I agree with you on the style blower you are talking about at 4:52. I got one when I got a lawn mower and weed eater from a buddy of mine back in 2010. It was the yellow Poulan Pro one. I loved that thing. Unfortunately it was used but it lasted me from 2010 to early 2017. After it went out, I got the Echo PB 2520 which I still have today. All in all I had a great experience with that Poulan Pro leaf blower especially since it was used.
You are exactly right!!!!!!!!! I have a blower exactly like yours. I think I ve had it over six yrs. wouldn’t run right for any thing.cleaned carb, adjusted mix screws nothing worked.Went on EBay an found carb for $10 free shipping installed it ,fine tuned it,runs like new!!!!!!!!!!
40 dollars for a aftermarket carb? I found a free Ryobi CS26 on the side of the road with rotted fuel lines. I bought a fuel line kit for 8 dollars (included fuel lines, a filter that was already attached and a primer bulb. Was a pain to install with the included hook, and I just took the fuel filter off and shoved it inside the tank.) It primed good sometimes and started sometimes easy and sometimes hard, but ran bad. It did not idle, and only ran on half choke or else it bogged and died. So I ordered a Hipa carburetor for 15 dollars. It also had a bunch of other things. It had a semi automatic choke. It came with 2 really long fuel lines, 2 fuel filters, 2 primer bulbs, 2 gaskets, a carb, a carb adjusting tool, and a spark plug. Installed the carb and the thing ran really good, no issues. So I also think just installing a carb is much easier.
I agree about just getting a new carburetor. I had a couple of 2-cycle trimmer/blower carbs that I cleaned & bought rebuild kits for, adjusted the needle using correct gauge (for Walbro or Zama), and I still couldn't get them to run correctly. Then I went on Amazon a found a similar carb for around $25 to $30, installed it and adjusted and it ran like a top. Sometimes these get so gunked up, cleaning & rebuilding doesn't help. And many times these carbs are interchangeable, between Zama & Walbro, just have to make sure the linkage & fuel connections are in the right spots. Thank for the video, and the tip regarding using a Dremel to cut slots in the adjusting screws.
Thank you so much...you are fantastic! I have 2 weed eaters exactly like yours (I love them too). I was wondering why my machine wouldn't start. I thought is was the spark plug...it wasn't. I found the fuel filter detached and the hose disintegrated. I was so delighted to find your video that showed me what was wrong and what would be needed. I will be replacing these parts. Thanks again!
8:50 i was wondering where that duck bill thing went. I found mine loose in the gas tank and thought it had something to do with the filter or return hose.
i love those amazon chinesium carburetors. I'm a dealer for Oregon and rotary parts in my shop, and I can't get these carburetors as cheap thru my supplier at my cost. I got a replacement zama for a stihl fs45 for $12. put it on, starts 2nd pull, doesn't need adjustment other than idle. very pleased with them. customers love the savings also
Thanks! Also important is the gaskets. If it leaks somewhere in the mashine intake it going to get more air than needed. Even inside the cylinder head the gaskets has to be sealed.
Very helpful. I have the same weed eater blower that someone tossed. I took the whole thing apart tried cleaning the carb it runs but it seems like it's starving for gas. I need to keep choking it at Full Throttle to keep it going I'm going to try your Dremel trick and cut little slots in the high low screws and see if I can get it to run if i adjust those.
Thank you for such an informative video. I have a Craftsman that's identical with original carb, etc. Could you tell me what could possibly cause my blower to continue running after moving the throttle lever to the STOP position ( choke lever is in uppermost position ( OFF )? The carb has never been rebuilt, cleaned, or adjusted & the fuel filter and fuel lines have been replaced. Thank you for any advice that you can offer...it is greatly appreciated!
Seems there is no spark even after changing the plug. Since my plug is wet after several tries leads me to believe something is wrong with the ignition. It worked ok first thing in the spring. Any thoughts it’s a 1998 WPWES 0244BL EM .
Well I sent and got the tubing and filter and then had to order the carb and put in a new plug and it works. Wish I had done a little more looking before I started as I had to redo it a couple of times. Also the carb is not a good fit for my blower but after modifying the air filter cover some it does work. Now I guess I can throw the old carb away or does someone buy them for rebuilding?
I have a old fl1500 ,will that carb work on that? the original wt-557 has a single yellow throttle screw no lever . the choke has a lever .I can't seem to find that exact carb online , I've looked for hours. Any input would be great thanks.
just wondering about weed eater grass trimmers have you found that majority takes what diapram part number compaired to others? just trying to stock up just wondering whcih ones do you mostly run into ZAMA? if so what part number?
Walbro and zama equally...I never stocked any kits as I tried to avoid working on them as They are pretty much disposable anymore....If doing this for a business I would definitely set a "inspection/diagnostic fee" that has to paid up front and is non-refundable if the customer decides it's too much.. If they agree to the repair than that "fee" is applied towards the total bill... Shops charge anywhere between $17.00-$32.00 for the diagnostic fee..
Hey Foxxboss! Awesome video on replacing carb. on the weedeater leaf blowers! Unfortunately my model is identical to the one in your video that is the more complex version. My question is in your video you mentioned that your unit blows at 205 mph. Mine says 185 mph. Would my blower still take the same carb. that's connected to your Amazon link? Thanks for your time! Jeff in Vermont
On the green Weed Eater leaf blower with the black locking door underneath that opens to put on the suction tube to vacuum leaves, do you know the model number , as I too have one like it but it's so old the identification info has worn off? Please advise and thank you in advance
I have two questions for you that I hope you can help me with. I bought a used generator at a garage sale (good cond. & reasonable) it still has the old gas sitting in it (the man hadn't used it in years). Should I run the gas through (hoping its not varnished) or siphon it out and use fresh gas with some sort of additive added to it? Also, when storing equipment for the season should the all gas be ran out or is it okay to leave it in using sta-bil in it? Thanks and have a good day.
drain it all out..including carb bowl(remove) Then put half a quart of fresh fuel in and slosh around tank, then drain that out..Then you can fill it and run it.. Everyone has their own ideas about fuel and storage.. I just run mine till its out then ass about a quart of gasoline correctly mixed with seafoam additive then run the generator for about 5 minutes then shut it off normally with the treated gas in the fuel bowl over the winter..then in summer i add a gallon of fresh fuel and run it for about 15 minutes and its good to go..
The return line doesn't have to be long at all once it passes thru the tank wall,, The fuel intake line just needs to be long enough so that the fuel pickup filter stays in the gas even when it is running low on gas.
Can you please give me the L & H settings initial setting from closed. I tried 1 1/2 turns after barely setting. I picked up a driveway giveaway basket case and think it will start and run, its pretty clean. But the set screws were out 3 and 4 turns. Any help would be great.
Sorry, there really is no such thing. That one and a half turns is something that used to be used on jet settings for carburetors or idle settings on Automotive carburetors. The two strokes are all over the place. Just don't bottom them out hard because they will damage the needle or the seat. The low high settings for your 2 stroke in my garage using my gas would most likely be different then if we were adjusting it in your garage using your gas. You just have to play around with it. And be prepared to pull the cord a ton of times.
I didn't need pick you up with my pegboard your setup looks just like mine Plumbing tape disc grinder flap disc except for I got a grinder disc hang in my screwdrivers I thought I'd go crazy trying to rearrange shit LOL I like you bro it one question is where you located? And I'm have the same problem Polo on fuel filter hoses so I replace them is it true that go down in there in the tank? Reply back soon thank you
A good ear.... It's the first thing people try to adjust and usually the last time the unit runs until they get a mechanic that has experience re-adjust it... Don't take offense it happens all the time...
+Foxboss9. Hello need some advice here. I have a stihl fs90r and it started running poorly the other day, hard to start to. Just to see I took a compression test and discovered that it only has 50 pounds of compression- yikes!! Checked the valve adjustment since these stihl 4 mix 2 stroke engines have valves and they are good. Was just wondering what else could be causing poor compression? Don't really wanna take it to a shop since they charge 75$ an hour.
Would you recommend spending the ~$40 + time spent on a cheap $75 blower? Mine is only a year and a half, was running a few weeks prior with non-ethanol fuel, and just quit starting. If it sits, the closed choke position will give me the initial sputter, then nothing else past that. The primer bulb primes just fine. Maybe a spark plug issue? thoughts? Thanks
If it will run on short burst of carb cleaner then its a fuel delivery problem,, if not then it could be a coil do spark plug change first as it's the easiest/cheapest
put a new carb on my blower just like yours I have same ones...the 150 and the 205 mph...they started right up and ran like shit so I shut them off grabbed my adjustment tool and the Damn things wouldn't start back up...both of them...wtf...I feel like grabbing my .45 and unloading a clip or 2 at these Damn things!
What a great idea for cutting slots into the carb adjusting screws. My local deal will no sell those special tools, claiming the government does not allow them to be sold. I tried all kinds of work arounds, but nothing was as slick as what you did
My primer button is cracked , will this require a replacement carburetor? Also my starter rope needs to be replaced, I almost completely have the thing completely apart. Will I need to remove the carb also to get to the rope?
+Foxboss9 So for the pull rope I have the housing on the carb side off but the housing on the pull rope side does it also need to be removed? It looks like it to get to the rope will I need to completely remove the housing on this side as well? My first try at this so its kind of tricky. Thanks again.
What a great video! Detailed and informative. Thanks for sharing. I cleaned my carb and it does start but won't stay on after 10-15 seconds. Any advice Foxboss9?
Hector Z Rodriguez Glad you liked the video.... make sure the fuel lines are not cracked, and the in tank fuel filter is clean... Make sure the "duck I'll" valve on the gas cap still let's air into the tank... If all this things are OK then you may need to pick up a new carb
Dayton Cramer sorry to say but, almost all the fuel that you get at the gas station regardless of octane has ethanol in it. The only fuel that does not have octane in it is pure gas you can download the app and look for it it's for use in Marine engines and in this case you can use it in mowers also.

My fuel lines are all broken off so I don't really know which line my fuel filter goes in. Any help, please?
The vent line goes on the fitting closest to the bulb.

Hello i have question how long the size you left the fuel líne inside the tank booth line thanks for you help
The return line doesn't have to be long at all once it passes thru the tank wall,,
The fuel intake line just needs to be long enough so that the fuel pickup filter stays in the gas even when it is running low on gas.
