    I've been watching your vids for the past 2 weeks. I've always been interested in ambient music but never truly knew how to accomplish it without a bunch of crazy gear. I actually own a few of the pedals you have in terms of reverb. But you have truly inspired me to get a Strymon Dig. Just ordered one this afternoon. Should get it some time next week. Can't wait to start experimenting with it all.Thanks!

    I’ve had one of these for about five months and still come back to this video for tips. It’s such a great delay. I just wish it had presets. I often find myself having to take photos of the settings on my phone so I can recall them later.

    • @The_Discussion23
      @The_Discussion23 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s my biggest bone to pick with Strymon pedals.... so much variety but no way to save presets! I have a photo album on my phone just for favorite settings... and, One “Favorite” switch is not enough! For example, I owned an Empress Superdelay for a long time... great pedal but not quite as majestic sounding as the Strymons... but... you get 8 presets! That’s a big deal if you plan on playing these things live on stage.

    Sounds better, the more modulation you add ... cool features ... the basic sound is sterile as heck (as it should be, being a modern digital delay). Why I prefer the classic 80s digital delays, but the mod settings make this very usable for me. Nice review.

    I remember in one of your vids you showed "infinite repeats" (not the freeze function) - you mentioned that at 4:54 in this vid - can you mention the knob settings for infinite repeats?

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know what the other video is that you might be referring to. But, if you crank the repeats knob all the way up, in particular with the 24/96 and ADM delay types, the repeats just keep going and going for minutes. And then if you set the unit to buffered bypass, delay trails are enabled, allowing you to bypass the delay and still hear the repeats. Drone machine!

    Another excellent demo. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I think your playing is outstanding and I enjoy it very much.
    Just curious if your using any reverb?
    I just got the dig and I use it with my MXR m300 reverb. I just started getting into pedals and the dig is a favorite for sure. Strymon in general are great. Their pedals have true bypass and great buffers. Input and output impedance are perfect if you need a good buffer.
    Between the dig the MXR m300 and the MXR m305 tremolo I’m loving using pedals so far. So much to explore.
    Thanks again
    Take care

    Much more amiable than El Capistan to my ear. The time Line can wait a little longer - cuz this is my desire at the moment. 'Be interesting to hear this combined with the Boss Rev 6. Good show-n-tell thanks!

      Richard Bates One of things that I really like about the DIG is that it's simple to set up and there's really no need for presets. As much as I love the Timeline (and I do!), I find the simple controls and limited options of the DIG refreshing. Thanks for commenting!!!

    Great video! Can you have two different settings (one set light, the other for solos with more) or would an expression pedal be the way to go for less to more of the mix on this pedal? Also are you using two deals always on this like at the 8:50 part ? Thanks!

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      cragginshred The DIG itself does not have a way to save a preset, so there are 2 strategies that I think would work: 1) Get a Strymon "Tap Favorite" switch www.strymon.net/products/tapfavorite/ and use it to save one favorite setting.
      2) As you suggest, use an expression pedal. For example, you could set up a basic slap delay on Delay 1 and then set up a longer delay on Delay 2. You could then assign the Delay 2 mix knob to the expression pedal to bring it up for a solo.
      Finally I am indeed using both delays at 8:50. The whole section where I go through the tap sub-division has both delay active.
      Hope this helps!!

  • @cragginshred
    @cragginshred 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I ordered a DIG yesterday. Be here next week. I have an expression pedal and will use that 1st. So to clarify, you said set delay one to slap or more likely or low to medium useable rock rhythm delay. Then as you described if the EP is signed to the Mix of the 2nd delay I could not have a dual delay for solos right?

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      cragginshred Awesome that you have a DIG coming! If you assign the expression pedal to Delay 2, then when you bring up the level with the expression pedal, you should have both delay 1 and 2 audible at the same time.

    Hey Bill....i own a strymon DIG thanks to your reviews but do you think adding a TC electronics flashback would be overkill?

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends on what you are trying to accomplish by stacking the 2 delays. The DIG can be quite complex on it's own, but sometimes adding a longer delay in front of it can be pretty cool.

      The dig pulls 250 mA while the TC triple is at 300. I went for the dig for that reason.

    Hi Bill....How do I set up the strymon so that one delay follows the other so as to give double delay instead of just having the two delays modulate each other?

  • @adamcourtinot5520
    @adamcourtinot5520 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for your vid !
    I have a problem with the tap tempo : when I set it to be very slow, it just doesnt do it. If I tap a 1 or 2s tempo my actual delay will be much faster.
    Do you have the same problem ?

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may be hearing the multiple delays at once. Try turning down Delay 2 all the way so you just hear delay 1. Also check the secondary function of the delay 1 to ensure that it is set to quarter note.

  • @tweedguitar9103
    @tweedguitar9103 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great tutorial thank you. If you are only going into one guitar amp, does the Left Output provide a mono sum of delay 1 and 2 ? In stereo mode ( using the Left and Right output ), which delay comes out of the left channel ? ( 1 or 2 ). Thankyou for your help. cheers

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Left is a sum if you are running mono. The default stereo mode is series which means that both delays are sent to the right and left outputs. The stereo field is controlled by the modulation switch. The second mode is ping-pong, which moves both delays between each side, and the 3rd mode is parallel - delay 1 is sent to the left, delay 2 to the right. Check out the manual for more details: www.strymon.net/manuals/DIG_UserManual_REVA.pdf

    Thank you for a wonderful demo how will this sound using two amps 1wet 1 dry? And bringing in a Tc hall of fame reverb.

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I were using two amps, I would run the DIG in stereo - left channel from the DIG into the left amp and the same for the right amp. If you want to run wet/dry, it will sound good, but you will lose the stereo effect of the DIG which for me is a big part of why I love the pedal. Same with the HOF. Mono reverb does not sound near as nice as stereo IMHO.

  • @charteredvessel
    @charteredvessel 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How are you enjoying the strymon DIG compared to the TC Triple delay? Nice demo by the way!

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      chartered vessel They both excel at different things, so I don't think it's an issue of either/or. For example, while the DIG excels at the rhythmic sub-division delay, it can't do 7 second or reverse delays like the Triple Delay. I am glad to have them both! But the DIG will be the shiny new baby for a while.. :-)

  • @languid100
    @languid100 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great Vid. What happens to the time set by knob 1 when you have tapped in a tempo? e.g if turned fully to the right to give a delay of 1.6 sec and you tap a tempo of 120 bpm, does it default to 1/4 notes (suggested by the manual) or does it stay at 1.6 sec? Hope that makes sense...

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Tony Pearce Yep, it does make sense. The tap tempo simply overrides the knob 1 settings. In other words, it's as if you turned the knob. In either case you will see the Tap Tempo flashing light change to what the delay interval is. And Delay 1 it does indeed stay at a quarter note subdivision unless you change the setting via the secondary functions.

    • @chordsoforion

      It all depends on what you want in a delay. The features between pedals can be so divergent, it's important to understand what your requirements are.

  • @Kmuggle
    @Kmuggle 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why would I choose the Dig over the Timeline? The Timeline can do everything the Dig can do ... right?

    • @chordsoforion
      @chordsoforion  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Kmuggle There are similarities, no doubt, but there are some differences. For example, there are 3 delay models on the DIG vs. the dual delay being just one model on the Timeline. Also, the second delay on the DIG can be set independently of the 1st. On the other hand, the Timeline dual delay can go up to 2.5 seconds vs. the DIG 1.6 seconds. I think that it is somewhat the same as the El Capistan tape effect delay vs. the Timeline dTape delay machine.
      Both are great options though, and I really like having both the DIG and the Timeline for stacked effects.

      Hard choice! If I was allowed only one Strymon delay, the Timeline would provide the most flexibility given its many delay engine choices, so that would probably be the one. But I would sorely miss the DIG. It's got a great sound and is super easy to set up.

      WOW!!!! MUST....HAVE!!!! But the timeline has midi which helps if I want to use the Boss ES-8 and control my amp channels and timeline presets at a touch of a switch. The Dig doesn't have midi does it?

      Nope. The DIG does not have MIDI. Nor does it have the capability to store any presets. I don't feel like that is a big issue though, as it is so easy to adjust.

    Are the two delays in series or in parallel ?

      The 2 delays are in series mode by default, but you can change that to parallel or ping-pong if you wish.

    Is the timeline this is a bigger format?

      +Sin sin sinner The Timeline is indeed the large format effect. The DIG is the smaller format, and it does not have all the delay models like the Timeline does.

    love that creepy intro Bill lol...
    can you tell me if the strymon DIG has a slap back delay and where to find it if it does?...... if not, what would be a good delay pedal that does have that?

    The dig is cool but I sold it for the el capistan as I find digital delays rather sterile sounding.
