Bro I have been waiting for this comparison video between these two pedals dude thanks so much for doing this! I will probably comment again after I finish the video I am only 3 minutes into but I had to say this is gonna be fn awesome 🤟🏻
When my orig Dd3 started playing up( after 25 yrs) i got myself the wampler analouge delay , faux tape echo and a satriani vox unit. Running one or more always great ol vibes. Strymon gear always impressive but Boss just kill everytime. Great tutorial Leon.
This was the video I've been waiting for, many thanks. The DIG V2 is currently on my board. I wanted a reason to buy the SDE-3 just based on looks alone, but the DIG is in another league.
I totally agree having both would be fantastic but I would get the boss first because I want the EVH SDE 3000 too because I want to do a W/D/W mini rig someday and the DIG for extra features they both sound amazing and I definitely want the Strymon BRIG too the video you did awhile back with the BRIG and a few other pedals was so inspiring. I own the Eventide micropitch and the Tricerachorus the MXR Echoplex EVH Phase 90 Friedman BE-OD so slowly but surely I’m working on my dream rig!🤟🏻
I have the DD-3T and the SDae-3000. Both are awesome. They are different. I call the 3000 live wire digital because it's slightly more brighter than the warmth of the DD-3T. The SDE-3000 sounds more like the Roland SRV-2000. It is the first digital delay and only digital delay that I've hit the intro to Welcome to the Jungle spot on with. The DD series are too 12 bit warm for Jungle. Killer delay!!!
Beautiful playout. Been loving the original DIG since day 1. I have the EVH SDE, fantastic for w/d/w and EVH settings, but the DIG isn't going anywhere.
I also have both, and there's something very subtle about the Boss unit that I prefer, and could never duplicate with the Dig. It's to do with the envelope of the delay trail; there's a "chirp" at the attack of each repeat inherent to Boss/Roland delays that just makes the effect sound "bigger." The Dig has cool features, but it's getting kicked off my live board for the SDE-3. I wish I had independent control of the feedback for the B line, but it gets close enough. UAFX Anti + Eventide Micropitch + SDE-3 = Balance. All day long.
The ultimate delay pedal is the TC Nova ND1. Its just a mini TC 2290 without all the extra stuff I don't use. Still holds up after all this time and its the best "bang for your buck" (half the price of these pedals since everyone forgot about it). Its got everything these delays have but also has the dynamic delay, reverse delay, and panned delay modes, three different very subtle modulation modes, a digital number display for the parameters, and the ability to go from tape echo, to analog, to digital delays including settings between for if you want a darker or brighter sound for each type.
Interesting comparison, thank you. I already have a dunlop echoplex ep-103 (sometimes in fx loop, sometime in front) but I I want a digital delay in loop. The Strymon was out of my radar and I was going to buy the TC Electronic 2290P but the smaller and cheaper SDE-3 makes me doubt 🤷♂
Thanks for another detailed review! Out of the future factory and these two delays, which would you say has the best sound quality and flexibility of delay sounds?
The FF and DIG have "hi-fi" modes (no filtering, very clean repeats) that the SDE doesn't really do. If you want character delays though all 3 are great options.
Both those delays are pretty amazing, I'd be pretty happy with either, I've been loving the delays in my new katana, although I don't know if there emulations of famous boss delays?
I keep thinking, and I am told by pundits, that I need to simplify my life. Then you come along and present me with choices like this. When you have so many great choices, Gear Acquisition Syndrome turns into Gear Anxiety Syndrome. That may somehow be a good thing.
I pre ordered an sde3 after your last video 😅 will replace the dd3t on the JS Jvm board.... wonder how close it is the the evh/sde3000 ? The 3000 is awesome. Will have to back to back them when the 3 arrives.
Hey Leon! When you first added that offset in the Boss pedal, it sounded FAT!! I like that! But I'm a guy who feels like the Axe III should be able to do most anything these pedals can, if you know how (which I generally don't. I tend to do light tweaking to factory presets.) Is that offset just delaying the original delay?
When playing a 10-20seconds riff from a song, do you get a copyright strike? I just want to hear someone demo a delay pedal while they play "Rap Snitches Knishes."
Controls? A good comparison to me is the MXR 300 reverb compared to the Boss RV-6. The RV-6 is like power steering, turn a control a couple of hairs and you go from one side of the end zone to the other. The MXR is like straight drive, keep on turning, almost there. Just another notch, you're there. The Boss is tiny sounding, but the tone control can help that. The MXR is more organic and my pick of the two even though I have both. A guitar effect should enhance sound and creativity, not play the music for you. As although Van Halen got a little crazy with flange. When you can play like Van Halen his technology in his his fingers are still far beyond any pedal they make today. You don't here any of his effects unless you listen for them because he outplays all of his effects. That's why people are like my Phase 90 doesn't sound good like Van Halen! Well that's because you're not Van Halen, he was good and a man guitar player! You suck and are still a little boy and in your head compared to your favorite guitar players like mine Slash you always will try to buy never be that good no matter what you buy. Cheers! Keep playing y'all!
Also doing occasional Lego reviews, Todd ;) ? I happen to see a remake of some childhood nostalgia sitting there in the background. Totally cool in its own right.
I've owned and gigged with both. Both got sold. The UAFX DelVerb is where it's at for me and gets huge bonus points for also having great reverb giving me back precious pedalboard real estate.
@@LeonTodd Yeah I will to that for the more ambient stuff but it's a bit over the top for anything else I do. I'm all about a little splash of the plate reverb.
Hey @LeonTodd! Got a nerdy question for ya! Since the SDE-3 is a dual delay strictly in parallel. In theory, wouldn't you be able to run cable from output A into the input B and thus through output B to create a "series mode" with the SDE-3? If this would be possible, I will buy the SDE-3 faster than you can say poopty-pewpty pants! TIA and keep doing all the awesome things!
Had both a helix and strymon dig at the same time and it wasn’t even close. The strymon was just a superb and rich sounding delay. All my opinion and glad you dig your helix.
What's your ultimate delay pedal?
Probably the DD-500 just because of the shear amount of things it can do well. But I also have a huge soft spot for the SDE-3000.
Eventide TimeFactor, great dual delay
The forthcoming Timeline MX. Until then I'll stick with the Dig and a DM-2.
Rose
My go-to gig setup is actually a Carbon Copy and a Dig
Great demo, with plenty of nerdiness as promised 😊 We are super lucky to have these options for a home setup.
Thank you.
Must admit, loving the SDE-3 a whole heap right now…..

Glad I could help!

It's not.
I agree, for one reason with me - sense of air/headroom which the Dig has more.

I bought a DIG v2 & the TC 2290p and I’m in Delay Stereo Heaven 👍
The Dig sounds awesome. Can you do a video of 80s hair metal leads with the Dig.
The source audio nemisis is a great choice also, but the sde price is a win!
Both sound great but someone could squeeze a DM-2w next to SDE-3 for similar size and money as Dig.
Add a RE-2 and it's a killer trifecta, with tactile control and no menu diving.
@@coreyjohnston7266 That'd be really sick
@@coreyjohnston7266 I like how you think

I love the Dig. I’ve owned one for years and it’s my favorite pedal now, maybe.
Beautiful playout. Been loving the original DIG since day 1. I have the EVH SDE, fantastic for w/d/w and EVH settings, but the DIG isn't going anywhere.
The 3 type of dig on the Strymon have me interested because of what I just described.
I also have both, and there's something very subtle about the Boss unit that I prefer, and could never duplicate with the Dig. I had the iB modified Nova delay for a while, fantastic sounding pedal!
@@LeonTodd After a certain serial # they came stock with that mod so I ended up buying that one.
Really dig (no pun intended) both of these. They both sound great.
2290P is awesome but it won't do dual delays.
Thanks for another detailed review! Out of the future factory and these two delays, which would you say has the best sound quality and flexibility of delay sounds?

@@LeonTodd Thanks Todd. The channel is great btw. I missed the Malmsteen concert in Melbourne, but hopefully you head back this way soon.
Definitely prefer the Boss without any doubt. Offset and modulation sound glorious!
It's also instant Ed Wynn, Ozric Tentacles! Awesome
Can we get a Boss DD-9 with easy subdivision selection, Carryover and MIDI tempo connection?
Can they both take a line level input well? What about preset slots and midi control? THANKS
One thing that intrigues me about the Dig is the Golden Ratio setting. Can that be replicated in the SDE-3?
I don't think so
Both those delays are pretty amazing, I'd be pretty happy with either, I've been loving the delays in my new katana, although I don't know if there emulations of famous boss delays?
Can’t wait to get my sde-3!

Should be able to cop at least the EVH dual delays with it!
DIG is better, but it should be given the price. The Boss sounds great for the money and could be useful for me on a small board.
Hey Leon! When you first added that offset in the Boss pedal, it sounded FAT!! I like that! But I'm a guy who feels like the Axe III should be able to do most anything these pedals can, if you know how (which I generally don't. I tend to do light tweaking to factory presets.)
Is that offset just delaying the original delay?
It gives you a slightly longer delay on one channel e.g 300ms L and 303ms right. Try the vintage digital type in the axefx and use the offset in there
I wanna hear both at the same time! 😂☕️🏄🎸🔥
The NUX DUOTIME is pretty good too
Rockpig wants rockpig pedal. Your sde-3 demo forced me to order one - so it is all your fault! Rock on!
Rockpig pedal good

Ever tried an Ogre Kronomaster?
No but it has to have the coolest housing of all time!
SDE not SDea. I'm drinking some beer guys, have some mercy.

I love Boss pedals and i use it, but in this case Dig win.

The UA 224 verb is magnificent
@@LeonTodd Yeah I will to that for the more ambient stuff but it's a bit over the top for anything else I do. I'm all about a little splash of the plate reverb.
So you didn't actually want a dual delay then. DelVerb is not a replacement for either of these.
DIG wins again! (You probably know this is coming but... Howbout DIG V1 vs V2?)

I don't see why not? From memory using this in mono still gives you the two delays.
The delays on HX Stomp (Helix family in general including Native) will beat both of these hands down -🙂 - how many agree?
Don’t agree but they are very good
Nope. But it’s ok to have different opinions about things that is what makes it unique to everyone.
Had both a helix and strymon dig at the same time and it wasn’t even close. The strymon was just a superb and rich sounding delay. All my opinion and glad you dig your helix.
Lmaooooo
Nope I just sold my Helix and bought the Boss SDE-3, it’s far better for that sort of delay. More clarity and a crisper sounding too
