Let’s be honest, in the vanilla Star Wars Empire At War FOC, almost the entirety of the Zane Consortium’s armed forces are overpowered. You put in a fleet almost made up exclusively of Crusader corvettes with their point-defense and a fleet of either Vengeances or Aggressors and you can steamroll any enemy fleet. Stick the Consortiums heroes on a ground battle with a few of their pulse cannon and canderous tanks and you get the same result.
Made the mistake of playing a multilayer campaign against someone playing as the consortium once who spammed canderous tanks. The only battle I managed to win was with a stack of T4-B's
Canderous Tanks and the Artillery that is also super quick...and in Fleet Battles, mainly the problem is the damn Self Destruct and Poof now I don't have anymore Fighters and get steamrolled.
Those Canderous tanks clearly weren't play tested before they were added to the expansion 2nd strongest unit in the game 1v1 (only beaten by the Veers hero AT-AT, and then only if they're coming from the front), and they drop in groups of 3. The only thing that actually threatens them is Rebel rocket infantry... that the tanks can simply drive over
Honestly, I think that a Consortium Galactic Conquest where you can only build Defilers for corruption, Crusaders, and Vengeances for space battles (plus base buildings) and only Hero Units for invasions is easily doable even on the highest difficulty.
The Consortium corvettes were heavily nerfed, on the disk version, I remember being able to 2v1 a isd with them, though I dont remember, if it still had shields or not.
Made me hate the ship for years before I finally bought myself the sw armada model of it. Its too fast for many bombers or just basic proton torpedo speed, plus its too bulky and slim for many ships to handle
That and friggin B-Wings. They're easy enough to deal with if you got a decent anti-fighter screen, but even then, they spam like 20-25 at a time. Least that's been my luck.
@@MasterCrash123 I remember bwings being slightly easier since your defense station spawns 1-2 tartan cruisers + in FoC you can repair hardpoints on the station mid battle. so you can end up having infinite anti-fighter corvettes. Consortium has point defense unlockable so it works even better destroying most missiles on it's own. plus interdiction cruiser pretty much negates bwings
@@thalmoragent9344I still remember I fought a battle in Ilum with AI Rebels where my lone Star Destroyer with a single Interdictor(With their abilities turned on) managed to defeat waves of MC30s and Assault Frigates, 80 or more in total. It was so ass to fight because the planet capped at lvl 1 space station.
I made it a point to fire hyper-velocity cannons at MC30s every chance I got before they reached my forces in a defensive battle. Thank god the AI never does evasive maneuvers to avoid getting hit by that, on purpose anyway. Maybe the only reason I really keep interdictors in every fleet, is just to have a jamming field that can force those torpedo barrages off target. Works against that Consortium capital ship with the two mega cannons as well, but barely. The sheer power behind those two shots has them only just veer off of target when the jamming field works its magic.
I remember doing a galactic conquest with a friend about ten years ago. We brought our biggest fleets to Mon Cala for an epic final fight. My 50ish star destroyers were absolutely shredded by his army of MC-30s. That was the moment I learnt to fear this ship

The MC40 is not a disabler in AotR, you probably meant the MC60. MC40 has Plasma Missiles that do massive shield damage while the MC60 actually has the MagPulse missiles
Torpedo Spheres, Aggresor and Peltast in Thrawns Revenge are capable of removing shields of SSDs quick. The first with torpedos, the other as artillery with long range turbolaser and ion cannon inn case of the Aggresor or Megamaser as Peltast even capable of killing smaller ships without targetable hardpoints one hit

There was a point in my Imperial campaign where I managed to bottleneck the Consortium to one space lane but what ended happening was that they kept spamming the cannon capital ships so I kept losing several if not ALL my ships bigger than the light frigates. The only way I had to combat the ships before they destroyed my ISDs was that I used a bunch of TIE Defenders that would specifically attack the cannon hardpoints. In the end, they would only shoot the 2 turbolaser hardpoints that couldn't do much against ISDs and what not. But yeah, an absolute pain to deal with.
Deploying MC30c in wolfpacks has got to be my favorite thing to do in vanilla FoC and AotR mod during every space battle as the Rebellion; while deploying Y-Wings and B-Wings runs the risk of you losing your expensive bombers to swarms of TIEs or other screener/picket ships, the MC30c can safely barrage their targets from safe distance then reposition quickly, it's really cheesy but when the AI is spamming capital ships like crazy, they're getting what's coming to them. Fortunately the AI is too stupid to do this with their fleet doomstacks, but when you're up against a player who knows the MC30 Wolfpack tactic, hooo boy be ready for some tears.
@@federationsoldier6833 Usually put 3-4 MC30c in a single control group, position them away from your main battlegroup that will draw all the fire from the enemy fleet, then once your fleet has engaged the enemy's, move your MC30c to flank the enemy fleet and target their shield generators or hull, they need a lot of microing to get their torpedoes on as many targets as possible, you might lose one or two, but it's very well worth it if you can kill several ISD's with them.
Something that always bothered me about EAW was just how slow shields recharge and how much damage bombers do to just about any ship. Functionally, bomber swarm is the best meta in the base game as the rebels, as the AI will simply have no counter and you can just sit back and build up MC90s while spamming fighters and bombers. And its pretty similar in many of the mods. A few bombers can knock out the engines of a powerful vessel like the Malevolence and in original EAW, missiles and torpedoes could penetrate shields. Which meant that you could effectively trap hero units like Vadar in a battle by just taking out the engines and now the large ship is effectively dead in the water. The meta encourages one to simply think like Thrawn all the time, build lots of highly maneuverable bombers, screen them with anti-starfighter corvettes that you keep out of range of capital ship weapons and you just win.
I can totally understand that this might annoy people, but as someone who LOVES the thrawn books and Star Wars itself, it brings me great joy, that these strategies are pretty much just the way they are in the Star Wars universe itself. Yes, it might be boring to some, but I actually like that if you are technically outnumbered and outgunned you can still win by superior tactics and good use of your smaller ships like frigattes, corvettes and fighters. And lets face it, for being released in 2006 the game makes Space battles look fantastic!

hounorary mention: the corellian gunship. flexible, small and comes with anti-fighter firepower. considering it being an alternative to the mc30 frigate because it doesnt have hardpoints.
Out of curiosity why do you have the MC30C listed as an MC30? The MC30Cs are easily my favorite unit introduced in Forces of Corruption with the Vengeance class in second.
K-wings in Remake are an absolute menace and should be on this list, in the hands of the AI they will delete most ships unless focused by anti-starfighter ships, in the hands of a player you can very easily abuse their insane speed to destroy swathes of fighters, delete capital ships, and get away without getting hit
You forgot the most op fighter ever. The Hwk freighter- for the pirates, it will drop mass driver satellites, that have long range, superb accuracy, and high dmg, not to mention the ability to pierce shields. They come in groups of three, and since they're small freighters, you can have tons of them on the battlefield
Should probably be clear that you're talking about *mod ships* right at the top and not base game Empire at War, or otherwise be extremely clear in every entry. Or even have it split in sections (base game, TR, AotR, etc.) Also should probably use the right version of a ship when talking about it. The EaWX Broadside packs assault concussion missiles, not diamond-borons. Those are used by the base game version, and the two have *vastly* different characteristics and some differentiation in use (namely, base game Broadside is fantastic at wiping out fighter swarms thanks to the AoE of the diamond-borons, while EaWX's version isn't as good due to assault concussions not being effective against fighters).
