    Some other tricks
    1) [Ctrl + Click] automatically selects all units of similar type. This is particularly helpful when you have a lot of different bombers (H-Wing, Y-Wing, K-Wing) that you want to select instead of boxing over your entire army. Also works well with fighters.
    2) [Shift + Click Selected Unit] Drops the unit from your selection, whether clicking on the actual unit or if you click on the unit from its UI portrait. So with your group of bombers you can start targeting individual hardpoints and spread out their damage by right clicking a hardpoint, shift clicking a squad out, right clicking another hardpoint, and continuing until you run out of bombers. With Heavy Frigates and larger class ships this works to prevent hardpoint overkill, as you can tell each ship to target a specific hardpoint. You will need to do a LOT of adjusting with the pause button as their damage output is a lot faster than you'll be able to micromanage
    3) [Ctrl + #Num Selected Units] Creates a control group for your units. Many other RTS games have this feature, and in EaW it's especially helpful to manage your corvettes, fighters, bombers, and capital ships. Pressing the number again without ctrl will select that group again. Combine with 1) so you don't have to Ctrl + Click again and again all the time
    4) [Ctrl + A] Select ALL units. Particularly helpful if you call in all your capital ships and want to lump them into a control group before your fighters spawn. Or if you're scrambling to find your interdictor as the enemy is retreating. Or if a unit is hiding behind a bigger ship and you don't know where it is
    5) [Hold Middle Mouse Button] Pans the screen. It's faster than dragging your mouse across the border. It's probably more well known but as someone whose middle mouse button was broken this is easily a hotkey that can get taken for granted
    6) [S] key is to stop. Great for when ships are moving more than you intended them to. If that doesn't work, do the reorienting maneuver shown in the video with right click, as that tends to work better.
    7) Not an actual tip but you can press Num pad 1,2, or 3 to do a base game taunt

    Is there a hotkey for pause button and zoom in/out (my wheel is broken and pressing that little magnifying glass near minimap is not time effective)?
    I have like 4 thousand hours in this game (2k in mods) and want to share some mechanics/wisdom/"abuse" for cruel admiral or other hardcore challenges (like "from the ground up 1 planet start):
    0) the most important one - ALWAYS do galaxy map managing when PAUSED, don't allow AI to take advantage of that ridiculous millions credits boost and x2 faster build time and play on the slowest galactic game speed as Corey has shown in video (you can always change the speed or press speed up button if need bee).
    1) There are planets with abandoned mining facilities on them, on some planets they are constant (not random) and very close to default landing invasion point. you can CAPTURE this mines for +800 credits then immediately retreat and repeat, the mines +800 credits will be refreshed EACH and every time you attack ground battle. I have found some planets with 2 mines: Ton-falk, Sarapin (old SW: EaW Shola map template) has 2 mines and Yag'Dhul has one AT the pretty much landing invasion location (so easy to take and retread in less than 15 seconds of in-game time) for easy $ farming in early game (the only thing that allowed me to win as Eriadu Authority on large galaxy scale (175+ planets) from the single Kampe planet into deep core era 4+ in less than 20 cycles! This was so hard).
    2) About economy and managing infrastructure. You will have a small window of opportunity when new cycle has begun and you have less infrastructure score than 0 - you'll have 100% cost penalty for EVERYTHING until your infrastructure score will go >=0 gain (and if less than -30 -200% penalties and build time increasing too).
    Default moff/senate main building is taking 40 seconds to build (each cycle is 40 in game seconds) - so you almost can't get them to build on time for new cycle. All economic building (mines, taxes, trade ports) are 60 seconds to build (1.5 cycle) BUT our sweet barracks will be built in only 20 seconds (light factory 30, heavy 40 etc, shipyard tier 1 - 20 sec, tier 2 - 25 sec, tier 3 - 40 sec, tier 4 for dreadnaughts and top tier ships - 60 seconds). So you COULD fit at least one barracks per planet in between cycle and increase your infrastructure score fast.
    3) You want to tax the shit out of your planets like no tomorrow, but each tax agency decrees influence (happiness basically) by -2. You want to have at least 4 out of 10 influence on each planet (if there are no special units like Kedable battleship on Mandalore at 10 influence - you don't need to have happy planets). In order to build TWO tax agencies, you will need to build local infrastructure that cost -250 credits per turn for upkeep, NOT effective. However, you could build 2 tax agencies to double the basic income on each planet that has level 3 and higher (3 is perfect) space station level. You get 5 influence as default for each planet, main building (moff/senator/local HQ) give +1, all ground slots full give another +1, all SPACE slots: tier 3-5 station + shipyard + space defense (I build the cheapest one) and trade station (has 15 global limit to build) or Golan population station will give you +1 influence too. So if you have enough credits you could build all this slots full and have influence of 8 that will grant you opportunity to build 2 tax agencies. On planet with 300-400-500 base credits you will get 900-1200-1500 credits by taxes alone. AND if you'll have ANY company slot available you will get +1influence much faster and could not bother with space slots at all (space are very expensive, ground could be filled with 20 seconds and 750 credits barracks to build).
    4) If you attack ground and have for example 4 tanks in squad, you could LOSE 2 out of 4 tanks and the whole unit will be repaired and like a new for next battle, however if you have for example 3 tanks/planes in unit, and lose 2 - your unit will get destroy after battle, so lose only 1 plane/tank out of 3 or 2 tanks/planes out of 4. Same with infantry - you could easily lose some troops in each of the squads and your unit will be gone after battle - be careful. In space if ANY unit but the SSD (super star destroyer and analogies) will have at least 1% hp at last point and you win/retreat the unit will be repaired for free, so you can tank with tier 4 ships easily, and your SSD can't tank with its HP (their repairs is a pain to ass, and the shield will be gone if you lose 10% hull and more in battle, so be careful, this toys are expensive).
    5) Some factions will have absurdly overpowered units as rewards for special missions. At the start of each 4 cycle/weeks you will have random mission, if complete you will have 2 limits ground Juggernaut-6, Protodeca, Producator/Maelstorm battleships, Providence Dreadnaught, Mandator-II for CSA (ship market mechanics, it's like 0.3% drop chance, I got lucky with 2-3 reloads), OP flying turbolaser monster for New Republic etc, etc, etc. You guessed it, just save your game before the ending of 3/7/11 etc. cycles and REROLL (don't like this word but "save scum") if you want, I try to get at least one OP ground unit and at least 1 good unit reward for tanking in space combat to live a happy life at this galaxy conquest. This is on CRUEL admiral and the enemy pop out fleets like Papa Palp his OP ISD fleets in that disgusting Episode 9 by Disney so I think you want to even the odds a bit.
    6) About hero buffs, the mechanics is a bit weird in it and not quite simple for newcomers. You'll have your admiral/general tier level - this is your bread and butter, the HIGHER buff in each section (hp, damage, shield, speed etc.) will applied to all unit BUT this general/hero, So, you have a glorious Grand-Admiral Trawn with the highest damage buff (tier 1 demi-god with "art lover" +10% damage monster for whopping +30% damage and 20% each other stats boost) and you could increase this stats for 5 percent for "warlord/hutt lord/hero of Endor" traits (in game help has a "this stuff is stacking) - ONLY one "stacking" buff works, so the max amount is 35% damage for Trawn's fleet, BUT not for himself. If you have tier 2 admiral (legitimacy mechanics) Grand-admiral Grunger in Superstar destroyer his amazing tier 2 admiral with some other buffs = +30% damage +25% defense (etc) bonuses will work for all fleet BUT himself, and his SSD is 210 out of 300 of your fleet, so you need another hero that can buff his SSD - at least default Palleon for Tier 2 vanilla admiral. So you can't get like 10 hutts lords/warlord in one battle and has +100% damage etc. Only the HIGHER tier buff is applied. Same works with debuffs, if some hero gives major debuffs just send some hero/admiral that has at least >0 buffs in this section and the debuffs are gone, only benefits. And YES, if for example you have Papa Palpatine as ground hero but his icon says (ground/space) you can bring him in a little shuttle far far away from battle and the Emperor will grant all his tier 2 buffs with 0 population cost. That’s why 0-1 population heroes are so good to buff your fleets like Wedge Antilles (Tier 2 + hero of Endor +5% buffs).
    7) Ground (and space from recent patches) heroes are HARD to kill, they have like 0.12-0.25 (different weapon) weapon damage penalties for them, only lighstabers works with 0.75 penalties. So that jedi/sith is not reliable killable for basic infantry/vehicles, so major heroes like Yoda/Papa Palpatine/etc could be a pain in the ass to beat by hutts/CSA and other factions with weak ground hero/units rosters. Just bombard these legendary heroes with turbolasers (air bomb strikes works too) from orbit - instant death if you lure them in position, I managed to kill Grievous, Dooku, Asajj Ventress with 1 lucky bombardment, they very chasing one of my ground tanks (don't bite them with infantry, the will demolish any squad).
    8) Some ships/fleets could easily overkill one position on enemy ships/stations, you waste like 80-90% of your DPS if you don't control your damage. It's only from experience of different fleets combinations - but I try to snipe each and every hardpoints with focus fire and counting 1-2-3 very fast in my mind than focusing another point, if you get used to it you could easily outdamage AI fleets with your while your main tank ship could take all the punishment. If you already lost major shield on your ships - don't WASTE your time on their ion canons, I manage to kill 4 ISD-I to focus fire only their turbolasers/hangars with my own ISDs and have 0 losses.
    9) If enemy has a pretty big fleet AND that OP tier 4 shipyard that spawns 2 ISD like ships as garrison units - you could attack the first time, HIDE all of your major damage dealing ships and when AI will charge you with all it has (you can lure them with 1 population corvette or whatever is bigger than Starfighter) you can deploy ships as close to enemy shipyard as possible and snipe it down then retreat and repeat the battle (you can do this with bombers or superlaser too). Enemy will not have like 50% of their fleet strength with their tier 3-4 shipyard gone.
    This are the main advices in cruel admiral or hardcore galaxy conquest, may the Force be with you and have a good luck, commanders.
    10) Companies -30% time and - 30 % cost reduction does NOT stacks with labor camps (no 45% time reduction) and other discounts, so don't bother. Kuat is your bread and butter for Republic/Empire (warlords) to pop out fleets and vehicles. You SSD would have not 360 but 270 "seconds" (each cycle is 40 secs) to build.
    P. S. sorry for bad English, not my native language.

      @louiswinterhoff334 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Don't worry, your English is pretty good.
      One thing I'd like to mention about the dreadnought shipyard is that (I'm pretty sure) you can steal the garrisoned ISD's if you have a Boarding Shuttle. So that could conceivably equate to an infinite source of free ISD's. I haven't yet tried it myself but I am going to for sure.

    • @Ddarth_sidious
      @Ddarth_sidious 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@louiswinterhoff334 Yes, you absolutely can, and for easily boarding/stealing action you can focus fire all trubolasers on enemy ships and press "retreat" with your fleet, if you have units in control groups 1-10 you can order them to MOVE again when the retreating after 11 second timer starting - in this way you can advance forward (not turning you "ass/rear" to enemy) and DON'T fire on the ship you want to steal, it's so easy to do when I discovered this "cease fire" type of order/abuse/cheese. You can cancel the retreat order and repeat it again as you like.
      But remember, each boarding actions take 5 navy crew resource and each boarding shuttle has like 5-6 attempts (mb more) per battle limit.
      This 2006 game is such a masterpiece and amazing fans moding community allow to play it in 2024 like a new grand RTS that we were denied by big companies, "fine - fans will make a game of their dreams themselves" (c) in Thanos quote :D

      Great summary of crucial tips, but I'd like to correct parts of point 4:
      - Infantry in TR has a base unit & 3 "expanding" units. The expanding units have a little flag-like icon next to their lifebar & they are expendable, you can lose all 3 & you won't lose the unit as long as at least one soldier of the base unit survives the battle
      (=> I place the base unit in a tanky troop transport like the Juggernauts, put them in a safe spot of the map or let them enter a bunker to secure their safety)
      - while it is true that even heavily damaged ships except SSDs are fully repaired when you win as long as they survive the battle, but if you retreat they will only not be lost as long as at least one engine is still intact (otherwise they will face the same fate as your space stations, they'll be able to fight while the retreat is ongoing, but they'll be destroyed after the battle). & remember - Battlecruisers like the Home One, Praetor II or Sorannan are not SSDs, only the following units count as SSDs: Vengeance SSD, Executor, Mandators, Bellator, Viscount (the prototype counts as battlecruiser though), Assertor, Sovereign & Eclipse class
      To expand point 9:
      also try to isolate Interdictors. They will either stay near the stations, & if they don't, then just get far away enough from the enemy with your corvette to try a retreat since this will make the interdictors stay in position as they have to be stational to use their hyperspace blockade, so you can make the rest of the AI's fleet to rush ahead & leave the Interdictors in vulnerable positions. Btw I also focus on them if the enemy attacks me & I have defense fleets nearby as well as a HyperV-Gun on the attacked planet, so I can attack & retreat various times (in this case it is immensely advantageous to either have a shorter distance towards the planet than the enemy ground units or to destroy the enemy ground units while they still hover above the enemy's planet while the attack fleet is still on its way to your planet)
      & to answer your questions:
      i don't know a hotkey for pausing either, but you can use ESC, adjust your cursor to the pause button & press ESC again, this might decrease the "runtime" a bit at least
      & it doesn't seem like there's a zoom hotkey afaik & sadly the general "strg & +/-"-commands don't work in EAW as well; maybe you can get sort of a workaround if you have the option to reprogram keys (f.e. via Logitech G-Hub), so you can f.e. give additional mouse or keyboard keys the "if i press you, you will act as a 'scroll upwards' button" order. idk if G-Hub doesn't work for your setup, so you might wanna search for setting up makros for your keyboard or mouse in general
      Good luck on fixing your issues & have fun :)

      @@DerDai Thank you for tips, I didn't know about ground infantry with "little flag like icon" tested it - it worked, thanks.
      And about interdictors you are 100% right, you can even try to snipe them with bombers/fast units or deploy the main fleet on them and take them/shipyard while the rest of AI fleet is chasing your fast ships (works wonders in FTGU where almost all AI is white neutrals and don't have usual AI behavior, just rushing you with all they have).

Depending on what planets you have an option to build a Corporate Head quarters on whatever planet given you own one of the Subsidiary offices associated with them. So Like as an example of you own a Planet like Rendali , then you can build on any planet in your empire a Corperate Head Quarters allowing you to build those ships, and if you lose Rendali then you can no longer build the head quarters however if a Planet still has a Rendali Head quarters then you can still build stuff there.

    i never liked those giant maps the republic at war mod popularized. i get that you can put the planets where they should be lore wise, but from a gameplay perspective i never liked it. you can actually see most of your stuff in the vanilla style maps, and i greatly prefer that. i know its been like 6 or 8 years or something, but ive basically only played skirmish since you made the map change. every time i try conquest i cant find anything, have no idea what is where, find out i had some starting planet in the middle of nowhere only because it got attacked... ugh its anti-gameplay fun. never had problems finding a planet back on the old maps lol. i miss them. half tempted to bust out my old cd copy and run like 1.8 of thrawns revenge, loved those old conquest maps. wouldn't have such an issue with the RaW style maps if i could actually zoom out and see all the systems everyone has. but every mod that uses them gets the fun of conquest just sucked right out for me.
    and before anyone says anything, i know this wont change anything. im just venting my frustrations at the eawfoc modding community as a whole. ive spent 18 years in the empire at war modding community, and im a grumpy old man now, so everyone has to know how much i hate that map style almost every mod has adopted these days lol.

    • @CoreyLoses
      @CoreyLoses  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      While I understand why you would want to be able to see everything at once, there are a lot of reasons mods don't have everything on one screen. I'm not sure where the idea that Republic at War is where they originated comes from or that earlier versions of TR didn't have large maps, since we've always used roughly the same scale (and there was never a TR 1.8). But especially as we've had more galactic conquests, planets need to be spaced appropriately. Planets are not changeable per map, where they are in one is always where they are, so they have to be spaced to be used in whatever combinations you're going to have in different maps.
