of the Miss. in the 60s. Its clearly the Yankees...even I can admit that from a fellow NY rival city, but u stay delusional. Orr better than Gretsky? Huh? Wont even dignify that one. Keep it real, Don. Wont be getting anything this year from your teams. At least playing the the AFC Least locks NE in the playoffs. LOL Meanwhile we gotta pray the Phils and Chip Kelly will save us

Theres hardly any diversity in the city...and u talk about the dude the Bruins signed?? Yeah, the dude was tortured by the Boston fans...check the story, yo.
