That's at least the second comment about the Black Magic Camera App and I also love the idea to do a breakdown on the shooting process. I'd love to hear if by that you mean the creative or technical process, or both!
Beautiful work here! But I think it’s important to recognize the post processing/color grading that is adding so much to these iPhone files. I love just digging the natural beauty of the Oregon coast, but without time spent in post - this would not look like it does. Huge props for your dedication and time spent on this project! BTW - Let’s hear it for Golden hour and Blue hour!
That's a great point, there is more work on the back end but you might be surprised how little is needed provided you work in a color managed workflow which is pretty easy to setup in DaVinci Resolve!
I hope you all enjoy this new initial review on the iPhone 15 Pro Max on the Oregon Coast. All iPhone images and video are notated with settings used in the lower left. I had such a fun time on this weekend trip testing ProRes LOG and RAW photos. This device is crazy...! Make sure to comment if you want to see any specific iPhone 15 videos in the future and thanks again!
This is just breathtaking , just breathtaking. This is a phone…. Something you make calls on and play games and throw and sit on etc.. yet when you use it as a camera it just transforms. Sigh Will you ever make a short film? If even 2 minutes 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 Either way, I subbed and I’m looking forward to see more of the iPhone 15 content if you’d so bless us
The footage and photos shot in this video are incredible!!! Would love to see a breakdown of how you shoot and edit your iphone photography and videography.
So glad you enjoyed the video man! A breakdown video would be great, I'll see if I can get some more footage maybe add some urban scenes or night scenes and then make a more technical grading video
I was considering a zve1 but I may just upgrade my iPhone 14 to 15 pro for the log. Where do I start to get the images you had for the Pacific Northwest ? Dehancer? What about ND ? Also curious how skin tones are.
I know you’ve gone through a breakdown with DaVinci and Dehancer. But I literally would love to see much more of your grading process. I don’t need a flashy TH-cam video, I would literally just love a screen recording session. Please get in touch - Jerry
Hi Jerry and thanks for the kind comment, is there anything specific within color grading that you’d like to learn about specifically? So much of a successful grade is in the source material or footage. In this instance, the raw beauty of the Oregon coast is doing 85% of the work for the success of the grade (in my opinion). But there are certainly ideas or philosophies within color grading that can still be enormously helpful. I’d love to know if you have any specific challenges you’re facing and maybe I can address them in a future video
Heyyy yes first comment glad you’re here! And it’s so so true. What an incredible piece of technology. I really think this iPhone will change things forever and allow so many users to shoot cinematic content 💪🏼
Compact cameras and most of APS-C (not zoom lenses) are almost dead. The most capable compact camera Ricoh GR III has been released in 2019 but smartphone manufacturer don't stop to improve. Especially for street photography a 24mm smartphone does a good job - also in low light with recent models.
I totally agree, the low end consumer camera is less appealing nowadays with how good smartphone photography has become. It would be a cool video to compare the iPhone to something like the GR III

Thanks for an awesome comment. I'll definitely think about a video breaking down some color correction for the iPhone. The good news is that Apple Log appears to be pretty dang easy to grade, at least in my experience so far. As for your question about what is the best ISO, I did a little researching and the answer doesn't appear to be extremely documented or clear but I found this video by Gerald Undone: th-cam.com/video/RNd74wyVtKw/w-d-xo.html It seems like Apple LOG does well at low iso if your main goal is to hide image noise, but if you're okay with image noise, Gerald is saying that dynamic range looks to improve (with accompanying noise increases) at around 1100 ISO. I'm sure as more people test this device we'll get more solidified data and conclusions. For your questions about input and output color space, it's common for me to use DaVinci Wide Gamut or something like Arri LogC 4 for the working color space, and I usually use Rec709 2.4 or Rec709-A for output for TH-cam videos since I edit on a Mac. But I appreciate your questions and I think testing out some different color spaces or transformations with the iPhone could be useful!

Thanks so much for watching and glad you enjoyed it! I'd love to make more iPhone content, a short film would be amazing!
Oh wow! Amazing atmosphere! 😮
The Oregon coast is truly fantastic isn’t it :) thanks so much for stopping by!
Thanks for share

Insane video!!! Love the content brother
Dude so amped you liked the video, thanks for the comment and watching!
Really beautiful video. Incredible!
But please make your voice louder in the next clip. This is way too low in this clip
Thank you! And yes I’ve received a few similar comments I’ll make sure to adjust the voice track in future vids!

This is a beautiful video. Great work.
So glad you liked this one and appreciate the kind words!
Nice images - but why was the voice track not higher? The music was way too loud...
Good feedback, still learning here I'll make sure to fix in the future!

Would love to see a post workflow of you coloring the log footage in the dehancer app. Nice work!
That would be a great video or at least section to a video about iPhone color grading! I'll definitely keep it in mind and aim to work on it!
And color grading please !
Can you compare with the 14 pro/ 14max?
I wish I still had my 14 Pro, that would be a great comparison!
First!! And iPhone has changed the game! You don’t need to break the bank to buy an expensive camera all you need now days is iPhone lol

@@torreymerritt yes indeed! Great video by the way!!👍🏿
Thank you truly appreciate it!
i wonder if apple could push a software update for the older iphone like 13pro and 14pro to be able to shoot log 🤔 i think its possible
That would be amazing, I'm not so sure Apple would do something like that haha but I'd certainly vote for it!!

So niceeeeeeeeee
Thank you! :)
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for watching!
Pls turn up the sound next time. It's way to low.
Will do!
Unfortunately not good enough for gaming
Gaming isn't my specialty whatsoever especially on phones but that's a bummer, maybe the next iPhone will do better!
